New Mercedes CLE Cabriolet starts at €66,402

Mercedes CLE Cabriolet

Mercedes Benz is launching its new Mercedes CLE Cabriolet and the car will go on sale in Europe in April,  pricing will start at €66,402 on the road, and the car comes with a range of new features and a sporty design.

There will be three models available at launch, the CLE 220 d, the CLE 200, and the CLE 200 4Matic, you can see more information about the features of this new convertible below.

Mercedes CLE Cabriolet

The AIRCAP® electric wind deflector system and the AIRSCARF® headroom heating system are standard equipment. Both systems have been further developed. They make open-top driving in cool outside temperatures more pleasant. AIRCAP® consists of two elements: the wind deflector on the windscreen directs airflow over the occupants’ heads. It extends at the touch of a button. The automatic wind deflector behind the rear head restraints reduces turbulence more efficiently. AIRSCARF® produces even warmer airflow around the necks and throats of front-seat occupants – even in unfavourable wind conditions.

Mercedes CLE Cabriolet

The standard-fit fabric acoustic soft top also contributes to the year-round usability of the CLE Cabriolet. It is available in the colours black, red or grey. The multi-layer structure with extensive insulation provides the basis for the best thermal comfort in all seasons. It also reduces wind and driving noise. The soft top opens and closes within 20 seconds up to a road speed of 60 km/h. For the first time, it is powered exclusively by electricity, making it even quieter. The standard-fit powered roller divider automatically separates the folded soft top from the remaining luggage compartment.

You can find out full information about the new Mercedes CLE Cabriolet over at Mercedes Benz at the link below, as yet there are no details on how much the car will retail for in the UK.

FTC starts inquiry into Generative AI Investments and Partnerships

FTC launches inquiry into Generative AI Investments and Partnerships

To maintain a fair playing field in the rapidly growing generative AI industry, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has initiated a probe into the business dealings of some of the sector’s most influential players. Alphabet Inc., Amazon.com Inc., Anthropic PBC, Microsoft Corp., and OpenAI Inc. are now under the microscope as the FTC exercises its authority to demand extensive documentation on their operations, affiliations, and strategies.

This FTC AI inquiry is not a hunt for legal violations but rather a deep dive into the inner workings of these companies to ensure they are not stifling competition or innovation. The FTC, under the leadership of Chair Lina M. Khan, is using its powers to issue 6(b) orders, a tool that allows for a thorough examination of business practices without the pretext of an ongoing legal case. The Commission’s unanimous decision to deploy these orders is a clear signal of its intent to keep a watchful eye on the AI market, which is evolving at a breakneck pace and has the potential to become dominated by a few key players.

FTC seeking information specifically related to:

  • Information regarding a specific investment or partnership, including agreements and the strategic rationale of an investment/partnership.
  • The practical implications of a specific partnership or investment, including decisions around new product releases, governance or oversight rights, and the topic of regular meetings.
  • Analysis of the transactions’ competitive impact, including information related to market share, competition, competitors, markets, potential for sales growth, or expansion into product or geographic markets.
  • Competition for AI inputs and resources, including the competitive dynamics regarding key products and services needed for generative AI.
  • Information provided to any other government entity, including foreign government entities, in connection with any investigation, request for information, or other inquiry related to these topics.

At the heart of the FTC’s concerns are several high-profile collaborations that could reshape the competitive landscape of the AI industry. Microsoft’s financial backing of OpenAI, Amazon’s tie-up with Anthropic, and Google’s partnership with the same AI firm are all under scrutiny. The FTC is keen to understand the strategic motives behind these alliances and their potential to lock up the market, particularly when it comes to the resources needed to develop AI technologies.

FTC AI inquiry

The companies in question have been given 45 days to respond to the FTC’s orders. The information they provide will be crucial in helping the Commission to map out the current state of play and predict how these relationships might influence the future of AI. The FTC’s investigation is not just about keeping the market competitive today; it’s also about looking ahead and ensuring that the AI industry evolves in a way that benefits society as a whole.

The implications of the FTC’s inquiry are far-reaching. It’s not just about preventing a few companies from gaining too much power; it’s about making sure that the AI industry continues to be a hotbed of innovation. By examining these strategic partnerships, the FTC is also considering how to encourage a competitive environment that fosters new ideas and benefits consumers.

The FTC AI inquiry and proactive stance in investigating the connections between generative AI firms and major cloud service providers is a significant moment in the oversight of the AI industry. The issuance of 6(b) orders to these key players is a testament to the FTC’s dedication to promoting a healthy competitive environment and fostering innovation. The outcome of this investigation will likely have a lasting impact on how investments and partnerships are formed in the AI sector. As the companies involved prepare their responses, the industry and consumers alike are watching closely, eager to see what the FTC’s findings will reveal.

OpenAI starts investing in robotics companies

OpenAI starts investing in robotics companies

OpenAI, a leading artificial intelligence research organization, has recently expanded its reach by investing in the robotics industry. This significant move is set to enhance the capabilities of robots, enabling them to perform a wide range of tasks that could match or even surpass human performance in various environments, including both workplaces and homes.

One of the startups that has benefited from OpenAI’s investment is 1X Robotics, formerly known as Lot Robotics. The company has secured a whopping $100 million in funding, with OpenAI’s startup fund contributing $23.5 million in Series A2 funding. This financial boost has positioned 1X Robotics at the forefront of android development, focusing on creating robots that can safely work alongside humans in different sectors. Brad Lightcap from OpenAI’s startup fund has recognized the potential of 1X Robotics’ technology to change the way we think about robots in the workplace.

In Moss, Norway, 1X robotics is breaking new ground by training androids using virtual reality (VR) and embodied learning. This method is a departure from traditional programming and allows robots to learn in a way that is similar to how humans do. The result is a new breed of androids that can adapt to a variety of tasks with remarkable efficiency.

OpenAI Robotics investments

Recently, 1X has further escalated its financial backing by securing an additional $100 million in a Series B funding round, bringing its total fundraising to $125 million. While OpenAI was a key investor in the earlier round, the latest funding was led by EQT Ventures, with OpenAI taking a less prominent role.

The centerpiece of 1X’s strategy is NEO, a humanoid robot designed to address global labor shortages. NEO is conceptualized on the premise that humanoid robots are ideally suited to operate in environments designed for humans. This approach, while logical, has its critics. Some argue that such systems are overly complex, and others believe that achieving true general-purpose functionality in humanoid robots is a more distant goal than companies are suggesting.

One of the standout creations from 1X Robotics is Neo, a bipedal humanoid robot designed for the consumer market. Neo is unique because of its human-like structure and ability to learn artificially. It’s built to help with household tasks and can be controlled remotely, which means it can navigate complex situations in a home setting.

NEO Robot current specifications
1.65 meters tall
30 kilograms in weight
4 kilometers/hour walk speed
12 kilometers/hour run speed
20 kilograms carry capacity
2-4 hour run time

Bill Gates and Sam Altman interview

Generative AI, like that developed by OpenAI, is expected to play a crucial role in overcoming these challenges, potentially accelerating the development of versatile and capable humanoid robots. The substantial funding acquired by 1X is poised to advance their project, with CEO Bernt Øivind Børnich acknowledging the importance of this financial support in rewarding and motivating their dedicated team, who have been instrumental in the company’s success.

While 1X Robotics has not disclosed specific growth figures, the company has already attracted clients such as CUS Hospital and Everon, which are using androids for security and other services. The impact of OpenAI’s investment in the robotics sector is being compared to the successes of major players like Google DeepMind and Tesla. As androids become more common in different industries, we can expect to see a shift in the job market, especially for blue-collar jobs.

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has emphasized that the key to successful robotics lies in intelligence and cognitive abilities, rather than just physical capabilities. OpenAI’s vision involves combining advanced AI models with robust robotics hardware to create androids that are not only focused on tasks but also capable of understanding and adapting to their surroundings.

OpenAI’s foray into robotics investment highlights the organization’s commitment to advancing AI and robotics. With companies like 1X Robotics leading the way, the integration of androids into our everyday lives is becoming more of a reality. As these technologies continue to develop, they have the potential to reshape the way we work, live, and interact with the world around us.
