What the Apple Vision Pro is Like to Use (Video)

Apple Vision Pro

Diving into the world of AR and VR, the Apple Vision Pro emerges as a significant player, bringing with it Apple’s unique approach to what it terms ‘spatial computing’. In a detailed exploration by tech reviewer Marques Brownlee, users are offered an intimate glance at the user experience provided by this high-end device. For those curious about the latest in VR technology, particularly from a brand as influential as Apple, this review sheds light on what the new Apple AR headset is like.

Design and Build Quality

First and foremost, the Apple Vision Pro prides itself on its construction. Crafted from a combination of metal and glass, its design screams premium. However, it’s worth noting that this choice of materials contributes to the device’s weight, something users will need to consider. Among its features, it boasts a digital crown for navigation, speakers that support spatial audio, and an array of sensors designed for tracking and interaction, setting a new standard for what users can expect from build quality in VR headsets.

Technology and Features

Under the hood, the Vision Pro is nothing short of impressive. Powered by an M2 chip for heavyweight processing and an R1 chip dedicated to handling sensor data, it’s geared up for high performance. The headset offers eye-tracking capabilities and showcases a distinctive outward-facing display that represents the user’s eyes, known as Personas, enhancing social interaction. Running on Vision OS, it promises a 3D spatial computing experience that blurs the lines between virtual reality and augmented reality, thanks to its high-quality passthrough feature.

User Experience

The review highlights an intuitive and immersive user experience, facilitated by easy navigation through eye and hand gestures. A tailored calibration process ensures the device fits perfectly to the user’s physical features, which not only boosts comfort but also interaction precision. This personalization aspect is a key factor in enhancing the overall user experience.

Applications and Ecosystem

The Vision Pro doesn’t fall short in terms of its applications and ecosystem. It supports specially designed apps that leverage its unique capabilities, as well as standard iPhone and iPad apps. This seamless ecosystem integration, pulling in services and data from the user’s Apple ID, significantly enhances the device’s utility with familiar apps and services, making it a versatile addition to any tech enthusiast’s arsenal.

Personas and Social Interaction

Perhaps one of its most intriguing features is the Personas. This innovative aspect uses outward-facing displays to show either the user’s real eyes or digital representations. It’s designed to maintain a sense of connection with others while using the device, particularly emphasized during FaceTime calls to create a more engaging and natural interaction.

Pros and Cons

Despite its many virtues, the Vision Pro comes with its set of drawbacks. While the immersive quality, precise spatial positioning, and ecosystem integration are highlights, issues such as weight, comfort over extended periods, a limited selection of apps, battery life, and a steep price tag could deter potential users.

The Apple Vision Pro stands as a monumental step forward in the realm of virtual reality and spatial computing. Its unparalleled immersion, detailed tracking capabilities, and robust ecosystem integration set a new benchmark. However, its practicality and value proposition will likely vary based on individual user needs and preferences. As technology continues to evolve, the Vision Pro marks a significant milestone, hinting at the future of personal and social interaction in virtual spaces.

Apple stops signing iOS 17.2.1

iOS 17.3

Apple has recently launched iOS 17.3 and has stopped signing iOS 17.2.1, effectively preventing users from downgrading their iPhones to this earlier version. This step is typically taken by Apple following the introduction of a new iOS version that includes crucial bug fixes or security enhancements, as is the case with iOS 17.3. This measure ensures users cannot revert to a version that contains these resolved issues.

Currently, Apple is in the process of developing iOS 17.4, which is still in its beta phase. This upcoming update is expected to introduce significant modifications for iPhone users, notably including App Store alterations in Europe. These changes will permit the use of third-party app stores and sideloading to adhere to the European Union’s Digital Markets Act.

If you are still running iOS 17.2.1 it is recommended that you update to iOS 17.3 The iOS 17.3 update introduces several new features for iPhone users, among which is a novel Stolen Device Protection feature aimed at securing both the device and its data in the event of theft. It is advisable for users who haven’t yet upgraded their software to do so to benefit from the latest enhancements.

The anticipated release of the iOS 17.4 update is in early March. Apple has a deadline of March to align with the Digital Markets Act’s requirements, including the forthcoming adjustments to app store policies in Europe.

Apple Vision Pro gets unboxed (Video)

Apple Vision Pro

Are you eager to dive into the world of augmented and virtual reality with Apple’s latest offering? If so, you’ll be pleased to know that the new Apple Vision Pro, priced at a premium $3,500 for the 1TB version, is now stepping into the spotlight. This marks Apple’s initial venture into AR/VR headsets, and the anticipation is tangible. The unboxing video from Marques Brownlee gives us our first look at what Apple has been developing.

When you first lay eyes on the Apple Vision Pro, it’s the packaging that catches your attention. The large, elegantly designed box is just the beginning. Inside, you’ll find the headset itself, a pair of Zeiss optical lens inserts – a thoughtful addition for prescription glasses users, and an optional travel case for an extra $200. This case might seem like a splurge, but for a device of this caliber, it’s worth considering for protection and convenience.

The design of the headset is a testament to Apple’s commitment to sleek, user-friendly products. The Vision Pro is relatively compact, a refreshing change in the often bulky AR/VR market. Its standout feature is the Solo Knit band, a soft, stretchy fabric band that promises comfort without compromising on style. Additionally, there’s the Dual Loop band, offering an alternative fit that’s just as stylish and practical.

Apple doesn’t skimp on accessories. Along with the headset, you’ll find a microfiber cloth for keeping your device spotless, two types of light seal cushions (thin and thick) to suit your comfort preference, and the essential set of instructions. The headset’s power source is a 3,166 mAh battery, heftier than you might expect, and it comes with a 30W USB-C charger to keep your adventures going.

If you’re wondering how the Apple Vision Pro tailors to individual comfort, it’s all in the customization. You can choose from different band sizes and light seal cushions. The Dual Loop band is a notable feature here, ensuring better weight distribution and enhancing comfort, especially for those long VR sessions.

The setup process for the Apple Vision Pro is straightforward but intriguing. It involves selecting your preferred cushion and headband, connecting the battery, and powering up the device. A unique step is the face-scanning process, which requires an iPhone. This ensures the headset fits perfectly to your facial structure, enhancing the immersive experience.

The Vision Pro includes magnetic Zeiss lenses for those who wear prescription glasses, a thoughtful integration that ensures a seamless experience for all users. Its exterior is crafted from glass, so while it looks stunning, it calls for careful handling. This is where the optional travel case might come in handy, providing extra protection for your investment.

As you embark on your journey with the Apple Vision Pro, it’s clear that Apple has put considerable thought into every aspect of this headset. From its design to the accessories and the setup process, every detail has been fine-tuned to deliver an exceptional AR/VR experience. The price tag is steep, but for those invested in cutting-edge technology and immersive experiences, the Vision Pro might just be the next must-have gadget. We are looking forward to seeing how Apple develops the device over the next few years and how much cheaper it can become.

Apple releases watchOS 10.4 beta 1 to developers (Video)

watchOS 10.4 beta 1

Last week Apple released iOS 17.4 beta 1 and ipadOS 17.4 beta 1 and now Apple has also released watchOS 10.4 beta 1 for the Apple Watch to developers. This update comes on the heels of the official watchOS 10.3 release, marking a significant step forward in the Apple Watch’s capabilities.

Updating to watchOS 10.4 is a breeze. However, it’s essential to note that your Apple Watch needs to be connected to a charger even if it’s fully charged. The update size may vary, but the process itself is designed to be smooth and user-friendly. The video below from Half Man Half Tech gives us a look at the new beta of Apple’s watchOS.

For those who love expressing themselves with emojis, watchOS 10.4 introduces a variety of new emojis. These are also available in the iOS 17.4 beta, ensuring a consistent experience across your Apple devices.

Users of the latest Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra will appreciate the new ‘ignore this gesture’ function. It’s part of the Vision Pro device features, aimed at enhancing usability and providing a more intuitive experience.

The ‘Unlock with Apple Watch’ feature now allows users to unlock their iPhone using their Apple Watch. While convenient, the presenter in the video raises a potential security concern – the feature might still unlock the iPhone even when the watch is not being worn. Siri gets smarter with the ability to read messages in multiple languages, not just the default device language. This update allows for a more flexible and inclusive user experience.

A specific update for German users enables Siri to respond to both “Hey Siri” and “Siri” commands, making interactions with your device more natural and efficient.

If you’re considering updating to the beta, exercise caution. It’s advisable to use a backup device or wait for a more stable release, especially if you rely on your device for essential tasks.

Comparing watchOS 10.4 and iOS 17.4 Features

When looking at the broader picture, it’s interesting to note the comparison between watchOS 10.4 and iOS 17.4 features. The iOS update seems to encompass more significant changes, reflecting Apple’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its ecosystem’s functionality and user experience.

Updating to watchOS 10.4 Beta: A Step-by-Step Guide

If you are wondering how to update your Apple Watch to the latest beta, here’s a quick guide:

  1. Ensure your Apple Watch is at least 50% charged and placed on its charger.
  2. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  3. Navigate to ‘General’ and then ‘Software Update’.
  4. Tap ‘Download and Install’ for the watchOS 10.4 beta.

Remember, this is a beta version, so you might encounter some bugs or stability issues. It’s always wise to proceed with caution and consider the importance of your device in your daily routine.

The release of watchOS 10.4 beta 1 is not just about new features; it’s about refining the user experience. Whether it’s through new emojis that allow for more expressive communication or the practical ‘ignore this gesture’ function for the latest Apple Watch models, Apple demonstrates its commitment to enhancing device usability and satisfaction.

We are expecting the final version of Apple’s watchOS 10.4 to be released in early March, along with iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4, these updates brings changes to the Apple App Store to comply with the Digital Markets Act in Europe.
