Apple’s New iPad Pro Models Weigh Less Than iPad Air Models

[ad_1]

Apple’s “Let Loose” Event: Follow along with our live blog.

Apple today introduced ultra thin iPad Pro models, which are the thinnest iPad models to date. In fact, Apple is using the tagline “thinpossible” to describe the new tablets, and with that reduction in thickness, there’s also been a reduction in weight.

ipad pro thin light
Both ‌iPad Pro‌ models are lighter than the iPad Air models, despite the ‌iPad Air‌ models having the “Air” name that has historically been used to denote a light weight and a thin design when compared to Pro devices.

  • 13-inch iPad Pro – 1.28 pounds (579 grams)
  • 13-inch iPad Air – 1.36 pounds (617 grams)
  • 11-inch iPad Pro – 0.98 pounds (444 grams)
  • 11-inch iPad Air – 1.02 pounds (462 grams)

The 11-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ is 5.3mm thick, while the 13-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ is 5.1mm thick, which Apple pointed out is thinner than the iPod nano. Both ‌iPad Air‌ models are 6.1mm thick, comparatively, and they have noticeably thicker bezels.

‌iPad Air‌ pricing starts at $599, while ‌iPad Pro‌ pricing starts at $999.

The latest 15-inch M3 MacBook Air is $150 off right now

[ad_1]

The latest and greatest 15-inch M3 MacBook Air is on sale . This includes a sale discount of $100 plus a clipped coupon for $50, bringing the total price drop to $150. That’s not a bad deal for a laptop that just came out a couple of months ago.

Apple

The sale offers a discount of $100 and there’s a coupon to clip that gets another $50 off.

$1,150 at Amazon

We were surprised by , as the larger screen truly makes a significant difference when compared to the standard MacBook Air. We found that the big display allowed for longer periods of use before getting fatigued, which was aided by truly excellent battery life. This thing easily lasts an entire workday, with Apple suggesting 18 hours of battery life before requiring a charge.

One of our only complaints about the was regarding the chip itself, as the computer could struggle with certain intensive tasks. That’s been fixed with the inclusion of the M3 chip. It’s not as powerful as the M3 Pro, of course, but it certainly gets the job done, and then some.

This is also a fairly light computer, despite the size increase. It weighs around three pounds and can easily slip into a tote bag. However, the added size does make it a bit more cumbersome to carry than the 13-inch model. But that’s the trade off with any 15-inch laptop. There’s really only one serious downside to this model, and that’s with regard to port placement. The charging and USB-C ports are only on one side, which can get annoying when you have plenty of accessories to connect on a crowded desk.

This particular deal is for the base model, with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of solid-state storage. Every available iteration on Amazon, however, has been discounted. Don’t forget to clip that coupon.

Apple’s 2025 M4 MacBook Air: What to Expect

[ad_1]

Apple is working to introduce a new fourth-generation Apple silicon chip across the Mac lineup, and while the first M4 Macs are coming in 2024, the MacBook Air won’t get updated until 2025.

macbook air m2 13 inch
This guide highlights everything that we know about the next-generation ‌MacBook Air‌ so far.

M4 Chips

The 13-inch and 15-inch ‌MacBook Air‌ models were just updated with M3 chips in March 2024, so it’s no surprise that they’re not going to be the first devices to get the M4 chip. Apple plans to wait until 2025, so there will be about a year between the M3 and M4 chip lineups.

M4 AI Optimized Feature TealM4 AI Optimized Feature Teal
Rumors suggest that the M4 chip will have a focus on artificial intelligence to support AI features that are coming with the next round of software updates. Most AI talk has been about iOS 18, but Apple is expected to roll out AI integrations across its platforms. The M4 chip is expected to have a Neural Engine with more cores, with the Neural Engine handling AI and machine learning tasks. The M3 chip has a 16-core Neural Engine.

While Apple is working on M4, M4 Pro, M4 Max, and M4 Ultra chips, the ‌MacBook Air‌ models are expected to get only the standard M4 chip. There will likely be at least two variants of the M4, with the difference being the number of GPU cores. For the current ‌MacBook Air‌, for example, the base M3 chip has an 8-core GPU, but there is also a 10-core GPU option. The M3 CPU is the same for all versions, and that should be the case with the M4 as well.

The M4 will be built on Apples 3-nanometer process, much like the M3. There won’t be as big of a performance improvement between M3 and M4 as there was between M2 and M3 because there’s no change in node size, but we can still expect modest GPU and CPU speed boosts.

Design

Apple overhauled the ‌MacBook Air‌ design in 2022, and we’re not expecting the design to be tweaked with the 2025 refresh. Apple often waits several years between design changes, and there are no rumors that there will be a refreshed look.

macbook air m3 greenmacbook air m3 green
Apple is likely to stick with the 15.3 and 13.6-inch size options, and we can expect to see the same flat, MacBook Pro-style body with Force Touch trackpad, and display with notch. As of now, it looks like the 2025 ‌MacBook Air‌ refresh will be focused on internal updates.

Launch Date

According to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, the ‌MacBook Air‌ will get an update in the spring of 2025. Spring starts on March 20, 2025, and ends on June 20, 2025.

With new iPads expected right around the corner at Apple’s May 7 “Let Loose” event, you can expect discounts on older models. Check out Monday’s great deal at Best Buy — the lowest price on M1 iPad Air 5 (64GB, Wi-Fi) at $399. That’s a whopping $200 off.

And that’s not the only iPad deal at Best Buy going on right now. See others below.

Best Buy drops M1 iPad Air 5 to lowest-ever price

Many recent deals have sprung up on iPads, as a new batch appears to be just about to launch. But do you really need the latest and greatest? Some people insist on it, but others wait for just this kind of bargain to come along.

But when it’s the lowest-ever price as far as we can tell, don’t be surprised if you don’t get tons of choices.

This 2022 M1 iPad Air 5 is the 64GB model with Wi-Fi only and it’s available in one color only, starlight. But still, that’s a nice tablet.

I’ve been the proud owner of an M1 iPad Air with 256GB unified memory since they came out in 2022, and I have no complaints. The tablet has become my frequent companion, especially for reading news and books, but also for music and video. If you don’t want to pay full price for the latest models coming out, this is a great option.

2022 M1 iPad Air (5th gen) features:

  • 10.9-inch screen
  • 2360 x 1640 resolution
  • M1 chip with Neural Engine
  • Storage: 64GB
  • Works with Siri voice assistant
  • Bluetooth, Wi-Fi wireless connectivity
  • Lithium-polymer battery (10 hours use per charge)
  • Touch ID sensor
  • 12MP front and back cameras
  • Front-facing camera 1080p

And it normally costs $599.99! But that $200-off deal is Monday only, so act fast.

Other colors of that 64GB model are available at $100 off in various colors and the 256GB models are also $100 off in a choice of colors.

The space-age Typhur Dome might have solved the big problem with air fryers

[ad_1]

Air fryers can be great for saving time and energy, but on a practical level there does appear to be a flaw with the design. Most of today’s best air fryers are tall rather than wide, so while the internal volume is generous, the usable space can be rather limited. Unless you’re cooking something that comfortably fits those dimensions, food will end up being stacked, rather than sitting in a single layer. The result is  uneven crisping and the need to shake the contents mid-cook in order to achieve consistent browning.

Typhur aims to offers a solution with its Dome air fryer, which sports a wider, shallower design that lets you cook as much food as possible in one layer. It will fit 32 wings on a single rack, or a full 12-inch pizza, without having to cut it up. Since food isn’t stacked, the results should be better, more evenly crisped… which is what everyone wants from their air fryer, right?

The Dome is quite the hot (no pun intended) product at the moment, doing the rounds on TikTok and being featured by Kelly Clarkson on her show. It even comes with a endorsement by Brooklyn Peltz Beckham – and if that isn’t a recommendation you can trust, I don’t know what is.

Typhur Dome air fryer

Of course, the wider blueprint does mean you’ll need more counter space. For smaller kitchens, a model such as the new Ninja Double Stack air fryer, which has two drawers, one on top of the other, might offer a better solution. Or head to our roundup of the best small air fryers for more compact options.

It’s getting hot in here

I made air fryer shrimp and my friends thought I’d bought them

[ad_1]

I’m a huge fan of shrimp and always order them if they’re on a menu, but I’ve always assumed they’d be too difficult to cook at home. Especially because I like them to be soft, succulent and full of flavor, and I didn’t trust my cooking skills to achieve that.

However, while testing the best air fryers, I recently discovered an air fryer shrimp recipe that not only looked simple enough for even my often-questionable skills, but was packed full of spices and flavor.

Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Air with the M3 chip has never been cheaper

[ad_1]

Apple’s latest MacBook Air with the new M3 chip just hit its lowest price yet at Amazon. The retailer is taking $110 off the laptop’s list price, which is $10 cheaper than the sale price of $999 its been hitting lately. That’s not a huge difference, but still represents a new low for the two-month-old laptop. The discount applies to all four colorways of the entry-level 13-inch model, which gives you 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. If you need more memory, you can get the model with 16GB, which is down to $1,399, or $100 off, at Amazon and Best Buy.

Devindra Hardawar for Engadget

The base model of Apple’s new MacBook Air is $110 off.

$989 at Amazon

We think the 13-inch MacBook Air with the M3 chip is the best laptop for most people and, unsurprisingly, it’s also our top pick for the best MacBook you can buy. Engadget’s Devindra Hardawar gave it a score of 90 in his review when the computer came out last month. It’s slim and light yet sturdy, and the keyboard and trackpads are comfortable to use. The bright display is accurate and the battery will far outlast a typical workday. The new chip gives the notebook a performance boost according to our benchmark testing, though Devindra didn’t feel a noticeable difference when it came to performing real-world tasks — loading apps, editing photos and multitasking was just as speedy using the previous MacBook Air with the M2 chip.

In fact, we noted when the M3 Air was released that the M2 model is now an even better buy — thanks to a permanent price cut and proven stellar performance. It’s still part of Apple’s official MacBook lineup and Engadget’s Daniel Cooper points out, “the fact it’s available as the budget option is almost a flex.” Right now the base level 13-inch MacBook Air with the M2 chip is down to $849 at Amazon. That’s $150 off the list price and the lowest price we’ve tracked. If you don’t need the absolute latest chip, it’s a great buy right now.

Turns out the viral ‘Air Head’ Sora video wasn’t purely the work of AI we were led to believe

[ad_1]

A new interview with the director behind the viral Sora clip Air Head has revealed that AI played a smaller part in its production than was originally claimed.

Revealed by Patrick Cederberg (who did the post-production for the viral video) in an interview with Fxguide, it has now been confirmed that OpenAI‘s text-to-video program was far from the only force involved in its production. The 1-minute and 21-second clip was made with a combination of traditional filmmaking techniques and post-production editing to achieve the look of the final picture.
