Samsung Galaxy S24 phones are on sale for record-low prices at Amazon

[ad_1]

Samsung makes some of the best Android phones you can get right now and the latest models have dropped to all-time-low prices. If you’ve been waiting for a good deal on the high-end Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, you’re in luck — the handset with 256GB of storage is $150 off and down to $1,150. The Galaxy S24+ is also on sale for $850 right now.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has dropped to its lowest price to date of $1,150.

$1,150 at Amazon

We gave the Galaxy S24 Ultra a score of 89 in our review. We found it to be very expensive (this discount helps mitigate that!) and the design and lack of Qi 2 support were drawbacks. However, we appreciated the camera upgrades and felt the S24 Ultra delivered great performance and offered terrific battery life. It often had a 50 percent charge remaining after 24 hours of regular use, thanks to the large battery and power efficiency gains afforded by the new processor.

One other major thing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset powers is a host of on-device generative AI (GAI) features, the big selling point for the Galaxy lineup this year as Samsung tries to compete with Google Pixel devices on that front. An interpreter mode can translate languages during calls, while the Chat Assist tool can check the grammar, spelling and tone of your messages before sending them. There are also AI-powered options for image editing and search. While the AI tools more or less work as expected, we felt that they’re not quite as polished as Google’s versions. Nevertheless, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is our pick for the best premium Android phone.

The Galaxy S24+ also has a $150 discount right now. That too marks a record low for a version with 256GB of storage — the handset currently costs $850. Like its smaller sibling, the S24, the S24+ earned a score of 87 in our review. We appreciated the battery life and (for the most part) the GAI tools, though we felt that low-light photography performance was somewhat lacking. Those who prefer foldables may be more interested in the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Again, that’s $150 off at $850 for 256GB of storage. However, it’s $50 more than the lowest price we’ve seen for the handset thus far.

OpenAI may slash API prices for ChatGPT next month

ChatGPT API prices and memory storage

Speculation is circulating that OpenAI may unveil some amazing new price cuts for developers next month during its first OpenAI Developer Conference 2023. Sources close to the action who would rather not be named have contacted Reuters explaining that potential major updates for developers to build software applications based on OpenAI’s ChatGPT large language model will be announced next month.

OpenAI, a leading artificial intelligence research lab, is set to introduce significant updates aimed at making AI-based software development cheaper and faster. These updates, which include the introduction of memory storage to developer tools and the addition of vision capabilities for image analysis.

ChatGPT Memory Storage

The introduction of memory storage to its developer tools is a significant step forward for OpenAI. This feature could potentially reduce costs for application makers by up to 20 times, making it more affordable for developers to build software applications based on OpenAI’s AI models. This is a crucial move, especially considering the high revenue expectations of the company. OpenAI executives expect to close this year with $200 million in revenue and aim to reach $1 billion by 2024.

API price cuts

Other articles you may find of interest on OpenAI’s ChatGPT and AI models.

The addition of vision capabilities is another significant update. This feature will enable developers to build applications that can analyze and describe images, expanding the range of possible applications for OpenAI’s technology. This is part of OpenAI’s broader strategy to transition from a consumer sensation to a developer platform. The company launched ChatGPT last November, which quickly became one of the world’s fastest-growing consumer applications. Now, OpenAI is looking to encourage companies to use its technology to build AI-powered chatbots and autonomous agents.

OpenAI developers conference 2023

However, OpenAI’s journey has not been without challenges. The company has faced difficulties in encouraging outsiders to build businesses using its technology. Despite these challenges, OpenAI is planning to release the stateful API, which will make it cheaper for companies to create applications by remembering the conversation history of inquiries. This release, along with the vision API, is part of OpenAI’s efforts to attract more developers to pay to access its model to build their own AI software.

The AI industry has seen significant investment, with investors pouring over $20 billion this year into AI startups, many of which rely on OpenAI’s technology. However, there are concerns over startups’ reliance on OpenAI or Google. OpenAI is working to distinguish itself from competitors like Google and to keep developers happy. However, its ambition to win over other companies has been less smooth, with plugins not gaining market traction.

OpenAI’s upcoming updates are a significant step towards making AI-based software development cheaper and faster. The introduction of memory storage to developer tools and the addition of vision capabilities for image analysis are expected to reduce costs and expand the range of possible applications for OpenAI’s technology. However, the company faces challenges in attracting businesses to use its technology and in distinguishing itself from competitors. Despite these challenges, OpenAI’s efforts to keep developers happy and its high revenue expectations suggest a promising future for the company. As always we will keep you up to speed on all the new announcements made in the run-up to OpenAI’s first highly anticipated developer conference taking place in San Francisco on November 6th 2023.

The Economics of Bullion: What Drives Gold and Silver Prices?

Unlike investments like bonds or dividend-paying stocks, bullion does not provide yields. Investors rely on price appreciation to make a profit from their gold and silver investments.

Before you start investing in bullion yourself, it can help to understand the economic factors that drive gold and silver prices. As commodities, gold and silver are largely driven by supply and demand economics. This is how supply and demand tend to play out in bullion markets.

1. Jewellery Demand

Jewellery is how the majority of people on Earth consume and interact with precious metals like gold and silver. Even people who would never consider investing in bullion wouldn’t think twice about wearing a gold ring or receiving a gold watch as part of their retirement.

The countries with the highest demand for gold jewellery are China, India, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. China and India outpace other countries’ demand for gold jewellery by far, and economic growth in these countries can drive gold prices higher.

2. Investors: Bullion Bars and Coins

One of the most popular ways to invest in bullion is to go directly to authorized bullion dealers and buy fine gold and silver in the form of coins and bars.

There are several reasons people invest in physical bullion over other assets. They are looking for a safe haven alternative to stocks and cash that protects them from volatility on the market, stock market crashes, and inflation. They also want an asset that comes without counter-party risks.

You often see demand for bullion bars and coins rise during recessions, as well as when stories of corporate fraud start to dominate the headlines. Weakness in the U.S. dollar and higher rates of inflation also tend to drive more interest from investors.

3. Paper Gold: Futures Trading

Physical bullion is not the only way to invest in gold. Many investors, especially institutions, prefer to invest in gold without taking physical ownership of it. Gold futures allow institutions to access the gold market without taking physical ownership, the same way they do with other commodities like oil.

Futures trading plays a major role in determining the price of gold and silver. Futures contracts are where you can see the prevailing expectations of major financial institutions and investors. Futures can impact over-the-counter gold spot prices.

4. Supply: How Much New Bullion Is There?

The finite nature of gold and silver is always going to be a major factor when it comes to gold prices. In the long term, gold supply is a major driver of the asset’s prices.

Estimating how much gold is left to be mined is not necessarily easy. There are resources that are currently impractical or uneconomical to mine under current conditions, but that can change given either technological advancements or significantly higher gold prices.

Nevertheless, the long-term outlook for gold supply is that the metal is set to become much harder to find and more expensive to extract from the ground as more accessible reserves are depleted. Expect prices to rise as gold becomes harder to find.

Before you invest in bullion, learn more about the economics that drives gold and silver prices. You can make more informed investment decisions about finding the right time to buy and sell.
