Honor Café opened in July 2020 as a place for veterans, and the walls of the restaurant are lined with many unique military memorabilia donated by patrons and patrons of the restaurant.

at YourConroeNews.com. Conroe plays a teenager in the third season of Ghostwriter.

The Texas Wish List is a weekly television show hosted by Shane McAuliffe and produced by McAuliffe Productions in College Station. McAuliffe travels the state visiting Lone Star State restaurants, historic sites and popular attractions.

The Honor Café episode will air on KPRC 2 on November 12 at 5:30 p.m. Following the broadcast, this segment will be available on The Texas Bucket List YouTube channel.

The tribute is Conroy's third appearance, following God's Garage in April 2021 and June 2021, and McAuliffe interviews Jimmy C. Edwards III, chairman of the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Commission, for a segment on the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial. . Park released in November.

When McAuliffe interviewed Edwards, he was already planning to return to Conroe to participate in the 2022 Veterans Day episode of the Honor Cafe series.

McAuliffe taped an interview with Chris Sadler at a restaurant on October 11.

He also interviewed retired USMC Lt. Gen. Stephen Hammer and US Navy veteran Ed Kelly.

Sadler, who grew up in Deer Park, has military and law enforcement in her family. After seven years in the Marine Corps with tours in Liberia, Haiti and Bosnia, Sadler joined law enforcement in Pasadena and later opened several businesses in Montgomery County.

Now, Sadler and his family, including his brother Josh, mother Paula and stepfather Dan, bring the camaraderie of eating together to Honor Cafe.

The menu features Latin-inspired American comfort food. Oscar Sandoval, a native of Houston's Xochi restaurant, is the executive chef.

As the restaurant prepares to open, Sadler suggested customers bring photos or memorabilia of their favorite soldiers to hang on the restaurant's walls. Now the place is filled from floor to ceiling with military memorabilia.

"I think a lot of people find peace here. It's not just great food, it's so much more," he said. Organically, it has become a meeting place for various organizations.

The restaurant hosts nonprofit organizations that support veterans, such as Spring Creek Blue Star Mothers and Combined Arms Operation Brown Bag, among others.

Heather Herlong, president of Spring Creek Blue Star Mothers, is also a US Army veteran and spends a lot of time at the Honor Cafe.

“Whether you're having a bad day as a veteran or a great day and want to celebrate, it's a place where people are there to hug you. They want to celebrate with you, they want to cry with you, and there are few places like that," said Herlong.

His brother, a veteran, also died during the epidemic, and the family was unable to serve him.

Instead, their whole family came to "Novor" cafe and hung their pictures on the wall.

"When we couldn't have the funeral, we were able to close it," he said. Now, when he comes to Cafe Honor, he tells people that he will have lunch with his brother. "It moves from a sense of mourning to a place of remembering and celebrating life, not just grieving."

As an added bonus, he said the food was off the charts.

The show will feature two of Honor Café's main menu items, Honor Burger and Shrimp and Grits.

Sadler ate roasted grain grown in Pasadena.

"It took me about six years to realize that you can't eat whole grains the first day, so you can eat fried leftovers the next day," she said.

Honor Café makes polenta with cheese and herbs and grills it in triangles. Grilled shrimp and fried polenta are combined with lemon, butter cream and Bach sauce.

on YourConroeNews. Conroe is accepting $210,000 in grants for creative teams

The Honor Burger is a three-meat patty: brisket, ribs and sirloin. The patty is served on a brioche bun with avocado and garlic aioli, chili cheese, caramelized onions on top and pickled onions on the bottom.

Sadler is grateful for the support the Honor Café has received from the community and the national television attention it has received over the past two years.

"We're still struggling (after the outbreak). Making sure more people know who we are and where we are is very important to us," Sadler said.

Captain Grant’s Inn In Preston Featured In Netflix Show On Haunted Sites

Captain Grant's Inn In Preston Featured In Netflix Show On Haunted Sites

October 16 – Preston – As the owner of what has been called one of America's most haunted places, Carol Matsumoto has long turned down a ghost hunter's request to conduct a paranormal investigation at the Captain Grant Inn on Route 2A in Poketanuck.

But April 2021, presented by MAK Pictures in Los Angeles, was different. The crew occupied the entire seven-bedroom residence for 28 days in July and August 2021 with no one allowed — the owners, staff and other guests. And Matsumoto couldn't tell anyone about it.

Matsumoto recently received an email from the executive producer of Netflix's 28 Day Haunted show, giving the green light to friends, neighbors, guests and the media to let 1754 Captain Grant's Inn be one of the top three favorites. Damn hotel. Buildings across America will be featured in the Netflix show, Haunted in 28 Days, which airs on October 21. The other two buildings are in Denver, Colorado and Madison, North Carolina.

The 87-second trailer gives a glimpse of the trio's past in three locations, with the speeding Ghostbusters running up the stairs, shouting, "I saw the whole shadow!" They are shouting things like and "What is it?" And "I saw something come into our room. It flew over here." In a few voices.

All six episodes will be available starting Friday, and each will include clips from all three locations, according to MAK Pictures founder and president Mark Kadin.

This theory comes from a theory proposed by Connecticut paranormal researchers Ed and Lorraine Warren. They suggest that the veil between the physical and spiritual realms weakens 28 days after its opening. So the team spent 28 days in each location, cut off from the outside world without internet and without knowing their destination in advance, Kadin said.

"At MAK Pictures, we're always up for a challenge," said a statement on the company's website. "That's why we go to the ends of the earth to find the most interesting characters and bring back their untold and unforgettable stories. Regardless of location, genre or topic, it's our passion to take audiences to new worlds and why we love what we do. We do."

Matsumoto watched the trailer for 28 Days hacked and identified several Captain Grant clips, including the extensive main stages. Adelaide's room on the second floor is the busiest room in the house, Matsumoto said, especially the bathroom on the side of the room. Another shot shows the guest houses.

Matsumoto keeps notebooks in all rooms for guests to write down their experiences. On one of the pages of Adelaide's class notebook, draw a sketch of a strange female face. On the page, one guest wrote that he felt a "light touch," while another said he caught a glimpse of a woman in her fifties with light brown hair in the kitchen.

Captain Grant's Inn has been on television many times. The "press" page on Hostel's website now lists the upcoming "28 Days of Repression" series at the top, followed by a list of previous TV, newspaper and magazine articles, including "Psychic Kids" at the top. In the year 2010 and Portals to Hell by Jack Osborne in 2020 before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Matsumoto said he knew nothing about ghosts when he bought the dilapidated historic farmhouse in February 1994. The major renovation took more than a year before the first guest rooms opened on Memorial Day weekend in 1995.

In 1999, a New York City detective said she and her husband, Ted, were the most polite housekeepers she'd ever seen, unable to ignore guests' comments and unexplained voices, nighttime noises, sights and experiences. Along with the constant yelling and screaming in the attic above the room. Carol shows Matsumoto that the attic is stacked with wood for further renovations and that no one can step on it or step on it.

In the year In 2017, Matsumoto wrote The Ghost of Captain Grant's Inn, published by Llewellyn Publications. The book recounts his experiences leading up to buying the house through random events that — miraculously — helped him through the process.

Matsumoto became interested in the 19th-century ghost of Captain Grant Inn, named after her husband, a sea captain who died off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, and his pregnant wife, Mercy Adelaide, who had two together. Children.

Although Mercy died in the 19th century, Matsumoto “continued to live in the house like one of his sons,” Matsumoto writes in his book. He said he was waiting for the centurion to return.

One day a paranormal investigator came to the lodge with L-staves, two L-shaped copper rods with short L-legs mounted in a copper tube, allowing the rods to rotate freely, while one held the short legs, the clamps serving as a kind. Container.

Matsumoto remembers when he first picked up the stick, "it spun like a helicopter blade," and dropped it on the table. He refused to try again, but eventually got used to using the cane and Grant's ghosts. Especially Deborah.

Not a member of the Grant family, Deborah died in the 17th century at the age of 5. He did not live in the house but was buried in an old cemetery next to the property. On Thursday, Matsumoto picked up a stick and asked if Deborah was there. The trunk is divided by 180 degrees. It means yes, Matsumoto said. Deborah asks if she likes the doll tea set in the dining room. He splits the sticks to say "yes".

In his book, Matsumoto tells the sad story of the tea set. A woman called the hostel to book a stay. When the lady arrived, she brought a doll tea set. Matsumoto apologized, saying it was nothing new. He stopped at an antique shop on the road and bought it.

Matsumoto was surprised. The woman asked about the tea set when her little girl, Deborah, called her with her.

And over the years, Matsumoto says, Deborah "played" with the tea set, moving it here and there.

The book is out of print, but Matsumoto said he plans to contact a Minnesota publisher to get a second edition. He hopes the 28 Days Haunted will bring more business to the shelter during the low season. She says she doesn't have to worry about October, especially around Halloween. She is already decorating for the upcoming holiday. Halloween night has been sold out since March.

The neatly folded t-shirt is printed with the words "I Survived a Night by Captain Grant."

Houston Church Revived As Affordable Option For Rentals, To Be Featured On Eastwood Home Tour

Houston Church Revived As Affordable Option For Rentals, To Be Featured On Eastwood Home Tour

Tim Cisneros' phone rings; It was a real estate agent friend who asked for help with a building that was almost impossible to sell.

It was the Church of the Savior in the East End, a bare reinforced concrete structure in need of big ideas. It had no windows, little parking, and was riddled with break-ins.

Cisneros, principal of Cisneros Design Studio Architects, had previously collaborated with developer Mir Azizi of Caspian Enterprises on a project to convert the former Waddell Furniture warehouse into what are now Sampson Lofts apartments, and quickly realized that the building it had potential. But first he has to get a rabbit out of the hat, dodging the city's demands and structural problems.

It is now known as Sanctuary, an affordable apartment community that opened in March. It was fully booked at the end of April. It is one of four properties on Eastwood's Historic Homes Tour 2022 this weekend.

Then there's Ironworks, a mixed-use development on the former Cameron Iron Works site in Milby, also two houses built in 1935, one on Dumble Street and one on Woodleigh Street. For the tour, the sanctuary will open four units: a choir, a gym, a row house and another unit in the school building.

The current sanctuary began life in 1919 as Eastwood Community Church, intended to be the spiritual heart of Eastwood, a neighborhood developed by William Wilson, who had founded Woodland Heights a decade earlier. To date, Eastwood boasts the most intact collection of crafts, arts and crafts, Foursquare and Mission-style architecture in the city.

The late Tom Tellepsen was a member of the church and his Tellepsen Construction, a still major contractor in Houston today, built a series of three church-owned structures built in 1919, 1930, and 1951.

The church and its members have endured two world wars, the Great Depression, and the Korean and Vietnam wars. In the 1960s and 1970s, social unrest hit the congregation, which was later renamed Church of the Redeemer. They opened a café ministry that attracted college students and adopted an informal music-based worship style on Friday nights, keeping Sunday services more traditional. Young adults were placed in households where people lived as extended families and shared expenses, while conscientious objectors were forced to work in medical clinics.

Its pastor, the Reverend Graham Pulkingham, came to national attention as a pioneer of the church's charismatic movement, taking him on a tour and touring the UK to spread this new vision for the church. However, when he left, the remaining elders were unable to hold the church together and its membership began to decline.

More than a decade ago, with just 70 members and a long list of needed repairs, the Episcopal diocese closed it down and put the property up for sale. In 2017, Cisneros convinced Aziz to buy the church property to build rental housing in Eastwood. It was completed earlier this year, with 45 units ranging from 387 to 1,211 square feet and rents from $1,000 to $1,950.

“A project like this starts with a very adventurous client who has a vision. Dreamers and visionaries tackle projects like this,” said Cisneros. "It's a good example of how old, empty buildings can be converted into housing in the event of a housing shortage."

His problems were apparent from the start. A sanctuary with a sloping floor would have been perfect for a small concert hall, but even after demolishing a dilapidated sanctuary, there would still not be enough space to meet city code requirements for parking.

“A building like this can be many things, a café/concert venue like the Heights, but we have to have 75 percent neighborhood agreement and that can be difficult,” Cisneros said. "It could be a big library for the school next door, a daycare, any number of things, but they're limited by lack of parking or parking efficiency."

One way to counter this was to gain historic status for the structure by acknowledging the church's place in the centennial neighborhood. If they can convince planners and the historical commission, they can reduce parking requirements by 40 percent.

Cisneros said smaller units and lower rents will support changes in social lifestyles now: Renters are likely to be young professionals and college students who don't necessarily have cars, reducing the need for street parking. . They ride a bike, use the subway or use carpooling services.

Navigating city standards, Cisneros designs a variety of apartments in various buildings, from small studios to lofts and townhomes.

He said he learned a lot from the Sampson Lofts project, which provided insight into the needs of smaller apartments. Since Covid, he said, people are willing to live in smaller spaces to avoid not having roommates and being alone.

Since its inauguration, many people have stopped to take a look at the sanctuary, curious to see what their old church looks like now. Some of the church's artifacts have been appreciated elsewhere, as Aziz donated religious artwork, including his prized "Christ the Worker" mural by artist John William Orth, and other artwork for use in churches.

Featured Artist Celebrates Fall And Her Hometown Of Sterling

Featured Artist Celebrates Fall And Her Hometown Of Sterling

Here's Gnome Place Like Home, the latest artist from Sterling Creations. Deb Montgomery celebrates fall and her hometown of Sterling for her latest gallery show.

In her latest collection you'll find some autumn-themed leprechaun paintings on wood paneling, some pumpkins and her first attempts at making resin ornaments, as well as some pastel creations depicting her favorite places around Stirling. While some places, like the outdoor pool at the Logan County Sterling Recreation Center and Chamber of Commerce, are obvious, others show only glimpses of the site, leading people to wonder what could have been, especially the four pieces where Sterling stopped his activity in the past. . .

"I knew I wanted to do something with local institutions, and then I wanted to figure out how to bring fall to life, so I decided to do fall signs," Montgomery said.

He was inspired by Sterling's creations when he saw some of his creations labeled Colorado Made; He then created a small sterling stamp with the Logan County Courthouse, which Sterling describes as going so far as to create pastel drawings of various locations for co-ops to use in their artwork.

Montgomery decided to focus on pastels because it is currently her favorite medium. She appeared at this year's Logan County Fair and has returned to pastels after a hiatus.

“I really like them, it's so much fun to put them in black and you have to really think about painting what you normally do because normally you have white and you have to add black, but start with ombre. You need to increase your light. So it's an interesting dynamic," Montgomery said.

As for how he chose the locations to be included in the exhibit, Montgomery said the buildings were first and foremost important to his family. Baja tacos, for example, are a family staple, and her daughters still come from Denver to Sterling to enjoy the food.

“I always thought the Fox Theater building was really cool, especially on days when you go upstairs and you have a balcony, and then the Camera Building is cool because it's an old warehouse,” Montgomery said.

Take a closer look at Fox 5's movie schedule and you'll see that the theater is showing a number of old classics, including Star Wars, The Shining, Footloose, Dirty Dancing and The Goonies.

He also added a pastel painting of the Sterling Water Tower on Front Street, with the little train in the foreground, because it's kind of a symbol of Sterling.

"I started to get ideas about what might happen if I did something more abstract," Montgomery said, and then I created little pieces that represented that space.

When asked if there are any other locations he would like to use for his films, the artist replied that he started making collages with the old Great Western Sugar Beet Factory a few years ago and is trying to come to terms with it. . Show, but not finished.

“I still have it, maybe I'll do something with it again. Growing up, all my dad did was raise sugar bees, so that's a special memory for me, collecting sugar bees," Montgomery said.

You can meet the artist this Friday from 11:30 am to 6 pm at Sterling Creations' First Friday Open House, 129 N. Third St. There will be treats, door prizes and crafts.

Montgomery's work will be on display throughout October and visitors can come see it at any time. The opening hours of the gallery are from Tuesday to Saturday, from 11:30 am to 4:00 pm

Sterling Creations will also join the Logan County Arts League's Artsober celebration with Halloween Color Nights on October 8, 14, 15, 16 and 23, Pop-up Color Night on October 21 and 28 and Kids' Color on October 22 at 2 o'clock. pm Learn more about one of these events To find out, visit https://sterlingcreativesl.wixsite.com or like Sterling Creatives on Facebook.

And I said yes, and he said, "Do you want to tell me?" he said, and I said "definitely". Pope Francis Featured In New Climate Change Documentary

The film includes footage of the meeting with Pope Francis and unreleased footage of the inauguration of Pope Francis on March 19, 2013.

VATICAN – Pope Francis was the star of a documentary on climate change and the environment that was screened at the Vatican on Tuesday.

The Message , available to stream for free on YouTube Originals from October 4, follows a married climate activist, indigenous leader, climate refugee and marine biologist as they travel from around the world to the Vatican to speak with Pope Francis.

The film includes footage of the meeting with Pope Francis and unreleased footage of the inauguration of Pope Francis on March 19, 2013.

The title of this documentary was inspired by the word "papal" which is used for many papal letters and literally means "circular". The title refers to Pope Francis' 2015 encyclical Laudato si .

Cardinal Raniero Cantalamsa, a missionary to the papal family, also appears in the letter to talk about the Franciscan roots of Pope Francis' ecotours.

The film had its world premiere in the New Congregation Hall of the Vatican on October 4, the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi.

October 4 also marks the official accession of the Holy See to the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.

Cardinal Michael Czerny, Dean of the Office for the Promotion of Integrated Human Development, presented the film at a press conference on Tuesday. The Dicastery of Cardinal Czerny is a partner in the film, along with the Vatican Communications Office.

The film " Message " emphasizes the main idea of the dialogue, in his words, "Dialogue is the essence of the Holy Father's vision of the human world between the Creator and all creation and us as human beings."

Husung Lee, chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, told a press conference that the film was "a timely reminder of the urgency and importance of Laudato si."

“The scientific and religious communities are clear. The planet is in crisis and its life support systems are in danger. The stakes have never been higher and we must be the source of a solution to this crisis,” he added.

Writer/filmmaker Nicholas Brown said that the practice of documentaries is to "get out of our bubble and meet up on the planet. These moments are the most important, because it is their point of view that influences the most.”

The five main themes of the "Message" are depicted in front of the map of the Vatican. They went to Rome to meet with Pope Francis. Photo: Laudato Si.

Cardinal Czerny said: "Films and personal stories convincingly show that the ecological crisis has come and is happening now." “The time for speculation, skepticism, denial and irresponsible populism is over. Terrible floods, severe droughts, heat waves, tornadoes and catastrophic hurricanes have become the new normal in recent years; keep going today, tomorrow will be even worse.”

The cardinal said: In his letter " Laudato si ", Pope Francis said: "I want to have a dialogue with everyone about our common home." The film The Message provides a medium for such encounters and dialogues. This beautiful film, a heartbreaking yet hopeful story, resonates with people all over the world. From The Editors Show: Isiah Pacheco Should Be The Featured Running Back

On the latest episode of the Arrowhead Pride Editors' Show podcast, Pete Sweeney and John Dixon discuss the road after the Kansas City Chiefs' Week 4 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

(Listen to the podcast above or click here . Also available on Spotify .)

Isaiah Pacheco should be the starting quarterback

Pete : “Clyde Edwards-Heller is having a great year and is doing everything you ask…I think Isaiah Pacheco might be the best player on the team and I think he might have to touch the ball first. .. Hard to say and I'm trying to stick with Pacheco and CEH… Clyde is having a great year and I think he deserves to touch the ball. I think Isaiah Pacheco is the best in the north and south, he is a good ball carrier on the team… I wouldn't prefer Pacheco over CEH I think the roles could be reversed here.

It was a great victory.

John : Tampa Bay is a great football team. I don't care if their record is 2-1. The Chiefs were 2-1. It is necessary to take into account how many points the defense lost. The defense is supposed to have given up a lot of points in this game. Well, they gave it to Tom Brady! Looking at what happened in that game, it's important to know that Tampa Bay is a good football team… The Chiefs beat them in a game they didn't know how dominant they were.

Persistence in defense

Pete : "Despite Sunday's offense, it's the Chiefs' defense that makes me feel like they're legitimate Super Bowl contenders again for the fifth straight year. The defense is the most cohesive unit on the team. … They're down 31 points – but it's Tom Brady, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin … L. Jarius Snead mentioned Tom Brady thinking he was invisible … Think about their pressure, put those quarterbacks on me — and George Karlaftis . and Chris Jones continue dominate – and the guys still lack that defense… Mike Dana will be back, Trent McDuffie will be back and Willie Gay will be back three games later… When was the last time? Do you think the Chiefs defense had a chance to be in the league's top 5 units?

Return of Trent McDuffie

John : What will that defense look like if Trent McDuffie comes back? The other players are gone — and they're still without those players … We know that when the secondary gets better, the pass rush gets better. So getting McDuffie back there — shutting people down in the few moments he had — could take him to the next level.

It's encouraging to see how one of the world's most respected powers in conflict is bringing the interactivity of games like Fallujah to help our players understand the events that are shaping the world.

"Photographs, books, plays, films and TV programs tell compelling stories of the conflict," said Chris Cooper and Ian Kicucci, curators of the Imperial Museums' War Games exhibition. Video games continued this tradition into the 20th and 21st centuries and have become the largest and fastest growing entertainment industry today. We hope that this exhibition will encourage visitors to think about the impact of this medium on our understanding of war and conflict.

Six Days in Fallujah is coming to PC and consoles. It is developed by Highwire Games and does not have a release date yet. The five branches of the Imperial War Museum attract more than 2.5 million visitors a year.
