Apple sets WWDC24 kickoff date for June 10

[ad_1]

WWDC24, this year’s big Apple developer conference, will start with a live-streamed event on June 10, the company said Tuesday. During the keynote, Apple undoubtedly will reveal its plans for iOS and its other computing platforms, with a rumored focus on AI.

After the keynote, set to stream for free at 10 a.m. Pacific on June 10, the rest of the week will be filled with prerecorded online sessions that will help developers implement the new features and APIs in their apps.

The conference will take the same format of the mixed online/in-person event Apple utilized the last two years.

Apple has hosted its Worldwide Developers Conference every year since the early ’90s. Although the event focuses on coders who build third-party apps that run on Apple devices, the annual WWDC keynote provides a road map to Cupertino’s plans in coming years.

For around the last 15 years, Apple has showcased major versions of its software at the conference in the summer, then released the updates to everyone in the fall. This cycle gives developers time to implement new system features in their apps before everyone installs the update.

“Free for all developers, WWDC24 will spotlight the latest iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS advancements,” Apple said, describing this year’s event in today’s press release.

Apple reportedly will bring big AI-powered changes to iOS 18 this year, as well as new options for iPhone Home Screen customization. A Monday tweet from Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior VP of worldwide marketing, dropped another clue that artificial intelligence will be on the menu at WWDC24.

“Mark your calendars for #WWDC24, June 10-14. It’s going to be Absolutely Incredible!,” Joswiak wrote. (Note the capitalization.)

WWDC24: Giving third-party developers the tools they need

Apple will live-stream the WWDC24 keynote on its website, on YouTube and in the Apple Developer app on June 10 at 10 a.m. Pacific. Later that day, the Developer State of the Union will provide additional details to developers on how some of the new features can be implemented in their apps for iPhone, Mac and more.

Throughout the rest of the week, developer session videos will be published daily giving nitty-gritty details on how the various new software features and APIs work in a lecture format with downloadable example code.

Susan Prescott, vice president of Apple’s worldwide developer relations, said, “We’re so excited to connect with developers from around the world for an extraordinary week of technology and community at WWDC24.”

The Keynote plays on the main stage for developers and students in attendance.

Formerly a live event, WWDC assumed a new post-pandemic format in 2022 that mixes remote and in-person media events. Developers, students who won the Swift Student challenge, and media representatives will watch the live-streamed keynote on Apple’s campus in Cupertino. The daylong event also will include tours of Apple Park, lunch at Caffè Macs and a meet-and-greet with Apple employees.

Anyone with a paid Apple Developer account can apply for an invitation to the exclusive event.

Rivian R2, R3, R3X Electric SUVs: Price, Specs, Release Date

[ad_1]

Yes, things sure have changed—for Rivian and for the world—since the automaker debuted in the US in 2021 and recorded the largest IPO the stock market had seen in seven years. One big change is that interest rates are higher, which makes large purchases more expensive to finance, and makes buyers cagier about purchasing anything, new cars included.

The conventional wisdom on electric vehicles has shifted too. Sales data suggests electric-auto makers have made strides among higher-income early adopters, who tend to get excited about any sort of new technology. Indeed, these are the sort of drivers right in Rivian’s crosshairs: weekend warriors with change to spare. But now, automakers must reach normal drivers, who will be less patient, and less forgiving, in adapting to a new kind of car—much less paying a premium for the privilege. As Scaringe put it on a recent call with investors: “How do we get the 93 percent of the market that’s not buying an EV to get excited about the product?”

Photograph: Rivian

Rivian hopes that a more affordable option will do some of that work. At $45,000, the new vehicle is more comparable to middle-of-the-road EVs, including the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, and the Tesla Model 3. It’s also closer to last month’s average US vehicle transaction price—for vehicles with any powertrain—of $47,400, according to Kelley Blue Book.

Still, there should be plenty of more affordable competition by the time the R2 starts rolling off the production line in two years. A compact “urban” truck from the California startup Telo Trucks—designed by Yves Béhar’s Fuseproject—could arrive by then. So might Kia’s EV3, now only a concept. Ford is planning production of a new electric Explorer. Meanwhile, Tesla has said it will refresh its platform in 2025 with a new, “next-gen” vehicle that may finally carry the company’s mythical $25,000 price point.

You’ll have the freedom to tweak the game settings to your liking, thanks to the PC version’s unlocked frame rates and customizable controls. Whether you’re a fan of using a keyboard and mouse or prefer the feel of a controller in your hands, this game has got you covered.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut

“The year is 1274. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan—until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima, wreaking havoc and conquering the local population. As one of the last surviving samurai, you rise from the ashes to fight back. But honorable tactics won’t lead you to victory. For PC players who are new to the game, here’s an overview of everything that is included:

  • Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is an action-adventure game set in feudal Japan. Protagonist Jin Sakai was raised and trained in the ways of the samurai. His world is shattered when a Mongol invasion defeats the samurai army of his home on Tsushima island, and he is faced with a difficult decision: honor the tradition and customs of his upbringing and maintain a fight he cannot win, or deviate from his samurai path to protect the island and its people by any means necessary.
  • In his quest to reclaim Tsushima, Jin seeks the guidance and support of old friends and new unlikely allies. He must break away from tradition, become a new kind of warrior, and protect what’s left of his home at all costs.
  • Iki Island Expansion – In this story expansion, Jin discovers new locations, characters, and enemies on a mysterious island. The island of Iki is a wild, lawless land of raiders and criminals. Jin will have to bring all his skills to defeat the enemy and save Iki.
  • Legends – Inspired by Japanese folk tales and mythology, this cooperative multiplayer experience consists of two-player story missions and four-player wave-based survival missions, as well as the competitive two-versus-two Rivals mode. Choose one of four classes: Samurai, Ronin, Hunter or Assassin and play with friends or via online matchmaking.
  • Kurosawa Mode – Experience the game in black and white with film grain effects, as well as Japanese dialogue and English subtitles. This mode is inspired by the movies of legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa.

The visuals are nothing short of spectacular, with support for ultrawide and multi-monitor setups that will pull you right into the game’s beautiful landscapes. And if you’re all about high performance and top-notch image quality, you’ll be thrilled to know that the game comes packed with the latest technologies like NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR 3, Intel XeSS upscaling, and NVIDIA DLAA. These features work together to make sure that every scene is as smooth and detailed as possible.

For those who like to have options when it comes to controllers, you’ll be happy to hear that the game supports a wide range, including the PlayStation DualSense controller. This means you can enjoy an authentic gaming experience that feels just right for you. And if you’re the type who likes to get a head start, pre-purchasing the game comes with some neat early in-game unlocks. You can add the game to your wishlist and pre-purchase it on Steam and the Epic Games Store right now.

The story of Ghost of Tsushima is one that will keep you on the edge of your seat. You’ll play as Jin Sakai, a samurai who is determined to protect his homeland from a Mongol invasion. The Iki Island expansion adds even more depth to the narrative, giving you more to explore and discover. And if you’re looking for something beyond the single-player experience, the Legends mode offers both cooperative and competitive gameplay that will keep you coming back for more. Plus, there’s a special Kurosawa Mode that pays tribute to the legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa by giving the game a classic black and white look.

The launch of Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on PC is a significant event for both Sucker Punch Productions and the world of PC gaming. With its carefully refined engine, stunning visual upgrades, and a story that will pull you in from the very start, this release is set to make a big splash. So, mark your calendars and prepare for an unforgettable journey into the heart of ancient Japan.

OpenAI AGI timeline and release date leaked

OpenAI Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) timeline and release date leaked

A document allegedly leaked from OpenAI suggests the organization’s plans to develop Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) by 2027. The leaked information, which is speculative and not entirely verifiable, outlines a roadmap for OpenAI’s development of AGI, including the training of a 125 trillion parameter multimodal model named Q-Star, which was completed but not launched due to high costs.

The leaked document also discusses the renaming of GPT models and the cancellation of certain projects. It references various models and leaks, including Arus and GOI, and touches on the levels of AGI, from emerging to artificial superintelligence. The document further delves into the importance of parameter count in AI models, comparing it to synapses in the human brain, and discusses the scaling of AI performance with parameter count. It mentions lawsuits, such as one from Elon Musk, which have impacted OpenAI’s timeline. Additionally, the document covers the concept of chinchilla scaling laws, which suggest that AI performance can be significantly improved by training on more data, even with fewer parameters. Let’s take a closer look at the details.

A document that’s believed to come from OpenAI has been making the rounds, and it’s got people talking. It suggests that by 2027, we could be sharing our world with Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)—machines that have the ability to understand and learn any intellectual task that a human being can.

OpenAI AGI release date leaked

At the heart of this potential breakthrough is a colossal AI model known as Q-Star. It’s a giant in the world of AI, with a staggering 125 trillion parameters. Parameters are like the brain cells of AI, and the more you have, the smarter the AI can potentially be. Think of it like the leap from a calculator to a supercomputer. But creating something this advanced doesn’t come cheap, and the costs have pushed back its release.

OpenAI isn’t just putting all its eggs in one basket, though. The document hints at a shift in their game plan. They’re moving away from their well-known GPT models, which have been a big deal in the AI world. Instead, they’re focusing on new models, like Arus and GOI, which are stepping stones on the path to AGI. Each model is a rung on the ladder, taking us closer to the day when AI can match human intelligence. Watch the video below kindly created by the TheAIGRID to learn more about the AGI timeline from OpenAI and what it could mean for the future of artificial intelligence.

Here are some other articles you may find of interest on the subject of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) :

But the road to AGI isn’t just about building bigger and better AI models. It’s also about navigating through some tricky legal waters. OpenAI has had its share of legal tangles, including a lawsuit involving tech mogul Elon Musk. These legal battles show just how challenging it can be to push the boundaries of technology.

There’s also something called chinchilla scaling laws that the document talks about. This is a pretty interesting idea. It suggests that you can make AI smarter not just by adding more parameters but by training it with more data. It’s like teaching a child with more books rather than just giving them a bigger classroom. This could mean we can train AI more efficiently and cheaply, which would be a big deal for everyone in the field.

So, what does all this mean for you and me? If this document is the real deal, it means that AGI might not be as far off as we thought. OpenAI is pushing forward, developing models like Q-Star, and exploring new approaches with Arus and GOI. They’re also dealing with the legal hurdles that come with innovation and looking into smarter ways to train AI.

The idea of AGI is both exciting and a bit daunting. It’s a new frontier in technology, and OpenAI seems to be leading the charge. As we edge closer to 2027, the anticipation for what might come next is building. Will we see machines that can think and learn like us? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure—the journey there will be one to watch.
