Florida Siblings, 10 and 11, Went off in Mom’s Vehicle After She took their Electronic Devices

Two young siblings from Florida were arrested by authorities after driving approximately 200 miles away in their mother’s car after their mother took away their electronic devices and threatened to call the police.

According to a statement released by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, two children aged 10 and 11 years old were stopped by officers on Interstate 75 in the vicinity of Alachua, Florida, at around 3:50 in the morning on Thursday. The area was around 26 kilometers (nearly 16 miles) to the north of Gainesville.

The office of the sheriff asserted that the kid was the one behind the wheel.

After their mother took away their electronic devices, the two ran away and landed up three hours away in North Port, Florida, according to a follow-up statement that was put out by the office on Friday.

It was said there had been a missing kid report filed by the parent.

Since the vehicle had been reported stolen, the law enforcement officers pulled it over and ordered that the occupants come out under threat of being shot.

“Much to their surprise, deputies observed a 10-year-old male driver exiting the vehicle, along with his 11-year-old sister,” the sheriff’s office claimed.

The mother’s decision not to pursue legal action over the alleged theft of the vehicle resulted in the two suspects being returned to her care.

Following the mother’s decision to withdraw the case involving the stolen automobile, the police stated that they were unable to submit any criminal charges. It was said that the driver may have been arrested for driving without a license; but, as this is a minor traffic infraction, he or she would not be required to do time in a juvenile facility if they were convicted of this charge.

According to the sheriff’s office, investigators conducted an interview with the mother of the victims. According to the findings of the social workers, she “was clearly doing her best to raise two young children, and she was very receptive to the recommendations they provided in helping her get assistance.”
