[…] Ella literalmente me llamaba, hacía líneas conmigo y me daba su opinión. [before auditions] […]

Marvel has confirmed that it will make fewer movies and TV shows moving forward after a “rough” few years of theatrical flops and favoring quantity over quality.
Speaking to Empire Magazine, studio co-president Louis D’Esposito admitted that the Disney subsidiary had “learned its lesson” after it saturated the superhero genre market with projects that didn’t live up to fans’ lofty expectations. The comic book giant is now looking to reduce its output in theaters and on Disney Plus with the aim of regaining audiences’ trust after a period of diminishing box-office returns, poorly reviewed productions, and other criticisms.
With the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) riding the crest of a wave in the wake of the billion dollar-spinning flicks Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Marvel and Disney have leaned hard into churning out multiple movies and shows over the past few years, and some films, such as Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and TV shows like Loki and X-Men 97 have been met with critical acclaim.
Kevin Feige says he’s comfortable with the MCU “being the underdog [again]. I prefer being able to surprise & exceed expectations”“You’d have to live under a rock not to know that the last few Marvel movies have failed to ignite the world in the way that so many did,” adds… pic.twitter.com/Zh9RYoVyUjMay 7, 2024
However, for every successful project, Marvel has pumped out an unexpectedly high number of duds. Secret Invasion is viewed as the worst TV series that the studio has ever made, while highly anticipated films including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels earned mixed reviews from fans and critics. In the latter’s case, it holds the unwanted record of not only being the least profitable MCU movie of all time, but also the only one that made a significant monetary loss.
Asked about the troubles that Marvel has dealt with recently, D’Esposito admitted: “It’s been a rough time. If we just stayed on top, that would have been the worst thing that could have happened to us. We took a little hit [but] we’re coming back strong.
“Maybe when you do too much, you dilute yourself a little bit. We’re not going to do that anymore. We learned our lesson. [We’ll release] maybe two to three films a year and one or two shows, as opposed to doing four films and four shows.”
Putting words into action

D’Esposito’s comments about Marvel’s aim to rein in its output were echoed by Disney CEO Bob Iger during yesterday’s (May 8) Q2 2024 earnings call. Elaborating on Disney and Marvel’s commitment to do just that, Iger said: “I’ve been working hard with the studio [Disney} to reduce output and focus more on quality [and] that’s particularly true with Marvel.

“We’re slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four, and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two, or at the maximum three. And we’re working hard on what that path is, we’ve got a couple of good films in 2025 and then we’re heading to more Avengers, which we’re extremely excited about.”
The problem that Marvel has, however, is that it’ll be some time before it can start turning those words into meaningful action. It already has a whole host of Marvel Phase 5 and Marvel Phase 6 projects in the works, and if these are to see the light of day (i.e., if none of them are unceremoniously canceled), it’ll need to continue releasing three movies and three to four TV shows per year in order to get them out of the door.
Those strikes have had a knock-on effect, with Marvel now likely to release four films next year. Three have been confirmed to land in theaters – Captain America: New World Order, Thunderbolts, and The Fantastic Four– but, with Blade also potentially entering production this year ahead of a late-2025 launch, Marvel may have to go back on its word as early as next year if it wants to deliver those movies to audiences and boost its revenue streams after a lackluster 2023.

That’s all before you take its TV output into account, too. Marvel has debuted two new shows on Disney Plus, aka one of the world’s best streaming services, this year in Echo and X-Men 97. Per it Q2 2024 earnings presentation, three more – live-action series Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, plus animated shows in Eyes of Wakanda and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man – are also coming in 2024. Heading into 2025, Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart, and Marvel Zombies will likely launch on the service. That’s not taking Wonder Man, which is in development but hasn’t actually been announced by Marvel at any point, into account, either, nor the already greenlit X-Men 97 season 2 and What If…? season 3.
Add in other projects in early development – Avengers 5 and Avengers 6 – plus rumors surrounding Shang-Chi 2, Thor 5, Doctor Strange 3, Black Panther 3, and the X-Men‘s live-action arrival, and you can start to see Marvel’s problem. It can’t expect to develop all of these films, or other projects starring new and returning characters, without breaking its obligation to lessen its output. Something’s got to give and, right now, I’m not sure if it’ll be Marvel’s verbal commitment to actually reduce the number of films and shows it makes, or its decision to walk back on its revived ‘quality over quantity’ approach.
Marvel has all but confirmed that Galactus will be the primary villain of its forthcoming Fantastic Four movie.
Today (April 4), the comic book giant ostensibly revealed that the planet-devouring deity would be the big bad of The Fantastic 4, which is set to launch in theaters in July 2025. The apparent announcement was surprisingly shadow-dropped on Marvel’s social media channels, where the Disney subsidiary revealed a brand-new poster depicting Johnny Storm/The Human Torch to celebrate 4-4 Day, aka April 4.

Okay, so how does this promotional art confirm that Galactus will feature in Marvel’s Fantastic Four reboot? It doesn’t, but the accompanying link to a page titled ‘Future Foundation’ does. Clicking on said link is supposed to take you to a Fantastic Four movie-based page but, at the time of writing at least, viewers have been greeted with a 404 page. However, if you click on the image of the supergroup’s helpful android Herbie, you’ll be redirected to the ‘Future Foundation’ page.
There, fans are welcomed as ‘delegates’ to the aforementioned webpage, which shows five key Fantastic Four-starring comic book issues that appear to be the biggest influences on the team’s Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut. Clicking on each comic book cover opens a new page where you can read said issues for free via Marvel Unlimited.
But I digress. The five issues in question – Fantastic Four #1 and #48 through #50 (all released in 1961) and Fantastic Four: Life Story #1 (published in May 2021) – suggest they’ll not only serve as the introductory inspiration to the group’s MCU arrival, but also that Galactus will by the film’s primary antagonist. Indeed, Fantastic Four issues #48 to #50 make up a three-part arc where Galactus arrives with the aim of consuming Earth to sustain his life force. Standing in his way are the Fantastic Four, who – spoilers – locate a supremely powerful weapon that scares off Galactus and keeps Earth safe from harm.

Galactus’ positioning as The Fantastic 4‘s villain-in-chief isn’t a complete surprise. Yesterday (April 3), Deadline reported that a gender-swapped version of The Silver Surfer – one of Galactus’ so-called Heralds (his servants, essentially) – will play a prominent role in the Marvel Phase 5 flick.
Julia Garner, who some readers might know as Ruth Langmore from Netflix‘s Ozark TV show, will portray the character. They’ll reportedly go by the name Shalla-Bal, an existing Marvel character with ties to the Silver Surfer in the comics. It seems, though, that Marvel will retool Shalla Bal as a multiversal iteration of Silver Surfer for the forthcoming movie. If this proves to be the case, it’ll be further proof that The Fantastic 4 is an MCU film that’s largely set in an alternate dimension – a storytelling device that fits into Marvel’s wider multiverse-centric plan for Phases 4 through 6.

More evidence for this fan theory can be found in Marvel’s tease concerning the influence that Fantastic Four: Life Story will have on the movie’s plot. Indeed, #1 of this multi-comic story is set in the 1960s, which was already teased in The Fantastic 4‘s first MCU poster in mid-February. Considering the iconic quartet have been conspicuous by their absence in the MCU so far – there’s been no mention of them up to this point in any Marvel project – it would make sense that they exist in another universe. My guess? The group’s reality might be destroyed by Galactus and they’ll seek refuge in the MCU, aka on Earth-616, save this world from Galactus (who might follow them through whatever dimensional portal they use to escape), and decide to stay in this realm.
With production finally ramping up on The Fantastic 4 after years of intense rumors, it’s high time we learned more details – concrete or otherwise – about one of the most anticipated Marvel movies in years. Indeed, with Marvel finally confirming its Fantastic Four cast, release date, and new title (also in mid-February), as well as teasing what’ll inspire the superhero film, fans of the beloved superteam are certainly eating well.
It’ll be over a year before The Fantastic 4 is with us. In the meantime, you can watch the group’s other big-screen adventures on Disney Plus.
Marvel Games and NetEase just announced a new Overwatch-like team shooter called Marvel Rivals. As the name suggests, playable characters will be pulled from throughout the Marvel Multiverse, including members of the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy and the X-Men.
Marvel Rivals is a third-person 6v6 team-based shooter. It’ll be free to play and it’s set inside of a “continually evolving universe.” In other words, expect plenty of seasonal updates that introduce new heroes, villains, maps and challenges.
As for those heroes and villains, the developers promise a “vast array” of characters to choose from, but that roster will be limited to about a dozen upon the alpha launch in May. Early testers will be able to play as Spider-Man, Black Panther, Magneto, Magik and eight or nine more unannounced characters. The developers did mention that Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Hulk and Iron Man would be playable, but didn’t confirm that they’ll be available with the alpha. Screenshots show Dr. Strange, Storm and Scarlet Witch, among other heroes. It looks like the creators have access to the entire Marvel roster. That’s quite literally more than 80,000 potential playable characters.
Team-based shooters live or die by their maps. The devs didn’t say how many maps would be available when the alpha build hits, but did tease Asgard and Tokyo of 2099. NetEase also suggested that these environments will be destructible, with certain heroes being able to “reshape the terrain” with their powers.
Marvel Games
The story involves various Doctor Dooms, multiple timelines and colliding universes. It’s the usual cosmic Marvel tomfoolery. At any rate, it’s likely to be better than the Secret Invasion TV show. Again, the alpha will be available in May for PC players. There’s no word on a console release.
This isn’t the only big Marvel game announced this week. Former Naughty Dog and Visceral Games writer and creative director Amy Hennig is working on a story-driven action game calledMarvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. You’ll be able to play that next year.
