Exclusive: inside Honda’s new concept EV that has an infinitely recyclable design – and looks like a Honda e

Sustainability Week 2024

This article is part of a series of sustainability-themed articles we’re running to observe Earth Day 2024 and promote more sustainable practices. Check out all of our Sustainability Week 2024 content.

Every year, the beautiful gardens of Milan’s Museo Diocesano are turned into a hive of activity, with established brands and start-ups showcasing innovative and often environmentally-conscious products as part of Milan’s annual Design Week. One of this year’s clear highlights was Honda’s achingly cool Sustaina-C Concept.

First unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show earlier this year, where it wore a bold red and blue color scheme, the vehicle was back sporting a much more eye-catching look, while the Japanese brand was up for revealing more about the project. And we’ve now picked up some exclusive sketches of the concept, which you can see below.

The diminutive but decidedly cool EV boasts lines that are eerily similar to the now largely defunct Honda e, while a pint-sized Pocket Concept folding electric scooter neatly stashes away in the boot for last-mile transport needs. But it is not the powertrain or the folding scooter that are key takeaways, but the exterior panels that physically make up the vehicle.

Fashioned from recycled acrylic resin, itself sourced from second-hand taillights, the Sustaina-C concept is the first vehicle of its kind that is, theoretically, infinitely recyclable.

Apple Watch Series X is expected to bring in a redesign, new sensors and other changes later this year. A designer created several images of a concept device that includes the leaked/rumored features.

Take a look.

Gorgeous Apple Watch Series X concept brings the leaks to life

In 2017, Apple celebrated the tenth anniversary of its handsets with iPhone X, a significantly redesigned device. 2024 is the tenth anniversary of Apple Watch, and another redesign is supposedly in offing.

Leaks from a reliable source predict a slimmer design with a larger screen, a new magnetic band connector and new sensors.

concept_central on X (formerly Twitter) turned these into a series of images and a short video. These are “based on the latest leaks and rumors as well as our own predictions,” according to the creator of the Apple Watch Series X concept.

More about the 2024 Apple Watch

Leaked features of the Apple Watch Series X that won’t show up in a concept image are its ability to detect hypertension and sleep apnea. And the device will supposedly hit a goal Apple has been work toward for years: detecting high blood pressure.

We’ll know for sure this autumn when the tenth anniversary model is expected to be announced to the world.

One of these concept lunar vehicles could join NASA’s Artemis V astronauts on the moon

[ad_1]

Three companies are vying for the opportunity to send their own lunar vehicle to the moon to support NASA’s upcoming Artemis missions. The this week that it’s chosen Intuitive Machines, Lunar Outpost and Venturi Astrolab to develop their lunar terrain vehicles (LTV) in a feasibility study over the next year. After that, only one is expected to be selected for a demonstration mission, in which the vehicle will be completed and sent to the moon for performance and safety tests. NASA is planning to use the LTV starting with the Artemis V crew that’s projected to launch in early 2030.

The LTV that eventually heads to the moon’s south pole needs to function as both a crewed and uncrewed vehicle, serving sometimes as a mode of transportation for astronauts and other times as a remotely operated explorer. NASA says it’ll contract the chosen vehicle for lunar services through 2039, with all the task orders relating to the LTV amounting to a potential value of up to $4.6 billion. The selected company will also be able to use its LTV for commercial activities in its down time.

Intuitive Machines, which will be developing an LTV called the Moon Racer, has already bagged multiple contracts with NASA as part of the Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program, and , Odysseus, to the moon to achieve . Venturi Astrolab will be developing a vehicle it’s dubbed Flex, while Lunar Outpost will be working on an LTV called Lunar Dawn. All must be able to support a crew of two astronauts and withstand the extreme conditions of the lunar south pole.

“We will use the LTV to travel to locations we might not otherwise be able to reach on foot, increasing our ability to explore and make new scientific discoveries,” said Jacob Bleacher, a chief exploration scientist at NASA.

Cool concept video shows possible iOS 18 generative AI features

[ad_1]

New generative AI features are expected to be a highlight of iOS 18, and a skilled artist created a concept video that presents an early look at how they might work.

The video also shows other suggested upgrades, like bringing Split View — Apple’s multitasking feature that lets two apps appear side by side on iPad (and Mac) — to the iPhone.

iOS 18 concept video shows the potential of generative AI

We don’t need to depend on leaks or rumors to learn that Apple has big plans for artificial intelligence — the head of the company flat-out said so. “I think there’s a huge opportunity for Apple with GenAI and AI,” CEO Tim Cook said in February. “We’re excited to share the details of our ongoing work in that space later this year.”

On the assumption that the iPhone will be the main beneficiary of these new capabilities, Kevin Kall, aka the Hacker 34, dreamed up multiple ways to integrate AI into the operating system. Then Kall created an iOS 18 concept video to show them off.

“Engage with Siri like never before. Now integrated into every app, Siri becomes your on-demand assistant for generating text and images, making your interactions seamless and more intuitive,” says Kall’s description of his creation. “Introducing a novel way to edit your photos — using just your voice. Command your iPhone to adjust, filter, or crop your photos, offering a hands-free approach to perfecting your images.”

Watch the iOS 18 concept video:

Over the years, the artist built a collection of concepts depicting future Apple devices. These always stay grounded in what’s really possible and don’t include tech that won’t be available for a decade or more.

Other possible new iPhone features

Generative AI features aren’t the only suggestions in Kall’s iOS 18 concept video. Others include carrying Split View over from iPadOS to iPhone. This would allow two applications to appear side by side, an arrangement that seems practical on a huge display like in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 16 lineup reportedly will bring even larger screens, among other improvements.

(Incidentally, iOS concept creators have been toying with the idea of adding Split View to the iPhone for years. We’ve seen concepts pitching the feature in iOS 13, iOS 14, iOS 15 and iOS 17.)

Kall’s other suggestions include making the iPhone Control Center more editable and adding custom lock screen buttons.

We’ll discover whether any of the features from the concept video make it into iOS 18 when Apple unveils it — almost certainly at WWDC24 in June.

Genesis X Gran Berlinetta

Genesis has unveiled a new concept car, the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept and you won’t be able to drive this car on the road, it will be available exclusively in Gran Turismo 7 from January 2024.

The 2024 X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept embodies the most emotional expression of the Genesis brand’s characteristic Athletic Elegance design philosophy. The Concept was born from a design study that demonstrates Genesis’ passion and intent for the Vision Gran Turismo series.

Genesis X Gran Berlinetta

The design language of the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept is pure and muscular, with volumes centered around the wheels. Its design orchestrates the cab backwards proportions with Genesis’ typical anti-wedge attitude that is structured around a virtual parabolical tensioned theory, which is common to the Genesis model line-up. The package design maximises the dash-to-axle ratio while moving the driver and powertrain rearward for a lean mid-engine layout.

“Our goal was to create a timeless design rooted in the essence of motorsport,” said Genesis Chief Designer John Krsteski. “We have an incredibly diverse global design team that are car and racing enthusiasts. The designers relished the opportunity to create a race car that featured Genesis design.
