Microsoft launches generative AI model designed exclusively for US intelligence services — air-gapped system for spies aims to avoid potential security leaks

[ad_1]

AI technology has already proved instrumental in transforming and disrupting a wide range of industries, and really it’s just getting started.

Microsoft, which has gone “all-in” on artificial intelligence, has developed a generative AI model designed expressly for U.S. intelligence services. Unlike other AI platforms, such as Microsoft’s own Copilot, this one will be “air gapped” and won’t require a potentially unsafe connection to the internet.

Logitech Launches Keyboard Cases for New iPad Air and iPad Pro Models

[ad_1]

Popular accessory maker Logitech this week announced new keyboard case options that are designed for Apple’s iPad Air and iPad Pro models, offering an alternative to the more expensive Magic Keyboard options from Apple.

The Logitech Combo Touch is compatible with both sizes of the ‌iPad Air‌ and the two thin and light ‌iPad Pro‌ models. Logitech says that the Logitech Combo Touch is its lightest keyboard to date, improving portability and limiting the bulk added to a tablet setup.

The Combo Touch comes with a detachable keyboard and flexible kickstand for multiple use modes. It can be used for typing in the standard keyboard mode, or folded in a way that allows for sketching, reading, and Apple Pencil use.

There is a multi-touch trackpad, which Logitech says offers intuitive and precise input and navigation. There are auto-backlit keys in a standard layout with sixteen brightness levels. Shortcut keys allow easy access to volume control, media playback, screenshots, and more, plus there is a Smart Connector for connectivity so there’s no need for Bluetooth.

The Combo Touch for the 11-inch ‌iPad Air‌ is $200, while the Combo Touch for the 13-inch model is $230. The ‌iPad Pro‌ versions are priced at $230 and $260, respectively, for the 11-inch and 13-inch models. The keyboards can be purchased from the Logitech website.

Samsung launches more affordable S85D OLED TV in the US

[ad_1]

Samsung has launched a more affordable OLED TV—S85D—in the US. It sits below the S90D and uses LG Display’s WRGB OLED panel rather than Samsung Display’s QD-OLED panel. It also misses out on some features available on the S90D and the S95D OLED TV models launched earlier this year.

S85D is Samsung’s cheapest OLED TV ever, now available in the USA

Samsung S85D OLED TV USA Price

The S85D OLED TV from Samsung comes in three sizes: 55-inch, 65-inch, and 77-inch. All these variants use LG Display’s OLED panel, which means their color depth and volume won’t be as good as TVs using Samsung Display’s QD-OLED panel. It starts at $1,700 for the 55-inch version and goes as high as $3,400 for the 77-inch version.

  • 55-inch S85D (QN55S65DAEXZA): $1,700
  • 65-inch S85D (QN65S65DAEXZA): $2,100
  • 77-inch S85D (QN77S85DAEXZA): $3,400

You can order the TV today from Samsung’s website and get it delivered to most places in the US by May 16, 2024.

You can watch our video of the S90D and S95D OLED TVs below.

Samsung has equipped the S85D with a 4K OLED panel from LG. It features HDR10, HDR10+ (Adaptive & Gaming), and HLG compatibility, and it can be driven at 120Hz and has AMD FreeSync Premium certification for smooth gaming. It uses the NQ4 AI Gen2 processor for AI-powered 4K upscaling. It also features ALLM, HGiG, Mini Map Zoom, Super Ultra Wide Game View, and VRR.

It has 20W stereo speakers, a step down from the S90D’s 2.1-channel setup. Its audio features include 360 Audio, Active Voice Amplifier Pro, Adaptive Sound Pro, Bluetooth Dual Audio (with Buds Auto Switch), Dolby Atmos, Object Tracking Sound Lite, and Q-Symphony. It has more simplistic stands on the left and right edges, but you can also mount it on a VESA 300 x 200 compatible accessory.

It runs Tizen OS 7.0 (with Samsung Daily+) and comes with Samsung TV Plus for free video streaming. It features far-field microphones for voice commands. It has Alexa, Bixby, Google Assistant, Microsoft 365, Samsung Health, and Samsung Knox. It has a built-in SmartThings Hub with support for Thread and Zigbee modules. It is also compatible with Samsung’s SlimFit Cam for video calling. It comes bundled with Samsung’s SolarCell Remote, which can charge itself using ambient light.

The S85D’s wireless connectivity features include Bluetooth 5.2, dual-band Wi-Fi 5, AirPlay, Smart View, Tap Sound, Tap View, and Wireless DeX. The TV has four HDMI 2.1 ports (one with eARC), an optical audio out port, two USB 2.0 Type-A ports, one RF port, one LAN port, and one 3.5mm headphone port.

Samsung launches 25W and 45W power banks in India

[ad_1]

Samsung has launched two new power banks in India. One comes with a 10,000mAh battery capacity, while the other comes with double the capacity at 20,000mAh. The smaller one has a maximum power output of 25W, while the bigger one can offer up to 45W of power. You can find their prices below.

Samsung’s 25W 10,000mAh and 45W 20,000mAh power banks now available in India

The new 10,000mAh power bank from Samsung is priced at INR 3,499 in India. The 20,000mAh power bank costs INR 4,299. Both new power banks are available through Amazon.in, Samsung Store, and other authorized retailers across the country. Both devices are available in just one color: Beige.

Samsung Wireless Charging 10,000mAh Power Bank 25W

Samsung’s Wireless Power Bank 10,000mAh has two USB Type-C ports and supports a maximum power output of 25W. It supports USB PD and PPS charging protocols. It also features a Qi wireless charging pad, which supports up to 7.5W wireless charging. So, you can charge your Galaxy Buds or Galaxy Watch on the go. You can charge three devices wirelessly, but its power output will drop to 7.5W (USB C 1) + 7.5W (USB C 2) + 7.5W (Qi). It charges itself at 25W and comes with a USB Type-C to USB Type-C charging cable.

Samsung Power Bank 20,000mAh

The Samsung 20,000mAh Power Bank has three USB Type-C ports. They all support USB PD 3.0 PPS charging protocols and can support 15W simultaneous power outputs when charging three devices. When you charge one device, the power bank can offer up to 45W of power output. It has four LEDs for charging status. The power bank itself charges at 45W of power. It lacks Qi wireless charging, though, so you need to use a USB charging cable to charge your Galaxy Watch.

China’s Chang’e-6 launches successfully — what happens next?

[ad_1]

The Chang’e-6 lunar probe and the Long March-5 Y8 carrier rocket have been transferred vertically to the launching area at the Wenchang Space Launch Center in south China’s Hainan Province.

Onboard this Long March 5 rocket, Chang’e-6 is waiting to lift off from the Wenchang Space Launch Centre on Hainan Island, southern China.Credit: Xinhua/Shutterstock

China has successfully launched its historic Chang’e-6 mission. The 53-day odyssey will be the most complex and challenging Moon mission China has carried out. If all goes according to plan, scientists will be examining the first rocks from the Moon’s far side by late June.

The 7.2-metre-tall, eight-tonne spacecraft lifted off aboard a Long March 5 rocket on Friday afternoon local time, piercing through a tropical rainstorm from the Wenchang Satellite Launch Centre on Hainan Island. Just over one hour into the flight, the China National Space Administration (CNSA) announced the launch “a complete success”, after the craft separated from the rocket and entered the designated Earth-Moon transfer orbit.

Quentin Parker, an astrophysicist at the University of Hong Kong, hails the launch as “flawless”. “China’s accomplishments in space exploration over the past few years are without precedent. If successful, this mission will be another science bonanza,” he says.

Two-faced Moon

The lunar far side, which always faces away from us because the Moon is tidally locked to Earth, could not be more different than its near side, says planetary scientist Bradley Jolliff at Washington University in St Louis. Most of the ancient volcanic activity on the Moon happened on the near side, while the far side remained quieter under a thick and heavily cratered crust. “You would hardly know that they are from the same body by comparing the two sides,” Jolliff says.

A total of 10 missions, manned or unmanned, have brought back Moon rocks for analysis — all from the near side. Landing on the Moon’s far side requires, among other things, a communications satellite to relay signals with Earth.

This is why China launched the Queqiao-2 satellite in March, which is equipped with a 4.2-metre-diameter radio antenna — the largest of its kind used in deep space exploration — to orbit the Moon and wait for the arrival of Chang’e-6.

After arriving at the Moon early this week, the spacecraft will gradually lower its orbit and prepare for landing in one of three pre-selected areas within the South Pole-Aitken basin (SPA). The SPA is the largest and oldest impact basin on the lunar surface, and samples from there will provide clues to the Moon’s two-face mystery and the early history of the solar system.

In early June, the spacecraft will drop a lander, which aims to drill and scoop up two kilograms of soil and rocks. Then an ascender will blast off from the lander and ferry the samples back to the orbiter for the trip back home. Thanks to Queqiao-2, the spacecraft and Earth will remain in contact during the mission’s critical moments, such as the 15-minute descent and touchdown, two-day sampling, and 6-minute ascent.

“The geological conditions on the far side are less clear. Whether we’ll actually be able to scoop up or drill down, all remains to be seen when the sampling begins,” Pei Zhaoyu, a senior CNSA official and chief designer of China’s upcoming Chang’e-8 mission, told China Central Television during the launch livestream.

Scientists hope Chang’e-6 will also return material from beyond its landing site, such as rock fragments thrown over to the landing site from far distant locations during powerful impacts, Jolliff says. The material collected at the Chang’e-6 site “will be like a treasure chest”, he says. “The samples collected will be analysed for decades to come, and hopefully with access provided to the international research community,” he says.

Chang’e-6 is expected to return to Earth around June 25. If successful, the precious samples will land at the Siziwang Banner Landing Site in Inner Mongolia and be retrieved within 48 hours, according to CNSA.

Best Buy has launched a massive 4K TV sale featuring up to $800 off many top-rated TVs from Sony, Samsung and LG. Most of the offers are on previous-generation models which are still excellent to this day, so it’s a great opportunity to pick up a bargain on a premium display. Browse all TV deals at Best Buy

Let’s start with the LG C3 77-inch 4K OLED TV for $2,299.99 (was $2,699.99). This display still holds firmly in our best TV guide for its great performance and fantastic picture quality for TV shows, films, and gaming. While it has been slightly cheaper before, this is still a great price for an enormous OLED screen.

If you want a cheaper but still top-quality display, consider this Samsung Q80C 65-inch 4K QLED TV for $999.99 (it was $1,299.99). It’s a steal at $1,000, which is a benchmark we like to aim for if you want an affordable QLED TV. It’s especially great for sports and gaming, thanks to its high brightness levels and impressive ability to handle motion.

Those are just two of the many highlights from the latest Best Buy 4K TV sale. You can check out more of my recommendations below.

Samsung launches Galaxy S24 128GB in India

[ad_1]

Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 series, and in most markets, those phones started with 256GB base storage capacity. The 128GB versions of the phones were made for only a few markets, and they now seem to be reaching India.

It has been revealed that Samsung has launched the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant of the Galaxy S24 (SM-S921BB) in India. It is priced at INR 74,999 ($899), and there will be a discount of INR 1,000 for the initial period. It is priced INR 5,000 lower than the 256GB version of the Galaxy S24.

Samsung Galaxy S24 128GB Price India Galaxy F55

As you can see in the image above, Samsung has announced the pricing of the 128GB version of the Galaxy S24 to retail stores.

Galaxy F55 pricing in India

The announcement also reveals the pricing of the Galaxy F55, which hasn’t been officially unveiled yet. The 128GB version of the Galaxy F55 is priced at INR 26,999 ($323), while the 256GB version is priced at INR 29,999 ($359). The 12GB RAM + 256GB version of the phone will be priced at INR 32,999 ($395).

The Galaxy F55 will most likely be a rebranded version of the Galaxy M55 that was recently launched in India. It is expected to feature a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED+ screen with Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, 1,000 nits peak brightness, and an under-display fingerprint reader.

It will likely come equipped with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor. It could have a 50MP selfie camera, a 50MP primary rear camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. It could be powered by a 5,000mAh battery and supports 45W fast charging. It also features stereo speakers.

Finally! After a 7-year wait, this monitor could well be the best pro-level 8K display ever — will Asus be able to break the curse of failed 8K monitor launches with the PA32KCX Mini LED pro screen?

[ad_1]

Mini LEDs are typically found in gaming monitors. Unlike LCD backlights, they offer a broad contrast range, with deeper, near-OLED quality levels of black, that enrich and enhance the dynamism of both SDR and HDR content.

Asus has brought Mini LED technology to the ultra-high-end business monitor market for the first time with its new 32-inch ProArt Display PA32KCX. The 8K screen (that’s a whopping 7,680 x 4,320 pixels – 275 PPI), is aimed at professional photographers, video editors and graphics artists.
