DJI launches its own power stations to charge your drones when far from home

Drone brand DJI is breaking new ground by launching its first power stations in the US, Europe, and Australia. They’re known as the Power 500 and the Power 1000 with the latter being the more powerful of the two. It has a battery capacity of 1,024 Wh capable of outputting 2,200W of energy. Even better, the company gave the chargers the ability to fast charge several of their drones. 

Charge time for all the supporting models differs slightly, but on average, it takes roughly half an hour. A drone from the Mavic 3 Series, for example, takes 32 minutes to go from 10 percent to 95 percent, according to DJI, while the Inspire 3 takes 28 minutes. In order to fast charge a drone, the device’s battery needs to have the DJI Power SDC feature and a special cable. This cable can be purchased at checkout, but it’s not universal, so you’ll need to make sure you buy the right cable. So if you have a Mavic 3 Pro, you have to get the Mavic 3 Series Fast Charge Cable. If you own an Air 3, you need to purchase the Air 3 cable and so on. 

DJI hasn’t indicated how long it takes to charge a drone without Power SDC, so all we know is that the Power 1000 station can charge drones about 12 times before it runs out of juice, easily making it one of the best portable charging stations going.

Samsung flaunts Bespoke AI home appliances at EuroCucina 2024

Samsung has been displaying the company’s home appliances at EuroCucina, one of the world’s largest events for kitchen-related products and home appliances, which takes place in Europe once every two years, for quite some time now. Well, the company participated in this year’s event too. At EuroCucina 2024, Samsung showcased the brand’s latest lineup of Bespoke AI home appliances and kitchen-related products.

Samsung had set up different zones to showcase various products and their features. At the Bespoke AI Kitchen Zone, the brand displayed the Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub+, Bespoke Kitchen Fit Dishwasher, and also Anyplace Induction. In the Laundry Room Zone, the company displayed the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, which became an instant hit in South Korea. There was also the Jet Bot Combo on display.

Samsung also gave people a look at the company’s ecosystem. At the Security & Easy Connection Zone, the brand showcased Calm Onboarding, which allows people to easily set up Samsung’s smart home products. Whereas, at the Bespoke AI Lifestyle Zone, the brand gave people a look at the 3D Map View in the SmartThings app on a Samsung smart TV, which shows all the smart home products in a house on a 3D map.

There was also the AI Energy Saving Zone, which helped attendees “learn about various SmartThings features including AI Energy Mode and the Samsung Rewards energy-saving program.” Last but not least, there was the B2B SmartThings Solutions Zone at the booth where Samsung demonstrated an “integrated management solution for multi-family and built-to-rent property managers and residents” using SmartThings Pro.

Samsung Home Up update brings icon scaling feature to Galaxy phones

Samsung has released a new update to Good Lock’s Home Up module. This new version of Home Up brings an additional home screen and app drawer customization feature. It lets you change the size of the icon to match your preferences better.

The Home Up app’s latest version (15.0.01.19) brings a new feature called App Icon Setting in the Home Screen section. This section has a new slider to adjust the app icon size. It ranges from 80% to 120%, with 100% being the default setting. You can increase or decrease the size of app icons as per your liking, and this affects app icons on both the app drawer and home screen.

The screenshots below show how app icons look when the size is set to 80%, 100%, 110%, and 120%, respectively. Some people like their app icons to appear slightly bigger than the default setting. We found the 110% setting to be a great choice. Some other settings, including displaying the app icon label on the home screen and app tray, have been moved to the App Icon Setting section of the Home Up app.

This new version of the Home Up module is now available on the Galaxy Store. However, it hasn’t been released in all the countries and markets yet, so you may not be able to spot it on the Galaxy Store in your country. The new Blink Mini 2 home security camera is on sale for only $30 right now

The Blink Mini 2 home security camera was only announced a month ago, and it’s already on sale. The camera is 25 percent off in both colors — black and white — in a deal on Amazon, bringing the already budget-friendly system down to just $30. The Blink Mini 2 can be used indoors or outdoors, offers HD footage in the daytime or at night and has an LED spotlight. It can be paired with one of Amazon’s smart displays for Alexa voice controls. The camera is a plug-in device, though, so you’ll need to place it somewhere with an outlet.

You’ll also need to pick up the weather-resistant power adapter if you intend to put it outside. A bundle including that adapter is on sale as well, shaving $10 off its normal price of $50. Amazon-owned Blink announced the Mini 2 camera in March, touting improvements to image quality and the option for HD night view in color thanks to its spotlight. The camera also has motion detection and two-way audio, so you can hear what’s going on and, if you want, let whoever’s on the other side hear you too.

With the Blink subscription, you can get additional features out of the Mini 2. That includes smart notifications, like person detection, the ability to stream up to 90 minutes of live video and cloud storage for event clips. If you already own a Blink Video Doorbell, the Mini 2 camera can be used with that system to work as a chime when someone rings the doorbell. In the box you’ll get one camera, a mounting kit and stand, and one USB-C cable and power adapter for indoor use.

Purchasing the Mini 2 will get you a 30-day free trial of the Blink Subscription Plan, too. If you plan on keeping it after that, it’ll cost $3 per month per device. You can also opt to pay $10 per month to cover an unlimited amount of devices if you have a multi-camera setup.

I tested the Google Pixel’s Long Exposure photo mode – and it’s another reason to leave my pro mirrorless camera at home

Google‘s Long Exposure photo mode is actually decent. There, I said it. Photographer me is putting his neck on the line by saying that another smartphone computational photography mode, recently given its own tab in Google’s revamped Camera app, is one less reason to use a ‘proper’ camera – and mine’s a TechRadar-approved best mirrorless camera, no less.

I was on a short family break at the coast recently and set an early alarm to sneak out for a little solo time at first light at a secluded cove nearby. It would be me, the gentle lapping waves, and hopefully a little color in the sky. Of course, I would take a camera too.

How to Make Better Coffee at Home (2024): Advice, Recommendations, Tips

First, let’s talk flavor. When you’re shopping for coffee you’ll see a lot of different words thrown around, we’re just going to focus on a couple: light, medium, and dark roasts. Each roast type is produced a little bit differently, though the longer they sizzle, the darker they get. There are other variables in there like roaster temperature, but for our purposes, we’re sticking with the basics. Every second your beans are in the roaster, they’re changing. Their aromas, their flavors, their color profile.

Light roasts come out of the roaster a light golden brown. These are usually roasted at a lower temperature or for less time, and the result is a bean that produces a lighter color and a lighter flavor. Light roasts often taste a little floral, a little fruity, almost like you can taste the coffee cherry the bean used to be nestled inside. Light roasts always taste like spring mornings in Portland to me. If light roasts had a playlist, it’d lead off with “Murder on the Dancefloor” by Sophie Ellis-Bextor for sure.

Medium roasts are what I drink almost every morning. Medium roasts tend to come out of the roaster a rich earthy brown. They taste like warm spices, caramel, and toffee, with gentle notes of chocolate. A well-brewed medium roast tastes like a relaxing fall morning to me. Because they’re right in the middle of the roast spectrum, they produce delicious coffee no matter how you brew them so they’re a great pick for their versatility, too. The medium roast playlist is the kind of thing you could listen to in the morning as you’re starting your day, or at night while you get ready to go out—filled with songs like “Pink Pony Club” by Chappell Roan.

Dark roasts are my second favorite for everyday drinking. No other roast produces the rich, deep, chocolatey, toasty complexity you get from a dark roast. Dark roasts are often used in “espresso blends” but to my palate, they make some of the best pour-over or AeroPress coffee. Either method lets those warm background flavors shine and brings out some of the spicier flavors too. For the dark roast playlist, I’d probably start with “Moonlight Magic” by Ashnikko.

Time is important for coffee beans. Time spent in shipping, time spent on the shelf, time spent on your shelf. The longer it sits, especially after roasting, the less fresh it will taste. Eventually, around the one-week mark, you’ll start to notice a decline in quality. By two weeks, it’s still drinkable but makes a much less flavorful cup of coffee. To make sure you have the longest amount of time to enjoy your coffee, your best bet is to buy local.

Samsung’s not coming out with a smart display any time soon, but still wants “screens everywhere” in your home

This weird chair is perfect for people who don’t like to sit conventionally. There are no armrests to drape your feet over, but you can revisit all your old favorites—cross-legged, sitting on your ankles until they fall asleep, or some secret third position. It’s not especially ergonomic, and there aren’t a ton of ways to adjust the fit, but it is height-adjustable and comfortable.

This is a great price for a solid standing desk that’s featured in our Work From Home Gear Guide. It’s a little tricky to put together, but for the price, it’s hard to find a better motorized standing desk. It can be adjusted from 28 to 48 inches, with three customizable height presets.

This standing desk can be lowered to just six inches above the ground. The rolling legs allow you to stash the desk away when it’s not in use, though it’s still quite heavy. It arrives fully assembled and you can lock the desk in place once it’s where you want it. It’s great for anyone who just uses a laptop and doesn’t have a proper desk space to work at home.

We haven’t tracked a better deal for this 27-inch monitor. The 1080-pixel resolution can look fuzzy up close at this screen size, but it’s just fine from a normal viewing distance. The monitor is reliable, with good colors and contrast, and there’s the option to VESA-mount it if you’d like. There are even built-in speakers, though they have the subpar quality you’d expect from monitor speakers.

This BenQ monitor is a great choice for folks who need high-quality screen real estate, like graphic designers or video editors. It hits most of the creative industry’s color accuracy standards right out of the box, and its 2K resolution ensures you won’t see any fuzzy text; it’s sharp! We haven’t seen it drop to a lower price than this.

This is a solid deal for a great wired mechanical keyboard. It’s heavy and stays put on your desk and it’s satisfying to type on. This version comes with the “Fully Assembled Knob,” which adds a nifty volume knob to the top right-hand corner of the assembly.

If you need an affordable webcam, the Razer Kiyo X checks off most of the boxes. The color saturation and white balance are excellent and the image quality is sharp. There’s an included mount that works with laptops and monitors. There isn’t a privacy shutter though.

Philips debuts three highly affordable displays for home workers — but no 4K resolution
