US citizen dies in northwestern Slovenia rafting accident, 2 others injured

According to authorities, a US citizen was murdered and two others were slightly injured in a rafting accident in northwestern Slovenia on Wednesday.

The disaster occurred Tuesday while two rafts carrying 16 people and a guide were cruising down the Soca River, according to authorities. One of the boats collided with a boulder, and the occupants tumbled into the river. When the other boat arrived to assist, it also collided with a rock, and its passengers and a guide tumbled into the sea, according to authorities.

The current took away a 55-year-old American man, who was later discovered dead. Two more Americans were injured lightly. The rest of the passengers made it safely onshore.

The accident has been investigated by police.

Slovenia, a small European country, is recognized for its natural beauty and outdoor sports, with rafting down the Soca River being a popular tourist activity.
