Nearly one year after it launched in the U.S., the Apple Card’s high-yield savings account will be receiving its first-ever interest rate decrease.
Starting on April 3, the Apple Card savings account’s annual percentage yield (APY) will be lowered to 4.4%, according to data on Apple’s backend discovered by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris. The account currently has a 4.5% APY.
When the Apple Card’s savings account first became available, it offered an APY of 4.15%. The rate then increased three times, first to 4.25%, then to 4.35%, and finally to 4.5%. The drop to 4.4% will be the first time the rate has gone down.
Apple launched its savings account in April 2023, in partnership with Goldman Sachs. The account can be opened and managed in the Wallet app on the iPhone, and it has no fees, no minimum deposits, and no minimum balance requirements. You must have an Apple Card, be a U.S. resident, and be at least 18 years old to open an account.
The account allows Apple Card holders to earn interest on their Daily Cash cashback balance, and on funds deposited via a linked bank account or an Apple Cash balance. The maximum balance allowed is now $1,000,000, up from a previous limit of $250,000.
To open a savings account in the Wallet app, tap on your Apple Card, tap on the circle with three dots at the top of the screen, tap Daily Cash, and select Set Up Savings.
The calendar has turned to April, so we have updated our chart comparing the Apple Card savings account’s annual percentage yield (APY) to some other popular high-yield savings accounts (HYSAs) available to U.S. residents.
With a 4.5% APY, Apple’s savings account remains a middle-of-the-pack HYSA, but balance minimums and other requirements vary by financial institution.

Here’s a good deal if you need a big chunk of storage space for a Nintendo Switch, Raspberry Pi or any other device that still accepts microSD cards: The 1TB version of Lexar’s Professional 1066x card is now down to $76.49 on Amazon. That’s the lowest price we’ve tracked for this model and roughly $9 off the card’s typical street price. The discount comes as part of a wider sale on Lexar storage gear that started on Sunday for World Backup Day, a commemorative date that intends to raise awareness about data protection and preservation. (Seagate, Crucial and other storage manufacturers are still running sales as well.)
Lexar
This is the lowest price we’ve seen for this recommended 1TB microSD card.
The Professional 1066x is not a formal pick in our microSD card buying guide, as it’s a bit slower than our top choices, Samsung’s Pro Plus and Pro Ultimate, particularly in terms of sequential read speeds (which matter when you want to access large files stored on the card). Still, neither of those cards are available in a 1TB capacity — the Pro Plus will be, but not until later this year — and the Lexar model wasn’t drastically far behind in our benchmark tests. For devices like the Switch or Steam Deck that cap microSD cards to standard UHS-I speeds, or even for capturing 4K video more casually, it’ll be good enough. We’ll note that there are some 1TB cards available for less, but among the models we’ve tested, this is a solid value for those who need a high capacity above all else.
If you need a standard SD card, meanwhile, this sale also brings the SD version of the 1TB Professional 1066x down to $110. That’s another all-time low and about $15 off that model’s usual going rate.
Looking for a cheap, reliable, and fast broadband deal that won’t break the bank? Then Shell Energy broadband’s latest broadband offer could be perfect.
Shell Energy Broadband’s popular Superfast Fibre Plus tariff is available for just £25.99 per month. Plus, as well as being affordable, this particular broadband package comes with a £50 gift card that can be redeemed on Amazon. You’ll get this once your connection is online and the validation period has passed.
To be eligible to receive this deal, you’ll need to take out an 18-month contract and pay an upfront fee of £10.55.
With this broadband package, you’ll be able to make the most of average download speeds of 67Mbps and you get the company’s new ‘Wi-Fi 6 hub’ included. For this reason, we think it’s a great choice for small to medium households that want to download, stream in HD and casually browse across multiple devices.
However, there are a couple of things to be aware of if you want to take out this deal. Firstly, Shell Energy’s broadband customers have recently been purchased by TalkTalk. As a result, you’ll be automatically transferred to TalkTalk at some point during the duration of your contract (this will be free and all you’ll need to do is pay your bill as normal). Secondly, this broadband deal expires at midnight on 17th April.
This week’s best Shell Energy Broadband deal
Why choose Shell Energy for your broadband?
You may know Shell Energy better as an energy supplier, but for the past few years, the company has also been one of the country’s most popular broadband providers. It’s easy to see why this has been the case, too. After all, the company regularly offers fast download speeds at affordable prices. Thanks to this, Shell Energy broadband has won several industry awards, including a ‘great value’ award from Good Housekeeping in 2023.
However, as popular as Shell Energy broadband has been over the past few years, Shell Energy UK was recently bought by Octopus, with the incoming energy company selling Shell Energy UK’s broadband customers to TalkTalk.
As a result, in the coming months, all Shell Energy broadband customers will be moved over to TalkTalk free of charge. There’s no need to be worried though, your existing contract will remain valid and you’ll just need to keep paying your bill as usual. You’ll then be notified when it’s time to be transferred to TalkTalk. At this point, the move will happen automatically and you don’t need to do anything. In fact, Shell Energy uses some of TalkTalk’s technology behind the scenes, so the transfer process should be seamless.

This item sold for a value that may set a new record for a business card with signature. Photo: RR Auction/Cult of Mac
Steve Jobs’ business card bearing the signature of the Apple cofounder himself sold at auction for an amazing value: over $180,000. This is supposedly the most ever paid for a signed business card.
A collection of other Apple memorabilia brought in big bucks at the same auction, a sign of the popularity of rare items from the iPhone-maker.
Steve Jobs signature brings top value
Anything Jobs signed is valuable, and not just because he was a cofounder of Apple and the face of the company for decades. He’s someone who didn’t sign many autographs, so there aren’t huge numbers of pieces of paper floating around with his signature.
And the business card is a stand out. It’s from circa 1983, the year before the release of the original Macintosh, and has the original Apple rainbow logo. It’s in near perfect condition, and was graded by PSA/DNA as GEM MT 10.
“The sale of the Steve Jobs-signed Apple business card for over $180,000 sets a new standard in autographed business cards. It’s a testament to the enduring legacy of Jobs and the profound impact of Apple on our modern world,” said Bobby Livingston, Executive VP at RR Auction, who handled the sale.
Other items bearing the signature of Apple’s co-founder have fetched large sums in the past. A check made out to a consulting firm in 1976 brought in $107,000 at auction last spring, while one made out to Radio Shack in that same year sold late last year for $46,000.
Other items included an Apple-1 Computer signed by Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak that brought in $323,789. Additionally, a factory-sealed 4GB original 2007 iPhone sold for $147,286.
Jobs and Wozniak united to form Apple Computer in the 1970s, a collaboration that led to the Macintosh in 1984. Almost anything that bears the signature of one or both of them always does well at auction.
A rare Apple Computer business card signed by Steve Jobs recently sold for $181,183 at auction, according to Boston-based RR Auction.
The business card is from 1983, and it has been authenticated by well-known memorabilia grading service PSA, according to the auction listing. It features Apple’s old six-color logo, and it lists the company’s former address of 10495 Bandley Drive, in Cupertino, California. Jobs is listed as the Chairman of Apple’s Board of Directors.
RR Auction believes this sale has set a new record-high price for a signed business card.
Jobs passed away in 2011 at the age of 56. Throughout his career, he was reluctant to sign autographs, so items with his signature on them often sell for large sums of money. Last year, for example, a check signed by Jobs sold for over $100,000 at auction.

In the market for a top broadband deal with ultrafast speeds? Look no further than this great broadband package from BT.
BT is currently offering its mighty Full Fibre 500 broadband package for just £34.99 a month when you sign a 24-month contract. This is down from the original price of £47.99 a month. What’s more, there aren’t any upfront fees to pay and if you sign up using our link before March 28, you can get a £50 BT Reward Card as well.
With this particular tariff, you get huge average download speeds of 500Mbps, plus upload speeds of 73Mbps and a 425Mbps ‘stay fast guarantee’ for added peace of mind. As such, this package can comfortably handle the online demands of pretty much any household. In fact, BT claims you can ‘stream and download as much as you like’ with this deal.
The BT Reward Card will be sent to you virtually/via email once your broadband is up and running. It can also be redeemed at any retailers that accept Mastercards online or over the phone.
You only have until March 28 to make the most of this offer. Another caveat is that you can only get the deal if you have access to BT’s Full Fibre network, but you can check this directly with them when you look to sign up. Lastly, Xbox owners can get a bonus six-month Game Pass for free – although this will only apply if you have this particular console!
This week’s best BT Broadband deal
Why choose BT Broadband?
As well as the great deals you can get from BT – such as the one we’ve featured above – there are many other great reasons why you should choose BT Broadband for your home broadband connection. After all, it is one of the most popular broadband providers for consumers in the UK.
One of the biggest positives is that its broadband packages can suit pretty much every personal need, from its slower 36Mbps fibre packages, right the way up to its top range 900Mbps tariff. When you add the fact that its broadband is also delivered through the dependable Openreach network, you can count on a reliable broadband connection for your home.
Another big draw is, of course, its broadband and TV bundles. BT rivals the likes of Sky and Virgin Media in this respect in that it has a wealth of channel options, which can again suit almost any viewing needs. Whether it’s all the free-to-air channels, or movie and sport selections, BT will have you covered. What’s more, you can even get access to other popular streaming services through BT.
Where BT can face some criticism is with cost, as it can sit at the more expensive end of the broadband market if you’re not making the most of a deal. However, if you want to see how BT does compare to other providers – whether it’s regarding cost or not – we can help. Create a virtual card for your Apple Cash. Image: D. Griffin Jones/Cult of Mac
You can get a temporary debit card number to pay with Apple Cash online in case you want to pay with your balance on a site that doesn’t accept Apple Pay. If you have a lot of money sitting in your Apple Cash account, this can be a convenient way to pay without using your other cards. (It’s also handy if you don’t have any credit or debit cards from other banks.)
In case it’s unclear, Apple Cash is what you receive when someone sends you money via iMessage. It’s not to be confused with the other products with similar names. Apple Card is a highly rated credit card you can apply for. (It’s a physical card, made of titanium.) Apple Card Savings is a high-interest savings account for people with a physical Apple Card. And Apple Pay is a payment method (secured by Face ID, Touch ID or your device’s passcode) that lets you pay with credit/debit cards from other banks.
Previously, you could only pay with your Apple Cash via Apple Pay (or transfer it to your bank). Now, you can tie your Apple Cash to a virtual card number to pay using your Apple Cash balance online. Here’s how to set it up.
Benefits of using an Apple Cash card number
Since this is a virtual card number, there are a few benefits to paying with your Apple Cash. The security code changes regularly and automatically, so it’s very hard for your card info to be stolen. And anytime you suspect fraud, you can refresh it with a new card number. Of course, you don’t need to wait for a new physical card to be made and mailed to your house — you can use it instantly.
You also don’t have to memorize a constantly changing security code or card number — it lives inside Safari autofill, so you you don’t really have to do anything.

How to pay with an Apple Cash card number
Update to iOS 17.4
Apple introduced this feature in iOS 17.4. To use it, you need to update your iPhone. Go to Settings > General > Software Update to install the latest version of iOS.
Open Apple Cash settings in the Wallet app
Open the Wallet app and tap on the Apple Cash card. (It’s black with a sparkly design.) Tap the ⋯ menu and tap Card Number.
Create your card number
Tap Set Up Virtual Card Number at the top of the screen. You’ll see a pop-up screen explaining how it works. Authenticate with Face ID to confirm, then tap Done.
Pay with your Apple Cash card in Safari
When you tap on a credit card field in Safari, you should see a number pad keyboard with a list of cards above. Scroll through the list of saved cards until you see Apple Cash. Tap on that, authenticate with Face ID, and it will automatically fill it in. You also can enter your virtual Apple Cash card number manually by copying and pasting it from the Wallet app. Open Wallet, tap on your Apple Cash card, tap ⋯ > Card Number. You can see the full card number, expiration date and security code here. Tap on any of these to copy it. Then go back to Safari and tap to paste.
Change your Apple Cash card number or security code
To get a new card number, go back to Wallet > Apple Cash > ⋯ > Card Number. Authenticate with Face ID. Tap Request New Card Number and confirm by tapping Request to get a new number. It’ll authenticate with Face ID, then generate a new num. Every time you open the Wallet app or use Safari autofill, a new security code is automatically generated (and they expire after only 24 hours).
More iOS 17 how-tos
There are more great features in iOS 17, and its latest update:
While I know first-hand how awesome the digital world of technology is – if I didn’t love it then I’d be in the wrong profession – I’m also the first to admit it can all get a little overwhelming.
Back in January, I offered my personal board game recommendations to help you fend off the New Year blues without turning on a screen, and this month I want to do the same for three trading card games (TCGs) that I love – and that don’t require any tech for you to enjoy them.
More importantly, they’ve all just had new releases on March 8. So if you’re reading this when it gets published, your friendly local game store might be running events where you can check these games out in a beginner-friendly environment.
Card games are my go-to way to get away from tech, and I’ve found that they’ve been a really useful tool for meeting new people so I can combat the rise in loneliness brought about in the post-pandemic era we find ourselves in. I hope they can help you too.
So, with that all in mind, here are my low-fi, low-tech recommendations for March 2023.
Magic The Gathering x Fallout
Rather than gaming on a PS5 or one of the best gaming laptops, why not bring the game to the kitchen table with one of the new Fallout Commander Decks for Magic The Gathering. Of the three TCGs on this list, Magic is by far my favorite, and Commander is one of the best ways to play the game.
Ideally played with four players (though games with more or fewer players are allowed), each person has a 100-card deck – one stack of 99 and a 100th ‘Commander’ that sits separately from the rest and can be cast at any time during your turn. By playing a mixture of lands and spells, your goal is to bring your opponent’s life totals from 40 to zero (you can also win if their deck runs out of cards or you achieve a special win condition based on the cards you play) before you’re eliminated.
(Image credit: Shutterstock / Ivan Krivenko)
Because of its multiplayer format, I find Commander is more casual and a lot more social than other card games. It’s easier to chat during matches, and sometimes you’ll need to work together with other players rather than against them to stop whoever is ahead from stomping you both.
What makes these Fallout decks special is that they feature exclusive new game pieces and reprints of iconic cards from the game’s 30-year-long history that show characters, themes, and items from the Fallout video game series – which is soon to be a TV show on Prime Video.
There are four to choose from: ‘Scrappy Survivors’ headed up by Fallout 4’s loyal canine companion Dogmeat, ‘Hail Caeser’ for all of you who love to play the villain, ‘Science!’ if you’re fascinated by Fallout’s Nuclear science, or ‘Mutant Menace’ if you’re interested in irradiated monsters and hazards that have been left in wake of the ‘Great War.’
If you’ve never played Magic before, picking up one of these decks is an excellent place to start. Not only does it take all the hassle out of designing your deck – a challenge for newer players – but while I’ve yet to use one of these specific decks myself, I’ve seen plenty of preconstructed Commander decks like these win games straight out of the box.
You can also bling out your new deck with exclusive-Fallout Collector Boosters which offer exclusive reprints and artwork not found in the decks. Though the disadvantage is you don’t know what you’re getting, and one pack can be pricey – so you might be better off buying the exact card you want from your local game store or online (I use eBay and Cardmarket).
Lorcana: Into the Inklands
If you prefer Disney to Fallout or are a little newer to TCGs and frightened by the complexity of the game, then you might want to try Lorcana instead – a game that brings the best Disney films to life in cardboard form.
The game shares a lot of similarities with Magic, chiefly that you have a resource – Ink in your Inkwell – that you use to summon iconic Disney characters, play items, and use special powers. But it has several advantages that I think make it way more approachable for people who aren’t super familiar with card games – while still being a blast for veterans like myself.
The first is that the new Into the Inklands set is only the game’s third expansion. While it does add an exciting new card type – Locations that your characters can visit, and that offer benefits for as long as you have them in play – the card pool is still very easy to wrap your head around.
Also, the recognizability of the Disney characters puts their abilities into context.
The Titans in Hercules are all about destroying Greece and Olympus, so it makes sense that they like to mess with Locations in Lorcana; there are famously 99 Dalmatian puppies (with mum and dad Perdita and Pongo making 101) so it makes sense that you can have 99 of them in your deck instead of the usual limit of four; and the Mousketeers are all about protecting Princess Minnie in the film, so, of course, they’d be Bodyguards who protect your other characters.
Lastly, Lorcana has simplified a few rules you might know from Magic. Rather than special cards you use for Ink, you can play most cards face down in your Inkwell to build up your resources – making deckbuilding way simpler. Plus, opponents can’t play cards on your turn, so you generally only have to worry about what’s on the table in front of you, especially hidden info that can disrupt your strategy for each turn.
If you’re looking to try the game out, a draft or sealed event at your local game store is an excellent way to start. Everyone only plays with the cards they open at the event so you don’t have to fret about someone stomping you with a deck they’ve dropped hundreds on.
Alternatively, a couple of starter decks can be a fun way to learn with a friend. They aren’t the most competitive, but they are well-balanced against each other and show off most of the core mechanics.
Star Wars: Unlimited
Lastly, if you feel three set releases are still too many then why not try Star Wars Unlimited? It has just launched its first-ever set. So if you go and play you’ll be just as much of a noob as anyone else there.
This also means this is the game I’m least familiar with – I’ve only played it once or twice – but so far it seems to be a blast.
It combines a few ideas already seen in this list – the familiarity of characters and locations, cards as your resource (here called Resources), and the Commander (here called a Leader, who’s paired with a Base of your choice) from Magic The Gathering. But there’s also a lot of freedom that satisfies the Unlimited name.

If Luke Skywalker is your Leader, you’re incentivized to play Heroism and Vigilance cards – aspects that fit his on-screen personality. But if you want to throw the odd Villainy or Aggression card in, you can embrace the Dark Side – albeit at a cost of more resources.
Because it’s so new, your local store will likely be running lots of beginner-friendly events. I’ve found store staff are generally very happy to help TCG newcomers get to grips with any of the options on this list (as well as others like Pokemon, Flesh and Blood, and One Piece), and they should be especially ready to aid you and others with this completely new release.
There’s also a Starter Kit on sale that comes with two decks and a bunch of handy cardboard and paper accessories so you and a friend can get up to speed on the new Star Wars Unlimited experience in your own time.
Mario Day, otherwise called MAR10 Day or just March 10, is upon us. This is the date to celebrate Nintendo’s iconic plumber. It’s not his birthday or anything, but rather a random day on the calendar that sort of looks like his name when spelled in a certain way. You know, like how Star Wars Day falls on May 4.
Still, Nintendo has been putting its corporate might behind the celebration since 2015, offering up Mario-themed experiences at the company’s official store, discounts on games and various contests. Retailers have also been following suit in recent years, marking down Nintendo products to coincide with March 10. With that in mind, here are the best deals for MAR10 that could very well elicit a “wahoo” or two.
Kris Naudus / Engadget
One of the marquee deals is for the Switch itself. There’s no actual discount on the console, but each purchase includes a $25 gift card from the retailer you bought it from. Participating retailers include Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop and Target and the promotion goes from March 10 through March 16. This deal applies to the OLED Switch, Nintendo’s latest and greatest console iteration, the original Switch and the Switch Lite. It’s the perfect way to catch up on Metroid Dread, Super Mario Wonder and, of course, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
There’s a major caveat here. The Switch is on its way out, with a replacement likely headed our way in the beginning part of next year, and we don’t know how long Nintendo intends to support the original hybrid console for after that. Still, the Switch has a massive back catalog worth exploring.
Speaking of that back catalog, many retailers are offering $20 discounts on a number of first-party Nintendo games. These include Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Party Superstars, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and more. This brings the price down to $40 per game. There’s also a cool bundle available that includes a tropical-themed Switch Lite and a digital copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons for $200, available at both Target and Walmart. It’s not part of the MAR10 festivities, but it’s a good deal nonetheless.
The company has also doubled the free trial period for Nintendo Switch Online, from seven days to 14 days. This lets people play online, as the name suggests, but also opens up its catalog of retro NES and SNES games. Switch owners have until March 17 to activate the trial and it’s even available to people who have already tried the service in the past.
Finally, there are some real-world events for Nintendo die-hards. There’s a meet-and-greet with Mario and Luigi at the Nintendo Store in New York City, complete with plenty of giveaways and a screening of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. GameStop is also doing in-person giveaways on March 16.
