Apple Vision Pro sales between 160,000 and 180,000

The Apple Vision Pro was made available to pre-order last Friday, the device retails for $3,500 and now we have some details on how many units of their new AR headset, Apple sold in its first weekend.

According to a recent report by respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple sold between $160,000 and $180,000 units of the new Apple Vision Pro, Apple sold put of their initial stock of the headsets in the first weekend. You can see the information on sales of the device from Ming-Chi Kyo below.

Based on pre-order inventory and shipping time, I estimated that Apple sold 160,000 to 180,000 Vision Pro units during the first pre-order weekend. As predicted, the Vision Pro sold out immediately after the pre-order opened, with shipping times for all models extending to 5–7 weeks within hours.

The instant sold-out and extended shipping times seem positive at first, but a key concern emerged: shipping times remained unchanged 48 hours after pre-orders opened. It indicates that demand may quickly taper off after the core fans and heavy users place their orders.

If these sale numbers are correct then Apple could ship around 500,000 units of the Apple Vision Pro which would be a good number of devices for such a new device, esp[ecially considering its much higher price tag of $3,500 when compared to devices like the iPhone.

If like me you were a little disappointed to learn that the Google Gemini demonstration released earlier this month was more about clever editing rather than technology advancements. You will be pleased to know that perhaps we won’t have to wait too long before something similar is available to use.

After seeing the Google Gemini demonstration  and the revelation from the blog post revealing its secrets. Julien De Luca asked himself “Could the ‘gemini’ experience showcased by Google be more than just a scripted demo?” He then went about creating a fun experiment to explore the feasibility of real-time AI interactions similar to those portrayed in the Gemini demonstration.  Here are a few restrictions he put on the project to keep it in line with Google’s original demonstration.

  • It must happen in real time
  • User must be able to stream a video
  • User must be able to talk to the assistant without interacting with the UI
  • The assistant must use the video input to reason about user’s questions
  • The assistant must respond by talking

Due to the current ability of Chat GPT  Vision to only accept individual images De Luca needed to upload a series of images and screenshots taken from the video at regular intervals for the GPT to understand what was happening. 

“KABOOM ! We now have a single image representing a video stream. Now we’re talking. I needed to fine tune the system prompt a lot to make it “understand” this was from a video. Otherwise it kept mentioning “patterns”, “strips” or “grid”. I also insisted on the temporality of the images, so it would reason using the sequence of images. The BMW Group Technology Office USA is celebrating 25 years in Silicon Valley with an invitation-only event featuring immersive workshops, exclusive technology demonstrations, and exciting mixed reality, multi-sensory driving experiences at Levi’s Stadium. The celebration will be highlighted by the North American debut of the BMW Vision Neue Klasse design concept and a panel discussion entitled “Humanizing Technology,” with insights from BMW Group Member of the Board of Management, Development, Frank Weber. Weber will be joined by Futurist, Neuroscientist & Technologist Poppy Crum, Head of Trust & Safety at Airbnb Naba Banerjee, and Head of Product at Meta for Work Micah Collins. Genesis has unveiled a new concept car, the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept and you won’t be able to drive this car on the road, it will be available exclusively in Gran Turismo 7 from January 2024.

The 2024 X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept embodies the most emotional expression of the Genesis brand’s characteristic Athletic Elegance design philosophy. The Concept was born from a design study that demonstrates Genesis’ passion and intent for the Vision Gran Turismo series.

Genesis X Gran Berlinetta

The design language of the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept is pure and muscular, with volumes centered around the wheels. Its design orchestrates the cab backwards proportions with Genesis’ typical anti-wedge attitude that is structured around a virtual parabolical tensioned theory, which is common to the Genesis model line-up. The package design maximises the dash-to-axle ratio while moving the driver and powertrain rearward for a lean mid-engine layout.

“Our goal was to create a timeless design rooted in the essence of motorsport,” said Genesis Chief Designer John Krsteski. “We have an incredibly diverse global design team that are car and racing enthusiasts. The designers relished the opportunity to create a race car that featured Genesis design.
