A new auto brand, Arcfox, is set to enter Malaysia’s EV market. Interestingly enough, the company that will assist Arcfox’s entry into Malaysia is Go Auto Group.
Who is Go Auto Group?
First pointed out by PaulTan.org, the relationship between the two entities was referenced multiple times on Go Auto Group’s Facebook page as early as 9 July. However, all the references have since been removed from the page, although you can still see Arcfox’s name on the new Go Auto Group’s official website.
If the name sounds familiar to you, this is because Go Auto was the one who was responsible for Neta EVs in Malaysia through its subsidiary, Intro Synergy Sdn Bhd. Before that, Go Auto had also dabbled with GWM and Borgwald before, but none of its passenger car endeavours managed to last.
Despite that, the parent company of Arcfox, Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC), appears to be quite confident in Go Auto’s capability to bring forward the EV-oriented brand into Malaysia. The state-owned company previously previewed the X55 and BJ40 Plus SUVs in 2024, and local assembly (CKD) was supposed to begin earlier this year at EPMB Melaka, but we haven’t heard any further updates since then.
Which Arcfox model is coming to Malaysia?
It is unclear at the moment which model Arcfox will debut in Malaysia, but as a reference, there are currently 4 models listed on Arcfox’s global website. One of them is a compact hatchback called the Arcfox T1.
Over in China, the T1 features a 95kW (127hp) electric motor that also produces 176Nm of torque. The EV can be obtained with battery capacities of up to 42.3kWh, which allows it to deliver a CLTC-rated range of up to 450km (369km WLTP est).
Also listed on the website is the Arcfox T5 crossover SUV, which can be obtained in its home market as either a pure EV or an extended-range EV (EREV). The EV version offers a CLTC-rated range of up to 705km (578km WLTP est) with a 79.2kWh battery, while the EREV version, which comes with a 1.5L NA engine that acts as a generator, can provide up to 215km of pure electric range (176km WLTP est) and 1,215km of combined range (996km WLTP est).
There’s also the Kaola S 5-seater compact MPV that is equipped with a sliding rear door on its right side. Powered by a 58.85kWh LFP battery, the Kaola S has a CLTC-rated range of up to 520km (426km WLTP est).
If you are not a fan of SUVs and MPVs, you might be interested in the sporty Arcfox S5 sedan instead. In its home market, the pure EV variant has up to 720km of CLTC-rated range (590km WLTP est), and the EREV version can hit up to 1,450km of combined range (1,189km WLTP est), as well as 230km of pure electric range (189km WLTP est).
