Add Apple Pencil Pro to the list of products expected at Apple’s May 7 “Let Loose” event. A reference to the stylus turned up on the Japanese version of Apple’s website.
It’s for iPad but might also work with Vision Pro.
Apple Pencil Pro leaks out before official announcement
It’s no secret a new stylus is on the way: Apple showed the product in the invitation to the Let Loose event. But everyone assumed the third-generation version would be called Apple Pencil 3. Apparently not.
To build excitement for the new products, Apple put on its homepage an image and link to the page where Tuesday’s event will be streamed. Someone digging around in the HTLM for the Japanese version turned up a clear reference to “Apple Pencil Pro” on the homepage.
Cult of Mac confirmed that the reference is still there. It’s not on the U.S. site, but it is on the Japanese one.
Not Apple Pencil 3
The name is important because an Apple Pencil Pro won’t necessarily replace the current Apple Pencil 2 in the product lineup. It’s possible the second-generation version will stick around as a lower-cost option — even if it did launch way back in 2018 — with the Pro version becoming the new premium model.
Information leaking out about the upcoming version indicates it’ll be significant step up. The device will supposedly offer haptic feedback, plus a squeeze gesture for quick interactions. The stylus is also expected to support Apple’s Find My network. And it might work with the Vision Pro headset in addition to iPad.
