WhatsApp gets an exciting new design on Android

[ad_1]

Last updated: May 10th, 2024 at 16:36 UTC+02:00

A few days ago, Meta started rolling out an update to WhatsApp for Android which brought a completely new user interface to the messaging platform that’s more convenient to use, offers new features, and looks cleaner and more modern. However, the company hadn’t made any announcement regarding it back then, most likely because it hadn’t made the redesigned UI available to everyone. Well, the brand seems to have completed releasing the app’s new design to everyone, and with that, Meta has made an announcement about it.

In a new post on X (previously known as Twitter) and Meta’s official website, Meta announced that it is “rolling out design updates to give WhatsApp a fresh new look, while keeping it familiar + easy to use.” The new design brings quite a few changes.

The story continues after the video…

First, it has tabs at the bottom of the screen instead of at the top, and now there are four tabs instead of three (Meta has replaced the Status tab with Updates and Communities tabs). Second, it offers chat filters right above the chats list, which makes it easier for you to find unread and group chats. Third, you now have a search bar instead of a search button. Fourth, you get a new color palette and new icons, all of which make the app look much better. You can check out the difference between the old and the new design in the image below.

Changes to the design of WhatsApp for Android from 2011 to 2024

To get the new design in WhatsApp on your Galaxy smartphone or tablet, update the app to the latest version from the Google Play Store. The redesigned UI is live in version 2.224.9.78 of the app on our Galaxy S23 in India. The new UI is also live on iOS.

WhatsApp for iPhone’s design refresh gives it a modern look

[ad_1]

WhatsApp has a fresh new look.

WhatsApp is getting a fresh new look with updated icons for a modern look. The revamped layout makes it easy to get to your chats quicker.

The refreshed WhatsApp design is rolling out for both iPhone and Android.

Meta has been testing the fresh WhatsApp look in beta for a few months now. The updated layout neatly integrates all the changes and features the messaging platform has received over the last year or two.

A key change of the revamped design is that it uses WhatsApp’s green shade as the accent color. Meta says it “considered over 35 different color iterations, ultimately aligning with WhatsApp’s iconic green and opting for a palette that allows for harmonious color pairings throughout the app.”

As a part of the design revamp, Meta has updated the icons to a rounded, outlined style to match its new iconography. All illustrations have also been updated.

Despite the modern look and feel, Meta has ensured the app retains the same familiarity. This is important since over a billion people use WhatsApp daily, and a big design overhaul can confuse non-tech-savvy folks.

WhatsApp for iOS gets a new attachment menu

On Android, the dark mode is now a shade darker than before. The change helps provide higher contrast and deeper tones to reduce eye strain. On iPhone, the new attachment menu should make sending files, creating polls, etc., easier. The chat background also gets a refresh and features new artwork.

WhatsApp’s design makeover comes within weeks of Meta rolling out passkey support for the iPhone app.

Meta is testing categories for WhatsApp Channels

[ad_1]

Last updated: May 9th, 2024 at 21:31 UTC+02:00

In June 2023, Meta introduced Channels on WhatsApp, a feature that allows you to receive updates from people and organizations. Well, after almost a year of launching it, Meta is working on improving Channels.

According to a new report from WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android (version 2.24.10.17) groups channels into categories. Reportedly, there are seven categories: Business, Entertainment, Lifestyle, News and Information, Organizations, People, and Sports. The new feature enables you to explore channels of a certain kind. For example, if you are someone who loves sports, you can select that category and the app will show you all the channels that offer sports-related updates.

Categories in WhatsApp Channels

At the moment, there’s no information about when Meta will make categories available in the stable version of WhatsApp but expect the new feature to become available to the public in the next few weeks/months.

WhatsApp facing issues on Android phones while sending videos

[ad_1]

Last updated: April 29th, 2024 at 18:35 UTC+02:00

WhatsApp is the most popular instant messaging app in the world, which means billions of people depend on it in their daily lives. Even a single issue can cause problems for millions of people. One such WhatsApp issue has surfaced recently, and several users are complaining about it online.

There are growing complaints from WhatsApp users that they are facing issues while sending videos. The folks at 9To5Google faced the same issue while trying to replicate the problem on Galaxy S series phones. When you try to send a video, WhatsApp throws an error that says, “Can’t send this video. Choose a different video and try again.” This issue appeared in the latest version (v2.24.9.34) of WhatsApp.

Another annoying thing about this issue is that this error appears after processing the whole video. It means you spend more time and still fail to send videos. This issue doesn’t appear while sending photos or other file types. It appears that videos shot or downloaded locally are facing this issue.

However, not all Android smartphones are facing this issue. A temporary solution is to downgrade to an older version of WhatsApp, and testing has revealed that the issue doesn’t appear on it.

WhatsApp will make calling unsaved numbers easier

[ad_1]

Last updated: April 26th, 2024 at 21:00 UTC+02:00

WhatsApp has made some big design changes over the past couple of years. However, most of the improvements come with little quality-of-life changes, and one such change will soon come to WhatsApp on smartphones.

WhatsApp will get an in-app dialer soon

WhatsApp seems to be working on an in-app dialer that will make it easier to call numbers that are not saved in the contact list. The screenshot below shows how that dialer looks. WABetaInfo spotted this change in the latest beta version (v2.24.9.28) of the app.

WhatsApp Dialer Screen Android Leak

As you can see above, it is a simple dialer with the T9 keypad in the lower half of the screen and a green dial button below the keypad. If you want to make a voice or video call to someone over WhatsApp, you need to save their number in your contact list and then make the call. You won’t have to go through that process with the new feature.

WhatsApp made a similar change to messaging in the past. You can already message numbers that aren’t saved in your contacts list. That change may have made life a little easier for a lot of people, and the company might have received positive feedback for that change. That may have encouraged the company to bring a similar change to calling.

WhatsApp for iPhone gains passkey support

[ad_1]

WhatsApp logo
Passkey support finally comes to WhatsApp for iPhone.
Image: WhatsApp

WhatsApp is making it easier to log into your account on your iPhone with passkey support. The feature will allow you to verify your identity through Face ID, Touch ID, or device PIN.

Once you have set up a passkey for your WhatsApp account, you can set up the app on a new iPhone through biometric authentication, skipping the SMS code entirely.

WhatsApp is the latest service to add passkey support

Passkey support in WhatsApp on iPhones comes seven months after the feature rolled out to the Android app. Setting up a passkey in WhatsApp is simple and requires jumping into the app’s settings on your iPhone.

WhatsApp is the latest service to add passkey support. So far, Apple, Amazon, Google, and 1Password have all added support for passwordless login. If you have not already, learn how to use passkey and get rid of passwords for good in your life.

Interestingly, WhatsApp’s key rival outside the US, Telegram, is yet to add support for passwordless login.

Setting up passkey in WhatsApp is easy

Meta is rolling out passkey support in WhatsApp in stages, so it might not appear immediately for you. This should change in the coming weeks though. Once the feature is rolled out, here’s how you can enable and use it:

  1. Open WhatsApp on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Settings > Account.
  3. Select Account > Passkeys, followed by Create Passkey.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions after this to set up a passkey.

You can revoke a created passkey from the same menu in the WhatsApp app.

Meta notes that passkey support in WhatsApp for iPhone is available on iPhone 8 and newer models running iOS 16 or higher. You can grab the latest WhatsApp for iPhone build from the App Store.

WhatsApp for iOS Gains Support for Passkeys

[ad_1]

Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp today announced that it is rolling out support for passkeys on iOS, a feature that will let WhatsApp users log in to their accounts on iOS devices using Face ID, Touch ID, or their device passcode.

Whatsapp Feature
Passkeys serve as a replacement for a traditional password, and because device authentication is required, passkeys put a stop to online attacks like phishing. With a passkey, there’s no password to steal, and no one-time SMS or authentication code that can be intercepted.

Passkeys are also more convenient, because logins are done with a quick ‌Face ID‌ or ‌Touch ID‌ scan rather than a password. WhatsApp passkeys can be enabled by opening up the app settings, choosing the Account section, and tapping on “Passkeys.”

Apple has supported passkeys since 2022, and they work on devices that run iOS 16 and later, iPadOS 16 and later, and macOS Ventura and later. Many companies have been implementing support for passkeys, including X (formerly Twitter), Google, TikTok, PayPal, Best Buy, Microsoft, PlayStation, and eBay.
