Lenovo has taken the wraps off its sleek, lightweight, and power-packed ThinkPad P1 Gen 7.
The new laptop supports up to a Core Ultra 9 185H CPU and users can choose between integrated Intel Arc graphics, Nvidia RTX 1000/2000/3000 Ada Generation GPUs, or an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060/4070 GPU, allowing it to handle most AI processing needs.
The ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 is the first mobile workstation to come with LPDDR5x LPCAMM2 memory, with a capacity of up to 64GB. It can accommodate 2 x PCIe 4×4 M.2 2280 SSDs for up to 8TB storage.
Crafted from premium aluminum, the laptop comes with a 16-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, and narrow bezels providing a 91.7% screen-to-body ratio. Lenovo offers a choice of three displays – FHD+ IPS, QHD+ IPS, and UHD+ OLED Touch.
Connectivity comes in the form of Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3, and the laptop sports 2 x Thunderbolt 4 ports, 1 x USB-C (10Gbps), 1 x USB-A (5Gbps), an SD Express 7.0 card reader, HDMI 2.1, and an audio jack.
The new device features a liquid metal thermal design (in select configurations) which Lenovo says “enhances cooling performance and long-term reliability, catering to critical workflows when complex tasks require maximum performance for extended periods.”
Battery life is always important in laptops, and the ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 has a 90Whr customer replaceable unit.

Described by Nature as the “gilded cousin of Graphene”, Goldene is a one-atom-thick sheet of gold created by scientists from Linköping University (LiU) in Sweden.
It has unique properties that the researchers believe could pave the way for applications such as carbon dioxide conversion, hydrogen production, water purification, and communication.
Shun Kashiwaya, a researcher at the Materials Design Division at LiU, explains, “If you make a material extremely thin, something extraordinary happens. As with Graphene, the same thing happens with gold. As you know, gold is usually a metal, but if single-atom-layer thick, the gold can become a semiconductor instead.”
An accidental discovery
Historically, attempts to create single-atom sheets of gold have been hindered due to the metal’s propensity to lump together. However, the successful creation of Goldene was achieved via a century-old Japanese smithing technique called Murakami’s reagent, which etches away carbon residue. For this task the team used an oxidizing reagent.
To produce Goldene, the researchers used a three dimensional base material with layers of gold sandwiched between titanium and carbon.
There was an element of serendipity to the creation of Goldene however, as Lars Hultman, professor of thin film physics at LiU admits. “We had created the base material with completely different applications in mind. We started with an electrically conductive ceramics called titanium silicon carbide, where silicon is in thin layers. Then the idea was to coat the material with gold to make a contact. But when we exposed the component to high temperature, the silicon layer was replaced by gold inside the base material.”
The LiU researchers now plan to turn their attention to exploring whether other noble metals could undergo a similar process and yield yet more unimaginable applications.

Alongside the Galaxy A35, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy A55, its new mid-range phone. It is the company’s most premium-looking and feeling mid-range phone yet.
The Galaxy A55 features a metal frame, a powerful new processor, and some camera features usually found on premium Galaxy S series phones.
Galaxy A55 has a metal frame, Exynos 1480 chip with AMD GPU
Samsung has used a metal-and-glass body for the Galaxy A55. It is the first Galaxy A series phone to feature a metal frame, and its front and rear are covered by glass. As usual, this new mid-range Galaxy A phone features an IP67 dust and water resistance rating.
It has a 6.6-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, Vision Booster, and Gorilla Glass Victus. Its peak screen brightness can reach up to 1,000 nits under direct sunlight and even higher in HDR scenes. It has stereo speakers for a more immersive media consumption experience. The phone has an under-display optical fingerprint reader.
The 4nm Exynos 1480 processor powers the Galaxy A55. It has four high-performance Cortex-A78 CPU cores clocked at 2.75GHz, four power-efficient Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at 2GHz, and the Xclipse 530 GPU based on AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture. It is said to have a 15% faster CPU and a 32% faster GPU, so playing high-end games shouldn’t be an issue.
The phone has 8GB/12GB RAM and 128GB/256GB internal storage. It is the first Galaxy A series phone with up to 12GB RAM. A microSD card slot allows for further storage expansion.
Samsung is shipping the Galaxy A55 with Android 14-based One UI 6.1 pre-installed. The mid-range phone, like others from Samsung, will get four major Android OS updates and security updates for five years. It features Auto Blocker, Samsung Knox, and Samsung Knox Vault.
Galaxy A55 has Nightography camera with Super HDR videos
The Galaxy A55 has improved overall cameras. It has three cameras on the rear: a 50MP primary camera with OIS and autofocus, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 5MP macro camera. On the front, it has a 32MP selfie camera. The 50MP and 13MP cameras can record 4K 30fps videos with VDIS (EIS for video stabilization).
The advanced AI ISP inside the Exynos 1480 brings improved low-light images on a Galaxy A series phone for the first time. Thanks to Nightography, the Galaxy A55 also has Night Portrait mode. It is also the first Galaxy A phone with 12-bit Super HDR Video for a wider dynamic range and deeper colors.
The phone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and supports 25W fast charging. Its connectivity features include GPS, 5G, a dual-SIM card slot, eSIM, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. The phone will be available in four colors: Ice Blue, Green, Lilac, and Navy.
