El candidato a gobernador del Partido Democrático Popular (PDP) del estado de Edo, Aso Ighodalo, ganó en el área de gobierno local sureste de Esan.

La Comisión Electoral Nacional Independiente anunció el domingo que Ighodalo y el Partido Popular Democrático obtuvieron 14.199 votos, derrotando al Partido del Congreso Todos los Progresistas, que obtuvo 8.398 votos.

El Partido Laborista quedó en un distante tercer lugar con 98 votos, según la Comisión Electoral Nacional.
