WhatsApp is getting a fresh new look with updated icons for a modern look. The revamped layout makes it easy to get to your chats quicker.
The refreshed WhatsApp design is rolling out for both iPhone and Android.
Meta has been testing the fresh WhatsApp look in beta for a few months now. The updated layout neatly integrates all the changes and features the messaging platform has received over the last year or two.
A key change of the revamped design is that it uses WhatsApp’s green shade as the accent color. Meta says it “considered over 35 different color iterations, ultimately aligning with WhatsApp’s iconic green and opting for a palette that allows for harmonious color pairings throughout the app.”
we’re rolling out design updates to give WhatsApp a fresh new look, while keeping it familiar + easy to use here are some ways it’s changing ⬇️
• updated layout and icons that that help you find what you need faster
As a part of the design revamp, Meta has updated the icons to a rounded, outlined style to match its new iconography. All illustrations have also been updated.
Despite the modern look and feel, Meta has ensured the app retains the same familiarity. This is important since over a billion people use WhatsApp daily, and a big design overhaul can confuse non-tech-savvy folks.
WhatsApp for iOS gets a new attachment menu
On Android, the dark mode is now a shade darker than before. The change helps provide higher contrast and deeper tones to reduce eye strain. On iPhone, the new attachment menu should make sending files, creating polls, etc., easier. The chat background also gets a refresh and features new artwork.
Nikon’s Nikkor Z 40mm f/2 is one of two lightweight, inexpensive prime lenses for the Z-mount – the other being the wider 28mm f/2.8.
At 40mm, it’s currently the closest match to the ‘nifty fifty’ lenses of old, aiming to provide a lightweight lens with a compact footprint, flexible focal length, and a relatively fast aperture. Above all, it’s cheap – really cheap for a proprietary lens sitting at just £259 / $289 /AU$310 new. Compared to the Nikon S 50mm f/1.8 or the S 35mm f/1.8, the 40mm comes in at under half the price while still offering some form of weather sealing and excellent performance.
Optically, this lens has a few idiosyncrasies – namely corner sharpness and coma – but the 40mm is innately usable in a wide range of situations. It’s wide enough for some landscapes and close enough for most portraits. Personally, I find the 40mm focal length more usable than 50mm for a walkabout lens – and f/2 is plenty outside of extreme situations.
Nikon Z 40mm f/2 specs
Type: Prime Sensor: Full-frame Focal length: 40mm (60mm APS-C) Max aperture: f/2 Minimum focus: 11.8in / 30cm Filter size: 52mm Dimensions: 2.8 x 1.8in / 70 x 45.5mm Weight: 6oz / 170g
I tested on a full-frame Nikon Z6 but the lens is also compatible with the ‘DX’ APS-C Nikon Z-mount cameras. In this case, the focal length becomes 60mm. It’s getting into portrait lens territory for APS-C here although it would also be a good choice for a shy street photographer who wants some distance from their subject.
Nikon Z 40mm f/2: design
The Nikon Z 40mm f/2 features an entirely plastic build that feels well engineered and deceptively robust in the hand. Overall, it’s a solid and well put together lens but the plastic thread and mount do cheapen the overall feel somewhat. You’re never tricked into thinking this is a premium lens, even though its output is excellent.
The Nikon Z 40mm f/2 is, however, extremely light – weighing just 6oz / 170g. Pairing this lens up with my Nikon Z6 results in a package that weighs just over 21oz / 600g, which rivals crop sensor setups for sheer portability. While I’d never call this pairing ‘pocketable’, it’s a featherweight combination for a full-frame system and perfect for every day shooting.

And, I have to say – the 40mm pairs nicely with the Z6’s relatively minimalist, being workmanlike in its design since there are no external AF switches, custom control rings, or any other kind of outward flare to speak of. I’d say it looks decent enough on one of Nikon’s more modern bodies. Is it boring? Maybe, but it doesn’t look out of place.

It’s worth noting here that the Nikon Z 40mm f/2 comes in two variations – the standard version that I tested and a more retro-themed ‘SE’ variant. If you’re looking for a prime to pair up with the much more old-school-looking Nikon Zf or Nikon Zfc then you’ll want to make sure you’re checking out the SE for maximum retro effect.
Neither variant ships with a first-party lens hood but both are dust and drip-resistant, which is a major selling point for a lens this inexpensive. In recent years, third-party manufacturers (most notably Viltrox) have started to offer compelling budget alternatives to entry-level first-party lenses but weather sealing is one area where most are severely lacking. And, I can personally attest that the splash resistance of this lens is fantastic – having been soaked from head to toe on Dartmoor during field testing.
Nikon Z 40mm f/2: performance
Thanks to built-in lens corrections on Z-mount bodies, you’ll get extremely good results out of camera with the 40mm. For the price, the lens is impressively sharp even at f/2 and exhibits minimal chromatic aberration or vignetting. Flare is also controlled – despite this lens likely not featuring Nikon’s higher-end coatings.
I’ve shot thousands of images with the 40mm and I’ve come to appreciate how it renders a scene. I’ve read some describe this lens as ‘classic’ in character and while its sharpness is certainly more akin to a modern lens, colors certainly do pop under the right circumstances. Bokeh-wise, the 40mm is also relatively circular/puffy in the center but becomes less bloomier and more defined around the edges.
As with most lenses, the sharpness sweet spot for the 40mm is around f/5 to f/8 but even at these optimal apertures the 40mm is notably sharpest in the centre. Depending on what you’re shooting the 40mm will exhibit some softness at the extreme corners – as with this sample image of a dock leaf taken at f/5.6.

Despite having a minimum focus distance of 11.8in / 30cm the lens is also quite soft when close focusing. You can narrow down the aperture for more sharpness but you’ll miss out on that creamy DoF (depth of field) up close, which means the 40mm can suffer for specialized applications like floral photography. Just below you can see a specific example of a flower taken at around a foot distance, where the focus point was set directly on the central bud.
The Nikon 40mm f/2 exhibits some softness up close, even central in the frame. (Image credit: Future / Alex Whitelock)
The 40mm also exhibits some coma, which can result in noticeably smeared lights during night photography towards the extreme edges of the frame. In real-life testing, I found this to be an incredibly minor issue that only cropped up on a few niche cases such as the attached scene just below. Astrophotographers will likely skip this lens over in favor of the wider (and similarly priced) 28mm but note that this lens does feature some astigmatism if you’re deadset on edge-to-edge clarity.

That’s where my criticisms end, however. In practical use the 40mm performs admirably. Autofocus is extremely quick and minimal focus breathing means this is a versatile lens that can also handle video. Note, however, that my lens has a slight whirring sound when focusing – an absolute non-issue for me as a photographer but videographers may notice. I wouldn’t rule out copy variation here since it’s not a widely reported issue, though.

Should I buy the Nikon Z 40mm f/2?
Buy it if…
Don’t buy it if…
How I tested the Nikon Z 40mm f/2
Regular use for over a year and counting
Used in fair and inclement weather
Day and nighttime use
I’ve had the Nikon Z 40mm f/2 in my kit for over a year now; in which time I’ve used it extensively for general purpose photography both home and abroad. Subsequently, I’ve been able to thoroughly test the lens in a variety of situations to determine its strengths and weaknesses.
Since Nikon openly advertises this lens as weather-sealed, I’ve made sure to test this lens in adverse conditions, particularly in rainy environments. I’ve also extensively tested this lens at night, making use of its wide aperture of f/2.
Multi-display computer setups with asymmetrical placements — aka, screens oriented in landscape and portrait orientations — are so popular that even vintage Apple displays are getting in the action. Today’s featured rig uses a modern MacBook and vintage displays. A M1 Pro MacBook Pro from 2021 drives a Cinema Display and Thunderbolt Display from many years earlier.

Modern MacBook Pro and vintage displays make retro-cool setup
Redditor thatvirtualboy showcased the display-heavy setup in a post entitled, “Landscape + Portrait Layout.” In the photograph above, he has a Thunderbolt Dissplay on the left (landscape mode) and a Cinema Display on the right (portrait mode). They’re both from around 2010 and both feature 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution (2K quad high def, or QHD). His 2021 M1 Pro MacBook Pro is hidden behind the screens.
We first covered his setup in January 2023, when he kept his vintage displays far apart, and before he filled out the setup with some new items. Those include a Magic Mouse 2 and an EppieBasic LED Desk Lamp mounted next to the monitor arm and arching over the webcam atop the monitor on the left.
“I’ve already replaced the all-in-one cable on the Thunderbolt display,” Boy said. “Planning to keep using these until they either die, or the Studio Display gets refreshed. So probably a long time. With the right adapters, they work just fine with the M1 Pro.”
Boy noted the Thunderbolt Display can use the regular Apple Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 display adapter, “which I have directly plugged into the MacBook Pro.” And he added the Cinema Display works with a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter using a CalDigit dock.
Experiment ‘for science’
“Can you connect the [Cinema Display] to the [Thunderbolt Display]’s TB2 port or do you have to connect them each by its own to the Mac? Always thought of that as I had 2 TBDs and they were flickering,” a commenter asked.
“I had never even considered trying that, assuming it was data only,” Boy replied. “For science, I just gave it a go and confirmed that it doesn’t work!”
Old-school bezels on Cinema Display, Thunderbolt Display
Another commenter lamented the rather noticeable bezels bordering the vintage screens.
“Nice but those thick borders giving me anxiety,” they said. “It’s interesting how technology has evolved, I don’t think multiple displays were as common as they are now right?”
Boy’s reply:
The bezels appear prominent when viewing the entire setup at a distance like this, but in use, they’re hardly noticeable, and are actually quite beautiful when you do stop to notice them. For my profession, I’ve used everything from a single display up to 4 displays. I think macOS makes it really easy to use a single display for most work (through the use of multiple desktop spaces and/or Stage Manager). However the two things that keep me using 2 displays for the time being is programming, and giving Power Point presentations over Zoom.

The full patch notes revealed by Activision detail everything players can expect this season, with the first most notable feature being the addition of six 6v6 multiplayer maps.
Three of these maps are brand-new locales, while the remaining three are “fresh yet familiar experiences”. The Emergency 24/7 playlist can be accessed immediately with the launch of Season 3, and includes the maps Emergency, 6 Star, Tanked, Growhouse, Grime (in-season), and Checkpoint (in-season).

Alongside additional Aftermarket Parts and equipment, like the EMD Mine and Enhanced Vision Goggles, Sledgehammer Games has confirmed that it has also made some quality-of-life improvements for gunplay by making changes to aiming.
The developer highlighted the update in a separate post, saying that it has “improved clarity while firing MWII weapons and added Initial Aim Accuracy to heavy bolt Attachments on Snipers.” It also noted that ADS Idle Swat is now a predictable motion, “raising the skill ceiling by eliminating randomness and encouraging weapon mastery.”
Season 3 will also see the addition of six new Operators, including rapper Snoop Dogg who has an alternate skin that turns him into a literal dog, along with several new events with limited-time rewards. Zombies mode also has a brand-new story mission called Dark Aether Rift, as well as new challenges to take part in, while Call of Duty: Warzone welcomes the return of the fan-favorite Rebirth Island and a new training mode called Warzone Bootcamp, which can be played against real players and bots.

Samsung has unveiled its new mid-range smartphone, the Galaxy A35, featuring a modern design and camera improvements. It succeeds the Galaxy A34, bringing a faster processor and brighter 120Hz OLED screen. It is also among the first mid-range phones with One UI 6.1 pre-installed.
Let us have a look at what the Galaxy A35 has to offer.
Galaxy A35 has a faster processor (Exynos 1380) and improved camera quality
The Galaxy A35 has a more modern-looking design. It has a screen with a punch-hole-shaped cutout for the selfie camera. While it still uses a plastic frame, Samsung has used a glass back on its new mid-ranger and Gorilla Glass Victus+ for display protection. It also has the company’s new ‘Key Island‘ design, which raises the part of the frame near the power and volume keys.
It has a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED with Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It also has the Vision Booster mode, which can raise the brightness to 1,000 nits under direct sunlight. There is an in-display optical fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, and an IP67 rating (for dust and water resistance).
Samsung has improved the Galaxy A35’s camera capabilities. It features a 50MP primary camera with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 5MP macro camera on the rear. On the front, it has a 13MP selfie camera. It can record 4K videos at 30 frames per second using its front and rear (50MP) cameras. The company says VDIS improves video stabilization, while Super HDR Video improves colors and dynamic range.
The Galaxy A35 comes equipped with the Exynos 1380 processor, 6GB/8GB RAM, 128GB/256GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot. Thanks to the new 5nm processor, the phone should offer 18% improved CPU performance and 15% faster GPU performance, which is decent enough for gaming. This is the same chipset that was used in the Galaxy A54 last year.
This new mid-range phone’s connectivity features include GPS, 5G, a dual-SIM card slot (and eSIM), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and supports 25W fast charging.
The phone will be available in four colors: Ice Blue, Lavender, Lemon Yellow, and Navy Blue.
Galaxy A35 runs One UI 6.1 out of the box and will get four Android OS updates
The A35 runs Android 14-based One UI 6.1 and will get four major Android OS updates and security updates for five years.
It has Samsung Knox and Samsung Knox Vault. Auto Blocker, Samsung’s new security measure to stop app installation from unauthorized sources, is also present on the Galaxy A35. It offers app security checks and blocks malicious commands from entering the phone when it is connected to an external device using a USB cable.
TM Roh, President and Head of Samsung MX (Mobile eXperience), said, “With the Galaxy A series, we are expanding our latest technologies to a wider audience so that more people can benefit from them. We are excited to open up even more possibilities on the Galaxy A series this year, including offering Samsung Knox Vault for the first time on this lineup. We’re proud to enable Galaxy A series users to safely and reliably enjoy outstanding mobile experiences.“

The contemporary workplace has experienced a substantial evolution in recent years, with remote work becoming increasingly prevalent. As organisations adapt to this new paradigm, the need for flexible and efficient technology solutions has never been more crucial. Laptop lease services have emerged as a valuable strategy for meeting the demands of the modern workplace. This article will explore the benefits and advantages of laptop leasing in the context of remote work.
1. Cost-Effective Solution
Limited Upfront Costs
Purchasing laptops outright can be a substantial upfront expense for both individuals and businesses. Laptop leasing offers a cost-effective alternative by spreading the costs over a manageable monthly or annual lease payment. This financial flexibility allows organisations to allocate resources more efficiently.
Budget Predictability
Leasing provides budget predictability, as you know exactly how much you will be paying each month. This predictability is essential for financial planning, simplifying the process for businesses to handle their expenditures and allocate resources effectively.
2. Access to Latest Technology
Regular Upgrades
Technology advances swiftly, and staying current with the most recent hardware developments and software can be challenging. Laptop leasing ensures that you have access to the most up-to-date technology. Lease agreements often include options for regular hardware upgrades, ensuring that your remote workforce is equipped with cutting-edge tools.
Enhanced Productivity
The latest technology can significantly impact productivity. Newer laptops typically offer improved processing power, better battery life, and enhanced features, enabling remote employees to work more efficiently and effectively.
3. Scalability and Flexibility
Scalable Solutions
The modern workplace often requires scalability to accommodate fluctuating workforce sizes. Laptop leasing allows organisations to scale their technology infrastructure up or down as needed. Whether you need to onboard new remote employees quickly or adjust your technology resources due to changing business conditions, leasing offers the flexibility to do so.
Customised Solutions
Laptop leasing providers offer customisable solutions tailored to your organisation’s specific needs. This adaptability guarantees your ability to choose the hardware and software configurations that align with your remote work requirements.
4. Maintenance and Support
Managed Services
Laptop leasing often includes managed services, such as maintenance, technical support, and equipment repairs. This means that you don’t have to worry about handling these tasks in-house, saving you time and resources.
Reduced Downtime
In the event of hardware issues or technical problems, leasing providers can provide rapid support and replacements, minimising downtime for remote employees. This ensures that your workforce remains productive and operational.
5. Sustainability and Eco-Friendly
Reduced E-Waste
Laptop leasing promotes sustainability by reducing electronic waste. When leased laptops reach the end of their lifecycle, leasing providers typically handle the responsible disposal and recycling of the equipment, minimising environmental impact.
Energy-Efficient Options
Leasing providers often offer energy-efficient laptop models, contributing to energy savings and reduced carbon footprint. This aligns with the growing focus on environmentally conscious practices in the modern workplace.
6. Security and Data Protection
Data Security Measures
Laptop leasing providers prioritise data security. They often include data protection measures, such as encryption and remote data wiping, to safeguard sensitive information in case of loss or theft.
Regular Updates and Patches
Leasing agreements may also include regular software updates and security patches, ensuring that laptops are equipped with the latest security features and protections against emerging threats.
Conclusion
Laptop lease services are a strategic solution for meeting the demands of the modern workplace, particularly in the context of remote work. Its cost-effectiveness, access to the latest technology, scalability, maintenance and support, sustainability, and focus on security and data protection make it a compelling choice for individuals and organisations seeking to optimise their remote work environments. By embracing laptop leasing, you can enhance productivity, reduce costs, and provide your remote workforce with the tools they need to thrive in today’s dynamic work landscape.
The bedroom is more than just a place to sleep; it’s a sanctuary, a personal space where one retreats to relax, rejuvenate, and dream. As homeowners, investing in this intimate space can significantly enhance comfort, functionality, and even the property’s overall value.
As such, here are some top investments to consider for a bedroom that truly stands out:
Upgrading to a King Bed
The bed is undeniably the centerpiece of any bedroom. Upgrading to a king bed offers more sleeping space and adds a touch of luxury. A king bed can make all the difference, especially for couples or those who enjoy the extra room.
If you’re debating between getting a king vs. queen-sized bed, consider factors such as room size, personal comfort preferences, and budget. A king bed requires more space, but provides unparalleled comfort and elegance.
Investing in High-Quality Bedding
High-quality bedding is as important as the bed itself. High-thread-count sheets, plush duvets, and supportive pillows can transform your sleeping experience. Opt for natural materials like cotton or bamboo for breathability and comfort.
Installing Smart Lighting Solutions
Lighting sets the mood. Investing in adjustable lighting, such as dimmable LED lights or smart bulbs that can change colors, allows homeowners to customize the ambiance according to their mood or the time of day.
This might not seem like a major upgrade, but the difference in mood and comfort levels can be profound. You can even sync some smart lights to your music or TV, creating a truly immersive experience.
Having Built-in Wardrobes
A built-in wardrobe saves space and gives a sleek and organized look to your bedroom. It’s a great way to make the most out of space in your student room. Customize it with compartments, drawers, and lighting for a functional and stylish storage solution.
Soundproofing and Insulating Your Bedroom
For those living in bustling areas or homes with thin walls, soundproofing can be a game-changer. Consider adding acoustic panels or upgrading to double-glazed windows for a quieter bedroom environment.
Additionally, make the colder months more tolerable by insulating your bedroom. This could involve insulating walls, windows, and doors, or adding a thick, plush rug for underfoot warmth. Using thermal curtains can also help to keep the cold air out and the warm air in.
Opting for Modern Window Treatments
From blackout curtains to motorized blinds, modern window treatments offer both functionality and aesthetics. They can regulate light, provide privacy, and enhance the room’s overall look.
Putting Up Art and Personal Touches
Art pieces, whether paintings, sculptures, or wall hangings, can inject personality into the bedroom. Choose pieces that resonate with your style and evoke positive emotions.
Getting Flooring Upgrades
Whether it’s plush carpeting for a cozy feel or hardwood floors for a classic look, upgrading the bedroom flooring can drastically change its appearance and feel. Moreover, you may also want to install underfloor heating for that extra touch of luxury. This is particularly beneficial for those who live in colder climates.
Creating Your Dreamy Sanctuary
The bedroom is a reflection of one’s personal style and preferences. Making thoughtful investments lets you create a space that’s comfortable and functional. Moreover, it can be a true reflection of their personality.
Don’t overlook the importance of these upgrades. They not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the room but also contribute to the overall living experience.
