Google Chrome could soon let you assign a color to a tab group

Google Chrome for Android allows you to create groups of tabs, which is a very nifty feature as it helps you organize tabs. Furthermore, it also provides you with the option to give a tab group a name, which makes it easier for you to distinguish between various groups of tabs. Well, the company is now working on providing you with another way to distinguish between tab groups in Chrome for Android.

According to a new post from a Chrome expert on X/Twitter who goes by @LeoPeva64, Google is working on allowing you to give a tab group a color, which will make it easier for you to distinguish between various tab groups. According to the video they have shared, there are nine colors you can choose from. Once you select a color for a tab group, a thick dot (a circle) with that color will appear on the top-left corner of the tab group.

At the moment, the feature is live in Chrome for Android’s Canary channel. Just like any other feature that the company tests in this channel, there’s no guarantee that tab group coloring will make it to the stable version of the web browser. However, we hope that it does as it seems like a very useful feature, especially if you don’t want to spend time thinking about a name for a tab group and typing it out.

We like the Galaxy Tab S9 tablets because they can do everything you’d want a tablet to do, plus a little more with added productivity features. The tablet’s DeX mode creates an environment similar to a PC in which you can easily flit between different apps and windows, making it easier to do more complex tasks. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processors are speedy to support all of that productivity and the OLED displays look gorgeous. One of our few concerns in recommending the Tab S9 series is they tend to be expensive, but the $130 discount takes away some of that hesitation.

The base model that’s on sale here comes with 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, an 11″ Dynamic AMOLED touchscreen, an IP68 dust- and water-resistance rating and support for Wi-Fi 6E. The included S Pen can be used for taking notes by hand, doodling and making art. Other accessories, like the keyboard case, are sold separately, and we can’t help but notice the current price of that add-on is nearly the same as the discount on the tablet.

For a less expensive tablet, it’s worth noting that the budget recommendation from our Android tablet guide is also on sale. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ 11” Tablet is $50 off and down to $220 at Walmart. The Google Pixel Tablet with charging speaker dock, which we think is the best pick for a tablet that doubles as a smart display, is 20 percent off and down to $399 at Amazon. That matches its all-time low.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) pricing and availability revealed

Earlier this week, Samsung silently launched the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) by listing the tablet on the company’s official website for Romania. However, the brand had neither revealed the price nor the availability details of the device. Well, that’s changing today. Samsung has launched the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) in the United Kingdom, and along with it, the company has revealed the tablet’s price and availability details for the region.

According to Samsung’s official website for the UK, the 64GB storage variant of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) costs GBP 349 and the 128GB storage variant of the tablet costs GBP 379 in the country. Both models are readily available to purchase from the website. However, unlike in Romania, the tablet is available in only one color option in the UK, and that’s Grey. It’s also worth mentioning that the device comes in a Wi-Fi-only variant in the country. There’s no cellular model on offer in the region.

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) is a refreshed version of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022) which was a refreshed version of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2020). The latest model shares most of its specifications with its predecessor, except for having a less capable processor and better connectivity options.

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite has a 10.4-inch LCD with 2,000 x 1,200 pixels resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. The tablet used the Exynos 1280 SoC at the helm. It comes in two memory configurations globally: 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 4GB RAM + 128GB storage. There’s a microSD card slot onboard.

It runs on Samsung’s Android 14-based One UI 6.1 software customization. You get an 8MP camera at the rear and a 5MP sensor at the front. The tablet packs a 7,40mAh battery. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.3, and USB Type-C port. The device also comes bundled with an S Pen.

One UI 6.1 update rolling out for the Galaxy Tab S9 series

Samsung is rolling out One UI 6.1 to the Galaxy Tab S9 series. The Galaxy Tab S9, Galaxy Tab S9+, and Tab S9 Ultra are the only tablets included in the initial rollout, with no word from Samsung on when other tablets will get the update.

They are also the only tablets that the company says will receive the Galaxy AI features through the One UI 6.1 update. Samsung is reviewing the possibility of bringing Galaxy AI to older flagships, but right now, only flagship phones and tablets launched in 2023 are on the eligibility list.

Europe is the first region to get the Galaxy Tab S9 update. Only the 5G variants are being updated at this time, and it could be a few days before the Wi-Fi variants join the party. However, in some regions, the Wi-Fi variants may receive the update before the 5G variants.

Once the One UI 6.1 update reaches your country/region, you will be able to download it by tapping the Download and install option in the tablet’s Settings » Software update menu. There’s also the option to upgrade your tablet using firmware available in the SamMobile firmware archive, though you will need a Windows PC for this.

One UI 6.1 is already coming later than we had hoped, but depending on your region, you can expect to wait a few more days for it to arrive on your Tab S9, S9+, or S9 Ultra as these updates are rolled out in phases and gradually expand to all regions.

Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) re-refresh is official with a new old chip

For some time now, rumors about Samsung re-releasing the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite a second time have been floating around. It sounded unexpected, but it turned out it was all correct. Samsung kicked off the week with a surprise launch of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) tablet in Europe.

The re-refreshed Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) tablet popped up on the official Samsung online store in Romania today. It’s not yet available for purchase, so there are no pricing details. However, the tablet and all its specifications are now confirmed.

In the marketing material, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) is showcased in two familiar-looking colors, Chiffon Pink and Oxford Gray, and one new Mint option. However, only the Gray and Mint options are selectable at the online shop in Romania

Spec-wise, the tablet features 64GB or 128GB of storage, 4GB of RAM, and a newer chipset that’s actually been around for some time.

Samsung’s official store page for the refreshed Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) doesn’t specify exactly which chip the “new” tablet has, but the 2.4GHz and 2.0GHz frequencies reconfirm we’re looking at an Exynos 1280 SoC. It’s not exactly new, but it is newer than the original Exynos 9611 used by the 2020 Tab S6 Lite version or the 2022 model’s Snapdragon 720G/732G.

Aside from the new chip, nothing else appears to have changed about the re-refreshed Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024). It has a 10.4-inch TFT display with a resolution of 2000 x 1200, an 8MP primary camera, a 5MP selfie camera, and a microSD card slot. It even has a 3.5mm headphone port, which is seldom seen on mobile devices nowadays.

Another benefit of the newer chip is that the refreshed 2024 tablet model has improved connectivity, including Bluetooth 5.3 instead of 5.0. However, it has LTE connectivity and doesn’t boast any 5G capabilities.

The battery has the same 7,040mAh capacity as before, and the tablet ships with an S Pen included in the box. Furthermore, the 2024 Galaxy Tab S6 Lite ships with the latest One UI 6.1 version from Samsung, but there’s no mention of any Galaxy AI features. The Exynos 1280 SoC is probably not powerful enough to handle Samsung’s Advanced Intelligence.

Speaking of the Exynos 1280, it’s worth noting that it’s almost as old as the original Galaxy Tab S6 Lite refresh released in 2022. The chip debuted in March 2022, and the most recent device that uses it, apart from this tablet refresh, is the Galaxy A25.

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, originally launched in 2020 and then refreshed in 2022, will debut once again with the same design and updated internals. The tablet will come in a new color, as revealed in the newly leaked images you can see below.

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) will be available in three colors: Chiffon Pink, Mint, and Oxford Gray. While the Chiffon Pink and Oxford Gray colors were already seen with the 2022 version of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, the Mint color option is completely new. The tablet’s design stays the same as its 2022 version.

The upcoming affordable tablet has a 10.4-inch LCD screen with 2,000 x 1,200 pixels resolution and a bundled S Pen. Previous reports indicate that the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) will come equipped with the Exynos 1280 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB/128GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot. It will run Android 14-based One UI 6.1 out of the box.

On the front, the tablet has a 5MP selfie camera. On the rear, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) has an 8MP camera. Other connectivity options include GPS, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

According to previous reports, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) will have a starting price of €429 for the Wi-Fi-only 64GB variant and go as high as €519 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular 128GB variant.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 starts showing signs of existence, battery gets certified

After launching at least seven tablets in the second half of last year, Samsung is expected to launch at least three new tablets later this year. The Galaxy Tab S10, Galaxy Tab S10+, and the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra will likely be the high-end tablets to be launched in 2024, and their signs of existence have been spotted.

The battery of the Galaxy Tab S10+ has been certified (via MySmartPrice) by the Korea Testing & Research Institute. It carries model number EB-BX828ABE and has received safety certification from the South Korean authority. However, its battery capacity hasn’t been revealed due to blurry images from the testing procedure. It will likely be around 10,000mAh, similar to previous-generation Plus variants of Samsung’s high-end tablets.

This isn’t the first time this battery has appeared online. It was spotted last month in India’s BIS safety certification database. With Samsung getting the go-ahead from several certification authorities for the Galaxy Tab S10 series, we will likely see the launch of those devices in the second half of this year. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor could power all those devices. They could have Dynamic AMOLED 2x screens, quad-speaker setups, and an S Pen.

Previous reports claim that the Galaxy Tab S10 will bring some improvements to the S Pen, including its latency and the placement of the action button. The S Pen might also get IP68 certification and some attachments. Samsung is also said to be improving the productivity factor of its upcoming high-end tablets by bringing in improved ecosystem and cross-device functionality features.

The 11-inch screen is a joy to behold and probably the best fit for most people. The S9+, which is also on sale, boasts a particularly large 12.4-inch AMOLED display. Those with small hands should probably demo that unit before making the splurge.
