Get up to $450 off a Google Pixel Tablet when you trade in your old iPad or Android slab

[ad_1]

Google has an offer for iPad owners who are curious about the Pixel Tablet. The company has a trade-in promotion that covers at least the cost of the Pixel Tablet for iPad owners — if not more, depending on which model you have. It works with Samsung tablets as well, but those trade-in values are lower. The Pixel Tablet costs $399 (without deals) for 128GB storage and no charging speaker dock.

$399 at Google Store

The promo works with iPads as old as the sixth-generation model from six years ago. For that, Google will give you a surprising $399 — matching the Pixel Tablet’s base cost. That iPad model only cost $329 in 2018, so Google is overpaying by a lot for that one.

However, Google balances that with much worse offers for modern, high-end iPads. For example, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with M2 chip (2022) only nets $450. Until this week (when the company launched a new iPad Pro and iPad Air), Apple sold that model for $1,099, so we don’t recommend that trade-in price. If you’re done with a high-end iPad from the last few years, you can likely sell it on places like eBay, Craigslist or Swappa for significantly more.

Sam Rutherford for Engadget

The Pixel Tablet stands out from its Android-running competitors by working with a charging speaker base that lets the device double as a smart display, making it much more versatile. Engadget’s Cherlynn Low thought that part overshadowed its core functionality as a tablet. “As a smart display, the Pixel Tablet mostly shines. It has a useful dashboard, an easy-to-read interface and impressive audio quality,” she wrote in our full review.

The tablet has a 10.95-inch display with a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution (276 PPI) and runs on a Google Tensor G2 chip. It weighs slightly over a pound and is lighter than Android rivals like the Galaxy Tab S8 and OnePlus Pad. Its back has a nano-ceramic coating that gives it a premium, glass-like feeling that you may not expect from a $399 device.

Accessories are where the Pixel Tablet stands out the most. Google’s Pixel Tablet Case, sold separately for $79, has a built-in kickstand that makes the slate more versatile. “What I love about the kickstand-hanger-combo is that it allows you to place the Tablet pretty much anywhere,” Low wrote in Engadget’s review. “So when I want to hang it off a kitchen cabinet to follow along with a recipe video or keep watching Love Is Blind for example, I can. And though the 2,560 x 1,600 LCD panel isn’t as vibrant as the OLED on Samsung’s Galaxy Tabs, it still produced crisp details and colorful images.”

The star accessory is Google’s $129 charging speaker dock, which you can use without removing the kickstand case. This product transforms the tablet into a smart display, potentially voiding the need for other smart home control hubs. The speaker has impressive sound for its size, making it easier to hear its responses if you aren’t right next to it.

Google’s fine print notes that the trade-in value will be finalized after receiving the tablet, and it could be lower if it determines the condition doesn’t match what you selected during the trade-in process. The refund will be processed on the credit card you used to buy the Pixel Tablet (or through Google Store credit if you return your purchase during that time).

Samsung was world’s second-biggest tablet maker in Q1 2024

[ad_1]

Samsung was the world’s second-biggest tablet brand during Q1 2024. This is a good result, but the South Korean firm could have done better, as its sales have dropped slightly compared to the first quarter of last year. While Apple’s sales also tanked, Chinese tablet makers managed to increase their sales.

Over 6.7 million Galaxy Tabs were shipped in Q1 2024

According to the latest figures from International Data Corporation (IDC), Samsung ranked second globally in terms of tablet sales. It shipped 6.7 million tablets during Q1 2024 and captured a 21.7% share of the market. That’s 5.8% fewer shipments compared to Q1 2023. The company launched four affordable tablets—Galaxy Tab A9, Galaxy Tab A9+, Galaxy Tab S9 FE, and Galaxy Tab S9 FE+—in Q4 2023 and the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) in Q1 2024. So, most of its recent launches were affordable models, and it is expected to launch the Galaxy Tab S10 early next year.

Apple Samsung Tablet Market Share Global Q1 2024 IDC

Apple ranked first with shipments of 9.9 million iPads and a market share of 32%. Compared to Q1 2023, iPad sales tanked by 8.5%. It has been nearly a year and a half since Apple launched any iPad. However, it is expected to launch two new iPad Pros with OLED screens from Samsung and M4 chips and two new iPad Airs with the M2 chip tomorrow.

Huawei improved its tablet sales by an impressive 43.6% (likely mostly in China) to reach shipment figures of 2.9 million and a market share of 9.4%. Lenovo shipped 2.1 million tablets, reaching a market share of 7%. Its year-over-year growth stood at 13.2%, which is decent. Xiaomi showed a staggering improvement of 92.6% to reach tablet shipments of 1.8 million and a market share of 5.9%.

Overall, the tablet market improved by an insignificant margin (0.5%) compared to Q1 2024. Over 30.8 million tablets were shipped globally in Q1 2024. Other brands accounted for 24% of all tablet sales during the first quarter of this year.

The iPad Pro 2024 could have ‘by far’ the best OLED tablet screen and an M4 chipset

[ad_1]

For as much as Apple hyped up the mini-LED screen used by the iPad Pro 12.9 (2022), the fact is that in many ways this isn’t as good as the OLED displays that were already found on numerous rival tablets. But finally it looks like Apple won’t just catch up, but overtake the competition.

This is according to Ross Young, a leaker and display supply chain expert who claims (via 9to5Mac) that the iPad Pro 2024 will have “by far the best OLED tablet panels on the market with LTPO, 120Hz refresh, a tandem stack and glass thinning resulting in ultra-thin and light displays with high brightness, extended battery life and long lifetime.”

[ad_1]

It’s been rumored for the past several months that Apple plans on releasing an iPad sporting an OLED screen. The tech giant has its work cut out because Wacom has beaten them to the punch as the company has revealed its first OLED tablet known as the Movink

Provided by Samsung, the 13.3-inch display “delivers Full HD resolution with… a contrast ratio of 100,000:1.” It houses multiple image-enhancing features such as support for the entirety of the DCI-P3 color gamut. Most notably, the Movink is validated for both the Pantone and Pantone SkinTone standards allowing the device to accurately reproduce a wide array of colors and skin complexions.

Wacom’s new drawing tablet uses Samsung’s OLED panel

[ad_1]

Samsung Display is the world’s biggest maker of OLED screens, and its panels are used by almost all brands in various types of devices. In a new move, Wacom, the world’s most popular drawing tablet maker, has released its first one with an OLED screen. And the supplier of that OLED panel is none other than Samsung Display.

The Wacom Movink is priced at the company’s store for $750. In Europe, it costs €850, while its price tag in EU countries is £730.

Wacom Movink uses Samsung Display’s OLED panel for unbelievable improvements

Wacom Movink Pro Pen 2

Wacom’s new flagship drawing tablet, the Movink, is the company’s first tablet with an OLED screen. Thanks to the OLED screen supplied by Samsung Display, this is Wacom’s lightest and thinnest tablet ever. It is a 13-inch panel with Full HD resolution, 10-bit colors, and 100,000:1 contrast ratio.

Wacom claims that Movink covers 100% of DCI-P3 color space and 95% of Adobe RGB color space, with a Delta E of less than 2. The Wacom Movink display is calibrated at the factory and has received two color accuracy certifications: Pantone and Pantone SkinTone. The Wacom Color Manager app allows further color calibration.

OLED advantages don’t end there. It has improved pen tracking accuracy and detection height. Wacom has promised that it also has light leakage or ripples. Moreover, the Movink runs cooler and quieter than previous-generation drawing tablets from the company. There are two customizable buttons to access the most used tools.

The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass, while the body is made using magnesium alloy. The Pro Pen 3, which comes bundled with the Movink has sensitivity and tilt detection, and its nib is designed to increase visibility.

Movink is compatible with Samsung’s S Pen stylus

Wacom Movink Pro Pen 2 Nib

There’s another Samsung connection here. The Movink has Dual Pen technology, making it compatible with other styli, including the S Pens from Samsung. Other compatible brands include Dr. Grip, Lamy, and Staedtler. If you didn’t know, Wacom’s drawing and writing technology is used in all Samsung phones and tablets that come bundled with an S Pen.

The Wacom Movink is compatible with Android, ChromeOS, macOS, and Windows, which means it can be used with Samsung’s laptops, smartphones, and tablets. It connects with the host device via a single USB Type-C cable, provided that it can get 15W of power from the host.

Can’t spend $749 on a Wacom tablet? Check out the Galaxy Tab S9 as a great option

If you like drawing but not so much that you want to spend $750, the Galaxy Tab S9 is a perfectly capable tablet for drawing and painting. At $799, you can get a full-fledged tablet with a 120Hz QHD+ screen, an S Pen with pressure and tilt sensitivity, Android OS, a really powerful processor, quad speakers, a fingerprint reader, and front and rear cameras. You can view its review in our video below.

ESR cases for 12.9-inch iPad Air come out ahead of tablet

ESR cases for 12.9-inch iPad Air - Rebound Hybrid Case 360

Rumors say a new 12.9-inch iPad Air will come out soon. And ESR is banking on it early with the release of its new range of cases for the expected tablet — the first time Apple would offer that size outside of its iPad Pro lineup.

New ESR iPad Air cases gamble on 12.9-inch iPad Air release

Everyone seems to expect Apple to put out a 12.9-inch iPad Air soon. It will mark a first for the iPhone giant, if it puts out its lower-cost tablet in a larger size previously reserved for its iPad Pro lineup. Currently, iPad Air (5th generation) comes only in the 10.9-inch size.

Perhaps Apple confirmed the upcoming release with accessories makers. That would explain why ESR decided to be first out of the gate, even before the tablet comes out, to maximize initial case sales upon release of the new iPad.

However, there’s no certainty ESR’s new cases for a 12.9-inch iPad Air will fit what Apple releases, as the release is not confirmed.

New ESR cases

On Amazon, ESR promotes a range of three new cases for a 12.9-inch iPad Air with the slogan, “Transform and Do It All.” Of the three cases below, only one is available for purchase on Amazon so far: Rebound Hybrid Case 360. All three are listed on ESR’s website, but currently say “out of stock.” Presumably, they will be available soon.

You can already buy cases for the iPad Air 6, but the tablet might lack a rumored change

[ad_1]

Apple hasn’t even announced the iPad Air 6 yet, but that hasn’t stopped an accessory maker launching cases for the rumored slate, as ESR has done exactly that.

Several cases from the company (spotted by 9to5Mac) have been listed on Amazon.com, and they reveal some possible details in the process.

Skip the Paste—You Should Chomp Down on a Toothpaste Tablet

[ad_1]

It takes more effort to use a toothpaste tablet than your standard toothpaste. You’ll want to chew it a few times and move the remnants of the powdered tablet around your mouth to get it all over versus unevenly dispersed. It’s not hard to do, but some aggressive chomps before brushing your teeth might not be the evening workout you’re used to.

The toothbrush will help distribute the tablet and foam it up, but I’ve found it’s easier to distribute it as much as you can from the get-go. You’ll also want to use a wet toothbrush to add more moisture to achieve maximum foam. There are plenty of nights where I grab two tablets instead of one, if I feel like one isn’t enough foam for my teeth that day.

It’s a weird sensation that takes some getting used to; it feels much more powdery and dry than the gel toothpaste most people use, and if you don’t chew it up well enough you might not feel like your teeth got cleaned at all. My husband tried toothpaste tablets and hated the texture and feel immediately. It took me about a week to get used to it, but now I can’t go back.

Sweet Tooth

One of the big reasons I can’t go back is because whenever I try regular toothpaste, I’m struck by how sugary-sweet it tastes.

Toothpastes don’t have sugar in them—at least not ones that are approved by the American Dental Association—but they do have some kind of sweetening agents to make it taste better. Colgate, a major toothpaste maker, lists saccharine and sorbitol as common sweetening agents. Both of these are artificial sweeteners and are used to cover the flavor of the less tasty ingredients.

Some tablets also use sweetening agents. A popular choice is xylitol, which Huppy, another toothpaste tablet maker, says is “a natural sweetener that wards off unwelcome bacteria.” It’s also listed as an ingredient in my Bite tablets. Xylitol isn’t artificial—it’s found in plants and fruits— and there is some limited research to support that it can reduce plaque and protect enamel when used in dental settings.

Amazon just dropped one of this year’s best tablet deals – and it’s not the iPad

[ad_1]

There has been a flurry of Samsung Galaxy tablet deals lately, with the whole lineup of the manufacturer’s top slates receiving some serious discounts. But this latest and unexpected offer on an older model could have trumped them all.

After a refresh for 2024, you can now get a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite at Amazon for $329.99 (was $429.99). What sweetens the deal even more is the inclusion of a $100 Amazon Gift Card, which makes this budget-friendly mid-range tablet even better value for money.

However, with Samsung now up to the Galaxy Tab S8 and S9 generation of tablets, you may be wondering if you should even buy an older S6 device. In my eyes, it’s a great buy at this price – especially if you need an affordable device for everyday use but don’t want to compromise too much on performance.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite was one of the manufacturer’s flagship models at the time of release, and this is effectively a relaunched new device – not simply a way to shift old stock. It’s fast and responsive, making it good for browsing, video calls, relatively demanding work, media streaming, and even a little gaming. Plus, you get the handy S-Pen Stylus included for free, which is great for accessibility and if you like to doodle.

Today’s best Samsung Galaxy Tab deals

Other Samsung tablet deals still available

If you want to compare these with all the other tablet deals available right now, I’ve included a few more of today’s best offers below including several other Samsung tablet deals and iPad deals.
