Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, a washer and dryer combo, in Korea, which became an instant hit in the country given the cutting-edge features it offers. Like most washing machines and dryers, the product was available in only one color in the region, Dark Silver Steel. While the product looks great in that shade, it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Well, Samsung is fixing that problem today.
Samsung has announced that it has launched the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo in a new color in Korea, Satin Light Beige, giving people the option to get the product in different colors to match their preferences or the aesthetics of the laundry room. So, people who love darker colors can go with Dark Silver Steel and people who love lighter colors can go with Satin Light Beige. As you might expect, this color costs the same as the other.
Recently, Samsung launched the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, along with other Bespoke AI products, globally, and a couple of days ago, it made the new washer and dryer available to purchase in the United States as well. However, unlike in Korea, the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo is available in only one color in the US, which is Dark Silver Steel. We hope that the company launches Satin Light Beige in other regions as well.
On a related note, yesterday, Samsung launched the Tide POD Cold wash cycle for the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo in partnership with Procter and Gamble (P&G). This wash cycle is optimized for washing clothes using the Tide Hygienic Clean Heavy Duty 10X Power PODS detergent using cold water, and the tech giant says that it offers “excellent laundry performance without consuming energy to heat the water.”
Earlier today, Samsung announced the global launch of its 2024 home appliance lineup. The company has now announced the launch of those AI-equipped appliances in India. The South Korean firm conducted the ‘Bespoke AI’ event at the Samsung BKC store at the Jio World Plaza in Mumbai, India.
Samsung’s 2024 BESPOKE AI home appliances are now available in India
Samsung’s new BESPOKE home appliance lineup includes ACs, microwaves, refrigerators, and washing machines. The AC lineup includes the Convertible 5-In-1 Split AC and WindFree Inverter Split AC, and they are available in various capacities and energy efficiency rating versions. They have SmartThings AI Energy Mode for maximum power efficiency. The 4-Door Flex Family Hub+ Refrigerator has a 32-inch touchscreen and an internal camera, which can be used to track things (such as items, their quantity, and their expiry date) inside the refrigerator, and to create alerts when things are about to run out of stock.
Samsung’s new AI-powered BESPOKE home appliances have built-in Wi-Fi, SmartThings, and advanced power-saving features. Thanks to those features, it gets easier for anyone to control and maintain those home appliances. For example, the BESPOKE AC lets the user know when it is time to get the filter cleaned. These appliances can be controlled using Bixby and the SmartThings app, and they offer higher energy efficiency for power bill savings. Samsung claims that energy savings can be up to 20% in ACs, up to 10% in refrigerators, and up to 70% in washing machines.
The BESPOKE AI Microwave offers personalized AI recipes with ‘low fat’ versions. It is compatible with Alexa, Bixby, Google Assistant, and SmartThings. It integrates with Samsung Food and offers special cooking modes for India: Masala Mode, Sun Dry Mode, and Tadka Mode. Samsung’s front-load washing machines use AI to learn laundry routines and adapt to your usage over time. They sense the weight of the laundry load, the kind of fabric and softness, the detergent level, the soiling level, and the water level to create a custom washing program.
Some of these appliances are already available for purchase from Samsung’s website. Some other appliances will soon be available for pre-order.
JB Park, President & CEO of Samsung Southwest Asia, said, “We are introducing Bespoke AI, our next big innovation in home appliances which will ensure smarter living for Indian homes and reduce energy consumption, contributing to a greener planet. With our Bespoke AI-powered home appliances, consumers will be able to customize their choices, get easy controls for elders and kids, and get seamless diagnosis for their home appliances. With the transformative power of AI, we are confident that Bespoke AI will strengthen our leadership in the digital appliances market in India.“
Samsung has launched a Moving Stand for its 43-inch monitors in South Korea. This monitor has wheels made of urethane, allowing users to move their monitor between rooms without making any noise.
Samsung’s Moving Stand gives you the freedom to move your monitor without any hassle
When combined with any of Samsung’s Smart Monitor, it can be used as a do-it-all product. You can move the Smart Monitor from your work room to your bedroom or living room once you’ve finished your work to watch movies and TV shows. It can also be used in a scenario where multiple people can use just one monitor at different times.
The Moving Stand is priced at KRW 269,000 ($200) and is available in black and white colors. Samsung is also bundling it with a 43-inch Smart Monitor, and it is priced at KRW 909,000 ($671) for the black version and KRW 949,000 ($701) for the white version. It could be launched in international markets in the next few months.
A Samsung Electronics official said, “The 43-inch model was released to meet the needs of customers who want to use a smart monitor moving stand with a large screen that maximizes mobility and convenience. We will lead the market with a variety of customized products.”
Popular accessory brand Mophie today announced the launch of new iPhone charging products that use the new Qi2 wireless charging standard. Qi2 is similar to MagSafe in that it is able to charge compatible iPhone models at up to 15W rather than being limited to 7.5W.

If you’ve been thinking about upgrading that old TV – now’s the time. Not only do we have fantastic deals coinciding with March Madness, but Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart have all launched big Spring Sales.
Of the three, we’d single out Best Buy as the top retailer right now – not least because some of our favorite models are on sale for Black Friday-level prices. The outstanding LG C3 OLED is just $1,599 (was $2,499) right now, for example.
If you’re on more of a budget, then Best Buy’s also got some fantastic TV deals on lower to mid-range sets currently – particularly those offering big 65-inch and up displays. We’d recommend the Hisense A7 for $499.99 (was $579.99), the Insignia F30 Series for $519.99 (was $599), or the Samsung TU690T for $549.99 (was $599). All three of these are good budget options right now – and you can check them out in more detail just down below, alongside other high-end options.
While you’re here, don’t forget to check out our huge page on today’s Amazon Big Spring Sale, which includes more TVs, as well as other categories like appliances, laptops, and headphones, and our main March Madness TV sales guide.
March 23, 1992: The “headless” Macintosh LC II arrives, wooing value-oriented customers with a beguiling mix of updated internals and budget pricing.
Designed to take up minimal space underneath a monitor (sold separately), the Mac LC II is destined to become a hit. In retrospect, the entry-level machine is roughly analogous to today’s Mac mini.

Macintosh LC II: A budget Mac
The Mac LC II wasn’t Apple’s first “pizza box” computer to come without a monitor. It looked much like its predecessor, the first-gen Mac LC (for “Low Cost”), which Apple released in October 1990 (and discontinued the same day the LC II came on the scene).
The original LC was a heavily crippled computer that used the old Motorola 68020 chip that Apple retired with the Mac II. However, the LC sold 500,000 units within its first year, which made it a massive success.
A sequel to the Mac LC

The LC II served as a worthy sequel. It didn’t change much in terms of the formula, which was clearly working. But it packed more power — and came with a lower price tag. At a time when Macs were, adjusted for inflation, a lot more expensive than today, the LC II cost just $1,699 for a base model with 4MB of RAM and a 40MB hard drive. Still, that’s $3,779 in 2024 dollars.
This was $800 cheaper than its predecessor, although with both models you had to shell out extra for a monitor. (A more-expensive version with an 80MB hard drive ran $1,849.)
Mac LC II and System 7
The Mac LC II boasted all the standard Apple ports you’d expect. Photo: Jonathan Zufi
Instead of the 16-MHz 68020 CPU of the original, the LC II boasted a Motorola 68030 CPU. This provided an on-board memory management unit, 256K data cache and 32-bit data path.
The low-cost machine (relatively speaking) let users tap into the virtual memory of Mac’s System 7 operating system. Apple considered that a big advantage at the time — and an important selling point.
Despite these improvements, many speed tests found that the LC II ran a bit slower than its predecessor.
Another ‘headless’ hit for Apple
Still, the computer won reviewers’ recommendations. The LC II wasn’t a computer you’d buy if you were looking for a top-of-the-range Macintosh with every feature under the sun. Instead, it offered budget-conscious customers an improved, entry-level machine that was more affordable.
If you went to school in the early 1990s, and used a Mac in your classroom, this could well have been it.

March 20, 1997: Apple launches its Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh, a futuristic, special-edition Mac that’s ahead of its time in every way. Not part of any established Mac line, it brings a look (and a price!) unlike anything else available — and Apple delivers them to buyers in a limo!
And yet the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh promptly bombs. Today, it’s a collector’s piece.
The 20th anniversary Mac … sort of
Somewhat confusingly, the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh didn’t actually represent the 20th anniversary of the Mac. (That milestone passed in 2004 with very little fanfare from Apple.) Instead, the innovative Mac marked 20 years since the 1977 incorporation of Apple.
With the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh, Apple easily could have looked to the past and built a Mac that paid tribute to the look of the original Macintosh 128K. In some ways, this would have made perfect sense in the “bad old days” of the 1990s, when Apple was effectively selling to a small but devoted group of Mac addicts.
Instead, Apple boldly did the opposite, building a computer that looked like it came from the future. The Twentieth Anniversary Mac was the first flatscreen Mac in history, with a design that massively predated today’s gorgeous iMacs.
As with the flatscreen monitor, the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh embraced the future by aiming to be a full multimedia machine. It boasted an integrated TV/FM radio system, S-video input and a custom sound system designed by Bose.
From a visual perspective, the weirdest thing about the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh was its CD drive. Unlike the almost-invisible slots of later Macs, the CD drive on the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh was a front-on vertical square that dominated the front of the machine.
Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh launch: Harbinger of change
The Twentieth Anniversary Mac looked like no Mac before. Photo: Apple
In keeping with the theme of looking to the future, the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh also signaled a change inside Apple.
Blaming the company’s dysfunctional culture, head designer Robert Brunner quit Apple shortly before the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh came to market. That cleared the way for Jony Ive — who worked as a designer on the project — to rise through the ranks.
Rise of Apple design group
The Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh was one of the first computers to start out within Apple’s design group rather than the company’s engineering department. Given Ive’s lofty position within Apple in later years, this approach became standard practice in Cupertino. But that certainly wasn’t the case in the mid-1990s. (Ive, who went on to become Apple’s chief design officer, left the company in 2019 after a string of hits.)
The Twentieth Anniversary Mac arrived as Apple went through enormous changes, with former CEO Gil Amelio stepping down and Steve Jobs rejoining the company as part of its NeXT acquisition.
Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak came back as an adviser, too. For a short period of time, 1997 really was like 1977 again. Jobs and Woz briefly played a bigger role in Apple than they had in years.
(Apple actually gave the first two Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh units to Jobs and Wozniak. Woz loved it, describing it as the perfect computer for a college student since it came with “computer, TV, radio, CD player and more … all in one sleek machine.)
Twentieth Anniversary Mac fails in the marketplace
Unfortunately, the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh (like another of my favorite Macs, the Power Mac G4 Cube) failed completely at the box office. When it launched, the TAM cost $9,000 (more than $17,400 in today’s dollars). That price tag made it totally unaffordable to the average consumer, let alone college students.
In the end, Apple sold just a few thousand units.
As with the battles between Jobs and Jef Raskin over the original Mac, a disagreement arose over whether the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh should be a regular computer priced for the masses, or a pricey special edition — which is what the marketing department wanted. The marketers won out, and the Twentieth Anniversary Mac floundered as a result.
A luxury Mac, delivered in a limo
“What is the deal with the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh?” Photo: Seinfeld
For what it’s worth, if you did buy an early Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh, you enjoyed an experience like no other.
Forget waiting in line at the store. Apple delivered the Twentieth Anniversary Macs to buyers’ homes via limo. A man in a tuxedo would set up the high-end machines.
Apple eventually chopped the price of the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh to just $2,000, before discontinuing it in March 1998. It never caught on with consumers, although it did win design awards.
The unique computer also popped up in pop culture. It served as the Mac in Jerry’s apartment in the final season of Seinfeld. And Alfred Pennyworth used a TAM in the terrible 1997 movie Batman & Robin.
If you’re looking for a Mac that bridges the gap between the doomed experimentalism of Apple in the 1990s and the company Apple eventually morphed into, the utterly unique Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh is the perfect machine. Just don’t expect to easily find one going cheap on eBay.
Apple recently added a new “Documentation” page to its website that provides links to user guides, repair manuals, tech specs, software downloads, and more for a variety of products. This information was previously found across separate pages on Apple’s website, and it has now been combined in one place for convenient access.
The page includes categories for the Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod, Vision Pro, Apple Watch, Apple TV, AirPods, HomePod, displays like the Studio Display and Pro Display XDR, accessories like the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard, and software.
There is also a search tool on the page that provides links to support documents and other relevant information based on the keywords entered.
