I’ve made no secret of my admiration for Edifier audio products in the past few years, but the streak couldn’t go on forever. But it’s not you, Edifier. It’s me, maybe. I blame my oversized head and clunky glasses for standing in the way of my affection for your sleek new Edifier Comfo Run sports headphones. I just couldn’t get the fit quite right for the best sound.
But I could see all sorts of athletes, and really anyone who prefers to keep earbuds and other objects out of their ear canals, loving these things. They work by air conduction.

Edifier Comfo Run Open Ear Wireless Sports Headphones
Edifier released its cool-looking Comfo Run Open Ear Wireless Sports Headphones in January 2024. They’re called “sports headphones,” but they seems closer to earbuds than traditional headphones. I’m a big fan of the company’s headphones, earbuds and speakers, generally.
Each earpiece attaches to a flexible loop that goes behind the neck. Each earpiece, with its big and powerful dynamic driver, loops over the ear and dangles at the ear canal’s opening, more or less. But if they came in a choice of sizes, I would have sized up.
Their design makes them comfortably secure, even during exercise. That’s what they’re for. I took them to the gym, went for walks, and stood up and sat down at my desk when I wasn’t pacing around in my apartment. They never seemed even close to falling off.
And naturally, Comfo Run aren’t noise-canceling headphones. That’s because of their open, air-conducting design. However, they are intended to reduce audio “leakage” through sound-direction technology, Edifier says.
Fit didn’t quite work for me
Plenty of lush sound comes from those 16.2 dynamic drivers. I just wish more of it went in my ears. Photo: David Snow/Cult of Mac
And that’s great, but Comfo Run headphones aren’t really for me. Even though they’re designed for everyone, including people who wear glasses and hats, I found them frustrating because of the fit. Essentially, not enough of their high-quality sound from those 16.2mm dynamic drivers got into my ears.
It was frustrating especially because I could tell great sound was there, but I only got enough of it when I pressed the ear pieces into a position they would not hold by themselves. So, too much sound leakage occurred, actually.
For the record, I have an exceedingly large head — finding a hat that fits comfortably is hard work — and a big neck, as well. Maybe that and my bulky eyeglasses are the problem when it comes to Comfo Run, maybe they’re not. I wondered if the elastic cord between the earphones needed to be slightly longer for me, or if a bit more adjustability in the ear loop would help keep the earphones from flaring away from my ear canals a bit too much.
In Edifier’s photos of athletes wearing the headphones, they look like they hang in the perfect position. Good for those sporty folks and their tiny little heads. It didn’t quite work that way for me, and it’s a shame, because they’re nice sport headphones. Their voice-call quality is quite good, too.
Clear and simple operation
Out of the box, Comfo Run headphones are easy to set up. I put them on a charger via their USB-A cable, which connects to the headphones magnetically (which is cool, but it also means you can only use that cable with these). Their Bluetooth connectivity is up to date, version 5.3.
I downloaded the app as instructed in the manual. At first I thought one of the two other Edifier apps I have on my iPhone 13 Pro would suffice, but nope. Now I have three (the new one is Edifier ConneX, plus Edifier Connect and Edifier Home). The Edifier ConneX app showed me battery capacity — 97% out of the box, very nice — and offered a couple of tweakable controls.
The two controls offered in the app are Sound effects and Game mode. Game mode is just an on-off option. Sound effects offers Classic and Bass boost options. I liked Bass boost on because it seems to goose the overall sense of volume. Edifier describes Classic as more balanced and Bass boost like this: “Deep, natural bass and strong vocals, clear and bright treble, suitable for jazz, rock and pop music, etc.” Fair enough. The app also has a pedometer you can turn on if you don’t track steps through an Apple Watch or other wearable.
The other mode of operation is, of course touch control on the headphones. The power button and up and down volume controls on either side of it each serve multiple functions through tapping and holding, like answering calls, adjusting volume, advancing tracks, etc. The functions work well, which is great if you use Comfo Run during exercise, when you don’t want to mess with your phone.
Edifier Comfo Run sports headphones features:
Open-ear design adds comfort and reduces sound leakage.
16.2mm dynamic drivers deliver smooth highs and deep bass.
Rated IP55 for dust, sweat and splash resistance.
17 hours of playtime and 15 minutes of fast charging equals 5 hours of use.
Choose EQ settings in the Edifier ConneX app.
Elastic, silicone-coated neckband allows a comfortable, secure fit.
80ms low latency enables smooth gaming audio.
More specifications:
Bluetooth V5.3
Bluetooth protocols: A2DP, AVRCP, HFP
Playtime: 17 hours
Fast charging: 15 minutes = 5 hours
Charging time: about 1.5 hours

16.2mm dynamic driver

So, what’s the bottom line? Runners and other athletes — especially those who don’t like anything in their ears — could love Edifier’s Comfo Run sports headphones. They’re just not really for me.
And because you can get 15% off at Amazon right now, they’re a good value. They normally cost $79.99, but you can grab them for $67.99.
These open-ear wireless headphones for exercise work through air conduction. They feature Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, built-in mic, 17 hours of playtime, fast charging, a built-in pedometer and IP55 sweat resistance.
Anker’s audio sub-brand Soundcore has very quietly launched a new pair of athletic earbuds known as the Sport X20. The company didn’t exactly roll out the red carpet for the devices as it made the announcement on Reddit. But they do appear to be worthy successors to the Sport X10. One of their main features is the adjustable ear hook. Made out of soft silicone, the hook can extend 4mm out and be rotated up to 30 degrees allowing you to create the perfect custom fit. They should maintain a good grip around your ear while also being comfortable to wear.
To ensure the Sport X20 can withstand the rigors of the gym, Soundcore designed their earbuds to be tough. They have a resistance rating of IP68 making them completely dustproof and able to survive blasts of water. As if that wasn’t enough, the company is equipping the devices with SweatGuard as an additional layer of protection against moisture. Soundcore describes this technology as a “submarine-inspired seal” defending the internal components from the outside. Behind the silicone tips are physical buttons for controlling audio content. The Amazon listing page states each button can be customized through the official Soundcore app.
Features
Inside the Sport X 20 are two 11 mm dynamic drivers capable of outputting rich audio thanks to the BassUp feature. It should give your music a nice bassy punch. Thanks to the aforementioned Soundcore app, you can tweak the level of output you receive. The earbuds sport HearID tech to analyze “your hearing profile” and make a “sound profile… perfect for you.” Of course, we can’t forget that the pair have adjustable active noise canceling (ANC) to keep you in the zone during those intense gym days. The ANC can adjust automatically via an onboard algorithm that will learn your listening habits over time or you can do it yourself via the mobile app.
Battery performance has been improved on the new model. Soundcore claims the buds last up to 12 hours on a single charge, and with the case, that number is bumped up to 48 hours. With ANC turned on, battery life drops down to seven hours and 28 hours with the case. Plus, they support fast charging. Plugging the Sport X20 in for five minutes gives you two hours of listening time.
Other notable features include six microphones for crystal clear calls and Bluetooth 5.4 Multipoint so you can jump between audio sources on the fly.
Availability
On the surface, the pair are similar to the Powerbeats Pro earbuds. The latter are also athletic products with a comfortable design, a long battery life, and impressive performance. However, not only does Soundcore’s model have ANC, but they’re much cheaper too.
The Sport X20 earbuds are currently on sale for $79.99 on Amazon. You can get them in either black or a minty green. News site NotebookCheck claims they’re available in the EU on Amazon as well, but when we checked, there was nothing. So we reached out to Anker for more information to see if their earbuds are present in other global regions.

Owen Wilson tees up in an upcoming Apple TV+ comedy series about golfers. Photo: Markus Spiske/Pixels
The list of comedies on Apple TV+ is expanding with one starring Owen Wilson as a washed up golf pro stepping up to coach a teen in the sport.
The series — which does not yet have a name — seems to have a lot on common with Ted Lasso, another sports-themed comedy that was an enormous success for Apple TV+.
Owen Wilson is the latest star given an Apple TV+ series
Ted Lasso followed a haplessly optimistic American football coach (played by Jason Sudeikis) who is recruited to lead an English soccer team. In his upcoming series, Owen Wilson plays a hapless golfer taking a try at coaching. The similarities are hard to miss.
“The comedy follows Pryce Cahill, an over-the-hill, ex-pro golfer whose career was derailed prematurely 20 years ago. After he gets fired from his job at an Indiana sporting goods store and his wife walks out on him, Pryce hedges his bets entirely on a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom.”
What makes the series interesting is, of course, its star. Owen Wilson is fresh off the successful run of Loki on Disney+. Before that, he was in Wedding Crashers and The Royal Tenenbaums.
The as-yet unnamed Apple TV+ show was created and written by Jason Keller (Ford v Ferrari). It will be directed by the team of Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris (Fleishman is in Trouble, Little Miss Sunshine, Battle of the Sexes).
Given that Apple TV+ just recently greenlit the series, Owen Wilson’s big premiere on Apple’s streaming service is many months away. Only time will tell if it can match the huge success of Ted Lasso.
Apple has taken a significant leap by introducing a new sports app that aims to redefine how sports enthusiasts engage with their favorite games. This innovative app is designed to cater to the needs of sports fans by providing real-time information, scores, and updates across a variety of sports teams and leagues. If you’re a sports fan looking for a convenient way to stay updated, you’ll be pleased to know that Apple’s latest offering could be exactly what you need, the video below from Zollotech gives us a run-through of the new Apple Sports App.
First and foremost, it’s essential to note that the Apple Sports app is exclusively available on the iPhone and requires iOS 17.2 or later. This initial rollout has been geographically limited to users in the United States, the UK, and Canada. While the reasons behind this selective availability remain unclear, it’s an important consideration for potential users outside these regions. At this stage, the app does not support iPad, Mac, or Vision Pro, narrowing its accessibility to iPhone users only.
Upon diving into the app, you’ll find that it allows users to personalize their experience by selecting their preferred leagues or teams. The app covers an impressive range of sports, including Major League Baseball (MLB), Major League Soccer (MLS), men’s college basketball, the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the National Hockey League (NHL). Although it currently lacks coverage for the National Football League (NFL) and Formula 1 (F1), Apple has assured that these will be included in future updates.
The real-time updates feature stands out, offering play-by-play breakdowns, team stats, and even betting odds. For users who prefer not to engage with betting, the app provides an option to hide this information, showcasing Apple’s consideration for user preferences.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the Apple Sports app is its design, which seems to offer a glimpse into the possible direction of iOS 18’s design philosophy. However, the app’s current version lacks intuitive gestures for navigation, such as swiping between sections. This design choice feels somewhat out of step with Apple’s renowned emphasis on user-friendly interfaces, suggesting there’s room for improvement in future versions.
Apple’s commitment to expanding the app’s sports coverage and enhancing its functionality is evident. The inclusion of NFL and F1 in the near future is a promising development for fans of these sports. Although the app is still in the early stages of its lifecycle, characterized by a minimalist design and limited features, it demonstrates significant potential for becoming a valuable resource for sports fans.
Apple’s new sports app is not just another addition to its suite of applications; it’s a testament to the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experiences. While it currently has its limitations in terms of scope, availability, and intuitive navigation, the app’s foundation is solid. Its focus on providing real-time sports updates in a user-friendly manner sets the stage for what could become an indispensable tool for sports enthusiasts around the globe. As Apple continues to refine the app and expand its features, users can look forward to an even more engaging and comprehensive sports viewing experience.
