HMD steps out of Nokia’s shadow and launches its own mid-range smartphone line

[ad_1]

HMD is breaking into new territory by launching its first smartphone line under an original name. It’ll no longer be known as just a manufacturer of Nokia phones. In total, there are three mid-range devices in the series: the HMD Pulse, Pulse Plus, and Pulse Pro. The third model is meant to be the leader of the pack, although if you look at their respective specifications, you’ll notice they are all very similar to one another with a few differences.

The HMD Pulse Pro houses a Unisoc T606 processor running on a 5,000mAh battery capable of lasting up to 59 hours on a single charge. Buyers can equip the phone with up to 8GB of RAM. Storage capacity peaks at 128Gb although you can expand it up to 256GB with an SD card. On the front, you have a 6.65-inch HD Plus touchscreen with an image resolution of 1,612 x 720 pixels. Up top is a 50 MP selfie camera supported by multiple features. Gesture Navigation, for example, lets you use hand gestures like a finger heart or a thumbs up to instruct the selfie lens to take a photo. And pictures taken at night are, the company claims, “clear as day” thanks to AI Super Portrait boosting the luminosity.

Around the back is a two-camera setup consisting of another 50MP lens and a 2MP depth option. They too have their own set of supporting features. Skin tone optimization ensures people of different skin complexions look good in photographs no matter what. You also have Flash Shot for taking multiple pictures in quick succession.

Performance gap

When it comes to the other two models, they have nearly identical configurations. The same chipset, the same battery, the same display, and so on. Differences among the trio are centered around their camera system. HMD states the Pulse Plus has a 50MP rear camera (even though you see two lenses) and an 8MP selfie. The standard Pulse phone bumps the rear lens down to just 13MP. Some of the Pulse Pro’s image-enhancing software is found on the pair, like the skin tone optimization, but the hand gestures aren’t.

It’s also important to mention that all three are repairable. HMD is partnering up with iFixit in providing spare parts. Users will be able to replace cracked screens, bent charging ports, or a completely dead battery. No word on when the repair kits and parts will launch. They’re not available on iFixit’s website at the time of this writing.

Availability

The standard Pulse phone is available for purchase in the UK for £99.99 on HMD’s website in Meteor Black. The Dreamy Pink variant is out of stock at the moment. Both the Pulse Plus and Pulse Pro will roll out in the United Kingdom soon, however an exact date was not given.

There are plans to launch an independent phone in the United States known as the HMD Vibe. It’ll be similar to the others in that it’ll have a two-day battery life, 4GB of memory, and a dual camera setup. However, the Vibe will house a Snapdragon chipset rather than the Unisoc processor.

Samsung finally launches its new 50W USB PD dual-port charger

[ad_1]

Samsung has never been a proponent of extremely fast smartphone charging speeds. The fastest charging speed on its phones and tablets is 45W, and even that speed is only used until the device reaches 50% battery. Samsung now has a charger that offers up to 50W charging speed.

Samsung 50W Super Fast Charging Adapter pricing

The company has launched the 50W Super Fast Charging Adapter (model number EP-T5020) in some European countries. It is priced at €69.90, as spotted by Roland Quandt. It has two fast-charging USB Type-C ports. The top port can offer up to 50W fast charging speed when only one device is charged.

Samsung 50W USB PD Charger Dual Port

Both USB Type-C ports can offer up to 25W charging speeds when two devices are connected to the charger simultaneously. So, you can charge to Galaxy smartphones at 25W. You can get up to 50W charging speed when using a Galaxy Book laptop. This charger supports the USD PD PPS protocol.

This new dual-port USB Type-C charger from Samsung hasn’t been launched in many other countries, and we hope it comes to other countries soon. Samsung sells an even more powerful charger, the 65W triple-port EP-T6530, but it is aimed at Galaxy Book laptops.

Mophie Launches Juice Pack Battery Cases for iPhone 15 Lineup

[ad_1]

Mophie today announced the launch of Juice Pack battery cases that are designed to work with the iPhone 15 lineup. Like Mophie’s prior Juice Pack cases, the latest version attaches to the iPhone to provide a little extra battery life during daily use.

mophie juice pack
The case comes apart in two pieces so that the ‌iPhone‌ can fit inside, and as the ‌iPhone 15‌ models have USB-C ports, there is a USB-C charger inside that fits right in to the port. The case also has a USB-C port that can be used for charging the case and the ‌iPhone‌ inside.

Priority goes to the ‌iPhone‌ when charging, so if it’s plugged in, it’ll charge up first, and then the case itself will also charge. It’s a super simple solution for adding extra battery life to your phone on a long day.

The Juice Pack for the iPhone 15 Pro Max that we tested ahead of launch has a 3,000mAh battery, so it’s not able to charge an ‌iPhone‌ to full, but it is about an extra half charge. The 15 and 15 Pro Juice Pack models have a 2,400mAh battery inside because they’re smaller, but that also delivers about the same 50 percent battery charge. In my testing, I was able to get about an additional 45 percent battery out of the case once I had drained my ‌iPhone‌ battery, so Mophie’s estimate seems about right.

Mophie’s Juice Pack case is made from a soft-touch material that’s pleasant in the hand and it only comes in black. It offers a protective lip around the ‌iPhone‌’s display and camera, and covers all of the buttons and ports for additional protection. There’s a bump at the back for the battery, and while the case remains on the slimmer side is not too bulky, it does add some extra weight.

The case is meant to provide protection from a drop of up to six feet, and it feels rugged enough to be able to handle that kind of impact without damage to the ‌iPhone‌. Mophie says that the extra battery life provides up to 44 hours of talk time and music playback, or up to 11 hours of video playback.

There’s a button on the back to turn the Juice Pack on and off and to check charge level with the four LEDs. It’s handy to be able to turn it off to control when you want to use up the extra battery life rather than having it charge automatically, but note that you do need to hold it down for a few seconds to get charging to initiate. Mophie has Juice Pack cases for the ‌iPhone 15‌, ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌, and ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ Max, but there is not a model for the ‌iPhone 15‌ Plus.

The Mophie Juice Pack can be purchased for $99.95 starting today.

Nomad Launches Glow 2.0 Apple Watch Sport Band and iPhone Case

[ad_1]

Popular accessory maker Nomad today announced the launch a second-generation glow in the dark band designed for the Apple Watch, with the new version featuring a much more pronounced glow than before.

nomad glow 1
Nomad says that its Glow 2.0 Sport Band is three times brighter than the prior-generation version, and it did indeed have a strong and long lasting glow in our testing. In the light, the band is a soft green color, but in the dark, it shifts to a bright, neon green color. Nomad said that it experimented with more than two dozen variations to get the color and glow of the band correct.

To go along with the Glow 2.0 Sport Band, Nomad is also introducing a Glow Sport Case, which is its first glow in the dark iPhone case option. It has the same light green color in the light, and it too turns a neon green to match the band. It is worth noting that glow in the dark products need light exposure, so the intensity and length of the glow depend on the light exposure the watch and case receive during the day.

The Glow 2.0 Sport Band is made from the same FKM fluoroelastomer rubber as Nomad’s other Sport Bands, so if you’ve tried one of those, this is the same general feel. It’s thicker and more rigid than Apple’s sport band, and the lack of flex makes it a little less comfortable, but it is still overall easy to wear. It is waterproof and sweatproof, so it is ideal for swimming and other activities that involve water. There are holes in the band to keep it from getting too sweaty underneath during heavy activity.

nomad glow 2nomad glow 2
The case is a variation of Nomad’s Sport Case, and it is available for the iPhone 15 Pro models. The case itself is glossy, but there is adequate grip that keeps it from being easily dropped, and there is a rubber bumper around the sides and the camera. Buttons are made from aluminum and are easy to press, and it does include support for MagSafe so it works with ‌MagSafe‌ accessories.

Nomad says that its Sport Cases are designed to provide 8-foot drop protection, and the rubber bumper does provide quite a bit of extra cushioning to the area around the display. The case is not as thin as Apple’s silicone case, but it does seem to offer good protection, and the glow in the dark feature is fun at night. During the day, the case is a pleasant light green.

The Glow 2.0 Sport Band is priced at $60, while the Glow Sport Case is priced at $50. Both products can be purchased from the Nomad website starting today.
