The Walden is Aura’s biggest and best digital photo frame yet, but it’s also the priciest; it’s only available directly for shoppers in the US. The Walden may feel too big to rest on a sideboard, shelf or any surface, while it can also feel a little small when mounted on a wall – 15 inches is an awkward middle ground.
That said, I do prefer the size of display over the smaller 10.1-inch Aura Carver Mat, since it allows you to shows off your photos and videos on a larger scale – and having the option to wall mount or have it freestanding can only be a good thing.
For a digital photo frame, Aura’s app is as good as they come: simple to use and to share with friends and family, who can also upload images to the frame from anywhere there’s an internet connection, and with unlimited photo and video storage included.

Most digital photo frames – like Aura’s own Carver series – are around 10 inches, and designed to stand on any surface; but the Walden is a different proposition, dwarfing those frames with its 15-inch display.
You probably won’t quite be able to squeeze it onto bookshelf, and your sideboard will need to be generously sized to accommodate the frame comfortably. But if you have the space then the Walden will be the preferred choice; plus it’s also easy enough to mount it to a wall instead.
The frame’s power cable is covered in a cream-colored fabric, which is more likely to blend into the background than a black cable. Trailing cables can spoil the effect of a digital wall-mounted display, but this shouldn’t be a problem here.
That said, while 15-inches feels big on a sideboard, it comes up small on a wall. For around twice the outlay, the 27-inch Vieunite Textura Digital Canvas is much more at home on a wall, plus that frame offers free and paid-for digital downloads of famous artworks and those from upcoming artists.

Design-wise, the Walden is eye-catching. It’s slicker than the similarly sized Netgear Meural Wi-Fi art frame, sporting a matt-black frame and classic white border, for a total diagonal dimension of 15.7 inches.
At the rear, there’s a recess to attach the metal triangular stand, or in which to rest the supplied wall mount hook. You can position the Walden in both landscape and portrait formats.
There are two touch bar panels, one on the top and the other on the side of the frame. You barely notice they’re there, and they’re super responsive for functions such as swipe to next image, plus press and hold to reveal image information such as who uploaded the picture – handy, if you have a lot of “members” with access to the frame.
Aura’s free app is available for both iOS and Android devices, and is needed to set up the frame and upload images. It’s also through the app that you can invite other “members” – such as family and friends – to upload their own images.
You can add multiple Aura frames to the app and take control of all of them, plus Aura wants to tempt you to buy several frames through multi-purchase deals. For example, at the time of writing, if you buy two Walden frames then there’s a $15 discount.

I have a sideboard at home that’s big enough to accommodate the Walden frame, and I’ve found its size far more preferable to the standard 10-inch displays of most other digital photo frames.
It has an anti-glare finish that delivers a wide optimum viewing angle before reflections get in the way – or, indeed, before the luminosity of the backlit display is reduced when viewing the frame at night. Compared to the Aura Carver Mat, the viewing angle of the Walden is much wider.
The display’s 4:3 aspect ratio suits most phones that natively shoot in this ratio. However, if you’re uploading photos from a proper camera that’s more likely to shoot in 3:2 aspect ratio, you’ll have to choose between losing part of your shot or having a black border on the top and bottom of the display – as is the case for 16:9 videos.
The resolution of the frame is 1600 x 1200 pixels, making for a modest 133 pixels per inch density. However, I found the display packed enough detail unless I was up close – which you don’t need to be given the size of the display.

As mentioned, it’s possible to load videos to the Walden frame, too, although remember that the frame’s aspect ratio is much narrower than the standard 16:9 format for video. There’s a speaker on the back for audio, although don’t hold any great expectation on audio quality – it’s pretty basic.
A nice touch with Aura frames is that you can purchase them as a personalized gift and preload images onto the frame ahead of time.

The Aura Walden has been a fixture in my home for a couple of months, positioned on a window-lit sideboard. The mains-powered display is automatically active during the day, and can power off at night to conserve power.
I’ve uploaded digital photos and videos through the Android version of Aura’s app. I’ve scrolled through the gallery of images using the frame’s touch panel and regularly updated the images in the gallery through the app.
I’ve checked out the quality of the display in daylight and at night, close-up and far away, plus viewed it straight on and from the side to check the viewing angle of the anti-glare display.
Chinese firm Hisense seems to have heavily copied the idea from Samsung’s The Frame TV for its new CanvasTV. Hisense announced its new CanvasTV lineup, which aims to be the central point of attraction in your living room by displaying art pieces through its matte screen.

The screen’s brightness and color temperature can be adjusted to match the ambiance. A motion sensor turns the TV off automatically when no one is in the room. It even features Art Mode, which brings a curated collection of art pieces that you can display on your TV when you’re not actively using it.
Hisense is also targeting gamers with its new TV, and has equipped CanvasTV with ALLM and VRR. It has a 2.0.2-channel speaker setup for Dolby Atmos audio. It comes with a teak frame, but it can be replaced with optional white and walnut frames that can be slid onto the TV’s body. Those frames are firmly secured using the magnetic mechanism. It even comes with the UltraSlim Wall Mount that helps the TV sit flush with the wall. All of this sounds exactly like Samsung’s The Frame TV, which was first launched in 2017.
The new TV from Hisense runs Google TV, though, which means it features built-in Chromecast and access to more apps. Samsung’s The Frame TV runs Tizen OS. The TV will be available in 55-inch and 65-inch sizes and has a starting price of $999. This undercuts Samsung’s The Frame TV by $100 (current price on Amazon).
It will be available in the US in late summer this year. So, if you want the Frame TV but wanted it to run Google TV, Hisense’s CanvasTV could be your option.

My elderly mother-on-law missed the computer age completely. She’s never been on Facebook and doesn’t use email. She doesn’t even have a mobile phone.
But she has a digital photo frame that her family sends their pictures to. She gets up every morning looking forward to seeing what fresh images of her grandchildren and great grandchildren have been added.

A digital photo frame must include a beautiful display or it’s pointless. And the one GPX built into its product delivers. It’s bright enough that the colors aren’t muddy. And the screen offers wide viewing angles so you don’t need to be right in front of the frame for images to look good.
To be clear, the display isn’t spectacular. My iPad looks a bit better, for example. But it’s quite good enough for a screen your mom will look at occasionally, not stare at for hours.
Admittedly, 7 inches isn’t the largest display around. You can certainly find larger digital photo frames. This one is small enough to fit easily on a bedside table or a crowded desk, though.
It’s not battery powered. The device needs a connection to a power socket.
So easy to use
When testing the GPX Capture 7″ Wifi Photo Frame, I was always considering whether I’d be willing to give it to my elderly mother who has minimal skills with computers. And I absolutely would … after I set it up.
If the device is going to someone like my mom, you should handle the setup. It’s not difficult, but it’s also not something you want to walk them through on the phone. But that’s also true for every digital photo frame I’ve ever used.
Once it’s set up, the device couldn’t be simpler. It automatically flips slowly through all the images and videos it has stored. And there’s a touchscreen so the user can move back and forth through the collection at their own pace.
Pictures will come in from the family with either a portrait or landscape orientation. You can switch the digital photo frame between these just by flipping it. And the image viewing software is smart enough to fill in around images in the different orientation.

The person using the GPX Capture 7″ Wifi Photo Frame doesn’t need any technical skills but whoever is adding the images does. At least enough to use an app.
The best way to add these is with the free Frameo application, either on iPhone or Android.
The process is simple enough. Use the app to go through the collection of pictures on your device, picking out good ones and move them to the digital photo frame over the internet/Wi-Fi.
You can not easily dump your entire photo library onto the frame, which is a good thing. The device has about 10GB of free space so it will not hold the 20,000 images you carry everywhere on your iPhone. You’ll need to go through and pick out the best — think of it as part of the gift to your mother.
Besides, the real highlight of this product is sending your mom new pictures and videos when you take them. She can see the ones from today’s ballet recital or baseball game immediately.
Multiple people can share images with the frame. You and all your siblings can send your mother pictures of her grandchildren.
Alternatively, you can copy pictures from a microSD card to the GPX digital photo frame. This is more of a hassle but it might be the best option if there’s no Wi-Fi network available.

Seeing how much my mother-in-law loves her digital photo frame makes me a fan of this type of device. And the one made by GPX looks great and works well.
But it’s a bit small and not the lowest cost option on the market. That said, don’t cheap out on an item you’re giving as a gift. In my testing, GPX’s product has been 100% stable. That bargain basement one you find online might cause problems for your mother — problems you’ll have to deal with.

Pricing
The list price for the GPX Capture 7″ Wifi Photo Frame is $99.99. A quick search found it available from a variety of retailers for as low as $79.
Earlier this week, Samsung launched its 2024 lineup of smart TVs in India. During the launch event, the company revealed the pricing of its Neo QLED and OLED TVs. While it mentioned The Frame TV, it did not reveal its pricing or features. The 2024 version of The Frame TV can now be purchased in India, and its pricing has been revealed.
The 2022 version of The Frame TV is still available for purchase, and its price has been dropped.
The Frame TV (2024) brings improved colors and efficiency
The new version of The Frame TV (LS03D) has been launched in India. It comes in five sizes: 43-inch, 50-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch. It uses a VA QLED panel with 4K resolution, 100% color volume, 1.07 billion colors, edge backlight, and a matte finish. It also features a 120Hz refresh rate (not available in 43-inch and 50-inch sizes), AMD FreeSync Premium, ALLM, VRR, and Super Ultra Wide Game View. It lacks Dolby Vision but features HDR10 and HDR10+ (Adaptive and Gaming).
Samsung says that the color accuracy of its new The Frame TV has improved. It now features ‘Pantone Art Validated Colors’ for more natural and realistic colors.
It has 2.0.2-channel speakers with 40W of total audio output. It also supports Dolby Atmos and Q-Symphony. It also features Active Voice Amplifier Pro, Adaptive Sound Pro, Object Tracking Sound, and 360 Audio.
It has four HDMI ports (one with HDMI 2.1), one optical port, one Ethernet port, one RF port, and two USB 2.0 ports. To make things more aesthetically pleasing, it has One Connect Box on the rear. Wireless connectivity features include AirPlay 2, Bluetooth 5.2, Tap Sound, Tap View, and Wi-Fi 5.
The TV runs Tizen OS 7.0 with a refreshed UI design and Samsung Daily+ interface. It uses the Quantum Processor 4K chip for AI-based 4K upscaling and general processing. It has Alexa, Bixby, Multi View, and SmartThings. It also brings Samsung Art Store – Streams, a complimentary set of regularly curated artworks and paintings fetched from the Samsung Art Store.
The Frame TV is now more power-efficient, thanks to an adjustable refresh rate. So, when you’re enjoying art on the screen, the TV lowers the refresh rate to conserve energy. It has motion and ambient light sensors, allowing you to determine the ambient conditions and adjust the picture accordingly. It has EyeComfort Mode, too.
Like the previous The Frame TVs, it features customizable magnetic bezels that you can adjust according to your preferences. It also comes with a Slim-Fit Wall Mount that allows you to mount the TV flush to a wall. It comes with a SolarCell Remote, which can charge through ambient light or the USB Type-C port.

The Frame TV (LS03D) has a starting price of INR 64,990 ($778) in India for the 43-inch version. The 55-inch version is priced at INR 97,990 ($1,173) and goes as high as INR 294,990 ($3,532) for the 75-inch version. Samsung is offering a cashback of INR 4,500 on the 43-inch version of the TV, INR 6,000 on the 50-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch versions, and INR 15,000 on the 75-inch version.
