Dell has begun sending breach notification emails to some 49 million people whose data was apparently stolen in a recent cyberattack.
The type of information involved includes people’s names, postal addresses, and Dell hardware and order information, such as service tags, item description, order dates, and different warranty information.
“We are currently investigating an incident involving a Dell portal, which contains a database with limited types of customer information related to purchases from Dell,” the company said in the notification letter. “We believe there is not a significant risk to our customers given the type of information involved.”
Tangible risk
Dell has notified relevant authorities and brought in third-party cybersecurity experts to assess the damage. So far we don’t know if this was a simple data smash-and-grab, or a ransomware attempt.
The company believes the risk to its customers is not significant since financial and payment information, email addresses, and phone numbers were not stolen in this attack.
However, the risk of phishing or even major malware and ransomware attacks still exists, since threat actors can send out personalized letters with removable drives and deploy malicious code that way. It has happened in the past.
At the same time, there is always a risk someone most likely already bought the database on the dark web.

A cybercriminal with the alias Menelik posted a new thread on a dark web forum, advertising a Dell database fitting the company’s description: “49 million customer and other information systems purchased from Dell between 2017-2024.” The thread was quickly deleted, which usually happens if someone buys the database.
Since the information was most likely already acquired, if you are a Dell customer who purchased hardware between 2017 and 2024, it would be wise to be extra wary of any communication claiming to be from the company, especially if you get it in the mailbox.

Apple’s latest iPhones include several headline camera features that are worth using, such as Portrait Mode and Photographic Styles. But if all you want to use is the standard photo mode, there are still several tools and settings that can improve the composition of your pictures and help you capture the perfect shot using more traditional techniques.
Whether you are the owner of a new iPhone or a longtime user looking to up your photography game, here are six camera tools and settings in iOS that are worth checking out and experimenting with.
1. Use the Rule of Thirds
For a while now, Apple’s Camera app has included a few optional settings that can help you line up your shots. Foremost in these settings is the Grid tool, which should be used when applying the rule of thirds. It divides the frame of your photo into a grid with two horizontal lines and two vertical lines, creating nine equal parts.
The rule of thirds helps guide the viewer’s eye to the most important parts of your photo and creates a more harmonious composition. Here’s how to overlay a grid on the viewfinder.
Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Scroll down and tap Camera.
In the “Composition” section, toggle on the switch next to Grid.
Here are five things to keep in mind when using the grid to apple the rule of thirds.
Identify the Key Elements: First, identify the main subjects or elements in the scene you want to photograph. These could be a person, a building, a tree, or any focal point.
Positioning the Subjects: Place these key elements along the lines or at the points where the lines intersect. For instance, if you’re taking a photo of a person, you might position them along one of the vertical lines, rather than in the center of the frame.
Horizontal Elements: For horizontal elements like the horizon in a landscape, align them with one of the horizontal lines. For a more dramatic sky, place the horizon on the lower line. For more emphasis on the land or sea, place it on the upper line.
Balancing the Image: Use the rule of thirds to balance your photo. If you place a subject on the left, consider having something of lesser importance on the right to create a sense of balance.
Experimentation: While the rule of thirds is a guideline, it’s not a strict rule. Feel free to experiment with it and see how shifting elements in your frame changes the photo’s impact.
2. Straighten Top-Down Shots
If you’re taking a picture of something from above like a plate of food or an ornament on the ground, consider using the camera level, as it helps you capture a balanced shot without having to use a tripod arm or mount. It’s also useful for taking a shot of something directly above you, like an object on the ceiling or in the sky.
The camera level tool used to be part of the Grid overlay, but Apple separated out the function in iOS 17, and it now has its own switch: Open the Settings app on your iPhone, select Camera, then toggle on the switch next to Level. Now you are ready to use it.
Open the Camera app, and set the capture mode to Photo, Portrait, Square, or Time Lapse, using the sliding menu above the shutter button.
Point the camera straight down above your subject (or straight up if the subject/scene you want to capture is above you).
Line up the floating crosshair with the fixed crosshair in the center of the screen by adjusting the angle of your phone’s camera. The crosshairs will both glow yellow when in perfect alignment.
Tap the shutter button to capture the shot.
The aligned crosshairs turn yellow (right), indicating the lens is parallel with the ground.
3. Straighten Your Horizontal Shots
By making the Level tool an individual option in iOS 17, Apple has also included an additional horizontal level for more traditional straight-on photos.
Turning the Level option on makes a broken horizontal line appear on the screen when your iPhone senses that you’re lining up for a straight-on shot and you tilt your device slightly out of horizontal. The line appears white while your phone is out of level and then turns yellow once you achieve a level orientation to indicate success.
With the Level setting enabled (Settings ➝ Camera ➝ Level), try it for yourself. Open the Camera app and try shooting a subject at a straight angle, and you should see the broken horizontal lines in the center of the viewfinder. Straighten your angle up to connect the lines and make a single yellow line.
The leveling pop-up only appears briefly and only within a narrow range of angles close to horizontal (in either portrait or landscape orientation), so it won’t intrusively pop up when you’re intentionally trying to take a photo at an angle.
4. Take Burst Photos
Burst Mode refers to when the camera on your iPhone captures a series of photos in rapid succession, at a rate of ten frames per second. It’s a great way to shoot an action scene or an unexpected event, since you’re always more likely to end up with the picture you were aiming for.
To shoot in Burst Mode, simply long press on the Volume Up button and your iPhone will take a series of photos in quick succession. Notice that a counter increases inside the on-screen shutter button for as long as you hold down the volume button. This indicates how many shots are being captured in the current burst. Simply take your finger off the volume when you want to end the burst of shots.
When you take a series of burst photos, they automatically appear in the Photos app under the Album name Bursts. You’ll also find them in your main Photo Library. Follow the link to learn how to view and select the best of your Burst photos in the Photos app.
5. Mirror Your Selfies
When you take a selfie with your iPhone using the Camera app, it automatically flips – or mirrors – the image so that it’s an inverted version of the mirror image you see in the preview before you take the shot.
This can look odd, since it makes a big difference to how selfies look. It can also be annoying, since most third-party social media apps automatically take mirrored selfies, which means you’re more likely to be used to the mirroring functionality than the flipped selfies that your iPhone takes.
Fortunately, you can change this default behavior of the Camera app, meaning that you can get the mirrored selfie you’re probably more accustomed to seeing. Here’s how.
Launch the Settings app, then scroll down and select Camera.
Toggle the switch next to Mirror Front Camera to the green ON position.
That’s all there is to it. From now on when you use the Camera app to shoot a selfie, you’ll capture the same shot that you saw in the app’s preview mode.
6. View Outside the Frame
On iPhone 11 and later models, there is an optional camera setting that allows you to see what is outside the bounds of your photo’s frame, so you can correct the alignment of photos (and videos) without having to resort to cropping.
With the “View Outside the Frame” setting enabled, when shooting using the wide lens or the telephoto lens, the camera will simultaneously shoot using the next widest sensor. So the wide lens is active when you shoot with the telephoto lens, and the ultra-wide is active when you shoot with the wide.
Open the Settings app.
Scroll down and tap Camera.
Under the “Composition” section, toggle on the switch next to View Outside the Frame.
You may have to play around with zoom levels to switch between lenses, but you’ll know the feature is active when the camera interface turns semi-transparent to reveal the surroundings outside of the viewfinder.
Having the best website in the world is useless if people can’t find it. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) tools are digital platforms or utilities designed to improve websites’ visibility in search engine results. These tools optimize your website’s content for search engines using techniques such as keyword research, backlink analysis, and site audits.
Modern digital marketing strategies heavily rely on SEO tools to enhance the performance of your website and achieve the best results from your online presence. Frase offers a range of SEO features, and with artificial intelligence integration, even more features are unlocked. Let’s take a look.
Features
Creating content that ranks near the top of search engines and resonates with your audience is crucial for online success as a web developer. However, crafting high-quality content can be challenging without the right tools. Fortunately, Frase comes in as an all-in-one AI-powered assistant for web developers.
Frase’s SEO analysis tool is a powerful and easy-to-use tool that can help you increase your website’s potential. This tool offers a significant overview of your website’s performance, including a detailed website health check and keyword ranking analysis. By analyzing your website’s strengths and weaknesses, you can fine-tune your SEO strategy and optimize your website’s performance to ensure that it ranks higher in search engine results pages (SERPs). With Frase’s SEO analysis tool, you can stay ahead of the competition, attract more traffic to your website, and boost your online visibility.
But that’s not all. Frase’s content evaluation tool is also a must-have for web developers. It assesses the relevance and comprehensiveness of your content based on your target keywords. You can amplify your content’s effectiveness by adopting a comprehensive strategy to review and strengthen your title tags, meta descriptions, and header tags.
Frase is a powerful tool that can help you improve your web content in various ways. One helpful feature it offers is the ability to generate recommendations for text even before you start writing. You can input a suggested blog title with the blog introduction generator, and Frase will analyze and improve it. This can save you a lot of time and effort and help you develop attention-grabbing blog titles that will surely attract readers.
Frase also offers an outline generator that can help kickstart your post and provide a clear roadmap. This approach can be advantageous if you’re battling writer’s block or uncertain about how to begin your content. With Frase, you can be confident that your web content will be engaging and effective.
How does Frase use artificial intelligence?
Frase was established in 2016, and its success can be attributed to the advent of artificial intelligence. Frase’s offerings for web developers leverage AI in various ways.
Rather than manually searching for relevant information, Frase utilizes AI to analyze the top-ranking search results for your target keyword. This gives you an understanding of the type of content that Google prioritizes for that topic, including frequently asked questions and critical points to cover.
Frase’s AI is also at the core of its content generation tools. It can help generate content outlines and even write specific sections of your content, such as introductions and conclusions, by utilizing the data it gathered from the top-ranking search results to create relevant and informative content.
Moreover, AI powers Frase’s SEO optimization tools. Analyzing your content can suggest improvements to optimize it for search engines. This includes ensuring that you’re using the appropriate keywords and that your content structure is easy for search engines to crawl and comprehend.
Installation, setup, and compatibility

If you are looking for a comprehensive solution to manage your SEO and content needs, Frase is worth considering. Frase’s offerings are easily accessible through its website, provided you have an internet connection. The company’s help center is a great starting point for users, especially if you are new to the platform. Here, you can find getting-started guides for Frase’s SEO panel, AI tools, and sections on account management, billing, and document management.
But that’s not all! Frase also offers weekly webinars for training purposes, including product demonstrations and Q&A sessions. These webinars are available to both clients and potential clients, making learning more about the platform and its features easier. And the best part? You can attend these webinars from the comfort of your home or office without worrying about traveling.
In addition to its help center and webinars, Frase also has a blog that provides timely insights and product news. Whether you are interested in the latest SEO trends or want to learn more about using Frase’s AI tools to improve your content, the blog is a great resource. You can subscribe to Frase’s newsletter to stay up-to-date with the latest news and features.
Plans and pricing
If you’re new to Frase, you can sign up for a free trial on the company website. However, this offer is limited to only one user and one search query. The training tools and help center available on the website should help you decide whether Frase is suitable for your needs.
Frase offers plans for individuals and teams. For solo users, the membership fee is $15/month or $12/month (when paid annually), allowing for up to 10 search queries per month.
For those requiring more, the Frase Basic plan, which costs $45/month or $38/month (when paid annually). This plan allows one user and up to 30 monthly search queries.
Finally, the team plan starts at $97/month (when paid annually) or $115/month (when paid monthly) and covers up to three users with unlimited search queries. Additional users can be added for $25 per month.
These prices are in line with what other companies charge. However, I’d suggest limiting search queries to 10 or 30 per month, which is probably not enough for most users, and $115 for unlimited searches seems excessive. Ideally, the company should offer solo users unlimited searches for anywhere between $45 and $115 per month. Luckily, you can make membership changes at any time online.
Final verdict
Frase’s SEO analysis stands out for its detailed and comprehensive approach. It covers essential metrics like domain rating, heading count, and word count and provides a unique perspective that aids in tracking content performance.
Frase’s AI tools are impressive and make content creation much more manageable. The blog introduction and outline generators are beneficial, as they save time while ensuring the content is optimized for SEO.
Another standout feature of Frase is the competitive analysis tool. It allows users to analyze the top-ranking content for specific keywords, providing valuable insights into the competition and helping to improve the content’s performance.
Some users have reported that the interface can be overwhelming at first glance. The layout may not be as intuitive as other tools, and it may take time to navigate between the features. However, once users get used to it, they find that Frase can be a potent tool.
While AI tools are impressive for generating content and conducting research, they are not yet foolproof. For example, the AI may occasionally misinterpret the user’s intent and provide irrelevant results. However, Frase is constantly improving its algorithms and updating its database, so users can expect the AI tools to become more accurate over time.
Lastly, Frase’s current membership levels are not very impressive. The search limit for some of its paid memberships is relatively low, which can be frustrating for users who must conduct multiple searches. Frase could offer unlimited searches for all packages and make pricing adjustments based only on the number of users.
Overall, Frase is a good product with some excellent features. With some improvements to the interface and membership options, it could be an even better tool for content creators and SEO professionals.

American telecommunications behemoth AT&T has finally confirmed the authenticity of the 2021 data breach that spilled sensitive user information on the dark web, and has initiated a mass reset of user passcodes.
Roughly three years ago, privacy blog RestorePrivacy broke the news of a hacker selling sensitive data belonging to more than 70 million AT&T customers. The data allegedly contained people’s names, phone numbers, postal addresses, email addresses, social security numbers, and dates of birth.
While AT&T initially denied the breach, saying the data wasn’t from the company, the hacker, going by the name “ShinyHunters” said the organization will likely continue denying until they leak it all.
Mass reset
Surely enough, last month, a seller published the full database, affecting 73 million people – and TechCrunchanalyzed the database, confirming its authenticity, and also establishing that it contained user passcodes, prompting a swift alert towards AT&T.
Passcodes are four-digit numbers that work as the second security layer, and are used to access user accounts. Even though they were encrypted, some researchers argued that it is something that can be worked around. Apparently, there is not enough randomness in the encrypted data, which means that in theory, a threat actor could guess the passcode.
It seems the threat is more than just theoretical, as AT&T initiated a mass-reset of the passcodes over the weekend.
“AT&T has launched a robust investigation supported by internal and external cybersecurity experts,” the company said in a statement published on Saturday. “Based on our preliminary analysis, the data set appears to be from 2019 or earlier, impacting approximately 7.6 million current AT&T account holders and approximately 65.4 million former account holders.”
Sign up to the TechRadar Pro newsletter to get all the top news, opinion, features and guidance your business needs to succeed!
“AT&T does not have evidence of unauthorized access to its systems resulting in exfiltration of the data set,” the statement said.
While the telco did confirm the breach, it says that it still doesn’t know where the data came from, whether it was directly from its servers, or from its vendors.
Privacy-preserving URL protection and beefed-up password protection are coming to Google Safe Browsing for the popular Chrome browser for macOS and iOS, Google said Thursday. And the Chrome security update comes to Macs, iPhones and iPads first. Android devices will see them later in March.
Chrome security update: Google Safe Browsing beefed up for macOS and iOS
Google Safe Browsing in Chrome protects against phishing, malware, unwanted software and more. It shows more than 3 million user warnings daily for potential threats, Google said.
But new Chrome security update might increase that number, according to a pair of blog posts from Google (general news and technical details). And the updates are coming to Chrome for macOS and iOS first and to Android users later in March.
Until now Safe Browsing’s Standard protection mode worked from a list of known threat-sites stored on a user’s device. Now, with the Chrome security update, it will check site’s against Google’s server-side list in real time.
That change should block 25% more phishing attempts, according to Google. And it helps spot brand-new threat sites plus those that exist only briefly. Many threat sites pop up for less than 10 minutes, the company noted.
Encryption and other methods added
This schematic shows the updated threat-site checking process. Photo: Google
Google also noted the update uses privacy-enhancing methods like encryption to make sure no one, including Google, knows what websites you go to.
“While this does require some additional horsepower from the browser, we’ve worked to make sure your experience remains smooth and speedy,” the company said.
And while the Chrome security update relates to Safe Browsing’s Standard protection, you can jack it up by turning on Enhanced Protection. That uses artificial intelligence to protect against malicious Chrome extensions, Google said.
Password Checkup updated, too
Google added that Password Checkup on iOS also recently got updated. In addition to calling your attention to compromised passwords, it can now flag weak and reused passwords.
The user gets an alert when entering a bad password. Or they can check passwords any time in Chrome Settings > Safety Check.
Spotify dominates the music industry. This becomes really obvious if you don’t use Spotify: You end up being sent, and inevitably clicking on, Spotify links all the time. It happens on social media, yes, but also in text exchanges with friends, in emails, and in DMs. The thought is a good one; someone enjoyed a piece of music and wanted to share it with you. The problem, though, is that the Spotify link is mostly useless if you don’t use Spotify.
What if you use other streaming apps, such as those offered by Apple, Amazon, and YouTube, to listen to music? Are you doomed to search for the track, album, or artist on those services manually? Is that forever your fate? Absolutely not. Here are a few tools that can help you turn Spotify links into links for your preferred music service. (Just note, these tools will work to locate songs, artists, and albums across platforms, but since playlists are usually unique to each platform, these methods won’t work with custom playlists.)
Google Chrome: An Extension to Automatically Redirect Links
If you use Google Chrome or a compatible browser like Microsoft Edge, the browser extension Music Link can automatically open all Spotify links in whatever music app you like. Just install the extension and click its icon to configure it. Choose which music service you prefer and you’re done: Any Spotify link you get from now on will redirect to your app of choice.
You can optionally uncheck whatever services you’re fine with getting links to. SoundCloud, for example, tends to let you play music regardless of whether you have an account, and a lot of its offerings aren’t on other platforms, so you might as well not redirect those links. For the most part, though, this is the kind of extension you can install and never think about ever again.
iPhone and iPad: Song.link for Apple Shortcuts
Chrome extensions may not always work on iPhones or iPads, but thankfully there’s an Apple shortcut for redirecting Spotify links. Just copy any Spotify URL to the clipboard then launch the shortcut Song.Link. This will find the URL in your clipboard and offer you links to the song on other platforms. There’s even a YouTube link, which is helpful if you don’t subscribe to any streaming service.
Google has unveiled a new tool that is changing the way we create images. This tool, called Image FX, is part of their AI Test Kitchen and it’s powered by artificial intelligence. It’s designed to make images that look so real, they could be mistaken for professional photography. The best part? It’s easy to use, even if you’re not an experienced AI artist.
Google has created the AI Test Kitchen to provide users with a place where they can experience and give feedback on some of Google’s latest AI technologies. As the name implies everything within the AI Test Kitchen is a work in progress and meant for early feedback. When you use Image FX, you start by typing in a description of what you want the picture to look like. The AI then takes your words and turns them into an image. It’s like having a conversation with a machine that can paint. And to make things even better, the system will offer suggestions to improve your description, making it easier for you to get the perfect image.
Google has made available three AI tools: ImageFX, MusicFX, and TextFX. With these tools, you can use text to turn an idea into images, music, and text. Keep in mind that this technology has its own set of challenges since the responses can be inaccurate or inappropriate. Google say they have added multiple layers of protection to minimize these risks, but they haven’t eliminated them. Currently the AI Test Kitchen is only available in English
Imagen 2 Image FX user interface explored
One of the most impressive things about Image FX is its ability to make pictures of famous characters or to create photos that look so real, it’s hard to tell they weren’t taken with a camera. This shows just how far Google has come in the field of AI and making images from scratch.
Here are some other articles you may find of interest on the subject of AI art generators :
Right now, you can’t change much about how the images are made. There’s only one setting you can adjust, called the ‘seed’, which changes how unique your image is. This means that while you’ll get consistent results, you won’t have a lot of control over how different each image is. The people who use Image FX are really important to its success. When they share the images they’ve made and give feedback, they help Google make the tool even better. It’s this kind of teamwork that shows how much Image FX could improve in the future.
When you interact with the tools, Google collects your conversations, tool outputs, related product usage information, and your feedback. This data is stored in a manner that’s not linked to your Google account. Google uses this data to provide, improve, and develop Google products and services and machine learning technologies, including Google’s enterprise products such as Google Cloud. For example, we use your feedback to increase the effectiveness of our model’s safety policies and help minimize bias in our models more generally. Please do not include any personal information about yourself or others in your interactions.
Google Imagen 2 AI art generator
If you want to try out Image FX, you can go to the AI Test Kitchen website. But keep in mind, it might not be available everywhere, so you’ll need to check if you can access it where you live. Google’s Image FX is a big step forward in making images with the help of AI. It’s all about creating high-quality, realistic pictures in a fun and interactive way. Even though it’s still being developed and has some limits, the future looks bright. With help from users, Image FX will keep getting better and better.
