Hands-On With iPad Pro in Space Black: Apple’s Thinnest Product Ever

There are two notable design changes for the new iPad Pro models introduced today: they are the thinnest Apple products ever released, and they are available in a new Space Black finish that debuted on the MacBook Pro last year.

Apple gave the media some hands-on time with the new iPad Pro models, and we have rounded up real-world photos and videos of the devices below.

The new 11-inch iPad Pro is just 5.3mm thick, and the 13-inch model is even thinner at 5.1mm.

There is also a new Magic Keyboard for the new iPad Pro models that features an aluminum palm rest and a larger trackpad. The keyboard is available in Black and White color options, which have Space Black and Silver palm rests, respectively.

Last, the new Apple Pencil Pro looks very similar to the second-generation Apple Pencil.

Trailer for The Big Cigar shows Black Panther FBI fakeout

Apple TV+ dropped the first trailer for The Big Cigar Wednesday. And it looks like so much fun I almost don’t want to know how true the “incredible true story” actually is.

The upcoming drama series tells the tale of Black Panther leader Huey P. Newton enlisting a Hollywood producer to fake out the FBI, providing cover for Newton’s escape to Cuba in 1974. That came after he jumped bail on murder and assault charges he called false.

The six-part series debuts May 17 with two episodes, followed by a new one each Friday through June 14, Apple TV+ said.

The Big Cigar trailer plays up wild Black Panther-FBI fakeout with Hollywood’s help

The six-episode drama The Big Cigar “tells the incredible true story of Newton’s escape to Cuba,” Apple TV said. André Holland stars as Newton. And before we go any further, “The Big Cigar” is the title of the fake movie production that aided Newton’s escape.

I say I don’t want to know how true to history the movie is for good reason. I’ve gotten into the habit lately of reading source material for Apple TV+ movies and shows. And sometimes that comes back to bite me.

An example would be when I read the book behind the Manhunt series about the chase for Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth. The way the show (understandably) tried to make the storytelling more visual by having august and asthmatic Secretary of War Edwin Stanton (Tobias Menzies) chase down perps and interrogate people all over the place drove me nuts. In reality, he ran the manhunt’s frantic operations from a telegraph room.

The Big Cigar‘s big story

Notably, The Big Cigar limited series is executive produced by NAACP Image Award winner Janine Sherman Barrois, Jim Hecht and Joshuah Bearman. And perhaps even more notably, multi-award winning actor/director/producer Don Cheadle directs and executive produces the first two episodes.

And whether or not it’s because of Cheadle’s influence, the series trailer feels like it’s for an Ocean’s Eleven-style caper movie. He played cockney-accented munitions expert Basher Tarr in that film.

Here’s the streamer’s description of the The Big Cigar:

Based on the magazine article of the same name by Joshuah Bearman (Argo), who also serves as executive producer, The Big Cigar tells the incredible true story of Hollywood revolution meeting social revolution. It’s a wild caper about Black Panther founder Huey P. Newton escaping from the FBI to Cuba with the assistance of famed producer Bert Schneider in an impossibly elaborate plan — involving a fake movie production — that goes wrong every way it possibly can.

Will the series pull off the caper, or will it turn out to be a silly mess? Hard to say just from the trailer for The Big Cigar.

The Bearman article appeared in Playboy in December 2012, but does not appear to be available online without subscription. Holland stars alongside Alessandro Nivola, Tiffany Boone, P. J. Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Moses Ingram, Rebecca Dalton, Olli Haaskivi, Jordane Christie and Glynn Turman.

And by the way, this 1977 Washington Post article about Newton’s return from Cuba to face charges is a pretty nifty time capsule.

Sherman Barrois (Claws, Self Made) serves as showrunner for The Big Cigar. Executive producer Hecht (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty) wrote the first episode. The series comes from Warner Bros. Television. Other executive producers are Bearman, Joshua Davis and Arthur Spector (Little America) through Epic.

The six-part series The Big Cigar debuts May 17 on Apple TV+ with two episodes, followed by a new one each Friday through June 14. Apple Vision Pro Owners Complain of Headaches, Neck Issues and Black Eyes

Some Apple Vision Pro owners have been dealing with health issues related to the wearing of the headset, according to a report from MarketWatch. The site spoke to Vision Pro owners experiencing headaches and neck pain, among other issues.

Emily Olman, marketing chief of Hopscotch Interactive, said she got two “superdark black eyes” after wearing the Vision Pro for the first time, likely caused by the weight on the cheeks. Ian Beacraft, CEO of consulting firm Signal, told MarketWatch that he had pain at the base of his skull and his upper back.

There have also been complaints about the Vision Pro on Reddit from users experiencing ongoing headaches, eye strain, and pain from the weight of the device. Some users have had luck with modified straps and third-party products, and other people have no issue with the headset and the default band options.

Apple declined to comment on the customer complaints, directing MarketWatch to its user guidelines. Apple recommends taking a break from the headset every 20 to 30 minutes during the acclimation period, and to stop using the headset when feeling unwell. Apple does not recommend that people experiencing eye strain, headache, or pain continue to use the device.

iPhone 16 Pro Could Come in New ‘Space Black’ and ‘Rose’ Colors

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models will come in new “space black” and “rose” titanium colors, claims a new rumor out of China.

According to a Weibo post shared by leaker ShrimpApplePro on X (Twitter), the Blue Titanium color that iPhone 15 Pro models are currently available in will be dropped from the iPhone 16 Pro lineup in favor of the new rose color. Meanwhile, “space black,” which is said to be similar to the iPhone 14 Pro color of the same name, will replace Black Titanium.

The rumor also claims that the Natural and White Titanium colors will be slightly different on the iPhone 16 Pro models. Natural Titanium is said to be returning, but with more of a gray tint to it. Meanwhile, White Titanium will appear more like a “silver white” color, which is also said to be similar to the silver version of the iPhone 14 Pro.

The Weibo user that is the source of the rumor has not previously been tracked by MacRumors. However, ShrimpApplePro claims that the account accurately predicted ahead of launch the Purple color that debuted with the iPhone 14 Pro.

Apple switched its “Pro” models from stainless steel to titanium with last year’s iPhone 15 Pro series. The iPhone 15 Pro comes in Black Titanium, White Titanium, Blue Titanium, and Natural Titanium, but Apple surprised by not offering a gold option. Gold was available through the ‌‌iPhone‌‌ 5S to the ‌‌iPhone‌‌ 8, and then on the ‌‌iPhone‌‌ XS to the ‌‌iPhone 14‌‌ Pro. Therefore the rumored new “rose” color could well be the titanium version of a gold-like shade.

This is the second rumor we have heard about the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌’s color options. Last month, the leaker known as “Majin Bu” claimed that the Pro models would be available in “Desert Titanium” and “Titanium Gray” color options, and those names suggest there could be some overlap with today’s rumored rose color and the tweaked Natural Titanium.

Apple TV+ unveiled a first look Thursday at The Big Cigar, an upcoming limited drama series starring André Holland as Black Panther leader Huey P. Newton. The show traces his wild escape from the FBI to Cuba.

The Big Cigar debuts on May 17 with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Friday through June 14. “It’s all true,” Apple TV+ said. “Mostly.”

According to Apple’s first look at The Big Cigar, it’s a six-episode drama based in strange-but-true reality. NAACP Image Award winner Janine Sherman Barrois serves as executive producer, along with Jim Hecht and Joshuah Bearman. Multi-award-winning actor, director and producer Don Cheadle directs and executive produces the first two episodes.

So the show “chronicles the story of Black Panther leader Huey P. Newton’s escape to Cuba, and is based on the monumental, eponymous magazine article of the same name.”

And if you’re unfamiliar with Newton, he was theAfrican American political activist who founded the Black Panther Party in 1966 with Bobby Seale in Oakland, California. Newton ran the group and its social programs. It ceased operations in 1982. He was murdered in 1989.
