You may not want to spend top dollar on a new Mac or iPad, but how about bargain-basement deals on older Apple gear? That’s what Amazon bargain site Woot! asks with its latest sale on 40 items.

As the site says: “Apple iMacs, MacBooks, and iPads: Whether you need a big-screen powerhouse, a portable productivity partner, or a tablet to rule them all, we’ve got the iDevices you crave.”

You’ve got a little over a week to shop a wide range of Apple computers, some rather old (and really cheap) and some not so long in the tooth. The sale ends at 10 p.m. Pacific on April 6. See some highlights below.

And if you’re in the market for new Apple accessories, Woot! also offers $3 off with promo code APPLEBITE (although that sale ends March 31.)

Woot sale on Macs and iPads brings bargain-basement deals

Woot’s sale through April 6 covers 40 Macs and iPads (and a few accessories, like iPad keyboards). The oldest Mac dates back to 2014 (!), but much of the gear hails from 2020 through 2023.

And just one product is sold out so far — a 2022 13.3-inch M2 MacBook Pro. That leaves 27 MacBooks, three iMacs, one Mac mini, one Mac Studio, three iPads and two iPad keyboard folios for you to check out.

See some Woot sale on Macs and iPads highlights below.

Samsung Galaxy S24 phones are on sale for record-low prices at Amazon

[ad_1]

Samsung makes some of the best Android phones you can get right now and the latest models have dropped to all-time-low prices. If you’ve been waiting for a good deal on the high-end Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, you’re in luck — the handset with 256GB of storage is $150 off and down to $1,150. The Galaxy S24+ is also on sale for $850 right now.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has dropped to its lowest price to date of $1,150.

$1,150 at Amazon

We gave the Galaxy S24 Ultra a score of 89 in our review. We found it to be very expensive (this discount helps mitigate that!) and the design and lack of Qi 2 support were drawbacks. However, we appreciated the camera upgrades and felt the S24 Ultra delivered great performance and offered terrific battery life. It often had a 50 percent charge remaining after 24 hours of regular use, thanks to the large battery and power efficiency gains afforded by the new processor.

One other major thing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset powers is a host of on-device generative AI (GAI) features, the big selling point for the Galaxy lineup this year as Samsung tries to compete with Google Pixel devices on that front. An interpreter mode can translate languages during calls, while the Chat Assist tool can check the grammar, spelling and tone of your messages before sending them. There are also AI-powered options for image editing and search. While the AI tools more or less work as expected, we felt that they’re not quite as polished as Google’s versions. Nevertheless, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is our pick for the best premium Android phone.

The Galaxy S24+ also has a $150 discount right now. That too marks a record low for a version with 256GB of storage — the handset currently costs $850. Like its smaller sibling, the S24, the S24+ earned a score of 87 in our review. We appreciated the battery life and (for the most part) the GAI tools, though we felt that low-light photography performance was somewhat lacking. Those who prefer foldables may be more interested in the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Again, that’s $150 off at $850 for 256GB of storage. However, it’s $50 more than the lowest price we’ve seen for the handset thus far.

WIRED senior associate reviews editor Adrienne So says this is currently her favorite smartwatch. The second-generation version (9/10, WIRED Recommends) comes with a high-resolution display, improved solar charging, and an insanely impressive 21-day battery life (even when tracking multiple activities per day), all packed into a compact 40-mm case. (You can also choose a 45-mm or 50-mm size.) It’s a great option for tracking outdoor workouts or activities like camping, trail running, and more. The price has dipped as low as $300 back in November, but this is still a great deal.

The Forerunner 255 (8/10, WIRED Recommends) holds the title of Best Running Watch in our Best Fitness Trackers guide. It packs a ton of great features, including multiband GPS support, a compass, a barometric altimeter, Bluetooth compatibility with a variety of heart rate monitors, and improved sleep tracking. It has excellent battery life, too—WIRED reviewer Scott Gilbertson says he got about 30 hours of continuous use. You’ll also have access to useful features like Morning Report (which includes a daily greeting, weather, and more) and Body Battery (which measures your energy throughout the day, based on other metrics like activity, sleep, and VO2 Max). It dipped slightly lower to $239 earlier this month, but it’s still a good deal.

Garmin Venu SQ

The Venu SQ (8/10, WIRED Recommends) was released back in 2020, but Garmin wearables are known for their longevity. This is still a great entry-level fitness tracker. It has an always-on LCD touchscreen that’s both responsive and bright, along with high-end features like energy level monitoring, blood oxygen monitoring, and sleep tracking—in addition to tracking basic metrics like step count, calories, workouts, and more. The Venu SQ often dips to this price at Amazon and reached as low as $116 in January, but this is still a solid deal.

An excellent AMD budget gaming CPU is now on sale for less than $200 at Walmart

[ad_1]

AMD puts out some of the best processors on the market that can compete with Intel’s, including the best cheap processors that are sure to play gently with your wallet. And right now Walmart is offering an excellent deal on a Ryzen 5 processor, bringing it down to a budget-friendly price.

The AMD Ryzen 5 7600 is currently on sale for $198.99 at Walmart, putting it $30 under its current retail price of $229. It’s a great option for those who want a six-core AM5 platform processor, but don’t have access to the Ryzen 5 7500F. We also reviewed the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X version and gave it four and a half out of five stars,

If you’re interested in getting your hands on an excellent gaming processor that’s wallet-friendly, then you’ll want to take advantage of this fantastic sale while you still can.

Today’s best AMD Ryzen 5 7600 CPU deal

The AMD Ryzen 5 7600 is one of the best AMD processors when it comes to pricing versus performance. It features six cores that, due to AMD Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT), are effectively doubled to 12 cores. It also has 32 MB of L3 cache and runs at 3.8 GHz but can boost up to 5.1 GHz.

There are two downsides. First, it lacks 3D V-cache. That’s a method that stacks cache vertically – tripling the CPU’s L3 cache – leading to faster calculations and a nice speed increase. The second is that it tends to run hot for a budget processor, so you’ll need a solid heat sink or general ventilation.

Follow TechRadar on TikTok for news, reviews, unboxings, and hot deals!

The Apple Watch SE is back on sale for $189 during the Amazon Spring Sale

[ad_1]

The Amazon Big Spring Sale isn’t over yet, and new deals are still popping up all over the site on everything from outdoor cameras to smartwatches—including our favorite budget Apple Watch for 2024. The second-generation Apple Watch SE is 24 percent off, dropping to $189 from $249. It’s not the device’s record-low price, but the $60 off brings it pretty close.

Apple

The second-gen Apple Watch SE garnered an 89 in our review thanks to the comprehensive features it offers for much less money than the company’s alternatives. The smartwatch has all the usual options, like heart-rate monitoring, crash detection, and emergency calling. The retina display offers up to 1,000 nits brightness, and the battery lasts 18 hours.

If you’re considering buying an Apple Watch SE, one thing to keep in mind is that it’s not IPX6 rated for dust resistance like the Series 8 and Ultra. However, it is water resistant up to 50 meters.

Baseus laptop power bank proves that thin is in [Review] [ON SALE]

[ad_1]

Baseus Blade 2 Ultra-Thin Laptop Power Bank is loaded with great features, including two USB-C ports, 12,000 mAh of capacity, a max of 65W output and a built-in status display.

But what sets it part from the pack is its design. It’s slim enough to go easily into bags designed for MacBook and iPad. And it’s relatively lightweight, too.

I tested the Baseus Blade 2 with my gear. Here’s how well the accessory lived up to its promise.

March 25 only: Baseus is offering $30 off the regular cost. But the deal ends TODAY.

Baseus Blade 2 Ultra-Thin Laptop Power Bank review

Whenever I travel or just work remotely, I bring an external battery for my laptop. Whether I’m working or watching video, I don’t want to take even a chance of running out of juice. And I’ve learned through painful experience I can’t depend on finding a power socket when I need one.

I wish I didn’t have to because these power banks were always so bulky. I put my iPad Pro with a Magic Keyboard Case in a small messenger bag, and adding an external battery with enough juice to make a real difference feels like adding a brick.

But that’s not what the Baseus Blade 2 feels like. Rather than the usual blocky shape, it’s wide and thin — like a notebook.

But there’s room for not just the necessities like two USB-C ports, but a useful and cool status display screen.

Thinner is better in a portable power bank

Baseus Blade 2 Ultra-Thin Laptop Power Bank: Side View
Thin is in … in your laptop bag.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

If it isn’t obvious already, the reason I love Baseus’ newest power bank is its 6.4-inch by 5.2-inch by 0.4-inch design. For comparison, my previous favorite is almost three times that thick.

To be clear, Blade 2 doesn’t actually take up less room than other high-capacity power banks. But its slim shape makes it fit better in bags designed to hold notebooks.

Also, the weight comes in at 0.75 pounds. That’s not feather light, but it’s low enough that I don’t really feel it in my gear bag.

Just the right ports

Baseus Blade 2 Ultra-Thin Laptop Power Bank: Two USB-C ports
Two USB-C ports are ready for your MacBook, iPad or iPhone.
Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

We are finally, finally putting the USB-A port behind us. You’ll find on one edge of Blade 2 a pair of USB-C ports, just the number you need to charge up your MacBook and iPhone at the same time.

And that seems to be Baseus’ plan because one of these ports can deliver 40W while the second tops out at 25 W. Or the accessory can deliver up to 65W to one device if only its first USB-C port is used.

Either port can be used to recharge the power bank itself at up to 60W. Some rival external batteries support charging through only one of their USB-C ports.

And a status screen, too

Something else that helps Baseus Blade 2 stand out from the pack is a small screen that displays exactly how much of a charge remains and how much power is flowing to each device. It’s a premium feature, and one I very much appreciate. I like to be sure my gear is really getting charged, and how quickly.

Beyond that, the notebook power bank makes predictions about how soon it will run out of power, or how long it will take to recharge. My testing shows these are somewhat accurate, but can’t take into account the fact that the batteries in Apple devices take in less power as they approach 100%.

Activate the screen with a button on one edge of the accessory.

Good performance from the laptop power bank

Baseus Blade 2 Ultra-Thin Laptop Power Bank: Performance
Blade 2 can keep a couple of Apple gadgets going for many hours.
Photo: Baseus

Baseus Blade 2 Ultra-Thin Laptop Power Bank holds 12,000mAh. To be fair, many other premium external batteries hold 20,000mAh or more, which helps make this one thinner.

But it nevertheless holds enough power to be quite useful. Battery sizes vary between Apple devices, of course, but I tested it with my usual computers.

Blade 2 raised the battery level in my iPad Pro by 85%, almost doubling the useful time. The tablet was charging at approximately 35W, the most it can take.

As for my iPhone 15 Plus, Baseus’ power bank was able to raise the battery level 150% over successive charging cycles. That’s enough for a whole weekend of use.

I actually got the opportunity to use the charging accessory on an overnight trip. When I woke up the second day, the iPad battery was at a little under 50% while the iPhone battery was about two-thirds empty. I plugged them into Baseus’ product and 45 minutes later they both had roughly 90% charges while the Blade 2 had given all the power it could. That’s a nice result for an accessory this portable.

When I got home, recharging it took roughly an hour using my best wall charger, which was sending over 50W.

Baseus promises that the battery is good for 20,000 recharging cycles.

Baseus Blade 2 Ultra-Thin 65W Laptop Power Bank final thoughts

Baseus Blade 2 thin laptop charger
The Blade 2 is super-thin for portability.
Photo: Baseus

This product should be a wake-up call to makers of other laptop power banks: thin is in. A slender accessory fits in the cases we use for our notebook computers far better than a blocky one does.

Baseus went for 12,000mAh, which is of mid-range size. But there’s still enough to add hours of use to a MacBook. Or days of use to an iPhone. And dual USB-C ports are just right.

The price is decent for a premium power bank from a reputable company.

★★★★★

I really couldn’t find any negatives in the product, and I always look for downsides.

Pricing

Baseus Blade 2 Ultra-Thin 65W Laptop Power Bank goes for $99. But today only, March 25, get $30 off by using code 30OFFBLADE from either:

Buy it from: Baseus or Amazon

If you prefer a laptop power bank with many of the same premium features but much more storage capacity, I recommend the HyperJuice 245W USB-C Battery Pack. It’s not as thin but holds a whopping 27,000mAh. My review gives the details.

Baseus provided Cult of Mac with a review unit for this article. See our reviews policy, and check out more in-depth reviews of Apple-related items.

Pick up the 2023 Echo Show 8 with a free smart bulb for $100 in the Amazon Spring Sale

[ad_1]

Today marks the end of the Amazon Big Spring Sale and there are still a few tech deals still worth checking out, including this bundle of an Echo Show 8 paired with an Amazon Basics smart bulb. If you bought them at full price and separately, you’d pay $163, but now the set is down to $100. That amounts to a 38 percent discount. If you want the smart display on its own, it’s the same $100. That’s about $10 more than its record low price and a 33 percent savings.

Amazon

The Amazon Big Spring Sale is taking 38 percent off the latest Echo Show 8 smart display and throwing in a free Amazon smart bulb.

$100 at Amazon

If you’re just starting on the path towards smart home grandeur, you can think of the set as a starter kit, as the Echo Show gives you voice and routine control over your new bulb. We named the previous generation of the Echo Show 8 the best Amazon display in our guide. It strikes a good balance between not taking up too much space and offering a sizable enough viewing area with its 8-inch screen. We also liked how adept it is at handling video calls.

We were able to get a look at this latest version of the display at a demo during Amazon’s hardware event last fall. It has a new edge-to-edge glass front and a more refined design overall. But perhaps the most interesting update is the introduction of the adaptive content feature. Depending on where you are in the room, the display will show different content: large-font time and weather info when you’re far away, and more personalized calendar and news articles when you get closer.

The bulb lets you change its brightness and color just by talking to your smart display. You can also use the Alexa app to set up routines that will, for example, turn off the light when you say “goodnight” or turn it on an hour before sunset.
