Save $30 on our favorite smart air purifier during the Amazon Big Spring Sale

[ad_1]

The top smart air purifier in our guide is Levoit’s Core 400S Smart Air Purifier, which is currently down to $190 as part of Amazon’s Big Spring Sale. Just be sure to click the on-page coupon to take $30 off the list price. The discount is the largest we’ve seen this year, though the unit did dip to $179 in 2022’s Black Friday sale. In our tests, the unit performed better than some of its more expensive competitors and the filters are reasonably priced at $50 (other purifiers require replacements topping $100).

Our top pick for an air purifier is $30 off with an on-page coupon as part of Amazon’s Big Spring Sale.

$190 at Amazon

Air purifiers can be a good option for days when the pollen count is high or there’s yet another wildfire burning in your region — in other words when opening a window to let in fresh air isn’t an option. The Core 400S Smart purifier can auto-detect when there’s high particulate matter in the air, adjusting the fan speed accordingly. And fortunately, the highest speed isn’t disturbingly loud, yet still circulates a good amount of air. The on-board controls are easy and the connected app is fairly easy to set schedules and the like — after you get past the superfluous forums, wellness and shopping tabs in the over-stuffed app.

It uses a three-stage system comprised of a pre filter to catch pet hair and larger dust particles, then a activated carbon layer for trapping odors and VOCs. Then there’s a HEPA filter to remove pollen, mold and even some bacteria from the air. The machine is also Energy Star and CARB certified. The design isn’t the most inspired, but the Core 400S does its job well.

iPad Air hits all-time low price

[ad_1]

iPad Air 5
Forget the M2 iPad Air and get the iPad Air 5 for $150 off.
Photo: Apple

Apple’s iPad Air lineup could get a refresh soon. But if you cannot wait for the new tablet’s imminent announcement and want an iPad Air, you can score a hefty $150 off on it right now.

This fantastic deal drops the price of the M1 iPad Air to $449, making it insanely affordable.

This post contains affiliate links. Cult of Mac may earn a commission when you use our links to buy items.

2022 iPad Air is sleek and powerful

With the 2022 iPad Air, you get a sleek tablet with a big 10.9-inch display. The tablet is slimmer than a pencil, which makes it easy to carry around.

The iPad Air lacks Face ID and a 120Hz ProMotion display like its Pro sibling. Instead, it sports a Touch ID sensor on the side button. Unless you are a power user, you won’t feel the lack of the 120Hz panel. Other downgrades include stereo speakers, a single rear camera, and no Thunderbolt support.

Inside the iPad Air is an M1 chip. The same SoC powers Apple’s 2023 iPad Pro, 2020 MacBook Air, and other devices. This means the tablet packs enough power to run your favorite iPadOS apps and games, like Final Cut Pro.

Despite so much power in such a slim package, Apple claims the M1 iPad Air provides up to 10 hours of battery life.

Save $150 on M1 iPad Air

At $599, the iPad Air is already a few hundred dollars cheaper than the iPad Pro. But if you take advantage of Amazon’s latest deal, you can save $150 on the tablet and get it for $449.

Since the entry-level iPad Air ships with 64GB storage, you should get the 256GB model. It retails for $749, but with Amazon slashing $150 off, you can have it for $599. That’s the same price you would have paid for the 64GB model. You can score a similar $150 off on the M1 iPad Air cellular variants.

This deal might not last for long, so grab the iPad Air variant you want before stocks run out.

Apple’s 2022 iPad Air packs a big 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display, a powerful M1 chip, and a claimed 10-hour of battery life in a slim and light package.

New iPad Air Now Shipping From China Ahead of Announcement

[ad_1]

The next-generation iPad Air is now reportedly shipping to the United States and other countries in preparation for launch.

iPad Air 5
The rumor comes from the leaker known as “Instant Digital,” who claims that manufacturers in China are now shipping the 2024 iPad Air in two sizes to overseas locations. “Everything is ready” for launch, the Weibo user says.

The sixth-generation ‌iPad Air‌ is rumored to feature the M2 chip, a redesigned rear camera, and specification upgrades like Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E. Most significantly, the ‌iPad Air‌ is expected to come in two sizes for the first time, just like the Apple Watch, iPad Pro, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro. One of the size options will be the same as the previous two generations at 10.9-inches, while the new addition to the lineup will apparently mirror the ‌iPad Pro‌’s 12.9-inch model.

Recent reports coming out of Asia suggest that Apple will announce new iPad models on Tuesday, March 26. According to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to release new ‌iPad Air‌ and ‌iPad Pro‌ models around the end of March or in April. The latest indications suggest that the new ‌iPad Pro‌ are now more likely to see a launch in April.

Next iPad Air Again Rumored to Feature Landscape Front Camera

[ad_1]

The next-generation iPad Air will be equipped with a landscape front camera, according to the leaker known as “ShrimpApplePro.”

iPad Air 5 Colors
If this information is accurate, the front camera on the next iPad Air would be located in the bezel to the right of the screen when the device is held upright. As a result, the front camera would be positioned at the top of the iPad when the device is in landscape orientation, making it centered with the user’s eyes during video calls. This change would be especially beneficial to those who use the iPad Air with a Magic Keyboard.

On the current iPad Air, the front camera is in the top bezel above the screen, resulting in it being off-center in landscape orientation.

The leaker does not expect the next iPad Air to have any other significant design changes. They also cast doubt on a larger 12.9-inch iPad Air, but that model has been widely rumored by multiple sources, so it would be surprising if it did not launch.

A landscape front camera had already been rumored for both the next iPad Pro and iPad Air, so it is becoming an increasingly likely design change. Apple already repositioned the front camera on the entry-level iPad 10 a few years ago, so it would make sense for the change to be expanded to the entire iPad lineup eventually.

“During ‌Face ID‌ setup, iPad needs to be in landscape with the camera at the top of the screen,” read hidden code in iPadOS 17.4.

Apple is expected to unveil new iPads in late March or in April.

“ShrimpApplePro” has a mixed track record with Apple rumors over the past few years. The leaker accurately revealed details about devices like the iPhone 15 Pro and Apple Watch Series 9, but they were incorrect about the Apple Watch Ultra 2 being available in a Space Black finish and the iPad mini being updated in 2023.

M1 MacBook Air drops to all-time low price of $649

[ad_1]

MacBook Air M1 2020
2020 MacBook Air drops to $649 after a massive discount.

Apple discontinued the M1 MacBook Air following the debut of the M3 Airs earlier this month. But you can still get your hands on the first Apple silicon laptop for as low as $649.

Best Buy is taking a whopping $350 off the M1 MacBook Air, making it insanely more affordable.

2020 MacBook Air’s performance and battery life will impress you

Apple announced the MacBook Air with M1 chip alongside the 13-inch MacBook Pro in late 2020. It was the company’s first Apple silicon laptop, and it blew the competition away with its performance, efficiency, and battery life.

Following the launch of the M2 MacBook Air in 2022, Apple cut the price of the M1 model to $999. Despite its dated design, this made the M1 Air a great entry-level machine for college students and light use. The all-day battery life is a cherry on top. It ensures the laptop lasts through a day of heavy use with ease without overheating despite its fanless design.

While reviewing the M1 MacBook Air for Cult of Mac, our editor, Leander Kahney, opened 650 Safari tabs. This was with several tasks running in the background, including downloading Photos and Office 365. If anything, this should give you an idea of the M1 MacBook Air’s incredible performance.

The same pros and cons still apply in 2024. If you can live with the M1 MacBook Air’s chunky bezels and dated design, its performance and battery life will impress you. Unlike the M3 MacBook Air, the 2020 model can only power one external display.

M1 MacBook Air for $649 is a steal deal

While Apple has officially discontinued the M1 MacBook Air, there’s no reason not to buy it. At $649, it is also the cheapest way to get a powerful MacBook for daily use. You will still get a standard one-year warranty, which you can extend further with AppleCare+.

Whether you’re looking forward to deep-cleaning your home or not, it’s a great excuse to upgrade your vacuum or add a new air purifier to your space. Below, we found a variety of great deals on a bunch of our favorite air purifiers and a variety of Dyson cordless vacuums. We also threw in some solid discounts on our top-rated Bluetooth speakers, so you can blast your favorite tunes or podcasts to help you get through those chores.

Bluetooth Speaker Deals

Sonos Beam

Sonos Beam (Gen 2) Soundbar

Photograph: Sonos

The Beam (Gen 2) has a lot of upgrades from the first-gen version, including enhanced sound with support for Dolby Atmos (with compatible TVs and streaming apps), a faster processor, and an HDMI eARC port for higher-definition audio. On the front is also a polycarbonate grille instead of a fabric cover. It also comes with support for Google Assistant, Alexa, and AirPlay 2. It dipped this low back in December, but we still think this is a great deal.

This is our favorite micro speaker in our Best Bluetooth Speakers guide. Equipped with a built-in strap, it sits flat in a bike basket, making it a great speaker for riding. It also has up to 16 hours of battery life, an IP67-rating for dust and water resistance, and the option to link two speakers together for stereo sound. It dipped as low as $37 back in November, but this is still a solid deal.

If you’re looking for a soundbar that won’t take up too much space, we recommend the Sonos Ray (9/10, WIRED Recommends). It’s compact, so you can easily place it on your dresser or entertainment center, but you can also mount it if you want to free up space. It delivers crisp, clear sound that will easily fill up your space. You can also adjust the audio settings using Sonos’ companion app.

Ultimate Ears Epic Boom Bluetooth Speaker

Photograph: Ultimate Ears

If you’re looking for an excellent medium-size speaker, the EpicBoom is our go-to pick. The pill-shaped, curvy body is easy to haul, and it projects sound well in medium-sized outdoor areas. You can also pair it to other Ultimate Ears speakers using the companion Boom app.

The Sub Mini (8/10, WIRED Review) is small, but you can rely on it to deliver a clear sound and thumping bass. It’s wireless—aside from plugging it into a power source. It pairs with your system through the Sonos app, where you can also fine-tune the subwoofer. You’ll be able to adjust sub and height audio, as well as set volume limits and bass and treble levels. You can add surround-sound speakers too.

Sonos Move 2 Portable Speaker

Photograph: Sonos

The second-generation Move (8/10, WIRED Review) comes with a variety of notable upgrades, including 24-hour battery life (a huge increase from 11 hours the last-gen delivered), a touch interface for media controls (instead of physical buttons), and the option to connect via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 (instead of having to choose between the two). In terms of sound quality, it comes with a second tweeter and third digital amplifier, which delivers punchy, detailed sound.

Air Purifier Deals

Coway Airmega 200M air purifier

Coway Airmega 200M

Photograph: Conway

The Airmega 200M is effective in spaces up to 361 feet, making this our top recommendation for small rooms. It’s compact and attractive, so it’s easy to find a space for it in your home. It’ll also save you energy—the built-in air quality monitor increases the fan speed whenever it detects particles and turns the device off when it doesn’t impact pollution.

If you’re looking for an air purifier more suitable for a larger space, the Coway Airmega 250 is a great option. It captures 99.99 percent of particulates down to 0.1 microns (making it capable of tackling wildfire smoke and big-city pollution), and the washable prefilter allows the replaceable HEPA filter to last longer. It’s also on sale at Coway for $300 ($99 off).

Rated to clean up to 1,560 square feet, this air purifier is suitable for very big rooms. It cycles all the air in that space twice per hour, but in a room half the size, the HEPA filters cycle the air four times per hour. Changing the filters is also a simple process—the magnetic covers are easy to take off, and the filters conveniently snap in and out. The air purifier feels intuitive to use too, thanks to the touch controls and color-coded air quality monitor ring. This discount only applies to the white colorway. Both the white and black versions are also on sale through Coway’s site for $441 and $457, respectively.

Levoit Core 300S Air Purifier

Levoit Core 300S

Photograph: Levoit

This is our favorite smart air purifier. It can cycle air five times per hour in spaces up to 219 square feet, making it ideal for bedrooms, living rooms, and kitchens. It also comes with a prefilter, an activated carbon filter, and an H13 True HEPA filter that captures 99.99 percent of bacteria and mold. Although it’s technically a tabletop air purifier, it’s on the larger side (we’ve been keeping it on our living room floor), but it’s easy to carry from room to room. While you can control it using the touch controls on top, you can also use the VeSync companion app to adjust the settings and check the air quality indoors.

This air purifier looks like an end table, so it’ll easily blend in with your furniture. It doubles as a Qi wireless charger too—set your phone right on top of it and it’ll start charging. It should work with any phone that has support for wireless charging, but you might need to take the case off. It’s also powerful (with the ability to clean up to 649 square feet) as well as easy to control and clean. This discount only applies to the white colorway.

The Airmega Aim is advertised as an air purifier that’s small enough to sit on your desk, but it’s bigger than it looks in photos (coming in at 18.5 x 19.7 x 8.03 inches). It’s still pretty compact compared to other air purifiers we’ve tested. Rated for rooms between 246 and 492 square feet, it works well in smaller spaces. It doubles as a fan too, which auto-oscillates up to 80 degrees and tilts to 90 degrees—so it’ll come in handy once the weather gets even warmer.

Robot Vacuum Deals

Roborock Q5 Pro vacuum

Roborock Q5 Pro+

Photograph: Roborock

We’re fans of the Roborock Q5+ (9/10, WIRED Recommends), and the Pro model is basically the same vacuum for the same price. But it does come with a few additional features, including a detachable mop pad, a larger dustbin (770 milliliters instead of 470 ml as seen on the previous version). It has slightly stronger suction and a bit more run time too. You’ll also get lidar detection and software features like automatic cliff detection, the ability to create multiple maps and set different cleaning zones via a companion app, and more.

This is our favorite vac-mop combo in our Best Robot Vacuums guide. Shark’s AI Ultra 2-in-1 (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is much more affordable than its competitors and packs about 90 percent of the functionality. It does a good job vacuuming and scrubbing your floors with the included mopping bin (we used Shark’s proprietary cleaning solution that’s sold separately, but you can also use water). We also like that it uses laser navigation instead of cameras. Once it maps your home, you can use the companion app to set vacuum and mopping zones.

The Roomba j7+ has powerful suction, a bin that automatically empties itself when it’s full, and a feature called Genius that teaches your Roomba about your cleaning schedules and personal preferences—rather than manually programming the information yourself. It’s worth noting that Amazon acquired iRobot back in 2022, but iRobot has assured WIRED that there is no way Amazon can use the data gathered from inside your home. The price dipped slightly lower to $440 earlier this month, but we still think this is a good deal.

Eufy RoboVac X8 robot vacuum

Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

Photograph: Eufy

Eufy’s RoboVac X8 Hybrid is a great option if you have pets. It has twin turbines—each of which generate up to 2,000 Pa of suction energy—so it can suck up twice as much in just one pass. WIRED reviews editor Adrienne So said that the X8 Hybrid’s maps were too wonky for her to trust it to lug a full 250-milliliter tank of water around her house, but it was the perfect vacuum to deep-clean debris and dog hair. It’s ideal if you have an enclosed area that regularly needs deep cleaning.

Dyson Vacuum Deals

Dyson Gen5 Detect Vacuum

Dyson Gen5detect Cordless Vacuum

Photograph: Best Buy

This is Dyson’s latest top-of-the-line cordless vacuum. It has a single power button instead of a trigger, a brighter Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head (which shoots out a green laser to illuminate dust particles), and the company’s fastest motor yet—spinning at 135,000 revolutions per minute with a suction power of 262 AW. Dyson also added a HEPA filter that it claims traps 99.99 percent of particles down to 0.1 microns. If you don’t want to shop at Amazon, it’s also on sale at Best Buy and Dyson for $800 ($150 off).

The Omni-Glide is best for hard floors. The head has two soft rollers and four swiveling casters, allowing you to push it in any direction. Weighing in at only 4 pounds, it’s also lightweight and easy to maneuver. It has a small dust bin that fills up quickly and isn’t powerful enough to work well on carpets, so we only recommend it if you’re using it for a small space that’s free of carpet. It’s also worth noting that if you’re purchasing this vacuum from Target, you’ll see the discount at checkout.

Dyson Ball Animal 3 Vacuum

If you prefer a corded vacuum over a stick vacuum, the Ball Animal 3 Extra (9/10, WIRED Recommends) is an excellent choice—especially for unruly pet hair. As the successor to the Animal Ball 2, it has a bigger bin, a Motorbar cleaner head, and three different power modes—one for deep- and medium-pile carpets, another for low-pile carpets, and a third for hardwood floors. This model also comes with a tangle-free turbine tool (for removing dirt and pet hair from upholstery) and a grooming tool for pets with medium or long hair.

The Ball Animal 2 is older and more expensive than the third-generation version. It offers the same powerful suction (at 290 AW) and some of the same accessories (like the tangle-free turbine tool). But it also comes with a self-adjusting cleaner head that automatically raises and lowers the base plate to seal in suction on all floor types. The Motorbar cleaning head on the Ball Animal 3 requires you to switch floor types manually via a switch.

Best Buy Selling M1 MacBook Air for $650, a New All-Time Low Price

[ad_1]

Best Buy is selling the 13-inch M1 MacBook Air for $649.99, which is the lowest price that we’ve seen to date on the machine. Best Buy’s price drop comes just hours after Walmart started selling the M1 MacBook Air for $699.

Just after Apple announced the new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models, Best Buy started selling the M1 MacBook Air for $750, so the price has come down $100 in the last 10 days. The model that Best Buy has for $649.99 is the entry-level version with 8GB Unified Memory, an 8-core CPU, a 7-core GPU, and a 256GB SSD.

Apple discontinued the M1 MacBook Air on March 4, which is why we’re seeing such low prices on remaining inventory. The M1 MacBook Air first came out in 2020, so it is four years old at this point, but the Apple silicon chip is still more than adequate for day-to-day tasks. $649 is a great price for those who want to get an Apple silicon Mac while also saving some cash.

As the M1 MacBook Air is no longer being manufactured, available supply is likely to dry up soon. For deals on other Macs, make sure to check out our dedicated Deals Roundup, which we updated regularly.

OLED iPad Air might be on hold until 2028

[ad_1]

OLED iPad Air preview
An iPad Air with an OLED display might be four years away.

While the first iPad Pro with an OLED display is expected any day now, iPad Air fans will have a much longer wait. Possibly until 2028. That’s what an analyst predicted, anyway.

However, this contradicts a previous report that said an OLED iPad Air would be out in 2026.

No OLED iPad Air until 2028

With OLED (short for organic light-emitting diode) displays, each pixel glows on its own. The result is a bright, even image with strong contrast. This type of screen looks so good, it’s already used for iPhone and Apple Watch. And numerous leaks point to an OLED iPad Pro launching in March or perhaps April.

But don’t hold you breath for the screen tech to appear in Apple’s mid-range line of tablets. “We expect the iPad Air to change to OLED in 2028,” said Kang Min-soo, a senior analyst with Omdia, according to the Korean-language site The Elec (machine translation).

Or maybe sooner?

That said, it’s possible the improved screen tech will become part of the Air product line much sooner. In late 2023, a separate report also coming out of Asia predicted an OLED iPad Air would launch in 2026.

An iPad mini with OLED will also allegedly debut at the same time.

The wait is about OLED cost

As noted, OLEDs are bright, with excellent contrast. And the panels don’t require backlights — pixels glow on their own. That will supposedly allow the 2024 iPad Pro to be 22% thinner than the current model.

For all the improvements, there’s a significant drawback: OLED panels cost more than traditional LEDs. That’s expected to push up the price of the next iPad Pro, though perhaps not as much as had been feared.

The iPad Air line sits between the Pro and “standard” iPad models. Including a high-end screen that pushes the price up too high would mean that Apple has two premium tablets and no mid-range one. So perhaps it makes sense for a four year wait before OLED comes to the Air.
