The MSI Claw has been in a world of trouble ever since its launch, with plenty of reviews and buyers both criticizing it for its inconsistent gaming performance, poor optimization, and more. But now it seems the handheld’s luck is finally looking up, thanks to a brand new update.
According to MSI, its latest GPU and BIOS driver updates — the E1T41IMS.106 BIOS (referred to as 106) and 31.0.101.5445 GPU driver (referred to as 5445) — have increased performance by up to 150%. The update also apparently smooths out performance issues, allowing players to “smoothly play the top 100 popular games on the Steam platform.”
MSI seems to be very aware of the optimization issues concerning the CPU, as it mentions working with Intel to stabilize the handheld better. The updates also let users update straight from the Windows environment without having to use a USB drive or dock the system.
You can download the latest BIOS from the MSI official website and the newest GPU drivers from the Intel ARC official website.
Is it too little too late?
While the new updates and continued support are admirable, users are finally getting them over a month after its official release. Meanwhile, other PC gaming portables like the Steam Deck and Lenovo Legion Go work right out of the box with solid and stable performance, especially the former which continues to be the gold standard.
Not to mention how expensive the MSI Claw is, which makes it more concerning that it launched in such a state and needs to be continuously patched and updated to even meet the standard of an older and less powerful portable like the Steam Deck.
At this point, though MSI and Intel are working together, we still don’t know whether it boils down to Intel’s processors or MSI-related issues, though the upcoming launch of the Intel-equipped AOKZOE A2 Ultra should give us a better sense of where the problem lies.

Hopefully, MSI learns from this and if it releases a Claw 2, it ensures that the OS and general performance are up to snuff before its launch.
Also new in Safari is the ability to separate the browser via profiles, meaning you can create one profile for work and another for your personal life. It splits your history, extensions, cookies, Tab Groups, and Favorites, and it’s easy to switch back and forth.
You can also now create web apps that allow you to turn your favorite websites into an app-like experience that you can place in the dock. Instead of opening a browser window, these web apps launch and act like traditional macOS apps when you click on them. You can get notifications from them, and even segment them in tools like Stage Manager.
Additionally, Apple is making it easy to share passwords with shared accounts. When you create a group, everyone is able to add and edit passwords and share them through iCloud Keychain (with end-to-end encryption).
More With Messages
Video: Apple
As with iOS 17, Apple brought a few new upgrades to the Messages app. Building on inline replies first introduced with iOS 14, you can swipe right to quickly reply to a specific message instead of having to long-press on it each time.
Improvements have been made to search within Messages. Whenever you search for something, results are now divided into categories like people, keywords, photos, and links, making them easier to find. There’s also a one-time passcode cleanup feature that automatically deletes one-time passcodes through AutoFill—which helps clean up your list of conversations. The company is also making a big push for Stickers. Any stickers you create with iOS or iPadOS (including Live Stickers made using Live Photos) are now accessible on your Mac too.
Game Mode

Gaming on an M-series Mac? You’ll appreciate the new Game Mode feature for graphically intensive titles. It ensures the Mac gives high priority to the CPU and GPU while you’re playing a game, delivering a smoother experience with consistent frame rates. It also lowers the audio latency when you’re using AirPods and reduces input latency with supported PlayStation and Xbox controllers.
Communication Safety Features

To prevent people from unexpectedly viewing sensitive images in Messages, AirDrop, FaceTime messages, and third-party apps, users now have the option to enable a Sensitive Content Warning. That way, photos and videos containing nudity will be blurred, with the option to choose whether you want to see them and the ability to block the contact who sent them. Expanding on the communication safety features for children in iOS 15, parents and guardians can blur sensitive videos (in addition to photos) that their children send or receive as well. The feature also works with the Photos app when opened within Messages.
New Screen Savers
Video: Apple
If you love the preloaded screensavers that come with your Mac, you’ll be happy to hear that new options are here. There are slow-motion videos of locations from all around the world, including Arizona, California, and Hong Kong. The login prompt has also moved to the bottom of the screen, so it no longer gets in the way of the image on your display.
An Improved Typing Experience

It’s no secret that Apple’s Autocorrect isn’t the most accurate. And regardless of whether you’re on iPhone, iPad, or Mac, it can be a super frustrating feature. Using “enhanced on-device language models,” Autocorrect fixes typos more accurately. Autocorrected words are also now underlined temporarily—making it easier to keep up with what’s been changed as you’re typing. With a new inline predictive text capability, you’ll also see single and multi-word predictions based on what you’re typing to help you finish the message faster.
Accessibility Features

MacOS Sonoma includes a wide range of new accessibility features for vision, cognitive, and speech support. Among the list of capabilities are phonetic suggestions that appear when dictating and editing text via Voice Control; animated images (like GIFs) that can be paused in Safari or Messages; Live Speech, where users can type messages to be spoken aloud during FaceTime and phone calls; the option to customize text size on Mac apps; and the ability to connect Made for iPhone hearing devices to your Mac (available on the 2021 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, 2022 Mac Studio, and Mac computers with an M2 chip).
Transcripts With Apple Podcasts
When using Apple’s Podcasts app, you can now simultaneously listen to a podcast episode and read the transcript on your Mac. You can within the transcript for certain lines and keywords too. It’s currently available for English, Spanish, German, and French-language podcasts.
Upgrades to the Notes App
If you’re struggling to keep track of all your notes, you’ll be relieved to know that Apple has added the option to link them to each other. You no longer have to scroll through the app to find what you’re looking for. You now have access to new text styles as well, including Block Quote (which offsets a section of writing with a quote bar) and Monostyled Text (with inset text and a visible background). For more layouts and formatting tools, you can also open a specific note in the Pages app.
New Emoji
Photograph: Emojipedia
With MacOS 14.4, you now have new emoji to pick from including a phoenix, a broken chain, a shaking head, a brown mushroom, and more. You’ll also have four new family emoji, six people emoji now available in both directions (like “Person Walking Facing Right”), and four non-gender family emoji.
Additional Features:
Reminders: Putting together a grocery list? Reminders will automatically sort the items you add based on categories. It will also remember your preferences whenever you change how items are grouped. And a new Column View organizes sections into columns across your screen.
Find My: You can add up to five other people to your Find My network accessories or AirTags. Those added will be able to follow the item on the map or play a sound to help pinpoint the location of the item.
Siri: The days of “Hey Siri” are gone. All you have to do is say “Siri” to trigger the voice assistant. This feature will only be available for Macs running an M-series chip.
Photos: In addition to recognizing people, the Photo app can (finally) automatically recognize cats and dogs.
Visual Lookup: With the Look Up tool, you can get more information on the subject of a photo. For example, if it’s a photo of food, you can use the feature to find recipes for similar dishes. You can use Visual Lookup in paused video frames too.
Home App: A new Activity History feature now allows you to see who locked or unlocked the door (and when), as well as recent activity for contact sensors, garage doors, and your security system.
Apple Music: You’ll be able to invite friends to join a playlist, giving them the ability to add, remove, or reorder songs.
Enhanced AutoFill for PDFs: You’ll be able to fill out PDFs in Preview using enhanced AutoFill. It will identify fillable fields—like your name, address, and email—and automatically input the information for you.
Catch Up Arrow: Whether you’re in a group chat or a private conversation, coming back to tons of new messages is overwhelming. A new “catch-up” arrow will bring you to the first new message with a simple tap—so you no longer have to scroll up to find it yourself.
AppleCare & Warranty: You now can check your coverage for all devices signed in with your Apple ID through Settings.
Safari Favorites Bar: You can now choose to show only icons for your favorite websites. All you have to do is right-click on the specific site, and de-select “Show Title.” It’ll then automatically appear as an icon.
Updates in Messages for Business: In Messages, you can now opt-in to receive updates like flight notifications, order status, fraud alerts, and more.
With the second beta of iOS 17.5 that’s available today, iPhone users located in the European Union are able to download apps directly from the websites of Apple app developers without going through the App Store or an alternative app marketplace.
Since March, Apple has been working on support for downloading apps from websites, and the feature is finally ready for testing. Apple started letting developers offer their apps through alternative app marketplaces in the EU in iOS 17.4, but the website option adds a new method for acquiring apps.
App developers that want to offer iOS apps from their websites in the European Union need to meet specific criteria to ensure the safety of iPhone users. Apps must undergo Apple’s Notarization process, and developers need to be a member of the Apple Developer Program for two continuous years or more.
Only apps that have had one million annual first installs or more on iOS in the EU in the prior year are eligible for download from a website. Developers that meet these terms will be able to use an API for web-based app downloads. Apps downloaded through the web using the API can be backed up, restored, and updated as standard apps can.
When an iPhone user in the EU visits a website to install an app, users will need to grant express permission for that developer to install apps to Settings. A system sheet will display the app name, developer name, app description, screenshots, and more.
Developers are only able to offer apps from their developer account, and are required to publish transparent data collection policies so users are aware of how data is collected and used. Apps distributed outside of the App Store need to provide customer support, refunds, and offer a way to manage apps.
While developers do not have to pay a cut of app sales to Apple for apps distributed through websites, there is a 0.50 euro Core Technology Fee for each annual install over one million in the past 12 months. The fee is waived for nonprofit organizations, accredited educational institutions, and government entities.
Downloading apps outside of the App Store is limited to iPhone users who are located in the European Union, and Apple has implemented these options to comply with the EU’s Digital Markets Act. The functionality is not available on the iPad, nor is it open to iPhone users in other countries.
The Galaxy S24 series uses a new processor (Exynos 2400 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 depending on the model and country) featuring faster 5G modems, resulting in faster download and upload speeds on cellular networks. In fact, the Galaxy S24 series is faster than the iPhone 15 in median 5G download and upload speeds in most countries worldwide.
Galaxy S24 with Exynos and Snapdragon chips faster than iPhone 15 in 5G download and upload speeds
Ookla, the company behind the famous SpeedTest.net website, has shared its insights on the fastest 5G smartphones worldwide. It compared all the speed test results it received on its platform and found that the Galaxy S24 series outdid the iPhone 15 in fifteen countries/regions worldwide.
In France, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Qatar, Spain, Thailand, the Philippines, the UAE, the UK, and the US, the Galaxy S24 had a faster median download and upload speeds than the iPhone 15 and previous-generation Galaxy phones. The iPhone 15 displayed faster 5G performance in Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea.
The Galaxy S24 was better than the Galaxy S23 and the iPhone 15 family in latency tests as well. These tests were done from February 1 to March 24, 2024. The median download speeds of the Galaxy S24 ranged from as low as 55Mbps to as high as 971Mbps, depending on the market. As you know, cellular data speeds vary greatly depending on the carrier, cellular technology, and signal reception.
If you’re using an older phone, you should upgrade to the Galaxy S24 to get the best possible 5G speeds. Watch our full Galaxy S24 review in the video below. Click the button below the video to buy the Galaxy S24.
Apple today released the first beta of iOS 17.5 to developers, and as expected, the update introduces support for downloading apps from developer websites in the European Union.
In iOS 17.4, Apple began allowing developers to offer their apps through alternative app marketplaces in the European Union to comply with the Digital Markets Act. Apple initially intended for apps to only be available through these marketplaces, but in March, Apple said that it would in fact be adding support for downloading apps directly from websites.
To offer an app for download from a website in the European Union, developers need to meet specific criteria. Developers need to be a member of the Apple Developer Program for two continuous years or more and must have an app with more than one million first installs on iOS in the European Union in the prior year. Other requirements include submitting to Apple’s notarization process and publishing transparent data collection policies.
Apple will provide authorized developers with an API that allows them to offer their apps for download via the web. Apps downloaded this way will be able to be backed up, restored, updated, and more.
This is the first time that Apple has sanctioned downloading an app directly from a website. Support for this feature will allow apps like Spotify, Fortnite, and others to be downloaded directly on iPhones should the developers behind those apps opt in to Apple’s terms.
Apps offered through the web do not have to pay any commission to Apple, but they are subject to the 0.50 euro Core Technology Fee.
As with alternative app marketplaces, app downloads from the web are available in the European Union only under the terms of the DMA. Note that apps can only be downloaded this way on the iPhone as the changes do not apply to the iPad.

Apple today announced three further changes for developers in the European Union, allowing them to distribute apps directly from webpages, choose how to design in-app promotions, and more.
Apple last week enabled alternative app stores in the EU in iOS 17.4, allowing third-party app stores to offer a catalog of other developers’ apps as well as the marketplace developer’s own apps. As of today, Apple is allowing third-party app stores to offer apps solely from their own catalog. For example, a games studio could create an app store on iOS that exclusively offers their own games.
When directing users to complete a transaction on their website, developers can also now choose how to design their in-app promotions, discounts, and deals. Apple’s templates for designing these links out to websites are optional as of today.
In addition, developers will soon be able to distribute apps directly from their websites, providing they meet Apple’s specific criteria, such as being a member of the Apple Developer Program for two continuous years or more and having an app with more than one million first installs on iOS in the EU in the prior year, and commit to ongoing requirements, such as publishing transparent data collection policies. Apps distributed in this way must meet Apple’s notarization requirements like all other iOS apps and can only be installed from a web domain registered in App Store Connect.
Authorized developers will gain access to APIs to facilitate app distribution from the web, integration with system functionality, back up and restore, and more. Web distribution will become available following a software update later in the spring – allowing app downloads directly from a website for the first time on iOS.
The latest changes are part of Apple’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) compliance plan and only apply within the European Union.

With the introduction of iOS 17, Apple has made it possible for iPhone users to download maps for offline use. This feature provides a practical solution for users who may be traveling to areas with unreliable or non-existent internet connections. By downloading maps onto their devices, users can ensure that they will always have access to their desired routes, even if they lose a cellular connection.
Offline maps are more than just a static image of a location. They provide users with a wealth of information, such as hours and ratings for places, turn-by-turn directions, and estimated arrival times. This means that even without a Wi-Fi or cellular connection, users can still navigate and access key information about their surroundings.
Use search in Maps
Open the Maps app and search search for a location, then select the place in your search results.
Tap the Download button if it’s available, or tap More then tap Download Map.
You can also adjust the area that you want included in your offline map before you download. To make sure you have the exact area you need.
Drop a pin
Open the Maps app, tap an unmarked area to drop a pin.
Press Download.
Again you can adjust the area that you want included in your offline map before you download. To make sure you have the exact area you need.
Use the offline maps settings

However, users should be aware that offline maps consume storage space on their device. To help manage this, the Maps app shows the file size of a potential offline map before it is downloaded. This allows users to make an informed decision about whether they have enough space on their device to accommodate the map.
Once downloaded, offline maps can be viewed on an Apple Watch when the iPhone is on and within Bluetooth range. This provides an additional level of convenience for users who prefer to navigate using their smartwatch.
It’s important to note that offline maps do not sync across devices. They are also only available in select areas and are not intended for use in all regions. Therefore, users may need to plan ahead and download the necessary maps before they travel.
Managing offline maps is also simple. Users can tap their picture or initials next to the search field in the Maps app, tap Offline Maps, and then select the map to edit or delete. This gives users full control over the maps they have downloaded and ensures that they can easily remove any maps they no longer need.
The Maps app also allows users to adjust their offline maps settings. For example, they can choose to download offline maps only when connected to a Wi-Fi network, automatically update offline maps, delete unused offline maps after a certain period, and use downloaded maps even when there is an internet connection.
In the Maps app, tap your picture or initials next to the search field.
Tap Offline Maps.
Under Settings, turn on the setting that you want to use.
The ability to download maps for offline use is a valuable feature for iPhone users. Early Warning System: IDSP operates as an early warning system, identifying unusual patterns of diseases or outbreaks. It allows for timely response and containment measures.
Data Collection and Reporting: Health workers and facilities report disease-related data to the program regularly. This data includes information on disease incidence, morbidity, and mortality.
Data Analysis: IDSP employs data analysis tools to generate insights from the collected information. It helps in understanding disease patterns, risk factors, and vulnerable populations.
Capacity Building: The program conducts training and capacity-building initiatives for healthcare personnel, including surveillance officers, to improve their skills in disease surveillance and reporting.
Laboratory Strengthening: IDSP works on enhancing the capabilities of public health laboratories. This includes improving diagnostic facilities and ensuring the timely and accurate testing of samples.
Epidemiological Investigations: When outbreaks occur, IDSP conducts epidemiological investigations to understand the source and transmission of diseases. This helps in devising appropriate control measures.
Public Health Response: Based on the surveillance data and investigation findings, IDSP supports public health authorities in implementing effective response strategies, including vaccination campaigns and treatment.
Health Information Dissemination: The program disseminates health information and advisories to the public and healthcare professionals to raise awareness and promote preventive measures.
Research and Evaluation: IDSP often conducts research to improve disease surveillance methods and evaluates the effectiveness of various interventions.
International Collaboration: IDSP collaborates with international organizations and agencies to share information and best practices in disease surveillance and control.
