A woman's response to a call for ridiculous things TikTok creators had to explain to people left viewers wondering how an adult could go on for so long, not knowing computers were supposed to be loaded.
The video posted by @rubygirl_22 tells the story of a grad student who helped her over the phone while she was working in a financial aid office.
"I was transferred to a woman and she was very upset that her refund was delayed," @rubygirl_22 explains in the video. "We talked on the phone for about an hour and she was very upset about this refund delay because she had to buy a new computer. I completely understand that school is expensive. Because we spend over an hour on the phone, she is way. to tell me more about his life story. I mentioned in passing that this is the seventh computer he's graduated from, and I'm thinking, oh yeah, you're a graduate student, it's going to take a lot of computers to complete your program, or more degrees, I thought, his seventh computer in three weeks.
@rubygirl_22 says she found out about the woman going through so many computers just because she didn't know they had to charge them.
"I asked her if there was a charger sticking out of the box and she said, 'There's no charger,'" he said. "I told her to get the computer case out, I told her to look inside, and she was like, 'Oh yeah, I found a cable for something.'" It still takes 15 minutes to get him away and convince the computer. As I was plugging the computer in, pressing the button and turning it on, she started yelling in my ear and yelling at her husband who was sitting next to her. Apparently he dropped seven nines because he didn't know how to reload them. This person was in a PhD program. Seven new computers in the trash can never get it back. "
Viewers were not surprised that someone had survived the education system until now, not knowing that the computer needed to be charged to continue using it.
"Just because they're polite doesn't mean they're smart… Words from a manager I worked with," one commenter wrote.
Another commenter wrote: "This is why I'm so angry that some jobs don't hire people without a degree." "Having a degree doesn't necessarily mean you're smart."
"As someone who also works in higher education," wrote one commenter, "the things we have to explain to a PhD student are sometimes confusing."
Others told their own stories of intellectuals thinking or believing nonsense.
Another commenter wrote: "I once had to show a neurosurgeon how to use the elevator, I worked as a dishwasher at the same hospital, he worked there for 5 years."
