U Mobile has confirmed that it has successfully completed the migration of all customers to its own nationwide ULTRA5G network. This morning, Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) had also announced that U Mobile has been fully offboarded from its 5G network on 30th June 2026.
This means U Mobile customers will experience 5G exclusively on the brand new network deployed by Huawei and ZTE, instead of DNB’s 5G network deployed by Ericsson.
The transition marks a significant milestone for Malaysia’s second nationwide 5G network, with U Mobile claiming to have achieved more than 85% Coverage of Populated Areas (CoPA) since commencing its network rollout in July 2025.
U Mobile ULTRA5G network now covers over 85% of populated areas
According to U Mobile, it has achieved more than 85% Coverage of Populated Areas (CoPA) within a year of starting its 5G rollout in July 2025. The operator added that it has also deployed more than 190 in-building coverage (IBC) sites nationwide, with plans to increase this to over 600 sites.
Back in April 2026, the orange telco achieved 82.9% 5G population coverage with 6,737 sites, making it the fastest 5G network rollout in the country as endorsed by Malaysia Book of Records.
The company said its indoor coverage deployments span transport hubs, commercial buildings, retail destinations, healthcare facilities, hotels, offices, government facilities and enterprise environments, with the aim of improving indoor 5G connectivity.
U Mobile customers are now fully transitioned to its own 5G network

With the migration now completed, U Mobile said all of its customers are now connected to its own ULTRA5G network following the termination of its wholesale access agreement with DNB, effective 1 July 2026. The wholesale arrangement had been maintained as an interim measure to ensure uninterrupted 5G services while the operator accelerated deployment of its own nationwide network.
U Mobile has also secured RM4.3 billion in syndicated financing from a consortium of local and international financial institutions to support continued expansion and enhancement of its nationwide 5G network, while reinforcing its long-term commitment to deliver high-quality connectivity across Malaysia.
U Mobile CEO Wong Heang Tuck said, “The completion of our transition to our own nationwide ULTRA5G network marks a defining milestone for U Mobile. It gives us full control over our network, allowing us to innovate faster, elevate customer experience and introduce more differentiated products and services that meet the evolving needs of consumers and businesses be it indoors or outdoors.”
He adds, “Over the past year, we have built one of the country’s widest and deepest 5G networks, complemented by a rapidly expanding in-building coverage footprint to deliver a more seamless indoor and outdoor experience. Together with our 5G Standalone network, this puts us in a strong position to bring more industry-leading innovations to market while continuing to raise the bar for customer experience.”
