Razer Kishi Ultra review: the best mobile controller on the market

[ad_1]

One-minute review

The Razer Kishi Ultra is quite simply the best mobile controller on the market. It offers an unparalleled portable gaming experience thanks to its supremely comfortable full-size grips, smooth thumbsticks and Hall effect triggers, gorgeous mechanical buttons, and an abundance of high-end features like customizable RGB lighting and punchy haptics.

When paired with an iPad Mini or compatible big-screen mobile phone, the Razer Kishi Ultra can give many of the best handheld consoles a serious run for their money. It’s absolutely perfect for all kinds of native mobile titles from retro favorites like Sonic the Hedgehog to recent hits such as Honkai: Star Rail and Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile. It also works well with a range of game streaming services, not to mention a selection of console emulators, making it easier than ever to enjoy your favorite games on the go.

Its excellent companion app even offers a handy virtual controller mode that ensures compatibility with software that doesn’t otherwise offer dedicated mobile controller support – an excellent inclusion that adds even more value to the overall package. The Razer Kishi Ultra might be expensive compared to much of the competition, but it’s well worth splashing out on if you won’t settle for anything but the best.

Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) has reached another market

[ad_1]

Last updated: May 3rd, 2024 at 14:37 UTC+02:00

Samsung’s unexpected Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2024 refresh is slowly reaching more markets. The company has just launched the tablet in Malaysia, and it is now available for just over $315.

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) was announced in March, but global availability varies by market. In Malaysia, the tablet is available with 128GB of storage and costs RM1,499.

In case you missed the news back in March, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) is a refresh of a 2020 tablet. Samsung refreshed it first in 2022, and this year, it did it again.

The latest model is virtually identical to the previous ones, except that it ships with newer One UI 6.1 firmware and is powered by a more up-to-date Exynos 1280 SoC.

The old and refreshed components are wrapped in the same lightweight and slim durable metal unibody, and the 10.4-inch TFT LCD is surrounded by uniform bezels all around.

S Pen productivity on a budget

One of the main attractions of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) is that it offers access to DeX (on-device) and the S Pen for a relatively low price.

Samsung DeX can turn the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite into a lightweight productivity machine, especially when paired with a keyboard. And One UI features such as Multi Window and Pop-Up View elevate the tablet’s productivity potential even higher.

The S Pen is included in the box, which is good news for users who want to leverage the Notes app’s handwriting capabilities or sketch and join drawing contests in apps like PENUP.

Thanks to the Exynos 1280 chip, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) can also do some light gaming, but nothing too demanding. It’s a decent budget tablet with DeX and productivity tools.

In Malaysia, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite comes with 128GB of storage and 4GB of RAM, and it’s available in two color options: Mint and Gray. A more powerful option with an S Pen and on-device DeX would be the Galaxy Tab S9 FE, but it has a higher price. The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) is a more budget-oriented tablet with some features that punch above its weight class.

Wear OS smartwatch market share to grow in 2024, thanks to Samsung

[ad_1]

There’s some good news for Samsung and the Wear OS segment overall. A new report indicates that sales of Wear OS-based smartwatches will improve considerably this year. This will come at the expense of Apple’s WatchOS, which is quite interesting.

Wear OS smartwatches sales to increase in 2024

According to a new report from Counterpoint Research, Wear OS’s market share will increase by 6 percentage points to 27% in 2024. Last year, Wear OS’s market share was 21%, while watchOS’s was 53%. This year, Wear OS seems to be attracting more users as more Android users find premium smartwatch experiences.

Wear OS Smartwatch Market Share 2023 2024 Counterpoint Research

Wear OS sales are estimated to improve by 37% compared to 2023, which is a great sign for the whole Wear OS market. After years of bad performance and glitchy software, Fossil was forced to leave the Wear OS (and the whole smartwatch) market. Samsung worked with Google to launch Wear OS 3, which brought new life to the operating system and gave it the much-needed stability and marketing. Google has also been actively adding more features to Wear OS and managing to bring more apps.

Google also launched its own smartwatch, the Pixel Watch. Recently, OnePlus, OPPO, and Xiaomi started making smartwatches based on the Wear OS platform. They, along with Samsung, will help grow the Wear OS market. This could help improve the overall experience for Android users and the quality of the Android ecosystem. However, wear OS still needs some improvements, especially in terms of battery life and integration with Android smartphones, Google TV devices, and wireless earbuds.

Anshika Jain, Senior Research Analyst at Counterpoint Research, said, “Just as in the case of smartphones, where there is a shift toward premium devices in consumer buying patterns, we are witnessing that first-time smartwatch users or upgraders in the Android camp are now looking for a much better user experience and are willing to spend more when going for their next purchase. Due to this, we expect greater adoption of Google’s Android Wear (Wear OS) since these devices provide a robust third-party app experience, Google AI assistant, and precise health tracking, customization, and battery optimization.

Apple to Use ‘Best OLED Panels on the Market’ for Upcoming iPad Pro

[ad_1]

Apple’s upcoming iPad Pro models will feature “by far the best OLED tablet panels on the market,” according to Display Supply Chain Consultants. Set to be announced on May 7, the OLED iPad Pro models will feature LTPO (a more power efficient form of OLED), a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate, and a tandem stack and glass thinning that will bring “ultra-thin and light displays” that support high brightness, extended battery life, and a long lifetime.

iPad Pro OLED Feature 2
As has been previously rumored, today’s report suggests that the ‌iPad Pro‌ models will be available in 12.9-inch and 11.1-inch sizes, with both options to feature slimmed down bezels and a much thinner design. The 12.9-inch version, for example, will be over 1mm thinner than the current model.

There is a possibility that the 11.1-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ will be in short supply at launch because Apple has been dealing with light leakage issues that are not impacting the 12.9-inch model.

Along with the best OLED display on the market, the ‌iPad Pro‌ models could get Apple’s next-generation AI-optimized M4 chip, and they are expected to ship alongside a new Apple Pencil and an updated version of the Magic Keyboard. Apple will also introduce new 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch LCD iPad Air models.

Apple plans to unveil the updated iPads on Tuesday, May 7 at 7:00 a.m. Pacific Time.

Apple Sinks From First to Fifth Place in Chinese Smartphone Market

[ad_1]

Analytics company Canalys has released its latest report on China’s smartphone market for the first quarter of 2024, and Apple has come off worst among the top five brands jostling for supremacy in Asia’s largest economy.

iphone 15 china
Huawei returned to the top spot after 13 quarters with a 17% market share. The local vendor shipped 11.7 million smartphones, thanks to its popular Mate and nova series, while OPPO rose to second place on strong performance of its Reno 11 series, shipping 10.9 million units. Conversely, HONOR, vivo, and Apple all slowed their sell-ins in the quarter, ranking third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.

HONOR shipped 10.6 million units with a 16% share, a year-on-year increase of 9%, while vivo shipped 10.3 million units with a 15% share, a year-on-year decrease of 9%. Apple declined the most among the top five, sinking to fifth from first place, with 10 million units and a 15% share, which is a year-on-year decrease of 25%.

Huawei’s performance is up 70% from a year earlier, when the company was still reorganizing its phone business following U.S. sanctions. Huawei’s 5G Mate 60 Pro uses a China-made 7-nanometer processor tailored for the local market, showcasing the kind of advanced semiconductor manufacturing capabilities that US sanctions were originally designed to prevent.

Huawei has since released its new Pure line of flagship smartphones, and has been busy developing its own operating system, HarmonyOS, since it could not use Google’s Android and Google Mobile Services. The continued expansion of the HarmonyOS ecosystem breaks the two-horse race of Android and iOS in Mainland China.

canalys china smartphone market q1 2024canalys china smartphone market q1 2024
The latest data is unlikely to make for pleasant reading for Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, following his trip to China for the inauguration of a major new store in Shanghai. During his visit, coming on the back of a strong Chinese fourth quarter, Cook announced the expansion of Apple’s R&D center in the city, highlighting China’s crucial role in the company’s strategy. Cook also attended the China Development Forum in Beijing, where he said the country was “critical” to Apple.

Apple is deepening its ties with China despite expanding production in Southeast Asia and India. Approximately 17% of Apple’s net sales from October to December were derived from the greater China region, making it the largest regional supplier in the company’s supply chain. But Apple is facing an uphill battle to reverse falling iPhone sales there, with a 24% year-on-year decline in 2023 projected to deepen through 2024.

Android Bosses iPhone in Smartphone Activation Market Share

[ad_1]

New iPhone activations are down to a low not seen in the U.S. smartphone market for the last six years, according to a new Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) report.

iphone 15 sizes
While CIRP notes that Apple’s installed smartphone base is higher than recorded activations, the figures show its share of new iPhone activations fell from 40% to 33% over the past year, suggesting a shift away from the higher market shares Apple enjoyed in previous years.

Historically, around the time when competitors like Blackberry and Windows phones were more prevalent, iPhone’s activation share hovered around one-third. This increased steadily until the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic when various factors contributed to a spike in activations. However, Apple’s iPhone share appears to have reverted to its long-term average, with two out of three new smartphone activations now from Android devices.

CIRP suggests the decline is due to the increased price of modern smartphones as well as better durability. While innovation has slowed, there has been a shift from two-year subsidized purchases to more transparent buying plans, which has prompted consumers to hold onto their devices for longer. This trend appears to impact iPhone sales more significantly than those of Android devices, suggesting Apple may need to adjust its strategy to regain market momentum.

The report covers a 12-month period ending each quarter and includes data from CIRP’s quarterly survey of mobile phone customers. The aim of this approach is to remove the seasonal spikes typically associated with new device launches and holiday sales, providing a clearer view of ongoing trends, according to the firm.

Apple Cuts Vision Pro Shipments as Demand Falls ‘Sharply Beyond Expectations’

Samsung grew its smartphone market share in India, ranked first in Q1 2024

[ad_1]

Despite challenging market conditions globally, Samsung has been quite resilient in India over the past year. While Apple stole Samsung’s crown in 2023 worldwide, it isn’t even close in the Indian market. In Q1 2024, Samsung was India’s biggest smartphone manufacturer, and it achieved growth compared to Q1 2023.

Samsung performed well in the Indian smartphone market during Q1 2024

According to the latest figures released by market research firm Canalys, Samsung was India’s biggest smartphone brand with a 19% market share. The South Korean firm shipped 6.7 million smartphones during the quarter, a 6% growth compared to Q1 2023. Canalys said that Samsung’s strong performance came from stronger sales of the Galaxy S24 than its predecessor, thanks to attractive pre-booking offers, Samsung Finance+, and AI features.

Samsung Smartphone Market Share India Q1 2024 Canalys

Xiaomi ranked second in the market during Q1 2024, shipping 6.4 million smartphones and capturing an 18% market share. Samsung needs to be wary of Xiaomi, as there is just one percentage point difference between the two. Xiaomi’s impressive 29% annual growth came on the back of great sales of affordable phones like the Redmi 13C 5G, Redmi Note 13 5G, and the POCO X6.

Vivo ranked third with 6.2 million smartphone shipments and 18% market share. That’s a 14% rise compared to sales from Q1 2023. OPPO was the only brand among the top five OEMs with declining sales. It shipped 3.7 million smartphones, a 4% drop compared to sales from Q1 2023.

Realme shipped 3.4 million smartphones, 17% higher than last year’s performance. It ranked fifth in the Indian smartphone market during Q1 2024. Overall, over 35.3 million smartphones were shipped in India in Q1 2023. That’s 15% higher than smartphone sales in the country during the first quarter of last year.
