There’s good news for fans of William Gibson’s fictional AINeuromancer and Wednesday, the ongoing tales of Charles Addams’ creepy and kooky family. Both shows’ already impressive casts have just announced some equally impressive new additions.
First up, BAFTA award-nominated Callum Turner from Masters of the Airand The Boys in the Boat is going to be appearing in Neuromancer. Based on Gibson’s book of the same name, it’s a 10-part Apple TV Plus series following a largely broken top-tier hacker called Case (Turner). Case stumbles into a tangled web of electronic espionage and corporate skulduggery with suitably thrilling results, and the source novel won stacks of literary awards and helped define what would come to be known as cyberpunk.
I’ve got high hopes for this one. I loved Gibson’s books but despite Keanu Reeve’s best efforts in JohhnyMnemonic, which was based on one of Gibson’s short stories, he’s proved hard to adapt well. This new series is coming from the same production company as Foundation, so the omens here are very good indeed.
See you next Wednesday
Every new casting announcement for Wednesday season two is an exciting one, and fresh from the revelation that Steve Buscemi would be appearing in the second season of the Netflix show we have another massive name: Thandiwe Newton. Best known for her Emmy-winning role in Westword, Newton was also great in movies such as Crash, Beloved and The Pursuit of Happyness.
The casting news comes via Variety, which has the exclusive – but unfortunately Variety’s sources don’t yet know any more details. And that’s true of season two more widely. As Variety says: “Few details are available about the new season of Wednesday, aside from the fact Jenna Ortega will return as the titular Addams Family daughter going through her teenage years.” The show is one of Netflix’s biggest ever hits and racked up an incredible 12 Emmy nominations, of which it won four – so you can see why Netflix managing to attract such big-name talent for the second season.
Both Neuromancer and season two of Wednesday are expected to stream this year, although there’s no news of a streaming date for either show just yet.

Improvement and Fixes:
Pro Lead and Pro Bass
Added two new song parts: Pro Lead and Pro Bass! All current and future Jam Tracks now have these two playable song parts, accessible on the Main Stage with a guitar controller.
Pro Lead and Pro Bass have hammer-on and pull-off notes. When you have a streak going, you can hit these notes without strumming!
Pro Lead and Pro Bass have colored notes for each lane, corresponding with the guitar controller’s buttons.
Leaderboards now have new listings to support Pro Lead and Pro Bass scores. Climb to the top!
To support the release of Pro Lead and Pro Bass, we’ve updated the Overdrive color for all song parts from bright orange to silver-white. How you gather and activate Overdrive hasn’t changed, but we felt with the added note colors that Overdrive needed to appear more distinct.
For now, the whammy bar only provides a visual effect. There is no audio distortion or extra Overdrive energy when whammying.
We’re continuing to improve the feel of playing with a guitar controller and want your feedback! For rhythm-rocking veterans, there may be situations where you miss a note you’d expected to hit, or where a familiar Jam Track feels different. Let us know your thoughts as you don the axe in Fortnite Festival. We’re excited to see you shred!
Tuning Up
The Music Library now shows an expanded set of stats, showing your selected Instrument type’s best performance in each Jam Track row.
The Music Library is now also ordered with new and featured Jam Tracks at the top by default (this can be re-sorted), allowing players with large libraries to easily access Quest-relevant Jam Tracks.
New Wristband Quests and rewards have been added.
Season 2 leaderboard scores have been recorded and archived. The leaderboards await your new top performances with Season 3!
For more convenient song selection, you’ll be closer to the organ when you arrive Backstage. No more sprinting to make your setlist!
There are more stats on the Results screen after each performance. You can now see the percentage of notes hit and missed and the average from your other performances to see how you’ve improved.
We’ve reordered the song parts selection menu to Vocals > Bass > Lead > Drums.
We fixed a bug that was granting a “Double Overdrive” meter during certain note sections.
Apple TV+ renewed its hit alternative-history sci-fi show For All Mankind Wednesday for a fifth season and, while it was at it, threw in a whole new spinoff series. For All Mankind spinoff Star City will delve further into secrets of the Soviet space program.
Apple TV+ renews For All Mankind and spins off new series Star City
Award-winning space drama series For All Mankind — which rewrites the history of the space race — will return for season five, Apple TV+ finally revealed.
But that’s not all. The show’s creators, Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, will launch a brand-new spinoff series, Star City. It’s named after the Soviet/Russian space program’s longtime HQ outside of Moscow.
“Our fascination with the Soviet space program has grown with every season of For All Mankind,” said executive producers and showrunners Wolpert and Nedivi. “The more we learned about this secret city in the forests outside Moscow where the Soviet cosmonauts and engineers worked and lived, the more we wanted to tell this story of the other side of the space race.”
Here’s how Apple TV+ describes the new show:
A robust expansion of the For All Mankind universe, Star City is a propulsive, paranoid thriller that takes us back to the key moment in the alt-history retelling of the space race — when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon. But this time, we explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humanity forward.
Wolpert, Nedivi, and Moore created the new show. Along with showrunners Nedivi and Wolpert, Moore and Maril Davis of Tall Ship Productions serve as executive producers. Sony Pictures Television produces the show as well as For All Mankind.
For All Mankind season 5
Apple TV+ pointed out that For All Mankind has been called “one of the best shows on television.” And its fourth season holds a perfect 100% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.
“With each new season, For All Mankind continues to build out a fascinating world and capture global audiences through high quality storytelling that has been so skillfully developed by Ron, Matt and Ben,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+.
“There is so much to explore, and we, along with our partners at Sony, can’t wait to dive into this next chapter of the engrossing For All Mankind universe,” he added.
The latest season of For All Mankind rocketed the series into the new millennium. In the eight years since season three, Happy Valley has rapidly expanded its footprint on Mars by turning former foes into partners. It’s now 2003, and the focus of the space program has turned to the capture and mining of extremely valuable, mineral-rich asteroids that could change the future of both Earth and Mars. But simmering tensions between the residents of the now-sprawling international base threaten to undo everything they are working toward.

Rebecca Ferguson, star of hit sci-fi series Silo on Apple TV+, just laid out the show’s possible future in an interview. So Silo continues on Apple TV+, and perhaps not just the second season we already knew about. That’s good news for the show’s many fans wondering what’s next, after that acclaimed first season.
Not only is season 2 filming finally complete after delays. There are reasons to hope third and fourth seasons are coming, too.

Silo continues on Apple TV+: Star Rebecca Ferguson provides update on upcoming season(s)
But perhaps the bigger news comes in her comments speculating on seasons 3 and 4. Though not yet green-lighted by Apple for production to proceed, the seasons might film at the same time to efficiently bring the show to a logical end from a production standpoint, Ferguson implied.
But not just from a production standpoint. Four seasons would match the source material, with an apparent plan to spread the three books over four seasons.
Silo is based on Hugh Howrey’s dystopian book series of the same name. It tells the story of a community living for many generations in a giant silo that is said to protect them from the outside world’s toxic environment. But nobody knows who built it. And of course, a silo like that can also be an incubator for conspiracy theories.
‘The show has an ending’
“I believe that the show has an ending, and I know when that is. So that’s the answer. You will find out when the show is done. To be honest, I don’t think it’s a secret,” Ferguson said.
“The books are the books. It’s three books, and the three books are divided into four seasons. So I believe, unless any Apple person is gonna jump on, I think we’re absolutely fine with saying season one, we’ve done,” she added. “Season two is shot and coming out, and we’re now looking at green-lighting seasons three and four. And I think we would film them maybe together, and that would be the end.”
In addition to Ferguson, Silo cast members include Common (The Chi), Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation), Tim Robbins (Mystic River), David Oyelowo (Selma), Harriet Walter (Succession), Chinaza Uche (Dickinson) and Avi Nash (The Walking Dead).
Silo continues on Apple TV+ for a reason
Season one episodes started airing in May 2023. They drew critical acclaim. And then, two weeks before the first season’s finale, Apple approved the second season, which it doesn’t always do so promptly.
At the time, screenwriter and showrunner Graham Yost said, “Apple has believed in our vision from day one and it’s an honor to have the opportunity to dig deeper into this story and peel back the layers to our characters in the Silo.”
Looks like that peeling back may continue until the story reaches “the end.”

Star Trek: Lower Decks – arguably the best Star Trek series, if its flawless ratings from critics are anything to go by – will make its final voyage later this year. The show will come to a close after its next season, its fifth, which is expected to air later in 2024.
But there’s some solace for Star Trek fans, as Stark Trek: Strange New Worlds has been renewed for a fourth season. If a fifth season is the streaming equivalent of the red uniform that indicates one of the teleported team isn’t coming back, that means Star Trek: Strange New Worlds should still be around for at least one more season after that.
The news of Star Trek: Lower Decks’ cancellation comes via show creator Mike McMahan and co-producer Alex Kurtzman. In a message shared with the Star Trek website, they wrote: “We wanted to let you know that this fall will be the fifth and final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks. While five seasons of any series these days seems like a miracle, it’s no exaggeration to say that every second we’ve spent making this show has been a dream come true.”
Stay tuned for the “hilarious” fifth and final season
According to the duo: “We’re excited for the world to see our hilarious fifth season which we’re working on right now, and the good news is that all previous episodes will remain on Paramount+ so there is still so much to look forward to as we celebrate the Cerritos crew with a big send-off… We remain hopeful that even beyond season five, Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford and the whole Cerritos crew will live on with new adventures.”
Fans of the show will be disappointed. It’s been consistently great, with season four currently sitting at an impressive 100% on Rotten Tomatoes – that’s higher than even the first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which has 99%. As Rolling Stone put it: “Next Generation and Deep Space Nine took a while to find themselves, and so did Lower Decks” – the fourth season has “become a highlight of this current phase of TV Trek”.
Hopefully it’s some consolation that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been renewed for another season. It’s currently sitting with a 98% rating based on 99% for season one and 97% for season two. CBR says “it’s shows like Strange New Worlds that confirm there is plenty of life in the venerable science fiction franchise, giving fans plenty to look forward to every Thursday for the exciting adventures of Captain Pike and his Enterprise”, while The Mary Sue says that “Strange New Worlds shows that there’s still plenty of life left in the classic Star Trek format.”
All the seasons so far of Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds are streaming on Paramount Plus.

While I know first-hand how awesome the digital world of technology is – if I didn’t love it then I’d be in the wrong profession – I’m also the first to admit it can all get a little overwhelming.
Back in January, I offered my personal board game recommendations to help you fend off the New Year blues without turning on a screen, and this month I want to do the same for three trading card games (TCGs) that I love – and that don’t require any tech for you to enjoy them.
More importantly, they’ve all just had new releases on March 8. So if you’re reading this when it gets published, your friendly local game store might be running events where you can check these games out in a beginner-friendly environment.
Card games are my go-to way to get away from tech, and I’ve found that they’ve been a really useful tool for meeting new people so I can combat the rise in loneliness brought about in the post-pandemic era we find ourselves in. I hope they can help you too.
So, with that all in mind, here are my low-fi, low-tech recommendations for March 2023.
Magic The Gathering x Fallout
Rather than gaming on a PS5 or one of the best gaming laptops, why not bring the game to the kitchen table with one of the new Fallout Commander Decks for Magic The Gathering. Of the three TCGs on this list, Magic is by far my favorite, and Commander is one of the best ways to play the game.
Ideally played with four players (though games with more or fewer players are allowed), each person has a 100-card deck – one stack of 99 and a 100th ‘Commander’ that sits separately from the rest and can be cast at any time during your turn. By playing a mixture of lands and spells, your goal is to bring your opponent’s life totals from 40 to zero (you can also win if their deck runs out of cards or you achieve a special win condition based on the cards you play) before you’re eliminated.
(Image credit: Shutterstock / Ivan Krivenko)
Because of its multiplayer format, I find Commander is more casual and a lot more social than other card games. It’s easier to chat during matches, and sometimes you’ll need to work together with other players rather than against them to stop whoever is ahead from stomping you both.
What makes these Fallout decks special is that they feature exclusive new game pieces and reprints of iconic cards from the game’s 30-year-long history that show characters, themes, and items from the Fallout video game series – which is soon to be a TV show on Prime Video.
There are four to choose from: ‘Scrappy Survivors’ headed up by Fallout 4’s loyal canine companion Dogmeat, ‘Hail Caeser’ for all of you who love to play the villain, ‘Science!’ if you’re fascinated by Fallout’s Nuclear science, or ‘Mutant Menace’ if you’re interested in irradiated monsters and hazards that have been left in wake of the ‘Great War.’
If you’ve never played Magic before, picking up one of these decks is an excellent place to start. Not only does it take all the hassle out of designing your deck – a challenge for newer players – but while I’ve yet to use one of these specific decks myself, I’ve seen plenty of preconstructed Commander decks like these win games straight out of the box.
You can also bling out your new deck with exclusive-Fallout Collector Boosters which offer exclusive reprints and artwork not found in the decks. Though the disadvantage is you don’t know what you’re getting, and one pack can be pricey – so you might be better off buying the exact card you want from your local game store or online (I use eBay and Cardmarket).
Lorcana: Into the Inklands
If you prefer Disney to Fallout or are a little newer to TCGs and frightened by the complexity of the game, then you might want to try Lorcana instead – a game that brings the best Disney films to life in cardboard form.
The game shares a lot of similarities with Magic, chiefly that you have a resource – Ink in your Inkwell – that you use to summon iconic Disney characters, play items, and use special powers. But it has several advantages that I think make it way more approachable for people who aren’t super familiar with card games – while still being a blast for veterans like myself.
The first is that the new Into the Inklands set is only the game’s third expansion. While it does add an exciting new card type – Locations that your characters can visit, and that offer benefits for as long as you have them in play – the card pool is still very easy to wrap your head around.
Also, the recognizability of the Disney characters puts their abilities into context.
The Titans in Hercules are all about destroying Greece and Olympus, so it makes sense that they like to mess with Locations in Lorcana; there are famously 99 Dalmatian puppies (with mum and dad Perdita and Pongo making 101) so it makes sense that you can have 99 of them in your deck instead of the usual limit of four; and the Mousketeers are all about protecting Princess Minnie in the film, so, of course, they’d be Bodyguards who protect your other characters.
Lastly, Lorcana has simplified a few rules you might know from Magic. Rather than special cards you use for Ink, you can play most cards face down in your Inkwell to build up your resources – making deckbuilding way simpler. Plus, opponents can’t play cards on your turn, so you generally only have to worry about what’s on the table in front of you, especially hidden info that can disrupt your strategy for each turn.
If you’re looking to try the game out, a draft or sealed event at your local game store is an excellent way to start. Everyone only plays with the cards they open at the event so you don’t have to fret about someone stomping you with a deck they’ve dropped hundreds on.
Alternatively, a couple of starter decks can be a fun way to learn with a friend. They aren’t the most competitive, but they are well-balanced against each other and show off most of the core mechanics.
Star Wars: Unlimited
Lastly, if you feel three set releases are still too many then why not try Star Wars Unlimited? It has just launched its first-ever set. So if you go and play you’ll be just as much of a noob as anyone else there.
This also means this is the game I’m least familiar with – I’ve only played it once or twice – but so far it seems to be a blast.
It combines a few ideas already seen in this list – the familiarity of characters and locations, cards as your resource (here called Resources), and the Commander (here called a Leader, who’s paired with a Base of your choice) from Magic The Gathering. But there’s also a lot of freedom that satisfies the Unlimited name.
Image 1 of 2
If Luke Skywalker is your Leader, you’re incentivized to play Heroism and Vigilance cards – aspects that fit his on-screen personality. But if you want to throw the odd Villainy or Aggression card in, you can embrace the Dark Side – albeit at a cost of more resources.
Because it’s so new, your local store will likely be running lots of beginner-friendly events. I’ve found store staff are generally very happy to help TCG newcomers get to grips with any of the options on this list (as well as others like Pokemon, Flesh and Blood, and One Piece), and they should be especially ready to aid you and others with this completely new release.
There’s also a Starter Kit on sale that comes with two decks and a bunch of handy cardboard and paper accessories so you and a friend can get up to speed on the new Star Wars Unlimited experience in your own time.
