New iPad preorders – where to buy Apple’s 2024 Pro and Air tablets

Apple has announced a new iPad Pro and iPad Air at its latest big reveal event – and both devices are available to preorder now. I’ve gathered together where you can buy these new tablets right here, including all of the top preorder deals for the brand-new iPad Pro and iPad Air.

Let’s start with the iPad Pro (2024). This model is available in either 11 inches or 13 inches with up to 2TB of storage and prices start at $999 / £999. That’s $200 more than the base price for both previous-generation models, but you do get the brand-new M4 chip, high-quality tandem OLED display and twice as much storage (256GB) as standard.

Meanwhile, the new iPad Air 6 also has 11-inch and 13-inch models with storage starting at 128GB. Prices start at $599 / £599 for the 11-inch version and $799 / £799 for the 13-inch – that’s the same as the last generation model. In terms of new features, the latest iPad Air is powered by the M2 chip for up to 50% faster performance compared to the M1.

Both devices are available to order right now and will ship from May 15. Currently, I’m only seeing them direct from Apple, but you can check in regularly for all the latest retailer availability below. I’ll be here to share any of the best preorder deals we see – if any – over the coming days.

Apple today introduced ultra thin iPad Pro models, which are the thinnest iPad models to date. In fact, Apple is using the tagline “thinpossible” to describe the new tablets, and with that reduction in thickness, there’s also been a reduction in weight.

Both ‌iPad Pro‌ models are lighter than the iPad Air models, despite the ‌iPad Air‌ models having the “Air” name that has historically been used to denote a light weight and a thin design when compared to Pro devices.

  • 13-inch iPad Pro – 1.28 pounds (579 grams)
  • 13-inch iPad Air – 1.36 pounds (617 grams)
  • 11-inch iPad Pro – 0.98 pounds (444 grams)
  • 11-inch iPad Air – 1.02 pounds (462 grams)

The 11-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ is 5.3mm thick, while the 13-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ is 5.1mm thick, which Apple pointed out is thinner than the iPod nano. Both ‌iPad Air‌ models are 6.1mm thick, comparatively, and they have noticeably thicker bezels.

Apple’s M4 chip arrives with a big focus on AI

Today at its “Let Loose” event, Apple detailed its new M4 chip featuring a major focus on improved AI and machine learning capabilities.

Built on a new second-gen 3nm process, Apple’s M4 chip features four performance and six efficiency cores along with a 10-core GPU. On top of that, Apple says it’s maintaining class-leading energy efficiency. In terms of general performance, Apple claims the M4’s CPU is 50 percent faster compared to M2, with a GPU that’s four times as fast.

Apple Let Loose Event:Apple’s online store has gone down ahead of its “Let Loose” event later today. Rumors suggest the company will announce new OLED iPad Pros and Apple Pencil Pro at the event.

Additionally, the 12.9-inch iPad Air might also make its debut at the event.

Catch Apple’s “Let Loose” event live

Despite being one of the world’s biggest tech giants, Apple typically takes down its online store a few hours before a media event. More than a technical limitation, this appears to have become a way for the company to create hype around its new product launches. This time around, the company has taken down its online store only 30 minutes before the event.

Like its last few product launches, Apple is not holding an in-person briefing for its “Let Loose” event. Instead, the pre-recorded event will stream on Apple’s YouTube page and website. There’s a small in-person media event happening in the UK, but Apple executives are unlikely to attend it.

While Apple events typically start at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET, “Let Loose” starts a few hours earlier, at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET.

New iPads, Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard are coming later today

If Apple’s invite for the “Let Loose” event did not already make it clear, new iPad Pros and Apple Pencil will be the star of the show. Rumors suggest the 2024 iPad Pros will feature an OLED panel, offering higher brightness levels and better contrast. They will reportedly be Apple’s first AI-focused devices and feature an M4 chip. These improvements will come at a cost, though.

The new Apple Pencil will be another highlight of the event, featuring haptic feedback for the first time. Apple might also revamp the Magic Keyboard for iPad with a new design and better layout. All products that Apple unveils today should be available for pre-order immediately or later this week.

With WWDC just over a month away, the event would also provide Apple with the perfect stage to showcase some of the AI-powered features it is working on.

Apple’s new Pride Collection heralds the launch of iOS 17.5 with dynamic wallpaper

Continuing a yearly tradition, Apple has revealed this year’s Pride Collection celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. The 2024 set consists of two new wallpapers for iPhones and iPads plus a new watch face and wristband for the Apple Watch.

Launching first on May 22 is the band which is called the Pride Edition Braided Solo Loop. Apple states the color scheme was inspired by multiple pride flags. The pink, light blue, and white threads are meant to “represent transgender and nonbinary” people, while “black and brown symbolize Black, Hispanic, and Latin communities” plus groups who have been hurt by HIV/AIDS. Laser-etched on the lug are the words “PRIDE 2024”.

Report: Apple’s First Foldables Coming in 2025 and 2026

Apple’s first foldable devices will reach mass production in 2025 and 2026, according to Haitong analyst Jeff Pu.

In a note to investors seen by MacRumors, Pu said that foldable devices are increasingly visible in Apple’s supply chain with accelerating progress. The company is expected to release a large-screen foldable iPad or MacBook to kick-off its foray into the product category before launching a higher volume foldable iPhone.

One Apple foldable with a 20.3-inch display will apparently start production in late 2025, which is sooner than previously expected. This time frame is said to be supported by information from Korean display makers, as well as American and Taiwanese hinge manufacturers.

Apple’s first foldable iPhone will allegedly feature a 7.9-inch or 8.3-inch display. The company may launch two foldables with these two display size options, or it may opt for a single display size option only. The foldable ‌iPhone‌ could form a new ultra-high end smartphone line for Apple. The device is currently scheduled to reach mass production late 2026, a year after the 20.3-inch foldable.

How to watch Apple’s iPad launch event on Tuesday

Spring is in the air and, believe it or not, so are iPads. Apple is holding a live event tomorrow to unveil new entries in its lineup of tablets at 10AM ET. The keynote, dubbed Let Loose, will be available to watch live in a number of ways. We are popping the below, so you can watch right here, but the event is also available on the and on the Apple TV+ app.

So what is the company ? Tablets, as far as the eye can see. Apple’s been coy as to which iPads are getting a refresh, but rumors and reports indicate a new OLED iPad Pro and an updated iPad Air.

The rumored iPad Pro may even skip the M3 chipset, as Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggested there is a “strong possibility” that the tablet could feature the next-gen M4. He also indicated that Apple is going to lean heavy on some new AI branding when it comes to the iPad Pro, referring to it as the company’s “first truly AI-powered device.”

Beyond potentially having an AI onboard to confidently, yet mistakenly, answer questions, this . That means a glorious display that should bring richer colors and deeper blacks to the line. OLED panels are also thinner than LCD panels, so this could be one slender gadget. There are also rumors that the iPad Pro will feature a glass back .

It’s been two whole years since an iPad Air refresh, which is a lifetime in tech years. The updated iPad Air will likely not have a fancy next-gen chipset or an OLED display. It could, however, boast an upgrade to the M2 chip. The current models still sport the antiquated M1. Reports also suggest that the iPad Air’s front-facing camera is moving to the landscape edge.

It’s also possible that the tablet has been bulking up on creatine, as rumors suggest that Apple is prepping the first 12.9-inch iPad Air. This would make it the most budget-friendly option for a large-screen iPad tablet.

The event won’t just be for iPads. It’ll also be for iPad accessories. To that end, expect Apple to reveal a revamped Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro line, which could be made from aluminum. In addition, Apple is expected to unveil a new Apple Pencil to replace the second-gen model. Some reports have even indicated the next Apple Pencil could work with , in addition to tablet apps.
