Content producers are churning out data in unprecedented volumes, with high-definition images and 4K/8K video content consuming an enormous amount of storage space. Creators typically need to store several versions of their projects, including the initial raw files, edited versions, and the published format.
Catering to this need, Western Digital has launched a new external SSD, the SanDisk Desk Drive, which comes in 4 and 8TB capacities.
External SSDs can operate at incredibly high speeds compared to their HDD counterparts, which means that content creators can not only store, but also edit their photos and videos directly from the drive itself, decreasing the time spent on transferring files, accelerating work efficiency while ensuring that the data is securely stored.
16TB versions planned
“As digital content creation continues to soar, there is an increasing need for high-performing and high-capacity storage solutions to help manage and preserve it. Expanding our SSD portfolio is the first step in offering creators backup solutions that deliver the speed and flexibility they need to unlock their creativity,” says Susan Park, Vice President, Consumer Solutions, Western Digital.
The SanDisk Desk Drive boasts read speeds up to 1000 MB/s, and fast backup capabilities using Apple Time Machine or the included downloadable Acronis True Image for Western Digital backup software. The device also sports a modern Red Dot award-winning design.
Retailing at $379.99/£359.99 and $699.99/£663.99 for the 4TB and 8TB versions respectively, these devices can be purchased now from the Western Digital Store and other retailers.
Western Digital doesn’t intend to stop at 8TB however. Susan Park says, “By next year, we expect to double the capacity of the SanDisk Desk Drive from 8TB to 16TB on a single desktop SSD.”

TikTok this week announced that it has started automatically labeling AI-generated content created on third-party platforms, preventing AI images and videos from confusing and misleading viewers.
Content made using TikTok’s AI creation tools has included an AI label for more than a year, but going forward, TikTok will also label AI images made through other platforms. TikTok’s tool will read Content Credentials, a technology from the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA). Content Credentials are designed to attach metadata to AI content, facilitating AI labeling.
TikTok’s AI labeling started rolling out today on images and videos, and it will soon be coming to audio-only content. Content created with AI will have a label that says “AI-generated” under an account’s TikTok username.
Labeling may be gradual, as content needs to have Content Credentials included for it to be identified and labeled. As other platforms adopt credentials, AI identification will increase across all social networks.
In the future, TikTok will add Content Credentials to TikTok content that will remain when images and videos are downloaded, so people and other social networks can use the C2PA Verify tools to identify AI content that was made on TikTok.

In a devastating blog post, image-uploading site Abload announced that it would be permanently shutting down its website by June 30, 2024. Abload, which has been around as a free service since 2006, stopped accepting new uploads back in December 2023.
According to the blog post, the team had spent four months trying to keep the site afloat but failed in the end and now its entire contents — legacy images and links alike — are forfeit. What makes this even more tragic is that it’s something that keeps happening as the internet becomes more profit-driven and centralized.
This phenomenon recently occurred with Gliphy, a free site where you could upload and create gifs that could then be shared throughout the internet. Gliphy eventually went under and with it the entire expanse of its years-long collection. Just like that, internet history was erased. Even some of my own workshave suffered thanks to losing this valuable resource.
Remnants of the old internet are disappearing
There’s a pattern here, with websites from the older internet created so users can freely create and share content being driven either to adopt a subscription model to survive or perish and sacrifice its entire catalog of content. Even looking at our best photo storage and sharing sites list, the only entries that survived from that era are Flickr and Photobucket, with the latter completely eliminating its free-use option.
Seeing so much online history being lost, with very few methods left to preserve it (the Wayback Machine, an amazing resource, cannot preserve Abload’s images), is truly difficult to watch. Personal cloud storage has grown in popularity over the years but as you can see from our aforementioned list, almost none of them serve the same function as these older websites. They solely exist to store photos but are incapable of letting you share and embed them on other websites.
It represents how much the internet has changed over the decades. Unfortunately, the reality is that as the internet changes instead of its past being preserved it’s instead discarded and lost to time. This also has the added effect of breaking old websites and forums that featured a significant amount of images from hosting sites like Abload, which means even more of what remains of archived content is further lost and ruined.

You can amplify your content’s effectiveness by adopting a comprehensive strategy to review and strengthen your title tags, meta descriptions, and header tags.
Frase is a powerful tool that can help you improve your web content in various ways. One helpful feature it offers is the ability to generate recommendations for text even before you start writing. You can input a suggested blog title with the blog introduction generator, and Frase will analyze and improve it. This can save you a lot of time and effort and help you develop attention-grabbing blog titles that will surely attract readers.
Frase also offers an outline generator that can help kickstart your post and provide a clear roadmap. This approach can be advantageous if you’re battling writer’s block or uncertain about how to begin your content. With Frase, you can be confident that your web content will be engaging and effective.
How does Frase use artificial intelligence?
Frase was established in 2016, and its success can be attributed to the advent of artificial intelligence. Frase’s offerings for web developers leverage AI in various ways.
Rather than manually searching for relevant information, Frase utilizes AI to analyze the top-ranking search results for your target keyword. This gives you an understanding of the type of content that Google prioritizes for that topic, including frequently asked questions and critical points to cover.
Frase’s AI is also at the core of its content generation tools. It can help generate content outlines and even write specific sections of your content, such as introductions and conclusions, by utilizing the data it gathered from the top-ranking search results to create relevant and informative content.
Moreover, AI powers Frase’s SEO optimization tools. Analyzing your content can suggest improvements to optimize it for search engines. This includes ensuring that you’re using the appropriate keywords and that your content structure is easy for search engines to crawl and comprehend.

If you are looking for a comprehensive solution to manage your SEO and content needs, Frase is worth considering. Frase’s offerings are easily accessible through its website, provided you have an internet connection. The company’s help center is a great starting point for users, especially if you are new to the platform. Plans and pricing
If you’re new to Frase, you can sign up for a free trial on the company website. However, this offer is limited to only one user and one search query. The training tools and help center available on the website should help you decide whether Frase is suitable for your needs.
Frase offers plans for individuals and teams. For solo users, the membership fee is $15/month or $12/month (when paid annually), allowing for up to 10 search queries per month.
For those requiring more, the Frase Basic plan, which costs $45/month or $38/month (when paid annually). This plan allows one user and up to 30 monthly search queries.
Finally, the team plan starts at $97/month (when paid annually) or $115/month (when paid monthly) and covers up to three users with unlimited search queries. Additional users can be added for $25 per month.
These prices are in line with what other companies charge. However, I’d suggest limiting search queries to 10 or 30 per month, which is probably not enough for most users, and $115 for unlimited searches seems excessive. Ideally, the company should offer solo users unlimited searches for anywhere between $45 and $115 per month. Luckily, you can make membership changes at any time online.
Final verdict
Frase’s SEO analysis stands out for its detailed and comprehensive approach. It covers essential metrics like domain rating, heading count, and word count and provides a unique perspective that aids in tracking content performance.
Frase’s AI tools are impressive and make content creation much more manageable. The blog introduction and outline generators are beneficial, as they save time while ensuring the content is optimized for SEO.
Another standout feature of Frase is the competitive analysis tool. It allows users to analyze the top-ranking content for specific keywords, providing valuable insights into the competition and helping to improve the content’s performance.
Some users have reported that the interface can be overwhelming at first glance. The layout may not be as intuitive as other tools, and it may take time to navigate between the features. However, once users get used to it, they find that Frase can be a potent tool.
While AI tools are impressive for generating content and conducting research, they are not yet foolproof. For example, the AI may occasionally misinterpret the user’s intent and provide irrelevant results. However, Frase is constantly improving its algorithms and updating its database, so users can expect the AI tools to become more accurate over time.
Lastly, Frase’s current membership levels are not very impressive. The search limit for some of its paid memberships is relatively low, which can be frustrating for users who must conduct multiple searches. Frase could offer unlimited searches for all packages and make pricing adjustments based only on the number of users.
Overall, Frase is a good product with some excellent features. With some improvements to the interface and membership options, it could be an even better tool for content creators and SEO professionals.
In today’s digital-first environment children are being routinely exposed to harmful, age-restricted and even illegal content online. The continued proliferation of smart devices and easy, anywhere access to user-generated content (UGC) through social media and chat platforms is only exacerbating the issue.
At the tap of a button, individuals can now be exposed to more adult, extreme and illegal content than ever before. And in the UK it has been revealed that children themselves are now the biggest perpetrators of sexual abuse against children (52%).
The UK’s National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) has directly correlated this trend with the ease of access young people have to the internet via smartphones. While the IWF has revealed that the development of new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) will only exacerbate the creation, distribution and ease of access to illegal content such as Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) further.
Safer Internet Day brings together thousands of young people, parents and organizations each year to raise awareness of how children can stay safe online. It provides an opportunity to bring the conversation and enforcement of safer practices to the mainstream, helping to protect children from inappropriate or illegal content and visiting the dark web.
This year it must also become a springboard for businesses to enhance their online age assurance and content moderation to ensure they are doing their utmost to protect the young and vulnerable.
Michal Karnibad
Ease of Access in an online world
While the internet’s easy accessibility has brought numerous benefits, the truth is that as a result of its rapid, and often unregulated development, children now have unprecedented access to age restricted and illegal online content.
This is naturally a leading concern for parents, with research from Ofcom revealing that 75% worry about their children seeing inappropriate content when online. 73% specified this as adult or sexual content.
Not only is the viewing of this content a horrific occurrence in itself, but it also leads to a detrimental impact on children’s longer-term wellbeing and mental health, as well as warping young people’s views on sex and appropriate behavior.
Many popular social media sites permit users to create accounts from just 13 years of age, despite the fact that age-restricted and illegal content can be accessed and shared. This, paired with the camera and video capabilities of modern smart devices, makes it all too easy for users to produce, upload and view inappropriate content quickly.
The digital world therefore needs to catch up with the offline world, where viewing an individual’s documentation and physical appearance is the norm, making it far easier and practical for authorities to restrict them from accessing age-restricted products and content.
Age assurance and content moderation
To overcome these challenges, organizations must rapidly deploy and enhance their age assurance and content moderation infrastructure. The advent of technologies such as AI has made it far easier and practical than ever before to identify and stamp out illegal content online at scale, accurately and at a low cost.
With regulatory guidance on online safety measures still forthcoming, organizations have historically had little business incentive to implement these technologies. But the wellbeing of our young people is at stake. Rather than pointing fingers now is the time to implement pragmatic solutions to solve the issue of how we best protect children online. Businesses should be engaging and partnering with subject matter experts in this area, including the regulators and safety tech providers. This way we can build an ecosystem of effective solutions that when implemented truly provide protection to young people when they go online.
With a plethora of age assurance solutions such as email address age estimation now out there, businesses have the tools at their disposal to verify the age of customers with minimal friction. At the same time, content moderation tools now enable the analysis of uploaded or live-streamed content in real-time, before it is published, providing instant solutions that flag or remove illegal material.
Furthermore the implementation of proactive solutions such as uploader and participant verification facilitate consent and reduce the risk of revenge porn, intimate image abuse, exploitation, slavery and sex trafficking.
Safety and privacy
Despite these available tools, work still needs to be done to protect children online and remove illegal content from sites. This challenge is often exacerbated by the ongoing safety and privacy debate, where technology companies and social media firms state the importance of encryption in keeping user data safe. The problem with encryption, however, is that it can be abused by bad actors to distribute and circulate age-restricted or illegal content online.
This is a debate which will only grow in prominence over the next few months, especially now that the UK’s Online Safety Act has come into law. Fortunately, as new privacy preserving authentication tools emerge, such as email address, organizations will be able to mitigate this concern. This is something which was specifically called out in recent guidance from the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the body that regulates both privacy (GDPR in the UK) and online content.
It’s only logical therefore that while the regulators push out these new robust laws, and social media and technology firms adapt to the changes, businesses become responsible for their own actions. This means taking the lead on implementing age assurance and content moderation tools that drive meaningful change across their industries. Safer Internet Day provides the perfect opportunity to start doing this.

OpenAI’s Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati recently sat down with The Wall Street Journal to reveal interesting details about their upcoming text-to-video generator Sora.
The interview covers a wide array of topics from the type of content the AI engine will produce to the security measures being put into place. Combating misinformation is a sticking point for the company. Murati states Sora will have multiple safety guardrails to ensure the technology isn’t misused. She says the team wouldn’t feel comfortable releasing something that “might affect global elections”. According to the article, Sora will follow the same prompt policies as Dall-E meaning it’ll refuse to create “images of public figures” such as the President of the United States.
Watermarks are going to be added too. A transparent OpenAI logo can be found in the lower right-hand corner indicating that it’s AI footage. Murati adds that they may also adopt content provenance as another indicator. This uses metadata to give information on the origins of digital media. That’s all well and good, but it may not be enough. Last year, a group of researchers managed to break “current image watermarking protections”, including those belonging to OpenAI. Hopefully, they come up with something tougher.
Generative features
Things get interesting when they begin to talk about Sora‘s future. First off, the developers have plans to “eventually” add sound to videos to make them more realistic. Editing tools are on the itinerary as well, giving online creators a way to fix the AI’s many mistakes.
As advanced as Sora is, it makes a lot of errors. One of the prominent examples in the piece revolves around a video prompt asking the engine to generate a video where a robot steals a woman’s camera. Instead, the clip shows the woman partially becoming a robot. Murati admits there is room for improvement stating the AI is “quite good at continuity, [but] it’s not perfect”.
Nudity is not off the table. Murati says OpenAI is working with “artists… to figure out” what kind of nude content will be allowed. It seems the team would be okay with allowing “artistic” nudity while banning things like non-consensual deep fakes. Naturally, OpenAI would like to avoid being the center of a potential controversy although they want their product to be seen as a platform fostering creativity.
Ongoing tests
When asked about the data used to train Sora, Murati was a little evasive.
She started off by claiming she didn’t know what was used to teach the AI other than it was either “publically available or license data”. What’s more, Murati wasn’t sure if videos from YouTube, Facebook, or Instagram were a part of the training. However she later admitted that media from Shutterstock was indeed used. The two companies, if you’re not aware, have a partnership which could explain why Murati was willing to confirm it as a source.
Murati states Sora will “definitely” launch by the end of the year. She didn’t give an exact date although it could happen within the coming months. For now, the developers are safety testing the engine looking for any “vulnerabilities, biases, and other harmful results”.
If you’re thinking of one day trying out Sora, we suggest learning how to use editing software. Remember, it makes many errors and might continue to do so at launch. For recommendations, check out TechRadar’s best video editing software for 2024.

If you are interested in learning more about the capabilities of four of the main AI tools that can be used to right AI content for your business, book or website. This comparison guide provides more insight by comparing Perplexity AI vs Agility Writer vs Gemini vs SEOWriting. In the current dynamic realm of digital content creation, artificial intelligence (AI) writing tools have become crucial for writers who aim to boost their productivity and the caliber of their work.
These advanced programs offer a range of functionalities that can significantly aid content creators in crafting compelling and engaging articles. Among the plethora of options available, a few AI writing tools stand out for their exceptional capabilities and have become the focus of attention for those seeking to elevate their writing process.
At the forefront of these tools is Perplexity with GPT-4 Turbo, known for its advanced language generation that closely mimics the subtlety and rhythm of human writing. This feature is particularly appealing to creators who prioritize text that reads naturally. Despite its impressive linguistic prowess, it’s worth noting that there are concerns about its search engine optimization (SEO) features and its ability to stick to specific word counts, which are crucial for meeting certain content creation goals.
Another contender in the AI content writer space is Gemini Pro Advanced, which offers a wide array of features suitable for a variety of writing tasks, ranging from casual blog posts to detailed technical articles. It’s essential to evaluate how effectively it integrates keywords without compromising the natural flow of the text and whether it can achieve the desired SEO results.
Agility Writer, on the other hand, emphasizes the quality of content, ensuring that each sentence is meaningful and impactful rather than simply contributing to a word count. When considering Agility Writer, it’s important to look at how well it avoids detection as AI-generated content, which is a significant factor for maintaining the authenticity of the writing.
When leveraging AI to generate articles, it’s critical to prioritize quality and factual accuracy. The content produced should not only engage readers but also provide them with reliable information. A seamless content creation workflow involves choosing the right tool, setting clear criteria, and refining the output to meet high standards. A common shortfall among these AI writing tools is the absence of a dedicated feature for understanding search intent, which is vital for creating content that resonates with the audience’s specific needs and interests, thereby enhancing relevance and engagement.
Selecting the right AI writing tool is a decision that depends on individual needs and budgetary considerations. While some tools excel in SEO and precise word count adherence, others may offer superior readability or overall content quality. The challenge lies in finding a balance and choosing a tool that aligns with your content creation goals.
