DJI Avata 2: two minute review

FPV (first person view) drone flight has taken the world by storm. Something that started more than 15 years ago as very much an underground hobby requiring ingenious and determined pilots to source parts, and build and repair their own drones, has now well and truly established itself as a mainstream pursuit that’s available to more people than ever before – and that’s thanks in no small part to market leader DJI.

What DJI offers is a straight-out-of-the-box solution for those who want to fly drones using immersive FPV goggles (and therefore see what the drone ‘sees’) without the difficulty and steep learning curve of flying traditional self-built FPV drones.

Apple plans to release the first Immersive Video sports film Thursday at 6 p.m. PT. It’s a 5-minute recap of the 2023 MLS playoffs.

And the 180-degree 3D soccer blowout with Spatial Audio will be free in the Apple TV app for all Vision Pro users.

Apple’s 2023 MLS playoff Immersive Video for Vision Pro comes out Thursday, March 28

So the new video is made up of various shorts in the Apple TV app, totalling about 5 minutes in length, according to source like the blog Six Colors. Amusingly, the blog’s author, Jason Snell, points out that this video drops 110 days after the MLS Cup Final — not exactly speedy turnaround time.

The video recaps Major League Soccer’s 2023 playoffs. As such, it looks most closely at the winning team, Columbus Crew, and its rival in the championship game, LAFC. Columbus won the big prize by a 2-1 score.

MLS Season Pass broadcasters Taylor Twellman and Jake Zivin narrate the short film, according to 9to5Mac.

This video becomes the fifth Immersive Video available to Vision Pro users. The Apple TV app features others on wildlife and adventure-related topics. Those, as well as sports, work well in the eye-popping format.

The new Vision Pro AR/VR headset launched in February in the United States, with roll-out plans for other countries scheduled.
