Galaxy M35 is likely just a rebranded Galaxy A35

Earlier this month, we learned that Samsung is developing a new M-series smartphone, the Galaxy M35, which will be a rebranded variant of the Galaxy A35, a phone that the company launched last week. However, there was no concrete information about the existence of the device. Well, that’s changing today.

A new smartphone from Samsung, bearing the model number SM-M356B, has been spotted on Geekbench. Going by the model number, this device seems to be the Galaxy M35, which means that we have our first proof that the phone exists. What’s even better is that the listing also reveals the phone’s specs.

According to the benchmarking platform, the Galaxy M35 has a motherboard with model number s5e8835, which is tied to the Exynos 1380 chipset. So, it is safe to assume that the Galaxy M35 will have the Exynos 1380 SoC, the same processor as the Galaxy A35. The listing also revealed that the phone has 6GB RAM, which could be one of the memory configurations of the device, and that it runs on Android 14 (One UI 6.0 or One UI 6.1).

At the moment, that’s all the solid information we have on the Galaxy M35. That being said, we expect the phone to come with the same features as the Galaxy A35 except for two: the M-series device could miss out on an IP rating for dust and water resistance and could come with a larger battery pack.

A few days ago, Samsung launched the Galaxy A35 and the Galaxy A55, and the phones are available for purchase in a few countries already. Both phones have improved screens, better-quality cameras, and faster processors.

DXOMark has tested the cameras and displays of the Galaxy A35 and the Galaxy A55, revealing that they both have pretty good cameras and segment-leading screens. As per DXOMARK’s testing, the Galaxy A35 has the best screen in the sub-$400 price segment, while the Galaxy A55 has the best screen in any phone priced at $500 or lower.

In the tests, the peak screen brightness of the Galaxy A55 reached 1,638 nits, which is considerably higher than that of the Galaxy A54 (1,344 nits) and reaching that of the Galaxy S23 (1,600 nits). The phone also performed really well with color accuracy, even under direct sunlight. It also performed really well while playing HDR videos.

The Galaxy A35, which ranked first in the sub-$400 segment, reached 1,620 nits of peak brightness. Similar to the Galaxy A55, the Galaxy A35 also has great colors and visibility under direct sunlight. Color shift was also not an issue, especially compared to other phones in the segment. However, there have been complaints about unwanted screen touches.

The Galaxy A35, as per DXOMARK’s testing, has the second-best camera performance in its price segment. The phone is reportedly great for outdoor photography and video recording.

The Galaxy A55 has the fifteenth-best camera performance in its price segment, according to DXOMark’s review. The phone turned to be pretty good for taking stills and recording videos in non-challenging conditions. However, the image quality wasn’t that great in scenes with backlight or in low-light conditions. It also struggled a bit in scenes with motion.

Galaxy A35 gets a software update less than a week after launch

The Galaxy A35, along with the Galaxy A55, is the first mid-range Samsung phone that runs Android 14 and One UI 6.1 out of the box. It is eligible for four major OS upgrades and security updates for five years, and software support for the phone is off to a good start.

The Galaxy A35 was announced and went on sale in some markets on Monday, March 11, and just three days later, it is already getting its first software update. It’s unclear how widely it is available, however. As of March 14, we can only confirm that it has been released in India.

The update comes with the firmware version A356XXU1AXBB, and while it’s not just a security update, we don’t know what it brings to the phone as the changelog doesn’t include any specifics. But we can assume that the update doesn’t do much, as it is only around 270MB in size.

It even lacks the March 2024 security patch. The A35 launched with the February security patch preinstalled, and that won’t change once the update in question has been installed on the phone.

Since the Galaxy A35 launched less than a week ago, there probably aren’t a lot of people using it at this time, but the update will be waiting for buyers once they get the A35 and set it up. As with all Galaxy smartphones, updates will be downloadable from the A35’s Settings » Software update menu.

The Galaxy A3x series is finally starting to look like a modern phone, thanks to one long-awaited design upgrade Samsung introduced today. The company just unveiled the Galaxy A35, and one design improvement that really stands out in the eyes of anyone who knows the recent history of the A3x series is the Infinity-O display.

Samsung’s new Galaxy A35 is the first in its line to adopt a circular cutout for the selfie camera, or what Samsung calls an Infinity-O design.

Stepping into the modern design era

The Galaxy A5x series has had an Infinity-O display since the Galaxy A51, but the Galaxy A3x lineup had to work with the Infinity-U cutout for a few more years. Not anymore!

The lower-mid-range series has finally adopted the selfie cutout, and this design element is likely here to stay for Galaxy A3x generations to come. It certainly is one of the striking design elements separating the new Galaxy A35 from its predecessors.

Conversely, it is one characteristic that blends the Galaxy A35 into the pot of similar-looking higher-end phones, like the Galaxy A55, S23 FE, and even Galaxy S24.

The one design element that separates the Galaxy A35 from other, more expensive Samsung phones is the so-called Key Island that raises the side buttons from the otherwise flat frame. But put the right Samsung case on the Galaxy A35, and at a glance, most people will likely mistake it for a higher-end model.

As for other design elements, the Galaxy A35 still has a plastic frame, but it’s been elevated to a full-glass sandwich build with an unspecified type of glass protection at the back and Gorilla Glass Victus+ at the front. But, who knows?! The next generation A3x models might very well adopt a metal frame, much like the Galaxy A55 did this year.

Samsung Galaxy A35 launches with modern design, triple-camera setup

Samsung has unveiled its new mid-range smartphone, the Galaxy A35, featuring a modern design and camera improvements. It succeeds the Galaxy A34, bringing a faster processor and brighter 120Hz OLED screen. It is also among the first mid-range phones with One UI 6.1 pre-installed.

There is an in-display optical fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, and an IP67 rating (for dust and water resistance).

Samsung has improved the Galaxy A35’s camera capabilities. It features a 50MP primary camera with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 5MP macro camera on the rear. On the front, it has a 13MP selfie camera. It can record 4K videos at 30 frames per second using its front and rear (50MP) cameras. The company says VDIS improves video stabilization, while Super HDR Video improves colors and dynamic range.

The Galaxy A35 comes equipped with the Exynos 1380 processor, 6GB/8GB RAM, 128GB/256GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot. Thanks to the new 5nm processor, the phone should offer 18% improved CPU performance and 15% faster GPU performance, which is decent enough for gaming. This is the same chipset that was used in the Galaxy A54 last year.

This new mid-range phone’s connectivity features include GPS, 5G, a dual-SIM card slot (and eSIM), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and supports 25W fast charging.

The phone will be available in four colors: Ice Blue, Lavender, Lemon Yellow, and Navy Blue.
