Galaxy S23, Fold 5, and Flip 5 will get all Galaxy S24 AI features

[ad_1]

One UI 6.1 will be an exciting update for anyone who owns a flagship Galaxy smartphone or tablet that launched in 2023, as those are the only devices that are eligible to receive the Galaxy S24’s AI features as a part of that update, at least right now.

When Samsung announced the One UI 6.1 update for its 2023 flagships, the company added a footnote saying that some Galaxy AI features from the Galaxy S24 “may not be available in previous generation models”, but it looks like that footnote doesn’t apply to the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5.

A screenshot shared by Twitter leakster Ice universe reveals that the Advanced intelligence menu on a Galaxy Z Fold 5 lists all the AI features that can be found in that same menu on a Galaxy S24. Samsung has also added a description for Circle to Search in there so users know the feature exists (the Galaxy S24 series has Circle to Search but Samsung doesn’t list it with the other features in the Advanced intelligence menu).

The Galaxy S23 FE may be the only device to not get all Galaxy S24 AI features. While it launched in 2023, it features the same Exynos and Snapdragon chips as the Galaxy S22 series instead of the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip that sits inside the non-FE Galaxy S23 models, the Fold 5 and Flip 5, and the Galaxy Tab S9.

The One UI 6.1 update will start rolling out sometime later this month, but the rollout of the update is expected to spill over into April for most markets.

The best Galaxy S23 and S23+ accessories you can buy in 2024

[ad_1]

Last updated: March 22nd, 2024 at 13:44 UTC+01:00

Samsung doesn’t usually sell accessories for Galaxy devices that are no longer on sale, but the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ are still available online, and so is the wide range of accessories with which they’re compatible.

And it’s a good thing, too, seeing how these two flagship phones offer some of the best and most diverse mobile accessories you can think of.

Best Galaxy S23 and S23+ accessories in 2024

Here are some of our favorite Galaxy S23 and S23+ accessories that are still available for purchase as of this writing. They may not be for much longer, as the 2023 flagship phones will eventually be phased out of the online store, but right now, you have a lot of choices. Starting with:

  • Galaxy S23 / Galaxy S23+ Frame Case — available for $39.99 in Black or White. This case is quite unique, in that it offers two looks. You can use the frame element attached to a clear backplate, or use the frame together with a thicker backplate that also has a credit card holder.
  • Galaxy S23 Clear Gadget Case — available for $44.99. You might be familiar with the Gadget Case concept. If not, it’s better explained as a standard transparent case that has a rear-mounted socket to which you can attach various accessories, which are sold separately. For example, you can attach a Tripod Camera Grip Gadget ($44.99) or a Tripod Slim Gadget ($34.99).
  • Galaxy S23 Silicone Grip Case — available in black or White for $39.99. This silicone case offers a soft silky texture and a strap that prevents you from dropping your phone The strap is also interchangeable with others you can buy separately. There’s even an Adidas Original Strap you can attach to it.
  • The Otterbox Symmetry case is not manufactured by Samsung but it is available through Samsung’s website. It costs $49.95 and it is available for both the Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy S23+. It comes in the Desert Sage color and offers DROP+ protection (MIL-STD-810G 516.6) and flawless functionality for the side buttons. This case is slim and durable.

  • Another Otterbox case worth picking up for the Galaxy S23 or Galaxy S23+ is the Defender Pro Series, available on Samsung’s website for $64.95. It has a multi-layer defense against drops, dirt, scrapes, and bumps. It’s highly resilient against wear and tear, and it has covers blocking dust and dirt from entering the phone’s ports. The Defender Pro Series is available in three colors: Aquifer, Kombu Green, and Legion Blue.

Lastly, if you want to protect your phone’s screen for years to come, you can buy a Samsung screen protector. It’s available for $14.99, and Samsung says it’s fully transparent and offers great touch accuracy for your Galaxy S23 and the on-screen fingerprint sensor.

If Samsung’s screen protector isn’t what you’re looking for, you can also turn to Amazon, where you can find plenty of good third-party solutions, including the Supershieldz (3 Pack) Tempered Glass Screen Protector, or the amFilm (2+2 pack) OneTouch Tempered Glass Screen and Camera Lens protector with 9H hardness.

Galaxy A55’s display wipes the floor with the Galaxy A54 and S23 FE

[ad_1]

Samsung’s new Galaxy A55 brings several improvements over the Galaxy A54, but looking at the official spec sheets, you would think the display isn’t one of them. Granted, the A55 has a slightly larger 6.6-inch panel instead of a 6.4-inch one, but that results in a lower pixel density. Otherwise, the two phones share the same Super AMOLED display type with HDR10+, a 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 1,000 nits — on paper, at least.

It turns out that the Galaxy A55’s display is vastly superior to the Galaxy A54’s and considerably brighter, too. And, in fact, according to tests conducted by DxOMark, the Galaxy A55’s display is the best in its class, beating even the Galaxy S23 FE. The Galaxy A55’s display ranks 1st, the Galaxy S23 FE’s ranks 9th, and the Galaxy A54’s panel ranks 17th.

For an even better sense of perspective, here’s how the Galaxy A55’s screen compares to the Galaxy A54’s and S23 FE on the global scale. The new model is good enough to rank 27th on the global ranking ladder, beating even the iPhone 14 Plus by one point.

And where do you think the Galaxy A54 is on the same chart? Well, it’s in the 123rd position. And the Galaxy S23 FE? It’s 84th.

Yes, according to DxOMark, the Galaxy A55’s display is even better than the more expensive Galaxy S23 FE’s, despite the Fan Edition phone claiming to have a higher brightness level. So, what gives?

Samsung underpromises and overdelivers

How can the Galaxy A55’s 1,000 nits Super AMOLED display be that much better? What’s the secret to beating even the Galaxy S23 FE, whose panel can reach 1450 nits of brightness (according to Samsung)?

That’s just the thing. DxOMark tests show that the Galaxy S23 FE’s display maxes out at 1,421 nits. However, the Galaxy A55’s display peaks at a whopping 1,638 nits, which is considerably higher than advertised.

Even the Galaxy A54 beats the official figure in these tests and tops $1,344 nits — impressive in its own right, just not enough to beat the S23 FE or A55.

All in all, the Galaxy A55 punches way above its weight class, and surprisingly so. It goes to show that even though its on-paper display specs place it right next to the Galaxy A54, real-world usage might tell a different story. Stay tuned for our upcoming review.

Galaxy S23 Ultra may have marked the end of a 9-year legacy

[ad_1]

The Galaxy S23 Ultra might be the last of its kind and may have marked the end of an era that lasted no less than nine years. If you know your Samsung history, you may have already put the puzzle pieces together. I am, of course, referring to the curved display era.

The “curved-around-the-edges” display era began ten years ago when Samsung announced the Galaxy Note Edge in September 2014. The Note Edge was the first Samsung smartphone to use flexible display technology, not to enable a foldable form factor (that would come later) but to wrap the image around one of the phone’s edges. The “Edge” moniker was born.

Samsung later implemented the Edge design to other high-end devices. It helped the company stand out, but that time is over. Samsung stopped using the “Edge” brand years ago, after the Galaxy S7 Edge, but the curved display design remained.

Nevertheless, over the past few years, Samsung has slowly phased out the curved display design design. Now, we’ve come to a point where only one device with a — slightly — curved display remains on the market, i.e., the Galaxy S23 Ultra. And it might be the very last.

In the end, it’s all for the best

The Galaxy S23 Ultra won’t be available for much longer, of course. Its replacement, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, with its flat display, is already out. Galaxy S23 Ultra stocks are dwindling, and once the 2023 model is off the shelves, it will be gone for good. And right now, Samsung shows no intentions of bringing the curved display back.

All that being said, I don’t regret how things turned out for Samsung phones. I believe the Edge display was needed when Samsung had to stand out through bold designs, and the technology was the precursor for Samsung’s foldable phones. Valuable lessons were learned.

However, the benefits of a flat screen have become more and more obvious over time. Flat phones are better suited for input devices like the S Pen and are less susceptible to breaking and cracking when dropped.

In retrospect, it’s surprising how many customers were willing to sacrifice durability for the sake of the eye-catching Edge design. Nevertheless, today, we live in a different Android smartphone era. In time, we lost bold exterior designs but gained consistency, optimization, and durability. And, personally, that’s a trade-off I’m more than happy to accept.

All in all, the Edge display may never return. And if it won’t, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will enter the history books as Samsung’s last phone to feature a curved display design. Nevertheless, the writing was on the wall before the S23 Ultra even existed, so it was not the cause of the curved display’s demise but a consequence of past decisions and plans.

Samsung Galaxy S23 vs Galaxy S24 (Video)

Samsung Galaxy S24

The new Samsung Galaxy S24 launched recently and W\when it comes to choosing a new smartphone, the decision often hinges on whether the latest model offers significant improvements over its predecessor. If you’re contemplating between the Samsung Galaxy S23 and the recently unveiled Samsung Galaxy S24, you will be pleased to know that the video below from Nick Ackerman has delved deep into a detailed comparison to help you make an informed decision. This article explores the nuances between these two models, focusing on design, display quality, performance, and more, so you know exactly what to expect.

At first glance, the Galaxy S24 presents itself with smoother edges than the Galaxy S23, marking a subtle evolution in Samsung’s design language. However, this sleekness comes with a catch – the S24 is slightly taller, which could sway your preference if the compactness of the S23 was more to your liking. While the design changes are minor, they could influence your comfort and how the device feels in your hand.

One of the standout improvements in the Galaxy S24 is its approach to reducing eye strain. The device doubles the PWM rate, which is a technique used to manage brightness levels, making the screen gentler on the eyes. This is a thoughtful upgrade for users sensitive to screen flicker. However, it’s worth noting that the S24’s display may appear less saturated than the S23’s vibrant screen. This difference might not be a dealbreaker for everyone, but for those who cherish vivid colors, it could be a consideration until a potential software update addresses the color saturation levels.

When it comes to unlocking your phone, both the Galaxy S23 and S24 offer comparable speeds with their in-display fingerprint sensors and face unlock features. This consistency ensures that regardless of which model you opt for, you’ll have quick and reliable access to your device.

Under the hood, the Galaxy S24 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, giving it a slight edge in performance over the S23’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. While both phones deliver a smooth software experience, the S24’s taller screen and enhancements for eye comfort are notable. Whether you’re browsing, streaming, or working on your phone, these improvements can contribute to a more pleasant user experience.

If you’re wondering how these devices compare in day-to-day usage, app launch times are remarkably similar. This indicates that both the Galaxy S23 and S24 are equipped to handle your multitasking needs efficiently, offering a seamless experience for most applications.

For the gamers out there, the Galaxy S24 does offer a marginal improvement in gaming performance thanks to its higher clocked CPU. This might enhance your gaming sessions slightly, but if gaming isn’t your primary concern, the performance difference may not be significant.

n terms of photography, both the Galaxy S23 and S24 provide similar camera launch times and shutter speeds. This parity suggests that you can expect consistent and high-quality photo capture capabilities from both models.

Choosing between the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 is a matter of weighing the subtle enhancements against your personal preferences and needs. Whether you prioritize cutting-edge display technology, a slight bump in performance, or the feel of the device in your hand, both smartphones offer robust features that cater to a range of users. As you consider your options, remember that the best choice is the one that aligns with your specific desires from a smartphone experience.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra vs Galaxy S24 Ultra (Video)

Galaxy S23 Ultra vs Galaxy S24 Ultra

Are you curious about how the latest Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra stacks up against its predecessor, the S23 Ultra? With the release of the S24 Ultra, tech enthusiasts and smartphone users alike are keen to understand the nuances and upgrades this new model brings to the table. This video below from Tech Spurt dives into the heart of these two flagship devices, comparing them across various aspects such as design, display, software, and more.

  1. Design Considerations:
    • At first glance, the S24 Ultra maintains a visual resemblance to the S23 Ultra, preserving its sleek and modern aesthetic. The most notable change is the shift to a completely flat display, moving away from the slightly curved screen of the S23 Ultra.
    • Embracing practicality, the S24 Ultra boasts a matte titanium frame, a thoughtful choice for those bothered by smudges and fingerprints. Not only does it enhance the phone’s look, but it also claims to increase durability.
    • Although the S24 Ultra is marginally lighter, it remains on the heavier side. Users might find the sharp corners a bit discomforting during prolonged use.
  2. Display Enhancements:
    • Both models feature a stunning 6.8-inch AMOLED display. However, the S24 Ultra steps up with an upgraded Gorilla Glass, boasting less reflectiveness and enhanced scratch resistance.
    • If you enjoy using your phone outdoors, you will be pleased to know that the S24 Ultra’s display is brighter, offering better visibility under the sun.
  3. Software Insights:
    • Running on One UI 6.1, the S24 Ultra provides a software experience that will soon be available on the S23 Ultra too.
    • Both models share similar software experiences, enriched with Samsung’s suite of apps and AI functionalities, ensuring a familiar yet refined user experience.
  4. Performance Aspects:
    • The heart of the S24 Ultra is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, a step up from the S23 Ultra’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. While benchmark tests indicate improved performance, the real-world impact is subtly noticeable, particularly in routine tasks.
    • Gamers might find that both devices offer comparable gaming experiences, though the S24 Ultra has a tendency to warm up under heavy usage.
  5. Battery Life Evaluation:
    • Battery life is crucial for modern smartphones, and both models don’t disappoint with their 5,000 mAh batteries.
    • The S24 Ultra edges ahead with slightly longer battery life in tests, but the charging speed remains consistent with the S23 Ultra.
  6. Camera Capabilities:
    • Photographers will appreciate that both phones feature a 200 Megapixel main camera. However, the S24 Ultra produces images that are less saturated and appear more natural.
    • Low-light performance has been enhanced in the S24 Ultra, along with a new 50 Megapixel telephoto lens boasting 5x optical zoom. This upgrade offers clearer images at certain zoom levels.
    • Supporting up to 100x zoom, the S24 Ultra demonstrates less noise in low-light conditions compared to the S23 Ultra.
    • Video capabilities are robust in both, with support for up to 8K resolution.
    • The selfie camera, a staple for many users, remains unchanged in both models.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra showcases incremental improvements over the S23 Ultra, with notable enhancements in display and camera performance. If you are wondering how significant these upgrades are for daily use, especially considering the high cost, it’s worth noting that the differences might not be substantial for S23 Ultra owners. This comparison aims to equip you with the knowledge to make an informed decision, whether you’re contemplating an upgrade or choosing between these two models for the first time.

The new Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra just launched, if you’re contemplating whether to stick with your trusty Galaxy S23 Ultra or leap into the arms of the new Galaxy S24 Ultra, you’re not alone. The tech world is abuzz with comparisons of these two titans, and rightly so. The video below from Sakitech compares the two handsets side by side. Let’s delve into a detailed comparison to help you make an informed decision.

Build Quality and Design: A Slight Edge

  • The Galaxy S24 Ultra takes a step forward with its titanium frame and Gorilla Glass Armor, nudging ahead of the S23 Ultra’s aluminum frame and Gorilla Victus 2 glass.
  • Aesthetically, both models share a similar look. However, the S24 Ultra sports slimmer bezels and a matte finish on its titanium body, giving it a refined touch.

Performance: A Leap Forward

  • The S24 Ultra is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen3 processor, coupled with 12 GB RAM and an option for up to 1 TB storage. This setup is a notch above the S23 Ultra’s 8 Gen2 processor.
  • It also boasts a larger vapor chamber, enhancing cooling efficiency. This results in an approximate 25% boost in CPU and GPU performance, a boon for avid gamers and heavy app users.

 Display: Brightness Takes the Spotlight

  • Display sizes and technologies remain consistent between the two models.
  • The S24 Ultra shines brighter, literally, with a peak brightness of 2600 nits compared to the S23 Ultra’s 1750 nits. Its touch response time is also marginally faster, offering an edge in gaming scenarios.

Software: Future-Proofing with AI

  • Running on OneUI 6.1, the S24 Ultra integrates additional AI features, enhancing productivity and photography.
  • The S23 Ultra is not far behind, as these features are expected to roll out in future updates, promising a similar software experience down the line.

Camera: A New Era of Zoom and Clarity

  • Both phones boast a quad-camera system, featuring a 200 MP main camera, a 12 MP ultrawide camera, and dual telephoto lenses.
  • The S24 Ultra introduces a 50 MP 5x optical zoom camera, which, along with AI enhancements, rivals the 10x optical zoom quality of the S23 Ultra’s 10 MP camera.
  • An added perk for the S24 Ultra is its ability to switch between lenses seamlessly while recording in 4K, an option not present in the S23 Ultra.

Battery Life: Efficient and Enduring

  • The two models are equipped with a 5000 mAh battery, supporting up to 45W charging.
  • The S24 Ultra edges ahead slightly in terms of battery life, thanks to its more efficient processor and advanced cooling system.

Navigating the Upgrade Decision

When it comes to choosing between the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and its predecessor, the decision hinges on your specific needs and the value you place on the latest features. The S24 Ultra presents several advancements in performance, display, and camera capabilities. However, these improvements, while significant, may not be groundbreaking for every user. If you’re a tech enthusiast eager for the latest and greatest, the S24 Ultra might be your next gadget. But if you’re content with a slightly less advanced yet still powerful device, the S23 Ultra remains a formidable choice.

As you weigh your options, remember that technology is an ever-evolving field. What matters most is finding a device that aligns with your lifestyle and needs. Whether you choose the S24 Ultra or stick with the S23 Ultra, you’ll be equipped with a powerhouse of technology.
