The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max is 33 percent off for the Big Spring Sale

[ad_1]

If you’re looking for a way to turn any screen (including those in hotel rooms) into your own smart TV, you may be interested in this sale on a few Amazon streaming sticks. The discounts come as part of the company’s Big Spring Sale, underway now. One stick to call out is the Fire TV Stick 4K Max, which is down to $40 after a 33 percent discount. That matches the record low we saw for this latest model of Amazon’s most advanced streaming stick, a price it has hit a few times this year.

Amazon

Amazon’s most capable streaming stick is now 40 percent off as part of the Big Spring Sale.

$40 at Amazon

As the name indicates, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max supports 4K video, as well as Wi-Fi 6E, Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos audio. It has more internal storage than the Fire Stick 4K and quicker processor. It comes with an Alexa remote, which lets you find stuff to watch just by talking. Speaking of Alexa, a Fire TV stick also allows your screen to act as a smart home hub of sorts, letting you control your smart lights and check in on your connected cameras.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite is also included in the sale. We named that one the best budget pick in our guide to streaming devices and right now it’s down to $20, a 33 percent discount off the $30 price tag. That’s not an all-time low, we saw it dip to $15 for Prime Day in July. But if you don’t want to wait to see if Amazon discount it again this summer, this is perfectly respectable deal.

The Stick Lite a good way to get access to Amazon’s free content, which is extensive, plus the Fire TV OS interface does a fine job of looping in any streaming app you subscribe too (though it does heavily favor Amazon content). The stick even includes a voice remote. One thing the remote can’t do is control your TV’s on/off switch or adjust the volume. It also doesn’t support 4K video, but if you don’t have a super high-def screen anyway, that point is moot.

If you want even more free stuff to watch, you may want to check out our top pick for free and live content, the Roku Streaming Stick 4K. It’s on sale for 22 percent off, or $39, a price it sells for fairly often.

Alogic Clarity Max Touch Display Review

[ad_1]

Back at CES in January, Alogic introduced its new lineup of 32-inch 4K displays, following up on 27-inch models launched last year. I’ve now had some time to put the high-end Clarity Max Touch model from the 32-inch family through my daily grind, and I’ve found it offers some nice features for those looking for a larger canvas to work on.

alogic clarity max touch triple setup
To recap, there are three models in each of the 27-inch and 32-inch Clarity display lineups, with varying features. The base model in each is a fairly standard 4K display running at up to 60 Hz that can connect over USB-C, HDMI, or DisplayPort, and it includes a few extra USB-A ports on the rear to serve as a mini-hub for accessories that don’t demand too much in the way of power or data speeds.

The middle-tier model of each size adds a retractable 8-megapixel webcam at the top of the display, while the high-end models offer both the webcam and touchscreen support that works on Windows and Mac. For the 32-inch family, I’ve only tested the high-end Clarity Max Touch, but my observations should also apply to both the base Clarity Max and the mid-range Clarity Max Pro with the exception of those features that are exclusive to models at the higher end of the range.

Setup is quite easy, with a two-piece stand design that quickly goes together with a thumb screw and then clicks into the rear of the display. The stand is primarily made of silver aluminum, which offers sturdy support for the display with very little wobble. The stand offers both tilt and height adjustment, a welcome feature that costs extra on some displays such as the Apple Studio Display.

alogic clarity max touch portsalogic clarity max touch portsRear ports

With USB-C, HDMI, and DisplayPort connectivity options, you have an array of choices depending on your setup and you can connect additional devices like an Apple TV or game console thanks to the multiple inputs.

I hooked the Clarity Max Touch up to my 16-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Pro chip and generally used it in a triple-display setup with the Alogic display as my main monitor, a 27-inch LG 5K UltraFine display off to the left as a secondary display, and the MacBook Pro with its built-in display off to the right as a third screen. I tested with both HDMI and USB-C connections and settled on USB-C for the more seamless operation it offered.

My typical desk setup has included a pair of the 5K UltraFine displays, so I’ve been a bit spoiled by the high pixel density that allows for true Retina quality plus the tight integration with macOS such as support for volume and brightness adjustment right from my Magic Keyboard.

With a lower 4K resolution on a larger 32-inch screen, running the Clarity Max Touch at a Retina size of 1920×1080 isn’t a feasible option, as content appears far too large on the screen, which means you’re going to want to run it at a higher scaled resolution. I used the 3360×1890 option in macOS for a while but ultimately settled on the maximum 3840×2160 resolution. Content is a bit on the small side, but the benefits of having a huge 4K desktop make it worth it for me.

alogic clarity max touch soloalogic clarity max touch solo
Content certainly is not as sharp as on a Retina display, but when I run it as a full 4K desktop, the content is small enough on the screen that it’s not a major hindrance in my opinion. I’m not a high-level photo or video editor, so I’m not heavy into display calibration, but with testing only a few color profiles I was able to find one I was happy with. Depending on color profile, the display can pick up a bit of a pink tint as you move to more severe viewing angles, but as long as I was looking fairly straight-on as I normally would, I didn’t notice any color issues.

It’s worth noting that the Clarity Max lineup is one of the only display families I’m aware of to offer 32-inch glossy screens as opposed to the matte finishes more commonly found on this size of display. I’ve found the glossy screen on the Clarity Max Touch allows for good color reproduction, and while it can generate some glare depending on lighting angles, I already have a good desk arrangement that minimizes the issue so it hasn’t affected my use of the display.

The display does run at a maximum of only 60 Hz, so if you’re looking for higher refresh rates, you won’t find them here. But for my day-to-day usage that centers around web browsing and other productivity tasks, it’s perfectly fine. If you like portrait displays, the Clarity Max models easily rotate to vertical orientation and macOS makes it easy to adjust desktop rotation to match.

alogic clarity max touch portraitalogic clarity max touch portrait
If you connect any of the Clarity Max displays to your laptop via USB-C, the display can provide up to 65 watts of passthrough power to keep your computer charged up. That’s enough for most of Apple’s laptops, although 16-inch MacBook Pro models and higher-end 14-inch models may be able to exceed that limit. But unless you’re doing really heavy work, the display’s power output should be sufficient for most users, even if it may not be able to recharge a depleted battery as quickly as a more powerful charger.

The 8-megapixel retractable webcam remains hidden within the body of the display while not in use, and it automatically rises whenever an app such as FaceTime, Skype, or Zoom is opened and the display’s webcam is selected in the app’s settings. The camera automatically retracts when the app is closed or a different camera is selected in the app’s settings.

alogic clarity max touch cameraalogic clarity max touch cameraCamera activated

My test unit did ship with a bug that prevented the webcam from retracting once the app requiring it was closed, but a simple firmware update fixed the issue for me and Alogic says units shipping now should come with that firmware pre-installed.

I found the camera quality to be solid, and even a step up from most integrated cameras I’ve seen in other displays, although it won’t be able to match the quality when using an iPhone via Continuity Camera or other higher-end standalone options. While the built-in camera does have some limitations for adjusting the field of view, there is a manual wheel on the rear of the camera housing that allows you to vertically adjust the angle of the camera within the housing to optimize it for your sitting position.

It’s worth noting that a motorized retractable webcam is a feature that introduces another place for potential failure in the device, but for privacy-minded folks, it’s a nice feature that guarantees the camera can’t be remotely activated without your knowledge.

alogic clarity max touch retractedalogic clarity max touch retractedCamera retracted

Power, volume, and on-screen display settings are controlled by a set of buttons on the bottom right edge of the display. It makes for a clean design, although it takes some time to get used to their location and which button does what. The five buttons all feel quite similar to the touch, so you need to make sure you’re hitting the right ones as you reach under the display.

Turning to the touchscreen functionality available only on the top-end Clarity Max Touch model, it’s essentially identical to the functionality I described in my review of the 27-inch model. It requires installation of several drivers and apps to control the Mac functionality, and while the apps do not offer a native macOS feel, they do support an impressive array of customizability options for the touchscreen feature.

alogic updd touch gesturesalogic updd touch gesturesTouch gesture setup

The UPDD Commander app lets you customize various touch options for defaults as well as on a per-app basis, with features like one-finger tap, press, drag, and edge swipe, two-finger tap, drag, pinch, rotate, edge swipe, three-finger tap and swipes, and five-finger pinch expand gestures all supported. The array of gestures can make for an iPad-like experience on a large display in front of you, but my arm does quickly tire if I try to do more than short bursts of touch activity. Some users may also be reluctant to get fingerprints and other smudges on their glossy display, although that wasn’t an issue for me with my occasional touchscreen usage and my lighting angles.

alogic updd touch gestures options zoomalogic updd touch gestures options zoomTouch gesture options

Beyond the basic gesture configuration, you can also tweak an array of other settings such as the time limit for a double tap interval, the minimum time for a press gesture versus a tap gesture, the radius around your touch point that the system will look for a clickable UI element, and more.

alogic updd touch settingsalogic updd touch settingsAdditional touch settings

If you need precise control such as for drawing apps, you can use a non-capacitive active stylus (an Apple Pencil won’t work), and for those looking for an ergonomic display stand to bring the Clarity Max Touch into a better orientation for drawing, Alogic offers a Clarity Fold Stand sold separately for $200.

The touchscreen functionality doesn’t turn my Mac into a full touch experience, but I do sometimes find it convenient to just flick the screen to scroll long web pages, use a three-finger swipe to access Mission Control, or use the five-finger pinch expand gesture to get to my desktop. Pinch and rotation gestures are also helpful with some image manipulation tasks.

Wrap-up

The base Clarity Max model is priced at $999.99, while the Clarity Max Pro with retractable webcam is priced at $1,199.99 and the top-of-the-line Clarity Max Touch with webcam and touchscreen capabilities is priced at $1,399.99, but Alogic’s sale currently knocks 20% off of those prices with coupon code ALG20.

Overall, I’ve found the 32-inch Clarity Max Touch to be a solid display if your setup and workflows are compatible with a larger 4K display. The high-end model is on the pricier side of things, but it does come with some extras with the motorized retractable webcam and the touchscreen capabilities and the current sale brings the pricing down quite a bit. And if you don’t need one or both of those features, you can step down to one of the cheaper models.

With any of the three models, you get a large desktop canvas on a glossy display, quality construction, a clean design, good connectivity options, and the flexibility of tilt and height adjustments including the ability to swivel the display to a portrait orientation. I do miss the Retina sharpness of my 27-inch 5K LG UltraFine display and the tight macOS integration it offers, but the LG is one of only a few options to offer those features and not at a 32-inch size.

Note: Alogic provided MacRumors with the Clarity Max Touch display for the purposes of this review. No other compensation was received. MacRumors is an affiliate partner with Alogic. When you click a link and make a purchase, we may receive a small payment, which helps us keep the site running.

Annual subscriptions to Max are currently 40 percent off

[ad_1]

If you’re ready to commit to a year of Max, you can do so for a 40 percent discount. Right now, every tier of the streaming service is on sale — that includes the ad-free, 4K version for $140 annually, which works out to $12 per month instead of the regular $20 monthly. The least expensive sub is ad-supported and goes for $70 yearly, or $5.83 per month as opposed to $10. Between the two is an ad-free level without 4K support that’s going for $105 for the year, when you’d usually pay $192 for 12 months.

Max

Annual subscriptions are currently 40 percent off for new and some existing subscribers.

$70 at Max

The deal is open to all new subscribers. Existing subscribers who buy their service direct from Max.com can also take advantage. If you’re a returning subscriber and previously went through Max.com, the Apple App Store or Google Play, you can also get the discount. Unfortunately, only new subscribers via Fire TV are eligible. The timing of the deal is tied to March Madness promotions, as Max will stream all 2024 Division I NCAA men’s basketball championship games live, along with other live sports.

For those who don’t remember, Max is the name given to the streaming service that combines HBO’s programming with Discovery+ content. While the name may be less memorable, the smooshing of the two services means more content to peruse — from brands like HGTV and Food Network — in addition to fine HBO fare like The Last of Us and True Detective. It’s also where you can find Studio Ghibli films and A24 movies. Plus Our Flag Means Death, though canceled, was fantastic. There’s a reason we named Max one of the best streaming services out there.

Brilliant mod makes iPhone 15 Pro Max match Vision Pro

[ad_1]

iPhone 15 Pro Max Vision is a version of Apple’s premier handset modified so it matches the look of the Vision Pro AR headset. It’s from Dubai-based Caviar, and is actually a beautiful option for someone who uses both devices.

But buyers will need deep pockets. The modification adds tremendously to the cost of the iPhone.

And you have to see Caviar’s crazy mod that turns Samsung S24 Ultra into a Tesla Cybertruck.

iPhone 15 Pro Max Vision is gorgeous but pricy

Caviar is a luxury brand known for its over-the-top versions of Apple products. Some of these are a bit silly, like one that celebrates Russian President Vladimir Putin, and another embedded with a thread from one of Steve Jobs’ signature black turtleneck sweaters.

Caviar details the Vision Pro-like elements in its iPhone 15 Pro mod.
Dubai-based luxury brand Caviar details the Vision Pro-like elements in its high-end custom iPhone 15 Pro.
Photo: Caviar

But the iPhne 15 Pro Max Vision is a clever idea that’s well executed. Caviar took design elements from Apple’s new AR headset and brought them to the iPhone.

The owners of Apple Vision Pro are offered to choose a custom smartphone that will complement their headset,” says Caviar. “The design features unique elements – color accents, smooth lines of Apple Vision Pro, imitation of the lower panel, recognizable texture of the headset.”

Just so there’s no confusion, the modifications don’t add any functionality to the handset. The changes are cosmetic. Also, Caviar isn’t offering a case. It modifies the actual iPhone 15 Pro Max with a chassis of its design.

That’s part of the reason why the iPhone 15 Pro Max Vision starts at $8,060. It can be ordered today on the Caviar website.

Samsung S24 Ultra Cybertruck is just crazy

Caviar modded a Samsung S24 Ultra smartphone to look like a Tesla Cybertruck
If you thought an iPhone with Vision Pro design elements was strange, wait till you see a Samsung S24 Ultra modded to look like a Tesla Cybertruck.
Photo: Caviar

While the iPhone mod is bold and daring, the design Caviar created to merge Samsung’s premier Android smartphone and a Tesla Cybertruck is just coo-coo crazy pants.

The company realizes the design is unusual, calling it a “fantastic novelty.” Caviar describes it as “a mini version of Tesla Cybetruck made on the Samsung S24 Ultra chassis.”

As noted, sometimes Caviar’s designs stray over the line into being too over the top. This Android model flies over that line riding a flaming motorcycle while holding two American flags and jumping 17 school buses.

Prices start at $8,770 on the Caviar website.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max is back down to $40, plus the rest of this week’s best tech deals

[ad_1]

As another week winds to an end, we’ve put together another roundup of the best tech deals we could find on devices and gadgets Engadget has tried and recommends. Right now a Marshall Bluetooth speaker with good sound and an impressive waterproof rating is $64 cheaper. Our favorite budget robo vac, the Roomba 694 is 35 percent off. And early Mar10 sales have trimmed the prices of a few games staring Mario and his friends. Other deals include sale prices on Bluetooth trackers, a portable projector, a two-pack of Sonos speakers and an Backbone iPhone 14 gamepad. Here are the best tech deals from this week that you can still get today.

Amazon

The latest version of the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max is on sale for $40. That’s a 33 percent discount and matches the record-low it hit for Black Friday. It goes for $60 at full price, but regularly sells for $45, so this is about $5 less than that going rate.

It’s Amazon’s more advanced stick, with support for 4K video, Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and Wi-Fi 6E. In addition to FireTV, it also lets you control your connected smart home devices via Alexa.

The sales comes as part of a larger sale on a number of Amazon streaming devices, from sticks to actual televisions. That includes the Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite which is now down to $20 at both Amazon and at Target. We named it the budget pick in our list of the best streaming devices.

$40 at Amazon

Marshall

The Marshall Middleton Bluetooth speaker is down to $236 at Amazon. That’s a 21 percent discount and even beats the previous low of $260 it hit last December. B&H Photo is also selling it at a discount, but at $250, it’s not a steep as Amazon’s savings.

The Middleton made our list of the best bluetooth speakers because it combines good sound quality with a IP67 rating. It’s dust-tight and can survive a dip in a meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

This is Marshall’s flagship Bluetooth speaker — and the company’s largest portable with a waterproof rating. It has a 20-hour run time and puts out sound forom two 15-watt woofers, two 10-watt tweeters and a pair of passive radiators. It also supports Stack Mode which lets you pair up with another Middleton, the smaller Willen or the Emberton II speaker, which is also named in our guide and is also on sale. It’s 21 percent off and down to $134.

$236 at Amazon

Sonos

A two-pack of Sonos Era 100 speakers is currently $88 off at Woot. We saw the same deal a couple weeks ago. That makes the set just $410. That puts it close to the Black Friday price from last year, when they hit $199 individually.

The Sonos Era 100 is our current pick for the best midrange smart speaker. The sound quality is impressive and the Trueplay uses built-in mics to tune itself for the optimal output wherever you happen to put it.

$410 at Woot

Nintendo

Each year, in honor of Mar10 Day, aka March 10, retailers sell many Mario games at a discount. And right now, Amazon, Best Buy and Nintendo itself are hosting sales on a few of the older titles for between 20 and 30 percent off. Most of the discounts aren’t new all-time lows, but if you’re looking to grab a few Mario games, like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, this could be a good time to save. Keep an eye out on Sunday when even more deals go live.

$40 at Amazon

iRobot

The iRobot Roomba 694 is back down to $180 Amazon, which isn’t the lowest price we’ve tracked — it went down to $160 at the beginning of the year. But it’s still a decent 35 percent discount on the bot we named the best budget robot vacuum you can buy.

It’s not the most fully featured vac on the market. It doesn’t self-empty or have mopping capabilities but we found it to excel at cleaning floors and its companion app is easy to navigate, especially for people new to these machines.

$180 at Amazon

Sony Interactive Entertainment

Samsung

Photo by Mat Smith / Engadget

Backbone’s Lightning-based version of the One smartphone gamepad is down to $70 at Amazon, Best Buy, Target and its own online store. That’s not an all-time low, but it’s $30 off the going rate. The sale applies to the black and the PlayStation-branded white version. Either will work with the same with iPhones that have a Lightning port, letting you stream games from Xbox or PlayStation, or play games that have more complex controls than touchscreen inputs can handle. We named it one of the best gaming accessories you can buy for an iPhone.

$70 at Amazon

Engadget

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 is on sale at Walmart for $229 right now. It’s been hovering at around $235 at various retailers for a while now, so this is a bit cheaper than that and $70 off the full retail price. This is the 40mm model with Bluetooth (not LTE) connectivity.

It’s our pick for the best smartwatch watch for Android users and earned an 84 in our review when it came out last September.

If you’re looking for the Galaxy Watch that brought back the spinning bezel, that’s the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic and it’s 15 percent off at Amazon and going for $340 in the 43mm, Bluetooth configuration.

$229 at Walmart

Photo by Amy Skorheim / Engadget

The Chipolo ONE is our top pick in our guide to the best Bluetooth trackers and right now you can get a four-pack directly from Chipolo for $60. That’s 40 percent off the list price of $25 each.

We like these keyring finders because they’re loud — far noisier than Apple’s AirTags. Plus these have a hole in them so you don’t need to buy an accessory to attach them to your stuff. These will also work with either Androids or iPhones, though they don’t have the largest community finding network.

Still, they’ll help you find your keys, bag, jacket or whatever else you attach them to by ringing them through the app. And if you have the tracker, but not your phone, you can double squeeze it to make your phone ring. They also alert you when you’ve left your tagged items behind, making sure you never run out the door or leave the coffee shop without the items you’ve deemed important enough to tag.

$60 at Chipolo

Sony

Sony’s WH-1000XM4 wireless headphones are $100 off right now at Amazon and from Adorama, making them just $248. These are the previous generation of our current top pick for wireless headphones, the WH-1000XM5, which currently retail for $400.

We gave the WH-1000XM4 a score of 94 when they first came out in 2020. They’re comfortable enough to wear for many hours and the battery life will keep up, going for 30 hours on a single charge.

The ANC is powerful enough to block out most of the noise around you so you can focus on the immersive sound these headphones offer.

$248 at Amazon

Beats

The Beats Studio Buds + are back down to $130 after a 24 percent discount. That matches the price we saw last Black Friday.

We gave the Beats Studio Buds + a score of 84 in our review last May. The audio and battery life are big improvements over the previous generation and the onboard controls are more reliable. Plus the transparent color option is eye-catching. Unfortunately the buds sound still isn’t as good as other buds in its class and the ambient mode, which lets you tune into the world around you as you listen to music, isn’t as impressive as it is on AirPods.

$130 at Amazon

NEBULA

The Anker Nebula Solar HD portable projector is seeing a 46 percent discount off its current list price at Amazon. That makes it $250 and matches the previous low. We mention the Nebula Solar in our buyer’s guide to projectors as a runner-up budget option because you get a lot of features for the price.

It’s reasonably bright at 400 lumens and the battery is included — some projectors make you buy the battery separately. It has built-in speaker and connects to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. You can also plug things in via the HDMI and USB ports. It can also mirror content from your phone using Miracast. It’ll project an image of up to 120 inches and has a built-in stand to help you adjust the angle.

$250 at Amazon

Xbox

Right now the Dream Vapor special edition Xbox controller is on sale for $58 instead of the $70 list price. That’s a 17 percent discount and the lowest price we’ve seen since the bowling ball-inspired controller first came on the market this January.

The wireless controller is basically the standard Xbox controller, but with cooler patterns. It should sqeeze about 40 hours of gameplay from two AA batteries and supports custom button mapping and textured trigger and bumpers.

If all you need is an extra gamepad, the standard models in black and white are 25 percent off the list price and down to $45 at Microsoft and the white model is $45 at Amazon.

$58 at Amazon

Blink

Prime members can get a five-pack of Blink Outdoor 4 cameras for $200. That’s a 50 percent discount and the lowest price we’ve seen for the set. If you just want one camera, you can grab a single Blink Outdoor 4 for $65, which is still a healthy 46 percent discount and a record-low.

The Blink Outdoor 4 is our pick for the best wireless outdoor security camera. Compared with previous models, it has a wider field of view (at 143 degrees on the diagonal), enhanced motion detection and, according to Amazon, better image quality and low light functionality. There’s also person detection available to those who take out the Blink Subscription Plan, which includes features such as cloud storage for video clips. Otherwise, you can save video locally by buying a Sync Module 2 separately and connecting a USB storage drive.

Save $200 with Prime membership

$200 at Amazon

Samsung

Samsung’s 32-inch M80C smart monitor is on sale for 46 percent off, bringing it down to $300 from it’s $700 list price. That matches it’s lowest price ever, which we saw last December.

The M80C combines a 4K monitor, smart TV, mini computer and smart home controller into one. Samsung’s Tizen OS gives you access to any streaming service you may have and Samsung TV Plus gives you access to more shows for free. You can also access on-demand gaming platforms, like Xbox Cloud Gaming and NVIDIA GeForce Now.

As for productivity, you can access Microsoft Office 365 and the camera up top lets you take Zoom and Google Meet meetings. And finally, it puts all your smart home controls together with the Samsung SmartThings app, letting you turn off compatible lights and view feeds from connected cameras. Before you grab it for that purpose, however, just make sure your smart home equipment works with Samsungs IoT hub.

$400 at Amazon

Sony

The Sony HT-A7000 usually sells for between $1,189 and $1,400. But now it’s dropped back to the low it hit for Black Friday last year. That’s a 29 percent discount on our favorite premium soundbar

It’s a Dolby Atmos soundbar that puts out excellent 7.1.2 audio thanks to Sony’s 360 Sound Mapping, Sound Field Optimization, vertical surround technology and S-Force Pro front surround. That sounds like a lot of fancy terms, but we would just note that it all adds up to nuanced sound that feels immersive, making it a great option for gamers. It has a built in subwoofer, but if you need more deepth, any of Sony’s models pair up easily.

$998 at Amazon

Engadget

Amazon’s smart plug is currently $5 off the list price. That’s not an all-time low — it went for $15 for Black Friday and $13 for October’s Prime Day. But if you’re looking for a way to control a lamp automatically or by asking Alexa, this one works well.

Of course, it only works with Alexa, so if you’ve already brought an Echo into your home, this makes a good addition. We named the plug the best pick for people invested in Amazon’s smart home ecosystem because it pairs more or less automatically, reliably follows the schedules you set and responds to commands.

OnePlus 12 vs iPhone 15 Pro Max (Video)

[ad_1]

OnePlus 12

In the ever-evolving landscape of high-end smartphones, two giants stand out for their remarkable performance and cutting-edge technology: the OnePlus 12 and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. As you navigate through the myriad of options in the market, understanding the nuances of these two models becomes crucial. This article aims to shed light on the speed and battery performance of these devices, guiding you through a detailed comparison.

Speed Test Showdown

At the heart of the OnePlus 12 lies the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, complemented by a robust 16 GB of RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. This powerhouse setup is designed to handle heavy processing tasks with ease. On the other side, the iPhone 15 Pro Max boasts the A17 Pro chip and NVMe storage, running on the seamless iOS 17. When it comes to speed, both phones start on equal footing, showcasing their prowess in app loading and basic processing tasks.

However, the OnePlus 12 slightly pulls ahead in photo processing and exporting tasks, thanks to its high-end specifications. Despite this, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is not far behind. It shines particularly in gaming, where it eventually overtakes its competitor. The iPhone completes the speed test with a slim lead, clocking in at 2 minutes and 8 seconds, against the OnePlus 12’s 2 minutes and 16 seconds.

Battery Performance Battle

Battery life is a critical aspect for users who depend on their smartphones for extended periods. The OnePlus 12 brings a 5,400 mAh battery to the table, significantly larger than its counterpart. This size difference sets the stage for an intense battery life showdown. In the initial phases of the test, the OnePlus 12 demonstrates its efficiency, leading in phone calls, messaging, and web browsing tasks.

Its prowess continues across various tasks, including YouTube viewing and gaming, where it maintains its lead over the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Despite the iPhone’s renowned optimization, the OnePlus 12 emerges victorious in the battery life test, lasting a remarkable 28 hours and 9 minutes. This not only surpasses the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s previous record but also establishes the OnePlus 12 as the new champion of battery life.

Balancing Speed with Stamina

The showdown between the OnePlus 12 and the iPhone 15 Pro Max reveals that both devices offer exceptional performance in their respective fields. How to Reset Your AirPods, AirPod Pro, and AirPods Max

Reset Your AirPods

Within the vast and evolving landscape of wireless audio technology, Apple’s AirPods have distinguished themselves as a benchmark for effortless connectivity and superior audio performance. These iconic earpieces, ranging from the original AirPods with their minimalist design to the advanced noise-canceling AirPods Pro, and extending to the luxurious over-ear AirPods Max, have not only captured the market but also the hearts of audiophiles and everyday users alike. However, despite their cutting-edge functionality and design, there may come a time when you encounter the need to reset your AirPods.

The reasons for undertaking such a step are varied and can range from basic troubleshooting efforts, to preparing your beloved device for resale, or even addressing those occasional but frustrating connectivity issues that can mar the user experience. Whatever your reason may be, the process of resetting your AirPods to their original factory settings need not be a daunting task. This guide is designed to navigate you through the necessary steps to efficiently restore your AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max to their pristine condition, ensuring that you’re equipped to enjoy a clean slate with your device.

Resetting AirPods and AirPods Pro

Before embarking on the reset journey, it’s crucial to ensure that the iOS or iPadOS device you’ve paired your AirPods with is updated to the latest version. This step is often overlooked but is essential for a smooth reset process.

  1. Unpair Your AirPods: Start by placing your AirPods in their charging case and give them a 30-second timeout. This brief period allows the devices to disconnect properly. Next, navigate to your device’s settings to ‘forget’ the AirPods, effectively unpairing them from your device.
  2. The Reset Process: With your AirPods snug in their case and the lid open, locate the setup button on the back of the case. Press and hold this button for approximately 15 seconds. You’ll know the reset is successful when the status light flashes amber before turning white. This light show indicates that your AirPods are ready to pair with a new device.

Resetting AirPods Max

The AirPods Max reset process shares similarities with its in-ear counterparts but with a few tweaks.

  1. Charge and Unpair: Ensure your AirPods Max have a bit of charge before starting the reset process. Like the AirPods and AirPods Pro, the first step involves unpairing the headphones from your device through the settings menu.
  2. The Reset Ritual: Hold down the Noise Control button and the Digital Crown simultaneously for about 15 seconds. Watch for the LED to flash amber and then white, signaling a successful reset.

Why Reset?

Resetting your AirPods can resolve a myriad of issues, from connectivity problems to glitchy performance. It’s also a necessary step before passing your AirPods on to a new owner, ensuring all your personal settings and data are wiped clean. This process returns the AirPods to their original state, ready to create a new bond with another device.

Guidance Throughout the Process

It will undoubtedly bring a sense of relief to learn that the procedure for resetting your AirPods, whether they are the standard AirPods, the noise-cancelling AirPods Pro, or the luxurious over-ear AirPods Max, is remarkably uncomplicated and user-friendly. For those pondering the best approach to guarantee a seamless reset process, it is advisable to ensure that your devices are sufficiently charged and that the software on your iOS or iPadOS devices is up to date. By adhering to the detailed instructions previously provided, you will be able to smoothly and efficiently execute the reset process, positioning your devices to be fully prepared for any future use or requirements.

This action, whether it’s undertaken as a part of troubleshooting efforts, in preparation for selling your device, or simply as a means to rejuvenate your listening experience, stands as a straightforward yet profoundly effective strategy. By following the outlined steps, you are taking a decisive step towards ensuring that your AirPods remain in excellent condition, poised to continue providing the unparalleled audio quality and immersive listening experience that Apple is celebrated for. This reset not only revitalizes your devices but also reaffirms your commitment to maintaining the high standards of functionality and enjoyment that come with owning Apple’s prestigious audio products.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

When it comes to choosing a flagship smartphone, the decision can be as varied as the devices themselves. The recent video from Nick Ackerman offers a thorough comparison and speed test among three leading contenders: the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, and the Google Pixel 8 Pro. This article delves into the nuances of each device, providing you with the insight needed to make an informed choice.

Boot-up Speed: A Quick Start

If you value quick access from the moment you press the power button, you’ll be interested to know that the Google Pixel 8 Pro leads the pack with the fastest boot-up time. It edges out the iPhone 15 Pro Max slightly, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra trails as the slowest to spring to life. This initial difference sets the stage for a competitive showdown across various performance metrics.

Smooth Operation: Software Fluidity

All three smartphones offer a seamless interaction with their respective operating systems. Notably, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro Max shine in this area, thanks to their high refresh rates and powerful processors that ensure everything from scrolling to switching apps feels effortlessly smooth.

App Launching Speed: The Race to Open

When it comes to launching applications, the battle is evenly matched, with each device showcasing strengths in different areas. The iPhone 15 Pro Max tends to launch games with remarkable speed, a testament to its optimized software and hardware synergy. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Google Pixel 8 Pro demonstrate prowess in quickly opening basic applications, making them versatile for everyday tasks.

Gaming Performance: The Play-Off

For gaming aficionados, both the iPhone and Samsung offer compelling experiences, closely matched in their performance, with Samsung slightly outpacing in certain tests. The Pixel 8 Pro, while still a strong contender, doesn’t quite match up due to its less potent chipset, indicating that it may not be the first choice for hardcore gaming.

RAM Management: Keeping Up with Multitasking

In the realm of multitasking, all three devices exhibit excellent RAM management, essential for keeping apps running smoothly in the background. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra slightly outperforms its rivals, showcasing its ability to retain a multitude of apps in memory without a hitch.

Heat Management and Efficiency: Staying Cool Under Pressure

Extended gaming sessions and heavy app usage can generate significant heat, but the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra stands out for its exceptional heat management. This capability ensures that the device maintains optimal performance without significant throttling, making it a solid choice for power users.

Final Verdict: Tailoring to Your Preferences

  • Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Lauded as a powerhouse, this device excels in performance, camera quality, and features, making no compromises for those seeking the best.
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max: For enthusiasts of iOS, this phone offers unparalleled performance and a fluid user experience, backed by a robust ecosystem.
  • Google Pixel 8 Pro: Highlighted for its superior camera and AI features, along with a comfortable design, it presents great value. However, it may not satisfy those with a penchant for heavy gaming or the most intensive tasks.

Choosing between the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and Pixel 8 Pro ultimately boils down to individual preferences regarding operating systems, performance requirements, and specific features like camera capabilities and AI innovations. Each device brings its strengths to the table, catering to different user needs and preferences. Whether you prioritize software smoothness, gaming prowess, or multitasking efficiency, this comparison provides a foundation to guide your decision, ensuring you select a smartphone that aligns with your lifestyle and tech expectations.

Samsung Galaxy S24

When choosing a new smartphone, battery life is often a deal-breaker. With the release of the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, tech enthusiasts and everyday users alike are eager to know which device can keep up with their busy lives. Luckily, a recent real-world battery drain test offers some clear insights. The video below from ZoneofTECH compares the two flagship devices and reveals which phone keeps ticking longer under the same usage conditions.

In the video, the showdown began with both smartphones fully charged. As the day kicked off with an Uber ride, it was noted that the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra’s battery started to dip slightly faster than the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s. This early stage of the test set the tone for a day filled with various digital demands.

One of the first rigorous tests involved streaming an episode on Netflix. Here, users would be pleased to know that while the iPhone provided a more vibrant viewing experience, both phones exhibited similar battery depletion rates during this phase. This segment of the test highlighted not only the efficiency of the devices’ batteries but also the quality of their displays.

As the day progressed, the battery levels of both the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra decreased, albeit at different rates. High-demand activities such as video recording and using navigation apps at Liverpool’s landmarks took a noticeable toll on the devices’ battery lives. Interestingly, there were moments when the Samsung pulled ahead in terms of battery longevity, showcasing its resilience during intensive use.

After a full day of capturing photos, navigating, streaming, and even gaming on the return train ride, the results were in. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra managed to outlast the iPhone 15 Pro Max by approximately 50 minutes. Drop Test: Galaxy S24 Ultra vs iPhone 15 Pro Max (Video)

Galaxy S24 Ultra vs iPhone 15 Pro Max

In the quest for the most durable flagship smartphone, the latest video from Phone Buff throws the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro Max into the ring for a comprehensive drop-test showdown. This comparison not only showcases the resilience of each device under extreme conditions but also introduces us to the cutting-edge features designed to enhance their durability. Let’s delve into the details, armed with an engaging and informative tone, to understand how these technological marvels stack up against the rigorous demands of everyday accidents.

Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Durability Enhancements:

The Galaxy S24 Ultra steps onto the battlefield boasting significant upgrades aimed at fortifying its resilience. With the integration of Corning’s Gorilla Glass Armor adorning both its front and back, coupled with a robust titanium frame—a departure from the traditional aluminum—this device promises an improved defense against drops. Additionally, its flat display design is not just a stylistic choice but a strategic one, potentially enhancing its impact resistance.

The Rigorous Drop Test Phases:

The drop test is meticulously designed to simulate real-world accidents, from slips out of pockets to the unfortunate face-down falls. Here’s how the two titans fared:

  1. Backdrop Drop Test: Both devices faced their first challenge, landing back-first onto the ground. Despite the Galaxy’s new Gorilla Glass Armor, it suffered more visible damage compared to the iPhone’s less shattered rear. This round saw the iPhone taking a slight lead in durability.
  2. Corner Drop Test: The drop from the corner posed a test to the structural integrity of the phones’ titanium frames. Both phones emerged with minimal damage, a testament to their sturdy build. However, the Galaxy’s S Pen’s escape act, though easily rectified, and the iPhone’s slightly deteriorating rear glass, resulted in a draw for this round.
  3. Face Drop Test: A heart-stopping moment for any smartphone owner, the face drop resulted in both front glasses succumbing to cracks. The Galaxy’s fingerprint scanner and selfie camera functionality were compromised, while the iPhone sustained lesser damage, keeping its face ID and selfie camera operational. The iPhone secures a win here for maintaining more of its functionality.
  4. Bonus Round – The Steel Confrontation: In a grueling 10-drop test on steel, both smartphones displayed remarkable endurance initially. However, as the drops progressed, the iPhone’s screen turned unresponsive with a glaring white display, whereas the Galaxy, despite visible damage, remained functional. This round tilted in favor of the Galaxy S24 Ultra for its operational resilience.

Through these tests, it becomes evident that both the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro Max have their unique strengths and vulnerabilities. The Galaxy’s introduction of Gorilla Glass Armor and a titanium frame does indeed mark an advancement in smartphone durability. Yet, the reality of drop tests uncovers that complete invulnerability remains elusive. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, with its own titanium framework and slightly better performance in specific tests, showcases its prowess in durability, particularly in maintaining functionality post-face drops.

As we navigate through the maze of technological advancements, it’s comforting to know that manufacturers are pushing the boundaries of durability. Whether you’re inclined towards the Galaxy S24 Ultra for its operational durability post-extreme tests or lean towards the iPhone 15 Pro Max for its resilience in face and backdrop tests, both devices signify monumental strides in combining form, function, and fortitude.

Remember, while no device is indestructible, the innovations and improvements in design and materials are geared towards minimizing the impact of those inevitable drops. Choosing between the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro Max comes down to weighing their durability against your lifestyle needs and preferences.
