New Beats Solo 4 Headphones Show Up in FCC Database as Launch Approaches

[ad_1]

Apple is working on a new version of the popular Beats Solo on-ear headphones, and it looks like we are getting closer to a potential launch date. FCC documents for the Beats Solo 4 headphones were found today, and that typically happens in the weeks ahead of a debut.

new beats solo 4
Signs of the Beats Solo 4 were first spotted in late February, with images found in the iOS 17.4 beta. The headphones look similar to the Solo 3 headphones, but with some minor design tweaks that bring them in line with the Beats Studio Pro that came out last year.

We are expecting the Beats Solo 4 to come in three colors, including black, pink, and blue. While we don’t know the full feature set, we found code that suggests they will support Spatial Audio.

The headphones are likely to adopt some of the changes that were brought to the Beats Studio Pro, including improved sound quality and a USB-C port instead of a micro-USB port. Gesture support will be included, with a press on the “b” button to play/pause and answer calls, a double press to skip songs, and a long press to activate Siri.

The Beats Solo 3 headphones first came out in 2016, and while there have been new color releases, the line is long overdue for an update. There is no word as of yet when the Solo 4 will come out, but FCC filings usually show up around a month in advance.

Lower-Cost AirPods and New AirPods Max Said to Launch Later This Year

[ad_1]

Apple plans to release lower-cost AirPods later this year, according to Jeff Pu, an analyst who covers companies within Apple’s supply chain.

airpods 3 orange
In a research note today with investment firm Haitong International Securities, Pu said a Foxconn subsidiary will be one of the suppliers of the lower-cost AirPods. Pu said Foxconn will ramp up AirPods assembly at a factory in India in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman previously said Apple plans to release two fourth-generation AirPods models in September or October, including entry-level and mid-tier models. He said both models will feature a new design with better fit, improved sound quality, and an updated charging case with a USB-C port, while the mid-tier model will also feature active noise cancellation and a speaker for Find My location tracking. It is unclear if the lower-priced AirPods and the entry-level fourth-generation AirPods are the same product, but it seems plausible.

Pu also expects updated AirPods Max to be released in the fourth quarter of 2024. Gurman previously said a USB-C charging port will be the only new feature for the over-ear headphones, and new color options are also a possibility.

OLED Apple iPad Pro launch delay could be due to Samsung

[ad_1]

It has long been rumored that Apple will use Samsung Display’s OLED panels in its next-generation iPad Pro lineup. Those iPads were expected to be launched this month, but that didn’t happen, and it was understood that the launch of those iPad Pros has been delayed. It is rumored that Samsung could be the reason behind the delayed launch.

Samsung Display reportedly faced yield issues for OLED panels for upcoming iPad Pros

According to a new report from Hankooki, Samsung Display recently faced poor yields (usable panels from all the manufactured ones) for its new 11-inch OLED panels, and it has been unable to meet Apple’s order quantity. This forced Apple to transfer orders for some OLED panels from Samsung Display to LG Display. LG Display is expected to increase its production capacity by hundreds of thousands next month.

Samsung Display Eco² OLED Plus UPC Plus

Due to this reallocation, LG Display is expected to make 60% of all OLED orders for the next-generation iPad Pro lineup. Earlier, Apple had divided OLED orders between LG Display and Samsung Display. LG was meant to make 13-inch panels, while Samsung was tasked with making 11-inch OLED panels. These are newer OLED panels with two light-emitting layers, offering much longer life and higher brightness.

Recently, LG invested millions of dollars to set up a sixth-generation OLED panel manufacturing line and received quality control certification from Apple. It can now pick up some slack from Samsung Display. Apple has reportedly placed orders for 8.5 million OLED panels for its upcoming iPad Pro models. This is a decrease from the previously reported 10 million figure.

What to expect from OLED iPad Pros?

The upcoming iPad Pros are expected to be costlier than the current-generation ones. They could feature Apple’s M3 chips, bringing a huge performance increase compared to the current-generation iPad Pros. The upcoming iPad Pros are now expected to launch sometime in May 2024.

Apple to Launch New iPad Pro and iPad Air Models in May

[ad_1]

Apple will introduce new iPad Pro and iPad Air models in early May, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman. Gurman previously suggested the new iPads would come out in March, and then April, but the timeline has been pushed back once again.

iPad Pro OLED Feature 2
Apple is working on updates to both the ‌iPad Pro‌ and ‌iPad Air‌ models. The ‌iPad Pro‌ models will get OLED display technology and the new M3 chips, while the ‌iPad Air‌ will come in the standard 10.9-inch size and a larger 12.9-inch size.

According to Gurman, Apple’s suppliers are ramping up production of the new iPads at the current time. Apple initially planned to launch the iPads in March or early April, but is apparently working to “finish software for the new devices.” The OLED iPad Pro models also need “complex new manufacturing techniques,” which Gurman says has contributed to the delay.

Eight years after launch, No Man’s Sky gets computer-generated space stations that are different each time

[ad_1]

No Man’s Sky is still getting major updates. Developer Hello Games’ “Orbital” update, due Wednesday, adds procedurally generated space stations (so they’ll be different every time), a ship editor and a Guild system to the nearly eight-year-old space exploration sim.

Up until now, space stations have been one of the few parts of No Man’s Sky that weren’t created and randomized by algorithms as something truly unique. That changes with today’s update, which uses game engine upgrades to “create vast interior spaces and exterior spaces, with improved reflection and metallic surfaces.”

The stations’ broader scale will be evident from the outside, while their interiors will include new shops, gameplay and things to do. Hello Games describes them as being “uniquely customized” based on their virtual inhabitants’ system, race and locale.

Three characters stand in action poses in the foreground of a space hangar as ships whizz by.Interior of new procedurally generated space stations in the game No Man's Sky. Hello Games

Inside the stations, you’ll find the new ship editor. Hello Games says it previously withheld ship customization to maintain the title’s focus on exploration. (If players could build any ship they wanted at any time, it could ruin some of the fun of scouting out existing ones to buy in-game.) In that spirit, you’ll still need to collect, trade and salvage the parts to build yours how you like it.

The game’s upgraded Guild system, also in today’s update, makes factions a bigger part of the experience. You can find new Guild envoys on space stations, where you can join the club, get supplies and precious commodities and donate to boost your status in the group.

Fleets are getting better, too. With today’s update, you can send your frigate fleet on away missions — and if they run into trouble, you can swoop in and save the day. It sounds like a fun nuance to help scratch anyone’s space fantasy itch.

No Man’s Sky owners can install the Orbital update — also including engine improvements, a UI refresh and “much more” — today.
