Hands on: The Hisense U9N 4K TV is mini-LED taken to the max, with powerful built-in Dolby Atmos sound too – Samsung should be worried

[ad_1]

Hisense just announced its new Hisense U9N series mini-LED TVs, and as part of that announcement, the company invited reviewers, myself included, to spend quality hands-on time with a pre-production 75-inch version of the U9N at a launch event in New York.

The Hisense U9N series TVs slot between the company’s flagship ULED X series and the new U8N series (review coming soon) TVs, and incorporate technology from the ULED X lineup. Specifically, they use Hisense’s Hi-View Engine X picture processing and a mini-LED backlight with up to 5,300 local dimming zones. That’s a strikingly high number, even among the best TVs that use mini-LED – the Hisense U8K, in contrast, topped out at around 1,000 local dimming zones.

As you might expect, the premium tech packaged in the U9N series comes with a price boost over the U8N series, with the 75-inch version selling for $2,999 (around  £2,400 / AU$ 4,530) and $3,999 (around  £3,200 / AU$ 6,050) for the 85-inch version. (Compare that to the $1,999 pricing for the 75-inch Hisense U8N.) Hisense plans to ship both models this summer, and they will be sold at Best Buy and Amazon.

The U9N series also has a premium design that aligns closely with the ULED X series TVs. That includes an aluminum bezel and side-mounted speakers, with the latter providing the left and right channels for the TV’s built-in 4.1.2 Dolby Atmos speaker system, which gets up to 82 watts of power (on the 85-inch model).

6-screen laptop manufacturer is very much alive — Acme Portable’s Megapac L3 is the original hexadisplay mobile powerstation and is still on sale, shame that it is still using old dual CPU tech from AMD and Intel

[ad_1]

It was hard not to shed a tear when MediaWorkstation disappeared, taking its wild six-screen a-X2P workstation laptop with it.

The company’s workstation laptop promised to be an incredible, and ridiculous, powerhouse, with two AMD EPYC Genoa Zen 4 CPUs, two full-size GPUs, up to 3TB DDR5 RAM, one M.2 NVMe boost SSD, and five storage drives.

I was fed up with creative blocks, and I found the perfect app to help me do something about it

[ad_1]

Creative blocks. Real or imagined? Having worked in creative industries for the past 20 years, I can relate to days and even weeks where it feels like there’s a blockage. At times, ideas flow, and turning them into meaningful creations seems as natural as a bee making honey. At other times, I seem to get caught up in that honey and end up trudging through my days questioning whether I should have just worked at the local shop.

In reality, I have no idea why we expect our bodies and brains to be at 100% peak performance and efficiency 100% of the time. Isn’t that incredibly unrealistic?

The Boys season 4 trailer reveals ties to Gen V and a battle for America’s soul ahead of hit Amazon show’s return

[ad_1]

Amazon has unveiled a new trailer for The Boys season 4 – and, I don’t know about you, but I didn’t have superpowered, violent farm animals on my bingo card for the show’s next installment.

Revealed yesterday (May 3) during The Boys season 4 panel at Mexico Comic-Con – and released online immediately after its world premiere – the series’ latest trailer teases another blood-soaked entry on Prime Video. Not only that, though, it also confirms that key storylines from companion show Gen V will carry over into the main series. Oh, and that all-out war between the titular vigilantes and the Seven, the most-famous superhero team in The Boys universe, is about to erupt. And yes, those are Compound V-injected, Supe-d up farm animals – including an Alien-like, chest bursting flock of chickens and a group of flying sheep.

I went looking for the inventors building real Star Wars lightsabers and was surprised at what I found

[ad_1]

21st-century science has all the necessary principles to create a working Star Wars lightsaber, but not the know-how.

A few years ago, Swiss fusion physicist Federico Felici explained in detail to The Science Museum blog how hot plasma contorted into an elongated, 3,100-degree Fahrenheit toroidal cylinder (think of a doughnut stretched into a long tube) by powerful magnets and contained in an insulated handle could make a working lightsaber.

New report hints at the new iPads set to be unveiled by Apple on May 7

[ad_1]

Apple has told us it’s going to be launching something new on May 7, and all the signs point to that something being new iPads. Now a new report lists the specific models and accessories we’ll be getting introduced to on Tuesday.

This report comes from well-known Apple tipster Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, and it rounds up some of the rumors we’ve already been hearing. Gurman says we’ll get a new pair of iPad Pro models: the 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes will be the same as the current iPad Pros, but they’ll be the first Apple tablets to switch to OLED.
